While this Michael's is a little trickier to find tucked away as it is, it's definitely worth the trek! My work recently gave us a budget to indulge in a hobby in, and knowing my brother had a birthday coming up, immediately said "BEDAZZLER" Who knew that bedazzlers do not affix to thermoses on their own? Who knew that you need 'Rhinestone Glue' to get them to affix? That said, off I went to Michael's where after some searching to find it (it's tucked past where the Toys r Us used be in Jantzen Beach) I was richly rewarded. The people there are incredibly nice, the selection is HUGE, and the person I spoked to in the glue section taught me more about glue than I ever knew was possible. As a bonus, I also picked up a new exercise stick while I was the for like 5 bucks! (4 ft dowel 3/4 inch). With this store a bit more tucked in, it seemed more clean and organized than other locations but apparently they suffer a great deal of theft. I would have not known - as I am not a thief, I am not thinking of that. I decided my bladder would not handle the shopping so I grabbed a basket so I could start shopping after since i needed glue which was right there at the back wall. Restroom clearly marked so off I went. Big signs with the 'restroom for customer only' and to find an associate to let you in... and the walk made the urgency a bit more but thankfully I could hear someone working in the framing area right there so I did the hello and can I trouble you for the code. Urgency growing as she fumbled the code over and over. Places apparently don't give the secret code out now and have to supervise you using the bathroom since, apparently, people memorize the code and give it out. THIS is where we are folks. Thankfully shopping was much easier than it was to use to restroom and I managed not to have an adult accident. The cashier was friendly and they had the super goopy glue I needed to get - they have a GLUE AISLE... so if you need to stick a thing to another thing, they got you. I managed to sneak past the Halloween stuff and BELIEVE ME, that's rough...I want it all! Then I went to the parking lot and was like WHOA What in the Actual F... because, you know that blinking blue like solar panel things you see in every parking lot now? IT SPOKE TO ME.... BELOWING at me ...VERY LOUD in an empty parking lot something about being a Micheal's customer and that they WERE FILMING ME... Ummm... WHAT??? I got in my car, after taking a picture - you got me and I got you creeper!! That was just waaaaaaay Xtra... It was 930am on a freaking Tuesday and I was the only customer - oh wait, I saw a husband and wife getting a game for their toddler.... I felt like maybe I missed the prison riot. So, I appreciate stores protecting themselves but the message I got is that I am lucky I missed getting stabbed by the unhinged people who also shoplift there while buying glue. What's not to love about Michael's. I'm not really a crafts person. I typically go there to look at their picture frames. But if you're interested in the Disney Land of arts and craft supplies this is the place for you. We have a friends who will literally spend several hours at Michael's. Came in on a Saturday to get a custom frame for an 11x14 cross-stitch project I recently completed. I wanted a couple matte colors to frame the artwork and a nice wood frame to match the decor in my house. There were a couple people in front of me and two employees behind the counter. They were both very nice and helpful. Aaron helped me decide on the matte colors and custom frame. I was super happy with what we came up with. He took his time helping me decide between multiple color combinations. I didn't feel rushed at all. He told me it should be ready in 2 weeks and assured me they would take special care of my cross-stitch. Overall a great experience at the custom framing counter. I can't wait to see my framed cross-stitch! Would recommend. read more

Tucked in the far back corner of the Jansen Beach shopping area, it's easy to miss this Michaels Craft location. I've been a big time crafter my entire life - make jewelry, create home decor, paint ornaments, adult coloring - so visiting Michaels when I need specific items or just to see what's new each season, is part of my routine. This store, like many of the Michaels in Portland metro area, needs a refresh. I find it so perplexing that stores that attract crafters are so uninspiring! That being said, they have all the typical sections and supplies in a relatively easy to find layout. I always check out the jewelry supplies in search of new and unique beads and findings. Same with the ribbon - I have a thing for French ribbon and toile. When I give a gift, the packaging is as special as the present. At Christmas, I have to stay away from this section is I can't stop myself from buying ribbon even though I'm well stocked at home! The faux greenery is also a favorite section especially the succulents. One would think that a succulent is an easy plant to maintain but that isn't always the case. Even the tiniest bit of water is often too much. Two years ago Michaels exploded with faux cactus of every type, size and price along with mid century mid planters and terrariums. I went to town! Sadly, the last two years succulents are hard to find - please bring them back! The seasonal items are also fun to check out as they always introduce new items, a smart strategy to keep their customers buying. I downsized my home a few years ago so I have to be super selective on new purchases but I still look, and when something is a WOW, I buy. The customer service here has always been pleasant. One cashier even proactively let me know that anyone 55 or older gets a 10% discount every day of the week. She was clearly cautious as she brought this up knowing that if I wasn't 55 or older, this would not be a compliment! Heck, I was happy to be educated and I try to remember to ask for the discount whenever I am checking out, but being so old, my memory isn't that great! Lots of parking right out front. Coupons always available on Michaels online so make sure to have them pulled up on your smartphone when you check out. read more

I went to pick up an online order. I got to the door at 6:04 pm - they close at 6. Five employees stood on the other side of the glass (definitely looking at me) and didn't move. I called the phone listed on the door a few times before all five employees walked out of the store, and right around me, standing about 6 feet from the entrance. They walked around me without a word. I said "Hi I'm really sorry I'm late, I..." and got cut off by "we close at 6, not 6:04". I said "I know and I am really sorry, is there any way I can pick up the chocolates I ordered? It's for my business and I'm completely out". Then she yelled "CLOSED!!!" and they all kept walking. So as I was walking back to my car I said "great customer service here". Two of the older women turned around and one of them yelled "you know what b*tch - f*ck you! How's that for customer service?" the other joined in and told me to go F myself. So I pull out my camera and get a couple glamour shots of them, assuming that their boss would like to see it. SHOCKING, right? So I call corporate and SEVEN full days later, the GM calls me back. I tell him what happened and he says "sorry, we'll deal with it in house." Really?? I told him I wouldn't feel comfortable shopping there knowing that these two were still employed, especially when there are so many people who would love to get paid 40 hours/week right now and do a good job. Went in five days before Christmas. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, in that store was literally waiting to check out. I waited 15 min to check out and only when I got to the front did they call another employee up to check people out. When I got to the counter I made a comment about the fact that the line is REALLY long and she got defensive saying "well we're short staffed". Really?? And then as I walk out the door ANOTHER employee comes to start checking people out. Never going here again. read more

I had the best customer service today at Michael's on Hayden Island Portland Oregon. One of the girls in the framing shop unfortunately I don't know her name was extremely helpful finding exactly what I needed and on top of that it was 50% off which she mentioned. I didn't happen to notice the 50% off sign so I'm glad she mentioned it otherwise I would not have purchased four of these items I was interested in. And a cashier by the name of Brandi went over and above with customer service in offering to find some more product in the back stock room for me to purchase. She also showed me on my phone how to go to michaels.com and you some coupons that were there she saved me a lot of money and made me a very happy camper. Kudos to both girls at the store because of their customer service I am going to be shopping there much more often than I ever have. read more
