I found an item that I wanted and Michael's had it! Service was good and a nice very easy checkout. I shopped for it online.

I've been looking to buy frames for a while to hang some stuff on my walls. Honestly, I've been a bit lazy at it and always somehow miss the frame sale that Michaels has. Shopping nearby I decided to stop in here and see if maybe I could find some frames and make those dreams of mine come true. Short story here, I didn't. They were having a sale on frames, but it appeared that everyone else had the same idea as I did, or maybe they all needed the same size as I did. Each area I would go to the size I needed was gone. With Michaels being one of the few stores where everything they have is on the shelves, I was out of luck here. I have to say, I was amazed, however, with the way they were able to cram a whole store into this space. It is not your conventional setup for a Michaels and they somehow managed to get the whole store in here. read more

I enjoyed shopping in this well stocked Michael's this morning. I found Thanksgiving, Christmas and Chanukah decor and decorations at great sale prices. The store is clean and I also found the clearance section with lots of Cricut supplies, paints, brushes and stationary. Better than that, Demetra was very helpful at the register. So friendly and helpful. She even came around from her side of the register to put all my stuff into my cart. Lovely young lady. Next time I visit this area I will definitely be back. Such an amazing place to buy little things for homes, offices, garden, even garage, this is a place to get all kinds of acrylic paints and brushes for half of the price outside, they definitely have absolutely a very large variety of acrylic colors more than many places i've been to. Other thing i like about this place is home decor, they do jave planty of real bird feathers planey of shells and lots of different glass orbeez. read more

This Michaels store is in the Ellsworth mall on Colesville road. If you have parked your car in the garage you access the mall from the ground floor (outside) or the bridge on the fifth floor of the garage. At the center of the mall by the elevator & escalator the store is 3 floors down. Michael's is on the ground floor. The store has a spacious feel to it. The long checkout counter is on your immediate left and the seasonal area is on the right as you enter. Last week I bought ornament hooks here as we didn't have any and the ornaments kept falling off the tree! The price was $3 which was about twice as much as Target charges but they were sold out. I had not been to this store in more than 6 months. At the checkout I enrolled in the costumer loyalty program. By earning point you can get $5 off the purchase. They have a nice size seasonal decor area. Michaels is of course known for craft kits and supplies & art supplies too. We can't forget the variety of styles & different size picture frames they sell. Plus the costume framing service they provide. The counter to access this is along the wall in a corner at the back of the store. The staff I've seen have all been very helpful! The best thing about this Michaels location is that it's 1.5 miles away. No more driving to Aspen Hill. I have the Michaels app, so I don't need to wait for the Sunday paper for their coupons (which they have every week). I'm not really a crafter, but this is a great place for teachers to blow their pay checks. Show your school badge for 15% stuff you don't have a coupon for. This location seems smaller than the other two nearby. Maybe because it's in Ellsworth Place Mall (The Mall Formerly Known as City [Sh*tty] Place.) There are two entrances, with one being off Ellsworth that takes you directly in via an escalator. They are well stocked, but I wish they had Mrs. Grossman stickers (do they still exist?) and a better variety of rubber stamps. read more

I love that this place is close but that's about all I can say that is great about it. The place looks like Taz spun through the shop. Things are on the floor, dumped on random shelves and the staff looks unhappy and unmotivated. The line is always long. The space is too small for all the stuff that they are carrying in shop. I am glad they have a shop in downtown for when I need a few small things when I don't feel like going out to Rockville (I hate the Aspen Hill shop too), but it is just too cramped. read more

I had a great experience at Michaels thanks to Danielle. I wasn't sure of exactly what I needed to help with a project for my daughter's Girl Scout Troop. Danielle was very helpful in thinking through the project and problem solving with me. I was able to put back some items that wouldn't work and she directed me towards those that would work better. Limited selection but it's nice to have a Michaels in an easy to get to location. The main aisles of the store were clean and organized, but the clearance section was a mess both times I went. My most recent visit I went to find a unique frame for a photo but wasn't finding anything I liked. (Ross and TJ Maxx actually had better and cheaper frame options!). Michael's still is a great go-to place for craft supplies or for just browsing. Definitely make sure to check online for coupons before going! Terrible customer service. I called to check on my order and was told someone would call me back. I called back hours later, and was told my order was cancelled, but they don't know when I would get a refund, and again said they would call me back. I went into the store. One lower level manager was trying her best to help, but the store manager (whom I spoke to twice earlier) would not come help, even when I asked to speak to him. The order was cancelled because the items were unavailable, but there were at least 10 on the shelves that I could purchase today, but they could not honor the sale price I paid when I placed the order. Previously, I was a loyal customer for decades, and since I work across the street running kids camps and events, I shopped there almost daily during the summer. Won't be back. read more

