You know you're from California when you've never heard of Cal Ranch. This was my first time hearing/visiting a Cal Ranch store. My family needed some items for both our dogs and gardening Luckily for us, Cal Ranch has it all.. and then some. This store is truly the master of all trades. From farm essentials, animal feed, outdoor equipment, gardening supplies, sweet treats, clothing, home decor, they truly have it all. The staff does seem pretty distant and uninterested in shoppers. I don't mind being ignored, but it does make me understand the negative reviews a bit better. I loved seeing the baby chicks and am now debating if I need chickens. read more

I used to love this store but the inventory robot ruins the shopping experience. It blocks aisles and you have to back up and go around it. And to top it off you know that position should be given to a human. I guess Tractor Supply will get my entire business. read more

I've been shifting equine purchases from Olsens to Cal-Ranch since the former changed management a year ago. Every young man who has helped me with 40 and 50 pound sacks of feed has been knowledgable, helpful and professional. I will keep track of their names in the future. Today, Abimelee, (Abi) part of the excellent management team, was exemplary in tracking down the cleanest rice bran sacks for me that wouldn't fill my SUV with loose product. Many thanks, Abi. We go to CAL Ranch at least once/week and I am torn. We go here for the product selection and always find what we need... for our chickens, gardening tools, guns/ammo... lots of great stuff! Love shopping here! First, the staff throughout the store are amazing. Knowledgeable, friendly, helpful... amazing! But the snotty girls at the register have made us rethink coming here. They almost refuse to be nice... or even say "hi". Its almost like they are having a contest to see who can be the rudest/coldest. My husband is one of the most tolerant human beings I have ever met but even HE is getting sick of it. How hard is it to be kind and genuine and friendly? Especially to paying regulars? As easy as it will be for us to go to Tractor Supply or Olsen's Grain? Just. Be. Nice. read more

I go to Cal Ranch for multiple things. In the livestock supplies area, the people that work in that department are fantastic. They go out of their way to assist you. If you have a question, they will either answer it or find the answer for you. You do not get the "I don't know" answer. The gun area could use some work. There's a bell to ring on the counter and I've never had anyone show up to assist me, so I've given up and started going to Sportsman's Warehouse. The clothing area is quite big and a lot of variety. The only issue is you can never find someone there to assist you. Ok I've seen one lady there one time that I went there, but she was too busy talking to her friend to acknowledge a customer. She talked to him for at least 20 minutes as I gave up and walked out the store. All the other times I have been there, no one is working in the clothing area. The changing rooms are locked so you cannot try on clothing because you cannot find someone to unlock the door. They would probably sell more clothing if someone worked in that department. The prices on livestock supplies are the cheapest I have found in Flagstaff and they have a bigger variety. They have a huge area from Stihl products and they have certified Stihl service people. They have low cost vet services there, but I would not take a puppy there because there would be a good chance of the puppy catching something since dogs just wonder around and your puppy can pick up something. This has nothing to do with the cleanliness of Cal Ranch, just because some pets may have something like parvo and since puppies may not vaccinated against it, your puppy may get 8/22/2019. Still no one for clothing can be found to unlock dressing rooms. It is like a ghost town in the clothing area. I left clothes next to the dressing room because after walking around looking for an employee anwaiting for someone to walk by for 20 minutes, I just gave up. 2/19/20 Went to look for new work boots and decided to look at a lace up boot. I looked for a 11 wide and found one. I opened the box to try them on and they were used. Yes used. Dirt all over them, soles dirty, and you could see some wear on the soles. I'm amazed how different my few experiences have been at this store. I rarely even stop because finding an employee to assist means asking the front to please send someone to where I need. Sometimes, someone shows up to assist. Or, I can walk all the way to the front to ask for help again. All the prices are the highest possible. On my last reluctant trip, I was overcharged $5 on the spur straps I bought. The correct price was clearly marked on the tag. I'm not going back to get my $5 because the check lines are endless as well as slow for some obscure reason. No employee has ever sought to engage me in friendly conversation. They are just there to take my credit card without thanks. At Olsen's, I get friendly banter. The staff knows me. I'll keep shopping at Olsen's. read more

