Came here recently to purchase pumpkin painting materials to decorate a plastic pumpkin. This store has so many fun arts and crafts materials, it's best to have an idea of what you're looking for. I thought prices were reasonable. They have a lot of coupons meant for online abs other coupons for in-store purchases. Service was pretty good. The guy on the floor helped me find what I needed and explained where some other items were located. Checkout was fantastic. The young man asked fun, holiday themed questions. He was delightful! I used to come to this location a lot. The last 3 times I have gone, it has been unbearable to checkout. Today, there was a lady at check out who told me to go to the self check out when I already had issues with it instead of helping ring me up, my coupons didn't take and because of the self checkouts not working the line to check out got so long. The lady said she was too busy to help and I didn't get to use my coupons. This is the 3rd time it took me over 15 minutes to check out because of similar issues. read more

Am not a huge fan, but thank you for having airplane and car model sets. They've gone up in price big time. Not sure why, as even with inflation, they have become quite expensive. Yet they are stress relieving to build, and all pertinent supplies are here. Young kids will enjoy some of their discovery sets. As for the store I like the employees here. Checkout is usually very fast. Some people are hardcore into arts and crafts, so these folks may know more than this fun loving cave man. There are a lot of products to choose from. Pricing seems competitive. If you're in the area, so as long as you can stand the Pan Am Shopping Center parking, you'll like this store. read more

Pro tip: call the store when you arrive if you order curbside pickup! It was my first time trying online ordering and pickup at Michaels. The Pan Am shopping center is pretty busy, including this store on a weeknight before Christmas, but everyone I saw was wearing masks. I pulled up into one of the designated curbside spots right in front of Michaels. I checked in on my phone, but I was waiting for about 25 minutes. Another shopper showed up around that time also waiting for curbside. Finally I called the store and asked if I needed to do anything--an employee apologized for the wait, and it sounded like the issue may be with the alert system. He said someone would bring my items shortly. Less than five minutes after I called to check in, a very friendly employee brought out my items and the other shopper's items. My bag had a paper receipt that was also sent to me via email. Selection of items was good, and only one or two things that I'd ordered were out of stock (I wasn't charged for them). 11/24/21 After all the wild ideas I had about updating my necklace, I decided to just keep my necklace simple. Looking around in the jewelry section did give me an idea for other projects I might do in the future. Can't say I wasn't big on arts and crafts in school, but everybody needs a hobby at some point. Michael's is one of those place I did not care about for years, but now I am glad there is a store like this. Many of the hobby shops or mom and pop shops have gone the way of the Dodo. A lot of it have to do with The Coronavirus Outbreak. Some place have gone online, but I feel some things need to be see in person and held. This Michael's store is pretty close to home and it wasn't very busy now that it gets darker earlier. This gave me the chance to look around and not be bothered by others. I walked away with nothing today, but I will be back soon to possibly make a new bracelet for my wife and myself. Maybe even for a few family members. Christmas is coming after all. read more

Frustrating shopping experience. I wanted to place an order for in-store pick up. This was on the Sunday of the Memorial Day weekend. I placed an order at 4:43pm. The Michael's app said that there is same-day pick up for any orders placed before 5pm. After stopping by the grocery store to pick up a couple things, I called the store, inquiring about my order. It was an hour after I placed my online order. Apparently it takes two hours to fulfill an online order. For embroidery thread and two packs of thank you notes. Really? It was quicker for me to go into the store, pick up what I needed, show the employee (and her boss) of what I had ordered online, and finished my transaction. I did not like going into the store because 1. It was Memorial Day weekend with lots of customers and 2. I still have anxiety about people too close to me in the store (I had this anxiety BEFORE the pandemic, but it is certainly worse). So much for their "easy" online pick-up. Even ordering on the app was annoying. The interface does not allow me to jump to a "checkout" process, so I had to remove an item from my cart, then add it back in order to see the "view and check out" prompt. The employee said that because their store is closing at 7pm, any orders placed online would be fulfilled tomorrow. I was already in the area, so I don't want to make a second trip. The real kicker? LITERALLY as I was in the parking lot writing this review (I wanted to do this while it was still fresh in my mind), I get a cute little notification that says, "Your order is ready to pick up." FFS. So, avoid the app for this location. This was my first time using the app for purchasing items, and it will be my last. I'd rather go on a day that is not crowded or an "off" period of the day, get what I need and go. So much for efficiency. ‍ read more

