No issues whatsoever with the store - but I ordered "Same Day Delivery" 2 days ago and still haven't seen my order. Honesly, I only go to this Michaels because it's close to home and for the cheapo prices... with that being said... I am cheap and I'll admit it. I had one of those "i think you rung it up wrong" situations that happens a lot in stores. No biggie right? Well ya, I had a biggie... a biggie problem. Yes I wanted to buy yarn that was on sale for $.97 because hello, IT'S $.97! So I brought up a bunch of them to the register and it rings up as $1.79. "I thought they were $.97 it says that on the tags where I got them"... the cashier looks at me, looks at the screen, points at the screen and says "$1.79". Again I make my point and she does the same thing. It's like she didn't even understand me. To make it worst the Assistant store manager or something was standing behind me listening to the whole situation...not doing anything. In the end I got my price, but not after making my argument and SHOWING the person MYSELF where I got the yarn. Even Safeway has someone check prices for you if you think it's a different price. It took me 10 minutes to get away from that cashier. Over... $1.64 yes I know, but it's the principle! I've never had a problem since and I've never seen that cashier again. Yipee! I'm not sure what's up with all these crappy reviews, because Michael's is one of my favorite stores--I'm not even an artsy/crafty person (though I'm working on it) but I could spend hours browsing their many aisles of creative stuff and rummaging through the clearance and dollar bins. And their customer service is excellent, as I just yesterday experienced when I returned two t-shirts that shrunk after I washed them--that's right, they took them back after they were laundered. Granted, they were never worn, and the reason I washed them was because the decals said to prewash the garment before ironing them on. The manager was very understanding and I got a complete refund. As a newbie (never thought I'd) homeschool mom, this is my go-to place for supplies, decorations, craft kits (as cheap as $2), art materials (brushes, paints, paper, etc.), and whimsical toys the kids love from their many bins, ranging in price from a $1-3. I just got my girls water/glitter filled batons that were $1.20 on clearance and cat puppets that were $.70 each. I hoard a secret stash of toys, coloring books, stickers, etc. that I've picked up at Michael's (and sometimes the Dollar Tree and Target's dollar bins) to give as rewards and rainy day fun surprises. I've shopped at Ben Franklin as well, but it's more pricey and there is less selection of stuff for kids. Another plus of MIchael's is that it has bathrooms, which is a must for browsing with children in tow. The real proof that Michael's is a great store is that I, who dread most forms of shopping (besides food and books), actually choose to spend my limited kid-free time there. I find it therapeutic to wander the aisles and find treasures, or even just contemplate possible new forms of creativity to attempt in the future. I am actually rejuvenated after an evening alone there...and it's great they're open till eight. read more

I'm a craftsy person and have shopped many Michaels locations over the years. On the whole I've been reasonably satisfied with the chain. But I had one of the most ridiculous, frustrating retail experiences of my life at this location. I went in for one specific thing, and looked around for it with no success, although I was pretty sure I was in the right section. In the same aisle where I was looking, was an employee engaged in conversation with what I assume was another customer. When they finished speaking, I approached and asked the employee where I'd find the item. She said she was busy helping someone (well excuse me!!) but would call someone over to assist me, then she walked away. I hung around that area of the store for several more minutes, then wandered off when it became apparent that no assistance was coming. I looked around for any other employees in the aisles but didn't see any, so I picked up another few little things and headed up to the registers. I had to wait behind 4 or 5 people for my turn. When I got to the cashier, I asked about the item I hadn't found. He called someone to assist me and off we went, back to the same area of the store where I'd been looking in the first place. The item was in the same aisle where I'd asked for help, literally like A FOOT AWAY from where we'd been standing when the unhelpful employee totally blew me off!!! She literally would have had to point her finger and say "there it is." Do I feel like a total doofus for having missed seeing it in the first place? Of course! But that's not the point. The point is, she would not have had to move from where she was standing in order to help me. Literally a flick of the finger and a "right there, ma'am" would have done the trick. I had found her to be rude and unhelpful before, but discovering that it would have taken her less than three seconds to assist me was beyond appalling. So then back to the front of the store I went, and had to get BACK in the line, which was longer now, and wait my turn all over again. In the end, an errand that should have taken 5 minutes took close to a half hour. The kind of "customer service" I was given there was completely unacceptable. read more

I come in here for craft supplies every once in awhile. It's your standard Michaels store. They have some decent prices and a variety of selection. In comparison to other Michaels I have been to, they're selection is a bit smaller than other stores. The biggest downfall to this place is the fact that they never seem to have enough cashiers so the lines get to be long even mid-week at really odd hours. read more

