Absolutely horrible customer service.!!! They close at 9 and I arrived at 8:08 but they refused to inflate two balloons I wanted to purchase for my daughter's birthday - her bday was the next morning. I was told by the manager they can refuse up to an hour before but no where does it state that. Apparently they were two backed up with two other orders (2 balloons each order) and "other things to do before close". I was told last month when I purchased my sons balloons to come closer to close so the balloons would stay inflated by morning. I'm sure Michaels is taking on extra balloon orders due to the close of Party city but perhaps you should not offer a service you can't provide and then cite a rule refusing service 52 min before close that is posted no where. Shoutout to Vons down the street for having some compassion and not referencing imaginary rules to prevent doing their job. Would not reccommend this Michael's read more

We had several bunches of balloons for my son's birthday from Michael's and they did an excellent job. The balloons were ready on time and they prepared them in a way that made them easy to get home. All the balloons were exactly the same shape(some balloon places don't fill them equally) and they were beautifully tied with curling ribbon and finished off with ribbon curls. They looked so professionally done and made our birthday pictures look great. An added plus is that have a huge selection of balloons to choose from. What can I say: I'm a Michaels fanatic. I do a lot of crafting so I always have an excuse to wander in and find something a little more than interesting to dive into. They have a good variety and selection of art goods, jewelry making supplies, yarn, wood working, framing, dried flowers and even room decor that includes whatever holiday is closest. Good news? You will even find that plastic dinosaur you've been searching for. The help is very polite and the store is neat and well kept. They also have a lot of coupon opportunities so you can save money and accrue discounts if you become a member. Enter Nancy at the service desk for picture framing at Michael's . She was terrific. I had purchased a lovely vintage poster of a very charming girl. From framing to matting, her suggestions were amazing. We just had so much fun together on this "very important" project. Our exchange ended with a thorough discussion ( no one was waiting in line ) about what the girl in the should be named. We decided on Miranda. I will spare you the details of this decision. I would HIGHLY recommend only doing online orders pick ups. That way you ensure they have your items on hand, and won't leave you in the isle feeling stupid. I went in today looking for two items that had plenty of stock (over 100pcs for both items). The store was not busy, and the lines were not long, but I wasn't able to find anyone to ask for help for at least 5 mins. When I did get help, they had me walk over to "double check" that it wasn't in the isle. I had plenty of time to look and knew it wasn't there. After they confirmed I was looking at the stock in the correct location, another associate came over to look and said it was in the back. Long story short, I waited 26 minutes in the aisle and left without my items nor anyone telling me if they had it or if they needed more time to look. I understand things happen and there are errors in the system, but to have no communication was really frustrating. read more