This location handled my customer service issue PERFECTLY! I ordered a frame online for 50%. It was packaged poorly and arrived with the glass shattered. I brought it in and they immediately refunded the cost I paid for the frame. I then asked if I could be refunded the cost of shipping as well, and although that would normally be something handled through their corporate office, they offered to take that amount off the new frame that I was purchasing in the store. I'm very grateful to the manager and cashier who were very patient and accommodating. I will definitely be a returning customer!! read more

Customer service is apparently not a priority. My friend and I drove an hour each to meet up for an advertised crafting event. After being told by the sales associate that there was a scheduling mishap, the manager never came to talk with us nor the two other waiting patrons. I would not recommend this Michael's location. I wouldn't recommend Michaels Downtown Silver Spring for custom framing! I usually go to the one on GA but this one was closer so I gave it a try...big mistake! I took two original canvas paintings. Upon pickup I noticed that one painting was stretched properly.. it was buckling, they gave me a discount on this one. About a month later I went to hang the pictures And the the matting was coming apart on the other one. The staples went clear through the foam matting, which was recommended to me by the sale person. I took it back, a couple days later picked it up, I was giving no discount for my inconvenience. Just went to hang it up and they put the hanging wire on the wrong side of the painting. It's a vertical painting with a clear top and bottom. I can't believe this! This is unacceptable for the money I paid! I'll be calling to speak with a manager tomorrow. It's not the biggest Michaels in the area but that's almost a plus since you don't have to trek through a huge store to find fun things. Besides craft supplies this store had a lot of seasonal items: purple, glitter witch's hats (who doesn't need one of those!); purple boas to go with the hats; Halloween door wreaths; patriotic red, white and blue decorations (Labor Day!); plus the usual paints, yarns, etc. There are two entrances to the store. one from the street and one from Ellsworth Place (formerly City Place). On a Monday afternoon the store wasn't busy so checkout was easy. A nice addition to the evolving Ellsworth Place. read more

I'm leaving a review for the manager of the store, Omar, not for the store itself. I had shopped at the store several times before this unfortunate experience with the incompetence of Omar. Two weeks ago, I decided to do a custom framing job as a Christmas gift for my fiancé. I had a picture on my phone that I wanted to use so I went to Aaron Brothers online and uploaded the picture, selected a matte finish, selected a frame and had the complete order shipped to this store so that it would be a surprise for my fiancé. The last step in my process was a big mistake. Firstly, I never received an email or call from the store saying that my order had arrived. I happened to check the tracking number for the package one morning and realized that it had arrived two days earlier on a Tuesday. This was Thursday so I drove over there after work to pick up the order. I spent a total of 90 minutes at the store with Omar aimlessly walking around, unable to find this order. It said on the UPS tracking page that the order had been delivered and signed for by Omar so you'd think that he'd know where the package was, especially because he did not hesitate to mention several times that they rarely get custom orders delivered by Aaron Brothers. He checked the manager's office, he checked the stock room and he checked the back room where they keep completed framing orders. After 90 minutes, the other manager told me that she would call me in the morning if they had found it. I went home empty handed. The following morning, I called Aaron Brother's customer service line and they called the store and helped them locate the package. The customer service agent told me that the order had been placed under my nickname (Lynn) and not my full name (Lynda). Despite that, my last name remain unchanged so I still don't see how they could have not known that the package was mine. I decided to go pick up the package the next day (keep in mind that my first visit was a Thursday evening, I called Aaron Brothers on Friday morning and I returned to the store for the second time Saturday afternoon). I was greeted again my Omar and he remembered and went to go "find" my package. This time they could not find my package because the person who was there Friday morning (when Aaron Brothers called the store) put it somewhere in the front of the framing area and they didn't know where. I stood there for an hour while Omar and one of the framing technicians walked around aimlessly. They would go to the back room, to the stock room, to the framing room, back and forth, over and over again. They would call the other employee to see where he had left the package and then repeat the search over and over again. To say that my blood was boiling is an understatement. I mean how completely useless can this store manager be? Finally, they found the package right under the display of mattes that they keep on the framing counter. Mind you, Omar and his sidekick had checked the closets under that counter at least FIVE times and yet somehow it was there all along? I don't wish this kind of frustrating experience on anyone. I will never be visiting this Michaels location again. read more

