    Curbside pick up
    Abby R.

I had curbside pick up today. I ordered online and my order was literally ready within 30 minutes. They send you a text notification to let you know it is ready and the parking space for curbside is right in front of the store. The lady that came out to bring my bag was super friendly. She joked about the weather since it was hot today but it was supposed to be cold. I know that is super small but it just goes to show how friendly she was not just here is your package bye. I really love this newer location. The store is super clean and organized. Each time I have been inside there are multiple people at the registers so the line always goes quickly even if it is long.

I'm a big fan of arts and crafts, so anything that allows creativity to flourish is a winner in my eyes. Enter Michaels, the emporium of innovation, invention and artistic creativeness. It has so much more to offer than just art and craft supplies. There are classes where you "pay to play" for both adults and kids, a great way to get involved or pick up something new and meet new people. This store is one of the newer Michaels stores in the area. Helpful and friendly staff, same style layout for familiarity and kept clean. Then there's the constant discounts that change throughout the year; 50% off Christmas items, 40% off Halloween items, 50% off all baskets and decorative boxes, 40% off Fall items, buy one get one 50% off wedding decor etc etc - it's never ending! These do change often so just keep an eye out.

There is a 7-11 next door, but the two parking areas are not connected, so be sure to come into the one that they have. My visit here was on May 10, 2025, with my mom. My mom does a lot of yarn stuff. What brought us here was for her to check out what they had available. With other craft stores closing over the past few years, the options are getting more limited in the area. There are several cameras around as well. When we came in, we were immediately greeted by the staff. They asked if we had any questions or if we were looking for something in particular. At that point, mom said that she was just looking, so nothing specific in mind. I was also looking around with what was available here. I didn't realize there were different forms of yarn. I thought yarn was yarn. I guess that makes it a yarning achievement for me. There are several yarns that are handcrafted and made locally. As such, prices are going to be higher as well. Some of them were pretty high, but it's understandable when they are locally made. However, there were more cost-effective ones available as well. In the end, mom didn't purchase anything in this visit. Overall, this was a nice visit. The staff were friendly, and we were able to just walk around and see if we found anything. There is a large selection of yarn, both locally and from other countries, so the wide selection is good. This place is worth checking out if you're looking for yarns that you may not find elsewhere.

Let me know that they have classes and some informal sessions if you need help which I will. I can do a scarf and a baby blanket and that is where my skill set ends They have a beautiful selection of yarns and there were also kits for the crochet animals that I would love to try and needle felting. I can't wait to go back and give something a try

Considering that there are only two other yarn stores in the greater Richmond area, it's nice to know that there's something for everyone if you're in Richmond proper. You may also find a range of customer service. The first time I went in, I felt very welcomed by the staff members and they answered all of my questions. I was happy to make my purchase. This is what prompted me to return. The second time I went in, the staff member at the register was chatting with an exiting customer about the election. I don't mind a political disagreement or difference but I do mind vindictive racially charged whispers. If your hand is over your mouth as you gleefully lean into your inner mean girl, a part of you knows that what you said isn't entirely classy. Your candidate winning does not excuse bad manners or a lack of decorum. However, it's low form to wish the losing candidate ill, and to hope that they go back to the hole they crawled out of. Wow. It just goes to show that age is not associated with class. Folks are entitled to their opinions, but if you're a staff member hoping to make a sale, it's probably best to keep that under wraps or at least away from your workplace. Not classy, not demure, not mindful at all, and definitely not the kind of behavior that would make America great ... at any point. Note: I do not believe that this staff member reflects the entirety of the others. I do think that, had it not been the day after the election, this person may have been less likely to be less mindful of others in the store. That said, big moments in history do reveal our true character, and I hope this staff member takes the time to be more empathetic and aware of their surroundings the next time they are at their workplace.

She taught ceramics in our home when I was a kiddo, she hand painted floral designs on mailboxes, and she could make or mend clothes. Now in her 80s, knitting is her favorite pass time, and so we stopped in at Center of the Yarniverse to check out their offerings. This is such a great place to browse a variety of yarn, wool, patterns, beautiful books, tools of the trade, and I walked away with some holiday gift ideas. The ladies who were working this day were welcoming without being overbearing. I actually ended up purchasing something small (and locally made) for myself, and I felt zero judgement for it not being related specifically to knitting and or crocheting. I noted that they have classes and social events. And another great thing is that there is parking! Ashland can get a little busy so having parking right at the shop is very much appreciated. If you have family or friends who are into knitting or similar craft hobbies, this is a great local shop to support!