I am an art student and I had to buy a lot of my materials here unfortunately. On the evening of Saturday 1/18/2025 I came in so I could buy the things that I needed for school, and since my luck is pretty much universally terrible, my bank decided to pull some absolute chicanery and decline my card because it was a large transaction. Of course, this had to occur after regular business hours for my bank so there was no way to resolve the issue then and there. Add in the detail that the store was getting ready to close... I am not a happy camper and now I've got the woman who was closing, who was seemingly in a big hurry to go home, prodding me to hurry it up so she could close but she appeared kind enough at the time to offer to have my order held to be paid for and picked up the following morning. She asked for my name and told me just to give employees my name in the morning and I could buy everything then. So imagine my surprise when I came into the store first thing in the morning and absolutely nobody in the morning crew knew anything of an order that was put aside and even went to check where these holds are kept....so I had to spend a good portion of my Sunday morning having to repeat the shopping that I already did on Saturday night. I really don't understand why this woman would just BS me like that. I had like $1000 in my bank account I'm baffled why she would just assume that I wasn't gonna come back for the stuff I needed for school...materials that are mandatory for the classes I'm taking. I just love Michaels!The options and their coupons with different discounts makes a crafty heart beat faster! It's a great place to shop. This location is clean, well stocked and everyone I spoke with were friendly and helpful. I like this location with plenty of parking and their opening hours. I have bought items for my baby shower to wedding related items in here and you can always get great deals for seasonal items if you buy at the right time! It isn't the cheapest place to shop for crafts but it is the place that has it all. Well, I do have to say that the customer service at the register has improved as well as the line up system, finally. Michael's can be chaotic especially during the holidays, and especially at this location. The parking is quite hairy since it shares it with other businesses. I do appreciate the size of this store, more room to push your carts and a little bit more to offer with some of the merchandise. This particular location of Michael's is one of my favorites. I'm not usually a fan of the chain, but the only other DIY option there appears to be here in Oceanside is JoAnn, which can get me credibly pricey with not nearly a fraction of the selection the local Michael's has. This would be a5 star review except for the fact that the wait time between standing in line to check out and actually getting out of the place is ridiculously long and usually grossly understaffed. That's not to say that the staff are bad, but this definitely shows a lack of foresight on the part of the store manager when it comes to prioritizing the duties they're doling out to their employees. There are staff all over the store most of the time, facing shelves, pricing items, and generally making themselves available for any customer who may need assistance or has a question. I love that about this Michael's, and it actually sets it apart from previous experiences I've had with other Michael's stores (and the lack of floor staffing is also another reason the local JoAnn's will only get my business if I'm desperate and can't find what I need at Michael's...and I don't have time to wait for it to come in online.). The staff are all friendly, and they are all surprisingly knowledgeable about where all of their merchandise is located...for a store this huge, that's really impressive! If I have any local crafting supply needs, Michael's is usually my first choice. Now hopefully soon, they'll do something to remediate the congestion at the checkout aisle. Just your average craft store that carries a slim selection of mostly low to mid range goods. I hate the 40% coupon program they have. Just offer it as a blanket rule daily. The results are the same, except for the personal data they are stealing from their customers by way of the bar code on the receipt. This Michael's location is fairly decent. Since, I moved further away from Oceanside, I tend to visit this location when I absolutely need to and when I have a 40% or 50% coupon to use. The lines at this store is longer than the Michael's in Encinitas. It never fails. BUT the 40 to 50 percent off on a pricey item is worth the wait. read more

Subpar customer service and awful inventory tracking. Went in to find a drawer in the store because there app started they had them in stock and we couldn't find it. We went to the register to ask for help and the girl just tells us the aisle number instead of guiding us there or finding someone to guide us. Of course the item wasn't there and tracked another person to check the back(upstairs for them apparently) and came back stating it wasn't there. They said the Vista had 2 and that WE should call to reserve it. Of course we called and drove there just to find out they dont either. Took something here to get framed and when I picked it up, it looked great. I brought it home and within hours realized that the adhesive had become loose and part of the item was crooked in the frame. I asked that they fix it and when I picked it up the second time, noticed that the item was not placed as we had discussed. Disappointed and frustrated, and out of fear that they would ruin this one-of-a-kind souvenir, I just took the frame and left. Now I have a $600 frame job that I don't care for and just plan on having it re-done as soon as I get over the shock of wasting that much money. Came to Michael's Sunday evening, to get a quote on a frame (16 x 24), but it seemed the brunette working the counter was not that interested in the business, endless rolling of eyes for unknown reason, nor did she offer options, except tell us it would cost $252.63 w/a current store sale price. We opted to hold off and went to hobby lobby the following Monday as they too have a frame department. What a huge difference in customer service - especially when it came down to options i.e. glass and backing of frame. For the exact frame, given the option of regular glass or museum, plus the option of backing we were given a quote of $96.25 to have our custom frame made...that's a a huge price difference. No brainer we to go with Hobby Lobby's frame department vs Michael's. read more

