I was totally excited to see they opened a Michael's here because this area is relatively barren in terms of art supply stores. It's a pretty big Michael's compared to others in LA. One complaint I can vouch for is that nobody seems to work at the framing area. You figure that everyone who works here would be trained in attending this section. Come to think of it, most Michael's around LA are pretty much the same. Another complaint (which I can't blame the store for entirely) would be that a lot of their metal-tubes of paint are mangled and dented (and I mean REALLY dinged up). They ought to lock up all of their metal-tubed paints for this reason, even their academic/student grade paints. I wish folks would leave their rambunctious kids at home with a sitter if they haven't matured enough to refrain from squeezing all the inventory. All in all, this place is a godsend for those in the area who can't travel out further for small supplies in a hurry. It's bright, relatively clean, and there are just enough clerks to help you out. Side note: Parking in the Azalea can be rather unforgiving on the weekend. You've been warned. read more

Recently went to buy canvases and yarn. The deals were unbelievable. I was expecting to buy one canvas but ended up buying 3 for the price of 1 because of the deal last week. They have so much yarn I spent more time than expected. Sadly, I was not able to find the yarn pattern I needed. Apparently, Michaels carries 17 of the 19 colors made by that brand. The one I needed is 1 of those not carried. Nonetheless, I have bought more supplies without deals and without a doubt I know Michaels sells only high quality, durable products. read more

All the employees suck I asked for help yesterday and they completely forgot about me. They didn't even assist me at all! So I just left and went to Downey instead. They need new employees here ASAP. The only one that I do remember that used to work there but don't see anymore is a girl named Jasmine. Such a small section of Cricut supplies, didn't have anything of what I needed from that section. I ended up driving to the Michael's in Downey. I have been coming to this Michaels for a bit over a year after moving from Hollywood, and today was the first time my family and I were treated great!! The cashier was the person who was very friendly to us made our visit the best. Helped me out with the coupons I had and with the ones I saw online! I went to the michaels in lakewood and they attended me very quickly as swiftly for my curbside pickup. Since the other store didn't have a product I had to order it from this store in south gate, I received my email that my order was ready and I came and called since that's what the instructions said to do, I called over 10 times and they kept hanging up on me, I went over to the door and spoke to the women working and told her if I can just give her my order number to pick it up and she said NO that I had to keep calling, if I can give this review 0 stars I would! I waited 20 minutes!!! for a curbside pickup and I still had to flag the women down and tell her that they weren't answering. Worst customer service i've had ever read more

Went on a Friday, during the day for some Copic markers, so didn't expect a lot of help on the floor. But, there was no one! Looked around and could only see the cashiers working. Markers are under lock and key so I pushed the "help" button. Waited, and waited, and WAITED. After about 10 minutes it was obvious no one was coming. So I went on the hunt for some help. I approached a young lady leaving the register area and asked for help. She agreed and I made my way back to the marker area. Another 10 minutes still no one. So I went back to cashier area and the young lady had her uniform off. So I told another cashier "I still need help with markers. The young lady I approached earlier responded nervously "oh, I forgot". Finally the framing employee was able to help and another 10 minutes waiting to check out I was out. Worst customer service experience at any Michael's store. Needless to say I'll never visit this location again! read more

I will never order from this michaels again. I ordered a few items that weren't available at the Lakewood location and were only available at this location. I opted to curbside pick up. So I placed an order on Thursday. I never received any emails regarding my order so Friday I call the store just to make sure that the order did indeed go through. First, I was on hold for what felt like forever.. which was not a big deal because I know I wasn't the only one waiting for an order. Second, a lady finally picks up... I wish I would've gotten her name. She's asking me for my order number, as I'm reading it she puts me on hold. No warning at all. I believe the same girl that was talking to me was the one running the orders outside. Eventually she comes back on the line and asks if she can help me. I tell her my order number and she proceeded to tell me that my order wasn't ready but they would have it ready by 6. That was at about 3:30p. At around 5:45ish I start to call the store just to see if I can pick up the order. Every single time I called, someone picked up the phone and hung up. At 6, the time they closed, no one picked up the phone at all. I just felt like my experience wasn't that good. I love michaels and shop there fairly often. I won't let this one experience ruin my love for Michaels... however, I certainly will not go to this location again. read more

This Michaels is pretty clean nothing to rave about the shelves never look bare, but it seems as if the selection to other Michaels, stores in the area is a little scarce. other than that i have no problem with this Michaels, they usually have enough cashiers to get you in and out even if the line is long. read more

