A lot of that is likely the crowds on sale day, but isles are narrow and there are a few places where you can get "trapped" if other customers don't see you standing behind. I absolutely love stationary, and this place scratched my letter-writing itch. I ended up picking out a couple of sets of cards + envelopes to add to my collection. These are BEAUTIFUL and well made. Prices were reasonable, and the clearance items were an absolute steal. After numerous failed attempts at teaching myself, I booked a private lesson with Colleen. Over the course of two hours, she taught me all about operating my machine, basic stitches, entry-level sewing tools, and I even made a drawstring bag! She was kind, patient, encouraging, and a FANTASTIC instructor. I can't wait to take some of her group classes!! The store itself is great. Lots of sewing supplies that are of higher quality and will last you a while. The people who work here couldn't be nicer or more helpful. If you feel intimidated by learning to sew, this is a perfect spot to start learning. Even if you're already a great sewer, you'll find everything you need here. They have a spacious section in the back where they teach group and individual classes; you can also rent a desk/machine if you need some higher end equipment to work with. Put a Bird on It!…read more This is the place to come for your Portlandia fix, if you are into birds, or if you are a fan of the quirky and fantastic art of letterpress. I love it that you can hear the clickity clack of the presses from the minute you walk in, because they actually are conducting printing while you are in the store. The cards, stationary and wall prints (either suitable for framing, or in some cases, sold in frames) are artful, odd, and whimsical. I suspect that many people who don't know Lark Press stumble in during their two hour weekend wait for brunch mecca, Tasty n Sons. On the other hand, those epic waits provide great exposure to a reemerging art form that's taking off in Portlandia, and all over the Pacific NW.

Custom made wedding invitations and business cards. I took a look through their sample invitations and they're absolutely stunning. It was so good that we spent nearly 45 minutes in there.