I never knew that I would ever have such strong feelings about a Michaels craft store before but we're living in a different era y'all! Since my daughter was in a full-time preschool, I was inadequately prepared in the tempura paint, wiggly eye, glue stick, and play doh department. But thanks to Michaels app, I am now in quarantine homeschool mode! I made my selection through the app and less than twenty minutes later I had received an email saying my order was ready. I pulled up to the store, gave them a call, and they delivered everything to my trunk, no contact involved. Parents -- not only do they have craft stuff but little presents and toys as well. I got a 3 lb bag of kinetic sand and we are now going to have an indoor beach day. Life has just gotten a little bit brighter -- thank you Michaels! read more

I have to say... I was a bit disappointed by the size and scope of their Cricut section. Having just purchased a Cricut, I was all set to go ham in the cricut section. And as someone who also attended a special cricut event a couple of months back that took me out to a Michael's in Vienna for the chance to win a Cricut as part of a whole Cricut Invisible Ink day of events; I've seen what a truly built out Cricut section can be. This Michael's only had one aisle for Cricut stuff. I was really surprised. Now, that being said everyone at the store was very nice and the woman who came to help us seemed genuinely interested in finding us certain items. The woman who checked me out was also very nice, friendly, and efficient. My review is for the framing department only. I had one custom frame done with David and it turned out ok. I came back to frame three more pieces. One of the pieces came out alright and I was relieved since I was framing it for a friend. The other two pieces were messed up. 1. The first piece was rather large, measuring 48" x 37" and I paid $304.36 for the frame. When I came to pick it up, the white matte on the picture was stained with finger marks. In addition, the original print was stained and wrinkled. I had paid roughly ~$400 for the original print plus the ~$300 for the custom frame. I was extremely disappointed that there were damages on my print. 2. The second piece was 21.5" x 26" and I paid $106.54 for the frame. The back of the frame looked hideous. The framer did not add a back to the print, just a little bit of duck tape attaching a string to hold the picture against the wall. C'mon, seriously? I hate to be labeled as a "Karen" but that doesn't fly with me. Can I speak to your manager, please? Just kidding. Luckily David was there and he saw these results and was equally shocked. He said there was someone new in the framing department. The newbie was still learning the ropes. David offered to re-do the two frames for me. Two weeks later and my frames are ready for pick up again. I just picked up my frames and they are fixed! It should have been done right the first time, but I'm still giving them 3 stars because of the staff's friendliness and willingness to re-do the frames after they messed up. I try to avoid Michael stores during the weekend because I know the lines can become part of the isles. I visited this store a couple of times on a weekday in the morning and thankfully my returns and purchases were smooth. The second time, I wanted to use a coupon that I receive in my email but it wasn't working and the cashier made me look up another coupon from AC Moore, which surprisingly worked. I didn't know they use their coupons too but I guess they did for my visit. This store has pretty good stock of anything you're looking for and hope to get more of those coupons to get that extra discount! read more

Compared to the Michaels stores in Fair Lakes and Vienna, this is my favorite one. I've noticed that they tend to have better sales and more items in stock. As an example, after Christmas, I went to the Fair Lakes location to buy a Christmas wreath, and found that they only had a few (unattractive) wreaths left. I then drove over to this one, and found that they had more than 25 different wreaths, all of them beautiful, and at better prices than at Fair Lakes. I also find the location really convenient - right next to 66 and in the same shopping center as Safeway. read more

