I enjoy visiting stores that are national brands while on road trips to compare to my local version. This Michael's has a much larger selection of stamps than the one I visit regularly (we only have small stamps by the register while this store has a nice section). Bathrooms I also noted were clean and tidy. The employee at the register was friendly and engaged in basic small talk asking about our trip. My husband found some paint that our store doesn't have while I picked out some stamps. Hubby and I had had some time to kill while waiting for the Riordan Mansion to open, so we stopped at this Michaels, which is in a strip shopping center next to the mansion. Yes it is that time once again were you will see my family and I checking in to Michael every weekend until Halloween. We will go there first to buy crafts for the kids .They are very inexpensive and they keep the kids busy for a long time and they're all so proud of their creations when they hang up their skeletons on the front door. You will also find us adults there buying decor for the house and getting a new haunted house for our haunted village that we put up every year. The staff is always super friendly. I love how they always have plenty of Associates at the checkout counter for a speedy checkout. The time to start shopping at Michaels is now. They usually have awesome discounts on the fall stuff and if you go to late in October most of the items are gone. read more

Michael's is a decent place to shop for art, baking and crafting supplies, without the annoying and overpowering "Christmas in your Face" scent of a nearby store. The yarn selection is not as good as next door, but everything else is pretty good. I like the quality of the pre made canvassas, paints ,and other art supplies. I got some bride and groom rubber duckies here for $5 for my wedding. They sort of stole the show. I have made some great icing with their Wilton color pastes. The nice thing about Michael's is that the other customers are so nice and helpful, particularly in the baking section. I got some great tips for making a Marine Corps birthday cake. I love Michael's and have loyally shopped with this chain nationwide over your competitors until my visit to the Flagstaff location. It is the absolute worse experience I have ever had in one of your stores. The store was a complete disaster area and every single member of the staff I encountered was both rude and dismissive. One young man was kind but he unfortunately knew where nothing was that I was seeking. I realize that this is the holiday season and it is busier than normal. However I have spent 25 years in hospitality and customer service. There was absolutely no excuse for the condition of that store nor the rudeness of the staff. I regret to say that I walked next door to Joanne's where I spent over $200.00. I will continue shopping at Joanne's when in Flagstaff. The saddest part is that the value at Michael's is better but I would rather pay higher prices than shop in a hostile and chaotic environment. Michael's still has my loyalty in the rest of the nation but never again Flagstaff! read more

Went Christmas shopping yesterday and stopped into Michaels for some picture frames and stocking stuffers. They were very busy but they were having a 50% off sale. We were asked multiple times if we were finding everything that we needed. They had a great selection of glitter and blank boards for art projects. The Christmas decorations are 60% off so of course we bought a lot of tree decorations and ornaments. The selection of wrapping paper was a lot of fun as well and a great selection. They have brown plaid paper and plaid trees. It was the perfect paper for my theme this year. Check out took awhile due to the high volume of customers and only 2 registers open but the manager jumped right in and opened up a 3rd register and it quickly got people in and out of the check out line. read more

It used to be nice - not so much. It's run down, dirty and disorganized. I can never find what I need. Employees are stocking shelves, but with what? I'm bummed that we don't have a Hobby Lobby up here, so I will continue to come here. Most things are cheaper at WalMart just a jump over. The only redeeming quality has nothing to so with the store, but corporate. You can use multiple coupons at once. So download the app, I see 2 app coupons together as well as a mailer coupon. The employees did tell me which ones to use. You have to tell some though, not all know you can do that. My philosophy, use the coupons until the computer / register kicks them back!! I came to Michael's for clay and other supplies and I was able to find it. The staff was helpful I asked about where the acrylic paint was. I don't know what Bethie G needed, but I believe "general products" were in stock. Maybe what's general to her isn't to the public. But I just wanted to say that this store was clean when I stepped in. A huge plus goes to the fact that the sale items that I bought was still in stock even on the last day of the sale. Usually they're gone by then, but I found what I needed! The only downside was there only seemed to be two staff on the clock at the time (from what I've seen) but then again it's pretty quiet in here so a lot of staff isn't needed anyways. read more

As other reviews have mentioned, the displays of colored pencils and markers and other art supplies like those are pretty much always empty and the few things that are there are almost never in the right spot. The Halloween selection this year was woefully underwhelming, which is very disappointing since that's my favorite holiday. Walmart had a better selection of Halloween stuff than Michael's! They never seem to have new stuff other than holiday stuff, so it gets boring pretty quickly. And their holiday stuff tends to be really cheap quality. The woman in the framing department is very professional and helpful. She seems to be eager to help and knows what info people need when making choices about how to get things framed. Overall, the merchandise is what you'd expect from a Michael's (average-poor quality) and the people are nice. read more

