I needed a frame for a local breweries-styled print I received on Christmas (it was from local merchant Twig in Lakeside), so I brought the print with me and headed into Michael's. After testing it with several frames, I opted for a fairly priced classic brown and black frame. It had two hooks in the back, so I checked the picture-frame hardware aisle for other options. Command Strips were one, but after speaking with one of the ladies in the custom frame department, she recommended some of the metal twine. She had some extra, so she cut off a piece for me and threaded it through. Definitely above and beyond! It's been hanging right next to my front door ever since, and people comment on it when they walk in. Wish I would've read the reviews before trying their curbside pick-up. I didn't receive a receipt email or anything. But that money was surely processed in my account. Called and was told it could take 20 minutes to an hour... and yet I've watched 20+ people cycle into the store. If it wasn't for trying to prevent exposure to my children I would've spent less time waiting for them to let me in. Smh. Go to Midlothian across from the town center! It's worth the drive. This location is one of my faves. I've shopped in here over the years, but recently have found myself in here weekly---oh craft habits and Michael's sales and coupons! I like the layout of this store, compared to others in the area, this one has things placed where I think they actually make sense. The staff is generally nice and helpful here. I recently went with a friend to their open event/planning space, where they offer free use of their craft room and use of their supplies. How cool is that?! I come here a lot for planner supplies, and the use of their space is just a bonus if you want to do some things onsite. I still visit other locations, because they all have different stock and clearance too, but I recommend this location for routine shopping. read more

Saw that they were doing curbside pickup orders (to assist with social distancing) so I figured I would give it a go because I've been avoiding all contact with the outside world due to COVID-19. I placed my order online, paid, and was told it would be ready for pickup in 3 hours or less & they would bring it out to my car. 8 hours and two phone calls later the girl on the phone finally tells me my order will be ready in 15 minutes (at this point it's 8:30PM). So I drive there and wait-- a few minutes later I go inside and am told my order wasn't in stock and has been cancelled...? I received no email saying it was cancelled and my card was charged:/ Would have been nice if they could have called me back and told me that instead of having me drive all the way out there. read more

We've been using Michael's since these locations used to be called MJDesigns. If you are into crafts, then this is your place. We usually will go to Ben Franklin as it is closer to where we live but I think Michael's has a better selection of frames. I buy a lot of posters and limited edition prints in the 18"x24" size and the quality and selection of their pre-manufactured frames outshines Ben Franklin (soon to be known as AC Moore). read more

Michaels is my favorite. I live here. Seriously, I do. As an event planner and craft lover, it's pretty much an unwritten rule that I have to go to Michaels no less than 4 or 5 times a month. I am all about having a great event and nothing makes a great event like a great ambiance. Nothing makes a great ambiance like stuff you can buy from Michaels! From cute knick knacks, art supplies, custom frames, baskets, bridal accessories, to children's crafts and Holiday decor, there's nothing you can't find. I love Hobby Lobby and all, but I think that Michaels is a little bit more easy to navigate and has more of what I need. Between Michaels and Amazon, I am set! I never seem to come out of Michael's with only the items that I go in there for. I'm such an undercover craft nut, but the problem is I hardly get around to all the projects I try to do. Today was just a pleasure visit, not for anything specific. I ended up leaving with supplies for a project and actually finished it in one night, but anyways, on to the review: This location on Broad is clean and well organized. Whatever your crafting poison Michael's pretty much has you covered. Scrapbooking, painting, jewelery, woodwork, framing, baking, home decor, and much more. I will comment that their scrapbooking section is not quite as extensive as other Michael's locations or the AC Moore at Willow Lawn but it's closest to me. They always have neat ideas and examples out that match the seasons/holidays. The girl that checked me out was friendly, though it appeared that she was unaware of some of the sales that they had going on in the store. Since I work in a customer service orientent industry I feel that it's important to know these things and hopefully she takes the time to be better informed in the future. I didn't ask any questions about it, but staff should be knowledgeable enough to point customers in the right direction if called upon. read more

Who doesn't love all Michael's locations? This one however, is my absolute favorite! Any "lay out" nerds in here? ‍ I'm definitely one of them, and I really love the layout of this store! Staff is also always incredibly friendly and just generally joyful to be around/ ask for any updates on merchandise and where specific items might be located. I'm not a major crafter, but I lover browsing their home decor and small DIY merch when I need to create something special. Highly recommend this location to anyone! I went to michaels for some artificial flowers. Big sale and sign 70% off Fri and Sat. Above flowers I took time to pick. Stood in long line got to register and they did not ring up on sale bi told cashier of sign and asked to check but she said they aren't ringing on sale and did not want to check further. Wasted 1 hr of my time. I will order on amazon or go to Hobby Lobby. Horrible customer service and deceptive advertising. read more

The in-store pickup option is worthless and frustrating. I placed an order at 11:30 am. It was a small, uncomplicated order; it was four of the same item. I never received an update or confirmation that my order had been received. I called the store 4 hours later and they said that they were working on it. Another two hours goes by with still no update. I called again and they said that the order might not be ready until the next day. I ended up cancelling the order. I don't see the point of their in-store pickup option if you can't get it within 7.5 hours of ordering. They can't possibly be doing much business if this is the speed at which they're operating. I would've been better off just standing in line for two hours and getting what I needed myself. read more

I do like checking out the different Michaels' stores. Each one has more selection than others with scrapbooking. I came upon a great sale this time. This particular location seems to stock more than others. Is it because it is on Broad Street? I don't know, but when I am in the area and have the time to stop I do end up spending more money than I should. I wish they would offer a class with Tim Holtz's concepts. read more

Standing in line for 30+ minutes, one cashier working the register. When I asked if anyone else is working especially the week before Christmas, the response I received is a snappy, " I've already called somebody!" Very disappointed! Richmond doesn't have much in the way of crafts stores but in my opinion Michaels' is the best in the area. it is cheaper than Hobby Lobby and has more choices than Jo Anne's. Michaels' has coupons weekly and that helps with the prices. The staff is not very knowledgeable, but they are friendly. The stores are well organized. They do not carry the most up-to-date craft products but they do carry all of the usual products. It is a great store for childrens' crafts, carrying all types of kits for children and adults. A good place for most of your craft needs. read more
