I decided to scratch off a bucket list item, knitting a sweater from an intermediate level pattern. Checked out a few places before wandering in to Carol Fuller's shop. Carol helped me find a pattern, choose an alternate yarn to the one suggested and here I am a few weeks later. She has tutored me in reading and adapting the sizing to fit with my body type, learning all the intricacies of cabling, increasing/decreasing and explaining so clearly how to proceed whenever I get stuck. This has turned into a wonderful past time and my sweater project is moving along quickly. Already thinking about my next project. She has classes in crochet, also, and probably lots and if other such projects!

This store just opened in La Mesa after being in Lemon Grove for years. I think it is more spacious and cheery, well-lit, more room for classes and instruction. Carol is very helpful in answering questions. The selection is good and the prices are fair. There is always something on sale or clearance for the budget minded and if she doesn't have what you need or not enough of it she will order it in for you. This is a real asset for knitters in the area. Welcome to La Mesa!

The service was good and the selection of the yarn was great. I thought the pricing was a good value and I'll return soon.

It is not the biggest store in the world. But I found waaay more fabrics I wanted to take home here than in any big box store I have been to. I thought the prices were good for the quality I was getting. I got some lovely woven cotton for nightshirts, some lace for my granddaughters dress, good Guttenberg thread, and a set of French needles and pins from a brand I had read about. The cliche of hugging the fabrics in the store because you love them so much is true here. I saw a 60's inspired bright silky print that made me want to sew a flowy caftan, move to Palm Springs, and throw a FABulous party. What more can I say?

The shop has a beautiful selection of apparel fabrics, with lots of tropical, fun, colorful options that feel perfect for flowy garments, alongside more neutral choices as well. I ended up purchasing a really lovely tropical viscose and an incredible deadstock Gucci bouclé that immediately spoke to me and it happened to be on sale, which made it even better. The owner was wonderful: warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely fun to talk with. We chatted about the fabrics and brainstormed what I might sew with them, which made the experience feel extra special. Highly recommend stopping by if you love sewing or beautiful fabric. It's a great shop with a thoughtfully curated selection, and I'm so glad I made it part of my trip.

In 2025, shelves were cleared out and there were broken items or Christmas trees up for grabs. Well, I now have a second tree lol! I could not pass up this deal!!! A $600 tree for $150?!? I was super excited because it looks real and is beautiful. I'm so excited to decorate at the end of the year. I was impressed by the girl at checkout. She wasn't flustered by the crowds. The tree I was waiting to get packed for me ended up being packed and sold to someone else due to poor communication. She immediately made sure I knew what else was available and any additional discounts she could ask about on my behalf. Loved that! They were putting out Valentine's day and St. Patty's day stuff in December. I thought this is crazy but I will definitely be there next week for the Valentine sales. I love all the coupons weekly and the variety of crafts. You can't go wrong at HL.

I am NOT disappointed -- the variety they offer is incredible. The moment I walked in, the energy was amazing. I made it about halfway through the store when a man in a beautiful blue polo shirt approached me with a fan of SuperLotto tickets. He told me to choose one. I pointed to one, and he laughed and said, "It must be your first time in here. Take one for yourself." I honestly thought it was a magic trick He asked what brought me in, and when I mentioned it was for a kid's birthday party, he explained that everything is sold by weight. He handed me a basket and told me to fill up the container with the colored gems and rocks. So I did... plus more. I walked the aisles at least 7-8 times because I just couldn't decide -- everything was beautiful. I spent way more time in there than I planned to. It's a family‑owned business, and Shlomo is such a kindhearted man. He even offered us a Nutella dessert. The whole experience was warm, welcoming, and honestly unforgettable. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this place. I'm definitely coming back with my son so he can "dig" the place too. A true hidden gem. I picked up a few large gems, 20 geodes, a basketful of gems, heart shaped rose quartz, a cat bronze art. well worth it! I was drawn probably because he shares the same birthday as my best friend!