Store has great frame deals BUT make sure frame has not been returned. Don't get me started on their Ashland candles. Seriously, the worst candles I EVER bought in my life. They should rename them to unscented candles when lit. They had a $10 deal for 3 candles. I was like WOW so I bought all 3. Should of known something was off. The easel I bought had a warped part and the staff didn't hassle me, just simply switched out sets. Then when I got back home, I accidentally broke one of the parts and once again they offered to replace. I like having a little security when purchasing relatively expensive things. WHOA. Largest Michaels I've ever seen. This place is Huuuuuuuuuuuuge. I think it's funny that it's next to MicroCenter because I can see the Husbands' eyes sparkle and glittery when they go there while the wifes go their separate ways and drool over Michaels. haha I love almost all Michaels for their selection of stuff and organized aisles. This one is just the biggest one so it's obviously got the most selection and the most variety of stuff. I was able to find lots of things here that I didn't previously. Plus, since they're so big, they still had an area where clearance Christmas stuff was still out (whereas in a smaller Michaels, they had to put them all away already). Most of the employees were really helpful - they really knew their stuff and I appreciated all their help. Some were more apathetic and not very helpful though - so you have to look for the good ones. I will say I appreciate that I am able to find employees around the store easily to ask for help though. read more

I had a terrible experience yesterday where I was denied a return on a Cricut because I simply was given a description of a return policy that was not adherent to what it actually is. All Cricut products bought can only be returned or exchanged unopened. I was a very frustrated and because the manager on duty, Paola, called Cricut with me, we discovered that my device had already been bought and returned by someone else who may have lied and stated it was unopened. I had to wait until the next day to talk to the store manager, April who was very pleasant to deal with. She assumed positive intent and erred on the side of the customer for me and performed an exchange. She explained that the policy is firm because of dishonest customers but she's got a got a good gauge on her because I'm one of the honest ones and she immediately considered that. I felt bad that I let a little much frustration out on Paola but she was just doing her job and she's really a total sweetheart. She took the time to detail a report about the day prior to make sure today's interaction went smooth. It was definitely a roller coaster of an interaction but we can say it has been resolved with absolute justice and care. Thank you Pan-Am Michaels. You have restored the faith of a regular and almost daily shopper at your location. Keep up the good work!!! read more

I am known far and wide as being a crafty person, and this Michaels is my favorite location of the chain in Northern Virginia. It is one of the larger locations, has the best selection and organization, and the employees are usually extremely friendly whenever I go. I have brought my kids to their crafting activities on multiple occasions, and it's always a great time. read more

I often frequent this Michaels location because it's close to the Vienna metro so convenient for me to stop by after work. It's a large location, very clean, always have good stock, and the staff is usually helpful. They have a framing shop and I've had many things framed there, and have been very happy with it. I love that the Michaels franchise gives you the 40% off an item coupon upon your check out for the next visit, just wish it didn't expire so fast! I did sign up for their email list this visit, and was sent a 20% off my entire purchase coupon which I cannot wait to use! read more

I've been to this Michael's twice in the past month because it's closest to my work place, and I'm pretty unimpressed. My go to Michael's is usually the one in Reston. This Vienna location is much smaller, but surprisingly you can find pretty much anything you need in a pinch. I might've come on a bad day (I'm not sure what their restocking schedule is like), but on Wednesday night, almost everything was out of stock or down to the last one-two items left. I noticed that a lot of the items were kind of dingy--it seems like the employees will rarely go through the aisle to re-sort items and put them back in place. The part of my visit that I was most unimpressed by was a certain employee who I had asked a question to and later checked my items out as well. I have never seen a more hostile personality in retail before or a person who had seem to hate her job as much as she did (I really hope she was just having a bad day). I had a few coupons I wanted to use, so when I initially asked her about the terms about a coupon, she responding in an annoyed fashion as if I had asked a stupid question, and when I was checking out, she seemed to be annoyed by the fact that I was using coupons in the first place (as if employees make commission or whatever). It was a really unpleasant experience. I felt really uncomfortable like I had offended her or something. I'll still probably come back to this location in the future because of its convenient location, but I do not recommend this location if other locations are equally close. read more