Also good for storage supplies, framing services, craft classes, kids party stuff, cake decorating, jewelry making, knitting, painting... it pretty much has something for everyone. I've shopped here and taken painting classes here. The painting instructor is very nice and very talented. I look forward to attending more of her classes. It would be great if Michaels allowed suggestions for classes. I've asked about a certain type of painting class and I never hear back from them. I went to Michaels tonight looking for something specific. I checked online to make sure that they had what I needed and they did. I was a little disappointed when I couldn't find it. The first employee told me that if it wasn't on the shelf it wasn't in the store. She got a ladder and looked in 2 boxes on the shelf to make sure they were not in there. She told me that she couldn't find them so that meant they didn't have them. I went to the Framing department and asked to speak with a manager. She never got a manger but another employee came to the rescue, kinda. She looked very thoroughly for what I needed and didn't complain. I didn't catch her name but she has short light hair, with glasses. She was friendly and even though we couldn't locate what I was looking for, I appreciate the lengthy search she did and she should be recognized for that. read more

I'd like to be able to give this store five stars. But the place is just dirty. It's not the staff's fault. It's just an old place that could use a major update. The aisles are usually in order with things in their proper place. The staff recognize frequent customers and greet them warmly. Unfortunately, this store doesn't have the room for the inventory that a larger Michaels Store has, but hey, it's close and convenient. It's an easy in and out at this store if it's not a holiday. And the staff never seem to weary of stupid customer questions. They seem genuinely interested in whatever crafty crap project the customer is doing....or in my case, planning to do but never get around to it. All in all, it's what you'd expect. A craft store with decent prices, ok inventory, great sales if you keep up with them, and exemplary customer service. I'll be back again and again. read more

I came by to check what options they had for wedding favors. This is located right by the Northgate mall but where Chili's is located. Indeed, everything is very cheap and DYI but you get your monies worth. The wedding section was tacky but there was a few good things. I'm not very Martha Stewarthy so I decided on buying pre-made wedding favors. However, if you are on a budget it looks like a great place to get a few things. I notice DIY veil, invitations and personalized chocolate favors. I was lucky enough to have only 50 guest at my wedding in Vegas but if it was more I would have use Micheal's The store is bit messy and disorganized. I enjoy the adventure that is this store. I usually get lost in the section with the beautiful journals. I long for the huge hard cover ones to sketch and journal in, and every time I come in, I lust after them. Luckily for me, the Christmas sale is pretty awesome. Got almost everything half off today. If you're creative, walking into this store must be like having died and gone to heaven. I can see how the "want juices" would start to flow just like when I walk into the tool section at Home Depot. It's Michaels. It's got pros and cons - some of the stuff is good and some of its crap. The biggest pro is that they have GREAT sales. I recent purchased 48x48 painting canvases that retail did $90+ for $20 - a total steal. Make sure you google Michaels coupons and go to the stores website to get them. Just take a screen shot of all you can find and show to the cashier. I almost always walk out of there with a 30% discount on the entire purchase once all is said and done. They also take Jo Ann Fabrics and Hobby Lobby coupons so find those too for even more savings. If not for the coupons, I'd probably give the place only 2-3 stars. read more

Fun place for crafts and the prices and sales are good but everytime I'm in line waiting to pay tge cashiers are crap talking about other team members. The sales floor saleswoman/representative could be a lot nicer than she was. Upon ringing me up and showing me which yarn is on sale she then proceeds to tell me she wasn't the one who helped me to "translate the sign correctly" in which she did prompt me. Sigh. As a person who enjoys doing crafty things, I invariably end up at Michael's so often. It is not a joyous event. Of all the times I have been there, I have been greated by an employee ONCE. I was shocked! However, I have been told by employees (rather rudely), that I am in their way. I believe the correct way to tell someone that you would like to be where they currently are is "excuse me". As far as product selection goes, they do have a large bead selection, lots of craft supplies, yarn, and what not, but what bothers me is that when they recently expanded their beadwork section, they made room by no longer carrying embroidery hoops. They have a ton of embroidery thread and needles and everything, but no hoops. Overall, if you need some kind of craft supply, Michael's probably has it, and at a reasonable price. Just don't expect anything but substandard customer service, and be prepared to have to hunt through the entire store to find someone to help you. read more