This location is brand new, so maybe they're still working the kinks out. They seemed to have a very limited supply for a Michael's and the staff seemed to be extremely confused about where things could be found. Additionally, the prices were a bit on the high side, but luckily, you can combat thwt with online coupons. read more

Every time I go to this store I end up being cheated at the check out. The store uses misleading ads about discounts to convince people to grab an item and take it to the check out. However, the discount isn't applied at the checkout and customers end up paying full price if they don't pay attention. This happened to be every single time I try to buy something at the store. So I started paying attention and leave no-longer-discount items at the cashier. I encourage everyone else to pay attention! Also, the framing department at this store is a joke. A chubby guy with black curly hair is the laziest salesperson I've ever seen. Don't even bother trying to order custom made frames there. He'll always find a reason not to do it. And if you eventually convince him to take your order, it'll be a disaster. read more

~ It is smaller than a standalone Michael's but that doesn't mean the selection of products is a lot smaller than other Michael's IMO. I can usually find what I'm looking for. They still have supplies for lots of different types of art or crafts. I think they are able to stock this many items in a smaller space because it seems like this store is a little more densely filled than others. I might be imagining that though. ~ There is an especially good selection of stationery and other scrapbooking supplies. ~ The store is clean and organized. The only messy area I can think of is a PART of the toy section (probably harder to keep clean b/c i'm guessing little kids play with the toys) ~ It doesn't seem like there are a lot of employees on the floor. This isn't a negative for me because I like being left alone in stores, but I know it may be for some people. When I talk to the employees, most of them are enthusiastic and good at providing customer service. ~ When I have been there, checkout is not extremely fast but not extremely slow either. I placed an online order for pickup which should have been ready after 2 hours. It had been almost 4 hours when I called because there had been no update to the status. The people make excuses and do not own up to their actions/mistakes. They leave you on hold and expect you to stay there on hold you til they close. When you call back, they act shocked, make more excuses, and promptly place you on hold all over again. It's the absolute worst customer service. After being placed on hold multiple times, I lost my cool. Then, they stated that they were working on my order 15 minutes before closing. When I stated that I would come then to pick it up, I asked could they please allow me to pick it up 5 minutes late because I had waited for hours for them to get my order ready, they stated that they absolutely would not do so. They mess up, they are rude, and they make no effort to make amends for it. They even hung up on me. I have been to this store before. It's not that busy. I personally have zero intentions of ever going there again and I hope it gets the low ratings it deserves. If I could give it zero stars, I would do so. This review is understating just how rude these employees are. May they receive the same treatment from others that they dish out because they have no respect for their customers and the managers are the worst examples of customer service. read more

The tall employee with the round glasses and short hair (Julius I believe) literally grabbed an item from the wall and THREW IT on the floor near me and said "whoops" could you get that for me? ..He literally TOSSED the pack of tissue paper like he was feeding a dog a bone. Extremely disrespectful to say the least. This experience fueled me with enough rage for a lifetime. Like are you serious? Michaels need to better train people on their inventory! We asked two people about where to find wooden or metal rods. One couldn't bother answering us. One took us to the wooden parts of the store and say I have no idea. We asked the cashiers and no one has a clue. But only after 20 mins without anybody's help did we finally find it - by ourselves!! As I look around my home, I cannot imagine the beauty that is now reflected. I had over 15 pieces framed by Michaels (Silver Spring, MD) in September and October of 2018. Each framed piece has a unique quality of its own. DJ and Josh each placed their expertise in action. They discussed each piece with me and presented different formatting styles that would make the artwork "pop". Also, as a result, each piece is a professionally framed work of art." When family and guests enter my home, they are in awe. I have been waiting to frame the pieces for over 10 years. When Michaels advertised such a great sale, I decided to get all the pieces framed at one time. It was a deal I could not resist! The Michaels located in Silver Spring, MD is by far the best one yet! I interacted with all the employees (Kelly, Tom and Mat). As the pieces became ready, I picked them up in a span of four days. This a new Michaels so it's a lot nicer inside than some of the older stores. It's also smaller which I think is better because it's a lot easier to navigate, find help, and find what you want. I took my daughter to a "slime" event. She had fun and the ladies running the event were super nice. We picked up few items. It's easy to go bananas in this store especially if you like doing crafts as much as my daughter does. Overall the prices are good. They always have coupons. I couldn't get my app up (there's an issue with connectivity because of the location on the lower level of the mall) but my cashier hooked me up with 15% off my total. read more

