I was a JoAnn's fan but since it has closed I thought that I would give it a try! I was definitely motivated when I went to Walmart and tried to buy yarn with a crocheting friend. Yeah we unwind the day literally with crocheting projects. This place was literally a candy store for people needing yarn and material for sewing. I bought a pretty sparkling blue and a spring time color. I am uncertain what I may make but I am excited. Probably a pretty throw! Customer service has changed. There are three self checkouts. Two of them take cards but only one take cash. Then there is two regular cashier stands. My friend and I realize that we need to come here for crocheting/knitting and sewing projects. Plus side is there is a sewing machine shop nearby too. In the meantime I will enjoy my goodies. read more

I couldn't believe the amount of items that were on sale. Wow! It is end of January and looks like they are trying to get rid of inventory. I was disappointed however about their drawing pen selection. Almost everything was gone which was sad for me because they had only 2 items stocked in an area that shows abut 30 items! Bare bones! But they had other things like mod podge, valentine items already, and more. With all the coupons as members, great value! I bought more paper and pens, and with the discount as a member, the cost was worth it bs buying online. And the people are super friendly. Very easy and willing to help. read more

According to two different employees, there are literally six shopping carts here. I came in w my two young kids, both who need to be contained while shopping or they run in different directions. I walked around the store with both boys in my arms, frantically looking for a cart. They were all in use and both boys were crying. I then saw an employee (Toby) who had one picture frame in her cart and yelled over my screaming kids if there was any way I could have her cart. She was apologetic about needing to fill a big order and having to use it. I left without purchasing anything. If this store expects anyone with young kids to shop there, they need to purchase more than a single digit amount of shopping carts. read more

The big old lady with white short hair, is rude every single time I shop here. There is always an issue for a SIMPLE check out. Today she refused to give me military discount because I only have my physical ID on me and that it isn't registered online. That's bullshit and she knows it because whenever I'm checked out by anyone else working they're a pleasure. I'm an easy customer, I'm not sure why she goes out of her way every time to ruin my experience. Me and everyone that I know that shops at this location are no longer going to because of this woman. Got there 2 minutes before closing - it's true. I needed one thing. The lady at the door told me they were closed. I told her I needed one quick thing and she could even go grab it for me and I would meet her at the register if they didn't want me wandering around. She waited a minute, looked at her watch, waited until 7, and said - see, we're closed. You had the chance to be kind and helpful and you blew it. Congratulations. You lost a customer for life. I have been going to Michael's for years. But out of a given year I go about once or twice. I'm definitely not what you call a regular customer but more of an annual one. The reason why I go to Michael's is to stock up on Halloween decor on my annual Halloween shopping spree the third week of September every year. What I love about Michael's is their Lemax Halloween houses that they have up every year. They always make a really fun display and I usually find at least one house that I fall madly in love with. It has become an annual tradition to get one house each year to my own growing Lemax Halloween village. The Lemax brand always has new houses and concepts each year so I have to make a decision as to what I like best. It's not out of the realm of possibility that a second runner up is ruled out forever but I would probably need to go to Ebay or Amazon and do some real hunting for ones from the previous years. I have gotten my Halloween shopping spree down to a fine art. Michael's is one of the first stores in my area to put up Halloween decor. This is roughly around mid-summer. By the time the third week of September rolls around the Lemax Halloween houses are on clearance which is usually around 40% off. This is an excellent deal because the houses at full price can be pretty spendy. As long as Michael's continues with these Halloween houses each year I will continue the tradition of adding one house to my ever growing town of ghosts and goblins. read more

Like many other Yelpers, I found the staff here to be unhelpful and unfriendly. I came in looking for picture hanging supplies and left with a few things that were a buck or less each that I needed and a desire to shop anywhere else. The aisles are cramped and packed with lots of baskets of cheap junk. I'm not talking useful crafting supplies, I'm talking regular dollar-store merchandise. The cashiers were too busy talking to each other about plans for later to talk to the customers. Each cashier had a line of three to four people and they moved at a glacial pace as they discussed plans among themselves. I don't necessarily want a chat-up but something more than "That's 5.75" would be nice - especially if it's going to take you that long to ring it. The employee in the framing area seems to hate working in the framing area. I hear that customers can be very cranky about framing in general but it's not my fault that I wanted to find supplies to hang a picture and you hate your job, okay? There's no need to point in a general direction and tersely shout "It's all over there." While I was looking at the picture hanging supplies (near the bathroom and employee area, apparently?,) a woman with a store apron and a stinky cinnamon wreath (what *is* it with those things? They stink. The store smells like them year-round.) rammed her cart right into me and my three year old. She then said "Coming through." Yeah, I'd noticed. How about an excuse me? Or a sorry? You know what? Don't bother - I'll just shop somewhere else. Try Fabio's Framing in Federal Way or ArtCo on Sixth. If you need flowers or other stuff, JoAnn or Hancock Fabrics would be a better option than this place. read more