I was in the area and was tasked by my fellow board members to pick up stickers for an event the following day, so I stopped into Michael's since it was convenient. Walked in and there's just too much to see. I found the sticker aisle and then some. I seriously was getting dizzy with all the knickknacks this place has. If you sign up for their emails you can receive the latest updates and coupons. I like how they offer workshops for knitting, scrapbooking, etc. They even have activities for the little ones you just have to make sure you sign up in the store and check to see if you need to purchase any of the materials for the class. I brought 2 pieces of artwork to be framed. I got a price and picked out frames and told them to proceed. I know framing can get very expensive at local places but couldn't find a mom and pop shop to go to so I settled for here. it was top dollar. I figured ok, top dollar I should get top notch service. two weeks later I come back after they called me and was showed the pieces and was extremely disappointed. The frames were both damaged after they said they were quality checked. Even the matting was flawed so they sent them back. I stopped in two weeks later to see what was going on and one piece was done and they had issue with the other. So I grabbed the one and waited for the other. two weeks later they called me and said to come back again. The larger piece was done. I came back and there was some sort of rainbow going on from the glass being cut improperly and the matting was damaged. So the manager held the piece up for me out of the lighting and said this is how you view it. I said there was no lighting and I can't see it properly, so I took the piece and laid it down so the light would allow me to see the flaws. she gave me an attitude and told me that's not how you look at it. she saw the imperfections and insisted it was the best they can do and if I wanted perfection she insinuated I wasn't getting it there. I called my lawyer and he said give it back until they get it right. She explained to me that they were loosing money and she's only going to have it done one more time after that they are giving me my money back. Bottom line profit over people. I found out they replaced the glass with an upgraded glass to make up for the sub par work and it was cut improperly. So they gave me back the original glass and told me to take it or leave it with the scratched matting. Big corporations where customers come last. It's a shame these big guys put the little guys out of business. And the manager making excuses for the crappy work. So disappointed. I'll never step foot in this place again. And it won't matter to them. Customer service is a thing of the past. read more

Literally would not even tell me his name despite me asking repeatedly (another employee eventually told me). Then asked me rudely to "step aside so I can manage". Went with my friend to purchase items at this Michael's store. My items included gift cards. My friend took her items (which included gift cards) to an available cashier, while I took my items to another. The cashier who waited on me was an older caucasian woman, who informed me that she will not accept my payment for the gift cards unless I gave her a debit card or cash. She stated "You cannot use a credit card to purchase credit cards; that is not allowed." I informed her that I've purchased GIFT cards using credit cards before - even at this Michael's store. This cashier refused to accept this information, so I purchased my other items and skipped the gift cards. Well, I was very very disappointed to hear that my friend was able to purchase her gift cards from her cashier. I wanted to turn around and inform the ignorant female cashier who assisted me about her misinformation regarding gift cards... but the line to get back inside the store wasn't worth the wait. I purchased my gift cards at at Joanne's and guess what? I used a credit a card. The cashier (darned, didn't get her name) at Michaels needs training. Should've also verbally slammed her for not wearing a face mask. She had on a clear face shield, but this is not the same as a mask, and she kept coughing. During this covid epidemic, I'm surprised she got away with just the shield, as everyone else that entered the store was required to wear a face MASK and not just a face shield. read more

My boyfriend and I did a lot of holiday shopping at Michaels this year. They had awesome black friday deals. I bought kids craft stuff and beads for making necklaces for my friends. My boyfriend had a ton of questions and he was always answered politely even during the rush. I was somewhat confused about a couple things on the receipt and even though I was kind of being an idiot about things (a polite idiot)... They patiently explained how the discounts were applied and removed. I wasn't happy with the policy but I understood it at least by the end. Basically if you use a $5 off coupon they discount each item by a certain amount. However that means if you return it you only get that amount of money back, essentially losing the $5 off coupon if you wanted to buy something different. I love their sales. I get art, craft, sewing and kids stuff here fairly often. I love looking through the $1 bins and everything I find there seems much better quality than at the Dollar Tree or the $1 bins at Target. I have never had bad customer service at a Michaels and this one didn't disappoint. read more