So I ordered for online curbside pickup and it's not hard to go down the isles and pickup paint, canvases, and paint brushes. So I called to know if my order was ready. Just to let you know I ordered it an hour ago. I get there and the girl with yellow hair told me it won't be ready within 30 minutes to an hour and it frustrates me because we are better off going inside picking out our items. Andre's and most cashiers at this Michaels in South Gate are rude and incompetent. Not to mention the all have a look on their face like they are two steps away from slashing their wrists due to hating where they work. Would not allow me to use a 60% coupon on a completely different and separate transaction, stating I already used it once, with the reasoning that they follow rules and "programs", what program he was referring to I couldn't say. I came today with my husband we are tired from work and then we come here to buy gifts. My husband went to ask how much was the item because they were all in the section of $10 and then the girl said they are $10. So when we go to pay we have to wait a line because it so crazy and then the cashier says they are $12.95 and we are like no the girl said they were $10 what do they do instead of one them going to go check the item they are there doing nothing waiting for the girl that told us the price to come to the front. Meanwhile the cashier tells us to wait and she gets another customer and she has a lot of stuff. I already wait it and now I have to wait again there were 4 people in front 2 were not doing anything. I was here a few days ago. The cashier that helped me was friendly. Selection is very limited compared to other stores. I'm a scrapbooker, project life junkie. They had a very small selection of paper prints and sizes, very few stamps, die cuts and stickers. The worst thing about this store and why I would drive further out to another store to avoid this one... I was shopping and came across a couple of creepy men just wandering the store, at one point I had one man just passing by me back and forth, he just kept staring. Made me feel very uncomfortable. I kept my son in the shopping cart near and held onto my bag. It was all just so creepy. As I shopped around I noticed another man just staring at a girl from behind. I work with adults with disabilities and our job is to take them out to the community. Today, we went inside this Michaels to look for our project items for a project we were going to make. We headed to the restroom first because we had to go. They were locked, so we looked for an employee to unlock the door. While we were looking, we saw a gentleman enter the employee's break room. One of my clients asked him if he was able to open the door to the restroom. Keep in mind, these individuals don't know about "breaks" "clocks ins" & "off the clock". If they see an employee, they automatically just ask. Anyway, this gentleman, (didn't get the name, but who had characteristics of colored eyes and long hair) rudely said "No! Ask someone that's clocked in", and just closed the employee break room. Thankfully, a young woman passed by who also seemed to be off the clock, but was kind enough to still open the door. We didn't end up purchasing anything because of the poor bizarre costumer service. It's so sad to see employees having a bad attitude. We will no longer enter this store. We only went because we were in the area, but we will just stick to our regular Downey Michaels. read more

Worst experience with the closing manager (monica) today on may 17 she was very rude and over charged me for a basket that said 50% off all basket and the worst thing was i didn't even know she was the manager so when i wanted to complain i tried to find someone else and when i did she was like oh she is on the register and yup it was her how was I going to complain about the so called manager if she was the one in charge so I had left and I need it her name so when I called I was still watching her thru the window as she would roll her eyes I asked for her name and said "I don't have to give you my name" I was like wth yes you do your the manager and I need to complain about you point is she refused to give me her name to complain for being rude and for over charging and for laugh with an employee i ask what the manager name was who also refused to give me and my wife the name this has been the worst experience I have ever had at this Michael I will contact a higher manager or take it to corporate for I wasn't the only one she was rude too she wasn't even smiling to any of the customers and she calls herself the manager wow read more

Come to this store if you don't mind waiting over 20 mins in line. On a busy evening during a holiday season, only one register was open. It wasn't until I asked for a second cashier to be called, that they opened a new register. Somehow the 20-30 people in line wasn't obvious enough for them to get help on their own. I will not be returning to this store. If you go to a higher income neighborhood, the wait is never that long. I will not be shopping at Michaels any longer. read more

Horrible service!! First, they were out of most the items I was looking for. Second, the cashier refused to give me coupon discount even after seeing my app was not loading coupon regardless of the fact that there was a line behind me. I've been to various Michaels and when my app struggles to load my coupon, the cashier gladly offers to use the coupon they have available to them. So, I walked out, and as soon as I did my coupon loaded. Now off to Downey location which is fully stocked and customer service come first. This will be the first and last time, I stop at this location on my way home. I'd rather drive a bit off my way home to a place that actually has better customer service. read more