I walked in spent 3 hours loading my carts for a party I was doing the total came to hundreds of dollars when I handed the young man cash he said "we don't take hundred dollar bills." Oh my, really? Definitely not one of the better Michael's I've been too. I went to find Prisma markers and was woefully disappointed with the nearly empty display case. No markers were in the correct spot and the selection was poor as well. Luckily, I did find the white gel pens I needed but they were hidden behind a hanging display not clearly visible. I would agree with others that things were not well organized or clean as well. The wait in line was ridiculous. There was only one teller who didn't know how to use the machine properly. There were a group of employees standing around talking. A woman behind me was also impatient and kept calling to them to get someone to come over. When someone finally did take me and the six people behind me, he couldn't ring up the order right the first time. Took all in all like 15 minutes just to check out. read more

I bought an expensive print by a Hopi artist which was signed. I brought it to Michaels in Atlanta for framing. When I got it back, the framers had covered the title of the work and the artist's name printed at the bottom with the matte. I explicitly asked that the matte be cut out to show the title and artist. They did just the opposite by covering it up. What? What idiot framer covers the title and name of the artist? We were on vacation in Atlanta and thus I had no opportunity to return to the store when I came home, opened the wrapping, and saw what was done. I paid a lot to have the print butchered by the framing. This was Atlanta, not Flagstaff. But I think it is instructive to let potential customers know that Michael's framing work should be carefully monitored. Give them explicit written directions, repeat those directions verbally to the clerk, ask the clerk to repeat the directions, and open the results right there in the store in front of them when you get the framing back to make sure it is done to your satisfaction. I still have a beautiful print on my wall with the matte covering the title. Stupid them for doing it, stupid me for not checking the results before I left the premises. read more

I am so angry. I bought a product called InstaMold which is a powder that mixed with water makes a rubber-like mold. It promised to be easy to use and to create the finest detail. I made about 10 molds total, all of which came out lumpy and full of bubbles that oozed and would not dry properly, ruining the detail in the cast I was trying to create. I followed the directions and even improvised by using different tools, trying to make the product work properly. I used about half the package and wasted at least an hour of my time and threw away all 10 unusable molds. It's either a faulty product, or it was beyond its shelf life. I tried to return the defective product telling the man behind the counter my story. He called his manager and said, "A customer is trying to return a product, but she's already used half of it," in a tone which suggested I was trying to steal from them the $6 this product cost me. He then informed me that his manager said I could not return the product. He was still on the phone and I'm sure the manager heard me retort, rather angrily, "But the product didn't work. It's not like I used half of it to my satisfaction and am trying to return it now that I'm done with it." The manager said something else to the cashier over the phone and he said, "It's our policy not to accept returns unless we can resell them." Wow. Really? You sell me a damaged good and it's "your policy" not to reimburse me for it (btw, with a receipt)? Worst customer service ever. I gave him the box of InstaMold and told him to throw it away. Also, about a month ago I called and asked a female employee if they had a certain product. I even told her what section it would be in (scrapbook) and she said she'd go look. She returned to the phone and said in an exasperated voice, "No, I couldn't find the product and other employees I asked said they have never heard of it," with an attitude that suggested asking her to look (while she's being paid- so I wouldn't have to drive there and look myself) was a major inconvenience to her. Anyway, the next day I went there for something different and low-and-behold, there is the product I asked her to look for in the scrapbook aisle. Did she even look? To be fair, I haven't had any other bad experiences. Usually an employee comes by and politely asks me if I need help finding anything. But the lack of respect as a (very good and frequent) customer I experienced tonight with my failed return, really turned me off. It's just bad business. I shop here a lot. Or I should say, I used to shop here a lot. I will bring my business to Joann's fabric next door, or buy my craft supplies online from now on. Michael's is overpriced anyway. read more

I went to Michaels a few weeks ago looking for a gingerbread house to decorate with my kids. When I arrived to the store it was packed due to the holidays I'm sure, but I had asked for help to find a gingerbread house and Steven helped me, he was very unclear about where to find the house and did not really seem to know what he was talking about, he seemed to be more focused on what else was happening on the floor. I gave up because he was ZERO help and went up to a girl at the register and had the pleasure of getting help from Lexcee!! She walked with me to the gingerbread houses, gave me different options, and even helped me with another project! GIVE THIS GIRL EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH!! My experience ended up being pretty good after everything I found, and the gingerbread house was so fun! read more

I love Michaels, however the one in Flagstaff has been a problem with me for awhile and thought I'd share my concerns. Every time I shop in your store, you have all these "SALE" items with red tags. So I usually buy one or two things on sale. Each time I buy one of these, your register does not recognize it's "Sale". You either say, it was mis-marked or say that you cannot recognize that sale price. Also, I don't always check my receipt and when I get home, you charged me the old price! I live in Sedona, not too easy to travel back to Michaels for dispute. You seem to have a lot of misadvertising and I am quite upset with your procedures. read more