Not a review of a particular location, but my dealing with the website. They advertised Norma 124gr 9mm for $10.99/box, so I ordered 20 boxes (10 box limit per order). A few hours after placing my order, I noticed the price went up to $14.99/box, and a few hours later I received an email from CAL Ranch that my orders were being cancelled and my money refunded. I guess they realized the demand was higher than expected and that they could sell the product at the higher price and make more $$. Later, they sent an apology email offering to either let me buy it for the original price in store or take $10 off any order over $50. Well...1. I live halfway across the country from the nearest store...and, 2. Why would I place another order with this company, not knowing if they're actually going to fulfill it or send another "We're cancelling your order...you'll get a refund in a few days." read more

Great store! You go in thinking you'll find some hunting stuff or maybe camping stuff but you find SO MUCH MORE!! They've actually got great home decor, clothes for all ages, boots/shoes and lots more. I love finding "that's such a good idea" stuff. They've kind of got it all for anything you might need from outdoors to indoors, guns to little chicks (seriously, in the spring you can get live little chicks). The staff is friendly enough, though I don't know that I've ever seen them roaming the store, just posted up at registers or behind counters. That's not a big deal to me though. Everyone's always very pleasant here. Very brief in & out today but had a nice chat with the gentleman behind the counter towards the right side of the store & got a good deal. Masks are required & they appear to be taking all covid precautions (yelp had a pop-up about it just now so figured I'd note the safety measures being followed here). Well spit fire, and save the matches! This store awoke my inner redneck like a good Bloody Mary can get you back on track after a long night at the MGM craps table! Truly, my greatest regret about this place was knowing the bride and brood were waiting in the car while I ran in to look around. There were tools and farm equipment and camping stuff and knives and animal supplies and jeans and boots and... It was like a giant toy store for city folks who always dreamed of quitting the day job and getting that little place out in the middle of nowhere. If you put WalMart, Home Depot, Granger, Boot Barn, and a Feed store in an empty oil drum and rolled it down a hill, what would spill out when you reopened it would be this store... Except all the rude, careless, and unknowledgeable employees at those other stores don't work here-- everyone was nice and helpful. I'm looking forward to my next trip to Flagstaff so I can go back here and get some stuff for my tinkering, building, gardening, and outdoorsy projects. read more

Cal Ranch has a variety of things needed for my job and farming. However, while I was there recently there were several employees and shoppers not wearing masks. This is a small chain of what I like to describe as a Walmart for ranchers and outdoorsmen, only with better products and a nicer selection of cowboy hats. They have camping gear, tools, animal feed, power supplies, and even a clothing section. As for the selection of things to choose from, and it is less expensive than other stores of this type and they have a lot of choices to choose from, including brand names such as craftsman, purina, etc. It's a big store, so you will find a lot of things, and if you are a fan of shopping for tools, clothes, and outdoor gear, you can get lost here and have a lot of fun. My only problem with it is that the customer service here is not the best. During busy times, I have noticed that there are only two people manning the desk, when in fact there should be more. This leads to long waits. Also, sometimes products that I am looking for run out of stock and it takes them quite a while to get them back. Aside from those two minor quibbles, this is a great store, and I would suggest anyone who enjoys a unique shopping experience and/or considers themselves to be an outdoorsman to visit this place. read more

this is the worst place to do business with. I went in to buy .22 ammo. They said I had to be put on a list, and they would call me when it came in. It never came in but when I was there after the list, a pallet came in & they had plenty of .22 ammo. I bought some off the pallet. Which means the list has no meaning at all. If you are in the store when the ammo comes in from the truck, you can buy it. This is a fucked up place. Fuck you cal ranch store. It has been 8 months and no call from the list! Assholes a plenty here. Go to Horizion shooters, down the street. They are honest and no list to be put on. Fucking liers. Keep far away from this place for guns. Their yard tools are of the highest quality and medium priced--much better than the local competitive stores. Rigging supplies are priced lowest of this area. This place has a large and varied selection of everything under the sun; farm implements, snow blowers, sporting goods & firearms, feed supplies, canning supplies, gardening supplies, clothing, footwear, hardware, tools and so much more! When it first opened I initially thought their prices were rather high. I've since come to the conclusion that their goods are fairly priced (either prices went down or I was wrong, don't really know which). Anyway, I like the place because of its immense and varied selection. It kind of reminds me of the old Co-op in Phoenix. The people/service is just OK, nothing remarkable. read more