I was there at lunch today looking for a picture frame. The location is clean and the lighting is appropiate. Lots of specials on frames and decorations. The staff was friendly and helpful. Prices were very competitive and some items were priced below what other retailers charge. I actually got a large frame for under $20 dollars...what a deal. I just want to say what a great experience it's been with this particular location and with one individual I have been working with for my wedding. I'm getting married this year and (April) the manager has been more than helpful throughout my whole wedding process. I've been coming in at least once a month and every time I walk in or call and ask for her she's always available with a smile and helpful with a positive attitude. This review is strictly for the inventory and store cleanliness (in comparison to other Michaels). The aisles and shelves in this store are fully stocked (unlike a lot of the other Michaels). The floral department is abundant. They have many different type of vases and containers. Everything was organized and clean. There weren't boxes and employees blocking the aisles. Again, this is not a reflection on Michaels as a brand but this store in comparison to others. read more

It seems like ALL the Michaels stores around here are a hot mess. Maybe except for Leesburg. I thought the Vienna location would be better than Fair Lakes, as FL never has anything in stock and have unopened and used items on shelves, as well as stopped up toilets and a dirty atmosphere in general. This location had items in aisles where they didn't belong, half of the fabric markers/pens were opened. I asked for assistance twice and was told to go to the wrong aisle. I had to work -hard- to even try to find what I needed. On top of that, the BATHROOMS, hello?! They're tucked in a corner with the tiniest sign that one cannot see. The bathroom had no toilet paper because what was left of it had been used to cover the entire diaper changing table. What has happened to customer service and trying to keep a clean store now a days? We don't live in the slums and I'm not asking for champagne to be handed to me when I walk in the door. Just basic knowledge, stocked shelves- hell- semi- stocked shelves even, and a bathroom with toilet paper. So yeah- 1 star. Eek! Methinks not. All the way. read more

After deciding the Michaels at Fair Lakes is a total hot mess (hot tranny mess?), I ventured to this location. A little further down 66, but I am willing to make the trek. Unlike the other location... This one is bright, clean, organized, and the staff actually act like they are supposed to (no yelling, cursing, or saying they are going to smack the crap out of kids). Their "sale" tags are actually where they are supposed to be and everything is marked clearly. I can get all my frames, etc. here and be out in less than an hour. Plus things are ALWAYS on sale and every time you check out, they give you a new coupon to use within the next week or so. They just keep me coming back....... Most crafts stores make me want to yell out a "safe word" after about 5 minutes and run out the door. This place is better than most, meaning I can last for closer to 10 minutes - and I do mean that as a complement. I'm usually in here for a custom framing job. They actually do a great job when it comes to professional matting and framing, and the staff behind the framing counter are helpful and very good at what they do. Pros: Good prices, sales, and promotions. Overall friendly and helpful staff. Supplies are fairly abundant and easy to find. They also accepted my returns without a receipt. Cons: Not many, but I did not receive a full refund for a two item pack costing $16. Where the single pack was $8, they refunded me the price of a single rather than double. I wasn't too pleased with it, but I understand sales environments and store policy, so only a one star loss. read more

I was looking for a frame for a birthday gift. I found a shadow box that I liked, plus glue and some colored paper to pull it together. I was impressed at how organized this location is. It was 9:00 pm, closing time when I left and the staff were still polite. At checkout I got a coupon. I also like this location because it is an easy exit off the I-66. Also in the shopping center are Microcenter and Safeway with a gas station. Easy. I'll be back to this location. read more

Their framing department is awful. Customer service is poor and the framing work they did on my cross-stitch was completely unacceptable. Go to Total Framing in Fairfax, their prices are just as competitive and their customer service and craftsmanship are unsurpassed. I will never go back here for any framing work. read more