It's a small location in a basement with a limited supply. However, all the employees were very helpful and friendly and the store was very neat and organized. If you want to make your own jewelry there's a lot to choose from here. But the sewing section, which was the reason for my visit, hardly had anything in it. They also have a motorized scooter you can borrow to sit in if you're not able to walk the store. There's also a bathroom in the store. read more

OMG I love this place! My kids and I went in there the day after their grand opening, we did not even know they were open yet...when I walked in the smell of the store only made me very happy lol... it had a nice fresh and happy smell to it.This is my second time going to a Michaels and I was amazed at the amount of stuff they sell. My 13 year old daughter was so excited to found so many cool stuff she could waste my money on! However, on several occasions I've shown up to the store at 9am, the time it claims to open, and have had to wait 10, 15, even 30 minutes past 9am for the store to open. This store mangled two pieces of irreplaceable artwork on an expensive custom framing order. The person I spoke to about it tried to be nice and helpful, but they can't really undo what they did. I was informed that it must have been because they had a new person in training who was there that night and tried to fix something about the frame. There was only one person in the framing area and I am horrified that they would leave a trainee alone in a department where they are handling original artwork and important documents, like diplomas. Don't leave anything you can't easily replace with this store! Less serious but still annoying, this store's selection is much more limited than other area stores and a lot of the merchandise is in bad condition. They were completely out of white poster board, so I was directed to large sheets of watercolor paper. I couldn't find a single sheet in a large stack that wasn't damaged. It looked as if the paper had absorbed some brown liquid leaking from the ceiling. If I am going to buy an individual piece of paper for $5-8(or more), I don't want it to look like the wall behind a toilet at a nasty dive bar. I live between this Michael's and the one in Friendship Heights, and the quality of merchandise at this store is a sad reminder of the economic contrast and skill level of the staff between these areas. I otherwise like this shopping complex but if I need to go to Michael's in the future I'll go to Friendship Heights. read more

I live in downtown Silver Spring so this Michaels location is extremely convenient for me. I can usually find what I'm looking for, even though it's smaller than the other Michaels in the area, but then again so are the other retail stores that have recently opened in the mall (i.e. Ross, TJ Maxx). I guess it was designed that way. Anyway I'm extremely grateful that I have a Michaels close enough to walk to as I shop there quite often. There are always coupons online to offset sometimes higher prices. One thing they do need are more cashiers, especially on their busy days! Otherwise it's a decent store (in my opinion). read more

I hate this Michaels, mostly because it is so slow. The lines consistently take forever, even if there are only a few people ahead of you. I commonly just put back my stuff and leave because my patience is completely gone. Earlier this month I had the displeasure of visiting the Michaels Silver Spring location. It hasn't been there long, but yet the customer service is very much trash. I was in this location for at least 35 minutes with no one saying as much as a "Hello, how are you?" to me. I'm very sure unlike most locations they just hired anyone with them having no interest in creative or artistic things. Just people looking for an easy paycheck especially since they aren't in anyway servicing customers. I was in eye contact of 4 employees while I was there. For a quick second I thought my childhood dreams of wanting the power of invisibility had came true. I was wrong the employees just did their best to avoid me or eye contact with me. Anything from leaving out of the aisle I was in or speed walking past me. In conclusion, this will be my first and last time in this location. I love Michaels to death I just refuse to spend my money at this one with such rude people working there. I know they just got there, but it's already time to restaff.