Great customer service - This store is very well kept , neat and clean. I was greeted upon entering, found what I was looking for and looked for more items for my project. I then had a very friendly sales associate ask if I needed help finding anything and we proceeded to chat awhile about different products. She knew her stuff. A great store for finding craft supplies in Marin. We don't have too many of those. Several aisles of paper/scrapbooking items, doll clothes that fit American Girl dolls at a fraction of the price, sewing supplies, art supplies, etc. They also have a seasonal section that sells holiday items. Their frame selection is good and reasonably priced, and I used them to frame several items and they all turned out well. One caveat -- sales people not that knowledgable about glue for various projects. This place isn't bad to have around, you never know when you're going to need something for a project. I wasn't very happy when this place first opened, because an arts and crafts store isn't number one on my list that I would have liked to see go in this big place. And I still think something cooler could have made it in here. Still, after having it around for a year or two now, I've come to warm to it, the have a lot of things. And I've found myself in here several times. I also know a lot of people who go here often. Sometimes it can be slow at checkout, other times it's okay. The store can be a little sleepy, it's not uncommon to get the whole aisle to yourself. Overall, it's a useful store and I recommend checking it out if you're into arts and crafts, or just for the hell of it. The kids will like it. Review subject to change. I believe I was inadvertently the victim of theft. The last at the register was nice and I helped her win her contest (well I signed up for email" notices and perks to help her out - which I saw as a two way street what I didn't see as a two way street is being handed my receipt and not my gift card since she had sides me in processing the transaction and before I walked away my 6 year old said "Mom she has you card!" No way I thought but I stopped right away at the next available registered and started to search. I searched forever and made myself left to a family event. I needed one more item but I didn't have the gift card so I had to pay cash. Cash is not easy to come by these days. Anyway, after I went back and bought the corresponding item to my original purchase, I spent another 20 plus minutes rummaging through my clean and organized purse only to find no gift card. Now I have recently picked up on this at gas stations and other stores when you ask for your balance and the cashier will say 0 when you later learn or realize it had 40-50 dollars on it but this makes me angry that I was never given the card back and my 6 year old caught it. I say the review is subject to change because they are checking the video to find out exactly what happened and if the clear who was really nice and helpful actually took my gift card. Michaels is awesome! And they do have a lot.... but Ive noticed they are seriously slacking in their pony beads section. I like to make lots if Kandis and Kandi Cuffs, but they dont have a wide selection of color. Oh and they never have black. ALSO,,,,,,their perler section suckssssss! Although they have a lot of stuff, I was surprised they didn't have plastic canvas sheets. Not only that, it took me describing what it even was and showing a picture! I have gotten pictures framed in other Michael's, but will not visit the San Rafael location again. Davin, the framing manager, has not been pleasant to work with. I'm guessing he doesn't like his job as he is not personable and does not follow through. I've even said 'thank you' to HIM after I made a framing purchase. I had a print framed TWICE and now am waiting for the 3rd go-around. I finally got the store manager, Mario, involved today. Davin had not yet ordered the new print as he said he would one week ago. What stinks about this whole thing is how my frame got a 'seal of approval' before it was wrapped up....both times.... to prove it was framed by Michael's 'framing experts' . No one took the time to care. They just sent it out. Davin was hesitant the first time I picked up my frame as he kept saying he didn't see the ripples in the photo. Really? Are you going to debate me on this? Another employee saw it right away. The second time my picture was framed, Davin blamed some machine for making a crease. Ok, fine. So why did you not correct it? Why did you tell me it was ready for pick up? I am a teacher and I work PT retail. You may only make $13 an hour like me, but at least I give my best and provide great customer service. I suggest you look for another job. There are a million places you can go to make $13 an hour, or even more. Burger King pays $15. read more

I would give the store 4 stars for variety of supplies and prices. HOWEVER, I am so sick and tired of the rude, non-existent customer service they provide. The check-out line is always extremely long. The checkout people are downright rude. And if you question a price that comes up on their register - you have to do major battle to prove them wrong. There is never a sales person around to ask questions of. They used to have a wonderful Store Manager - Ravi - he went out of his way to help us on numerous occasions - even going to another store to bring us some odd item we needed for Emma's birthday. I was shocked to find out he had been let go for poor attendance. I visit Michael's routinely - once and sometimes twice a week. Ravi was always there. Pleasant, attentive, well informed on the stores merchandise. Poor attendance my fanny! Well the experience we had yesterday involved my daughter who is a delightful, pleasant, courteous 12-year old. We ended up with the Store Manager ringing up her purchase. He screwed it up three times and was rude, said it was her fault there was a problem with the purchases, coupon, gift card, etc. I was stunned! I ended up calling Michael's Corporate office in Irving, TX to complain because clearly there was no way I was going to get anywhere with the Store Manager. Pretty surprising but wonderful to find that even if the employees aren't paid terribly much that they are both knowledgeable and helpful. We went in looking for presentation boards and the only color available was green. Asked up front if there was any others and they immediately called the manager, who went back in the storage room and pulled three new ones for us. It was for a memorial service so really appreciated not having to run all over town to find these elsewhere. I also find what I need and I can get in and out in minutes.
