"I could stay here all day," said my eight-year-old artist. If you love crafts, Merry Pin is your spot. Inside a corner building along popular Georgia Avenue NW, this woman-owned craft store is more than that. It's a community hub and cafe. Walk inside and you'll find well-organized crafts and art supplies throughout. They sell yarn, needles, stickers, stationary, glue, everything. My daughter especially loved the kits to learn how to crochet and knit. Near the register are "mystery grab bags" for $7 that my daughter bought. In the back is a button area where you can fill a small paper bag with buttons for $1.50. The cafe is on the first floor with a few tables and bar seating. They sell pastries like ham and cheese croissants, empanadas, a pickle plate, and more. My daughter loved the bacon empanada and the gourmet rainbow marshmallows. They also sell drinks of all kinds, including mimosas and margaritas. The upstairs is where you'll find one big room with long tables, couches, and lots of craft supplies in their Little Free Craft Library space. My daughter could stay for hours making art! The public restroom is on this floor too. Street parking is very easy to find even on a Saturday. read more

I really wanted to have a better experience at Merry Pin. I love crafts, and supporting a local, woman-owned business? Perfect! I went for the Gilmore Girls fall event and it was just... not good. Tickets were $45. The event sounded great! Themed drinks, trivia, bingo, grab bags, episode viewing, and themed crafts. The concept was fully there, but the execution wasn't. There were a ton of major issues. Trivia? The person was sick, so it didn't happen. Bingo? Every card was the same, so it didn't happen. We didn't learn this until an hour into the event, because that was when the first staff member entered the event space upstairs. The themed craft was making polymer clay magnets. One problem- there were no actual magnets. Other supplies, like parchment paper and a pot holder, were also missing. The craft required an oven, but there was no staff member assisting with anything upstairs. Guests had to set up and preheat the oven themselves. People were taking things in and out of the oven, including other people's items. It just was too complicated without a staff member overseeing it. The episode watching started after an hour. It was an okay set up- a projector, Netflix, and some speakers. But it was just okay. It was difficult to see and hear, and the Netflix would pause for long periods of time because no staff member was present. I hoped for a fun atmosphere where people would react to the episode, but many people were talking or doing other things. The food was a huge issue. Included in the event was themed drinks- these were good and had a good concept. Also included were pop tarts, mallomars, and "grab bags" which contained eggs rolls and mini pancakes. The egg rolls were cold by the time the event started, and one person next to me wanted to know if they had meat. No one was there to answer the question. The food ran out before everyone got to the event. Ordering food was an issue as well. You can tell from the menu that the food was frozen and reheated. It took forever. I arrived half an hour before the event. I got my first food item 35 minutes after ordering and my last item 45 minutes after ordering. One item, hash browns, were still cold in the middle. The quality was what I expected- actually not bad- but it took forever. I think all of the staff were working on the food instead of doing anything else. Other little details were not great. The event room was packed and some people sat on the floor. There was water provided upstairs, but it ran out. You had to bus your own dishes and trash, but the dish bin was full. There weren't lights on all of the tables, so once the episode viewing began it was hard to craft. I really wanted to like Merry Pin, and maybe they were just short staffed for this event. In the end, some of the people I came with wanted a refund. It just felt disorganized and unfinished. I would be cautious about other events here. read more

Merry Pin is not just a fabric store, it's also a cafe, crafting store, and an amazing venue to host events for 25 or fewer people. We decided to do my daughter's birthday party here and it was a mixed bag. On the one hand, the owners and barista are incredibly kind, friendly, and easy to work with. On the other hand, the crafting parties are ... hmmm... how do I put it nicely, overpriced. I think the bulk of the price was for the space rental but the girls elected to make jewelry dishes. They were given the materials to make a clay dish and paints to decorate and left alone. Sigh, well, the girls are teens so I left them too, only to find out that the clay was inconsistent between the kits and dried out and crumbly in several of them and the girls abandoned the plates and trays and started making balls, snakes, and incredibly detailed dolls...in beds In short, they had fun, which makes it worth it, but if you're doing it FOR THR CRAFT, manage your expectations. We also ordered food and I did say I was bringing trays and teacups for an aesthetic and then I didn't, but that's fine. The boxes were jarring though. I assumed they'd put out plates, not cardboard boxes for the food. I ... just. Here's the thing, it was a 14 yos birthday party and they generously accommodated me in short notice so it may be that certain things are upon request but I was a little put off by the aesthetic of the brown paper boxes with all the food. The girls also said while it was good, it was a bit cold, which also makes sense because they order them from another bakery. Overall, the craft gets a 5/10, the food 6/10 - tasty but the presentation wasn't good, and it was not served warm. The venue gets a 9/10 and the customer service was 10/10. I'd say the issued might be mitigated with communication and the food options are fairly unique and everyone was able to try something yummy they'd never had, so that's also a plus!! read more

Merry Pin is so much more than a craft store, café, coffee shop, bar, and community space. It is a warm, welcoming hub where you instantly feel at home. The atmosphere is inviting, and the people are some of the friendliest you'll meet. We hosted our daughter's 3rd birthday here, and it could not have been more perfect. The rental policy is refreshingly reasonable, you pay the rental fee and they run the cash bar. You can't bring drinks which actually eliminates so much of the hassle of set up. We brought in catered food, and the staff went above and beyond to help with every detail, making the entire event stress-free. The space is ideal for families and kids, with plenty of room to spread out. I highly recommend setting up various craft activities to make the most of the creative vibe. Everything came together beautifully, and this celebration will always hold a special place in my heart. Merry Pin is just awesome whether you're here for a coffee, a craft, or a community gathering, you'll leave feeling happier than when you arrived. read more

I visited merry pin for the first time on Sunday 11/16/25! Megan was very kind with letting us order at the kiosk upstairs & bringing our food to us. Although she said when busy guests will get a text and come down. In the craft library upstairs I got to make a polymer clay craft and do some water colors. I got a spiked apple cider and chicken tenders + rosemary waffle fries which were all delicious. I love it I here and I can't wait to be back! read more

We hosted our daughter's birthday party here, a jewelry making bar. It was amazing. They created real works of art., the space was so bright and inviting, and the staff made it really fun. We loved the pizza and the parents enjoyed the cocktails!! Highly recommend!! read more