They are in the middle of renovating, but it's looking better already! In the past I've been disappointed by the messy feel of the store and lack of effort on the part of staff, but today everyone was helpful and I found what I was looking for and it was all on sale! Plenty of parking and near the mall, so it's nice to duck in on my way to other shopping. They have a great selection of art supplies, flowers, crafting needs, florals, baskets, party supplies, and frames. Now their frames are awesome and they usually have a sale on their frames and framing services. They also supply ample coupons if you're from the area. I am a little disappointed in the price compared to the quality of the some of the items. I don't mind paying a higher price if the items are of a higher quality. I have shopped this store for years and usually fairly happy with my experience. But my past few visits have frustrated me to the point I won't even bother anymore. I went in for just a few things....some new gel pens I wanted to try out and a few accessories for my Cricut machine. As I looked around, it seems like literally everything in this store requires an employee to come and unlock the merchandise. There seemed to be only 1 or 2 people working in the entire store. So when you FINALLY find someone to get your merchandise unlocked, and head to another section, lo & behold, that $10 item you wanted is ALSO locked up! I should mention it was mostly the brand name stuff locked-up....Sakura, Cricut, etc. with the cheaper Michael's brand knockoffs largely unlocked right next to it. Done with this location! read more

My kids love to go here. They have so much stuff to keep them busy at home. We go through of their aisle after aisle of craft stuff for kids. I don't see much staff, but I haven't asked to many questions of them. I know they have a framing area, but have not used it. I was looking for Caron's Yarn Cakes and found the shelves half empty with not much of a color choice. One of the employees walked by and told me that they have two boxes of that yarn, ready to be brought out. She offered to get the yarn so I could see all the colors that were shipped. *Wow! Are there any friendly staff at this place? I literally have been yelled at by not one but two of the women working here? What happened to customer service. Every time I come here and check out there are always talking to some one for like 15 mins at the register. Meanwhile the checkout line backs up like crazy. Also they cant even see the line because they have a big like shelf unit blocking there view. They have good princes and are convenient when i am in a pinch and need art stuff. Had to come here on a work errand for a box of colored pencils. Simple thing, shouldn't take long, shouldn't be difficult. Found the box I needed, walked to the front and got in line. After standing there for thirty seconds, the lady being rung up says, "oh, this isn't a line, I'm doing a special pick up." So I look at the guy ringing her up, the lady once more and walk to the other line, shaking my head. The lady that was behind me in the original line, just moved forward. Okay, maybe she has a special pick up as well. So after standing in my new line for a minute, I love back to the original line, there are two new ladies in that line and the lady behind me in that line, is now paying for an item. Hmmmmmm, lots of special pick ups today I guess. The second lady in that line is now having items from a basket, scanned in. I finally move forward in my new, much slower line and am second in line. This lady has coupons, watching every scan, oooops, I thought that was 50% off? Wait a second, isn't that $12.99, it said $13.99. I look back to my original line and that lady is now paying and the third lady is handing items to the guys from her cart. Are you kidding me? The guy at the original register never said a word to me. This is completely ridiculous. If it wasn't a work errand and I wasn't happy to be spending five minutes away from the office, I would have asked for a manager, but from the sounds of the other reviews, that probably wouldn't have worked either. Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere from your craft needs. Awful experience using their custom framing services. A gentleman working in that part of the store had the worst customer service. He tore open our brand new custom mats out of the cardboard packaging right in front of us, almost denting or even ripping them. For $30+ per mat it was shocking to observe this inconsiderate action. Beyond that the custom framing people here called to have us come pick up our items and once we arrived in the store tried to tell my husband no one had called him, and that the items were not ready to be picked up; they were ready, and my husband had to wait for this unprofessional and unhelpful salesperson in the framing area to figure it out. Avoid using their custom framing services unless you like wasting time and energy dealing with this type of customer service. read more

The store is NICE since the renovations, very good and full of items to get your craft on. Offers the typical classes for customers. To be honest, only a handful of people mean well there and the rest are rancid in personality. Toxicity of their personalities travels like some sort of crafting grandma gang. Do you like being followed? I assure you that if the store manager sees you, she will stalk you til the end of time. She's the worst and if you work for her, good luck. The Best at doing some things right for a big name store like Michaels but this particular location made me really wonder how often they are updated layout wise. A ton of the arts and crafts just not for everyone in particular if you're trying to get what you want on a particular day, they might be out of stock. The best part about their everyday deals doesn't compare to the dollar store of course, they carry your run of the mill or other craft store brands nothing too exclusive or in house of course. Not disappointing if you're going to be doing anything which might involves a blob of paint or a frame that's shaped like a fun house design. Best part about my trip was the metallic silver sharpie i found around the register, took me awhile but the staff was friendly enough to offer help even though it wasn't necessary. There's a lot to love about Michaels as far as popular stores in the contest go but hopefully they upgrade their layouts here soon, the smaller crafty stores in the area make more use of the vibes on a probable less budget. read more

Absolute worst possible service and from the store manager. Over the last year have attempted to purchase items only to have them come up "item not found" on the register. Most involved kid's craft items with beads and apparently recalled due to safety over lead concerns, however they were missed on the shelves. Latest incident involved a puzzle, and the store manager was walking by when the cashier asked him how to wring it up as it came up "item not found" and he very rudely stated "can't sell it then" with no I'm sorry or explanation. He did not even have the courtesy to look up the proper sku. To make matters worse, I am on crutches and unable to push a cart or carry a basket, so just shopping there was a hardship. As a veteran of retail management and customer service, I am appalled. I called the customer service number and was told the regional manager would call me in 72 hours, well that didn't happen, so apparently the bad attitude and lack of customer service is acceptable. I would say go to Artco, better prices and service! Follow up- never heard from the regional manager as the customer service dept said. Guess Michael's doesn't give a damm about customers. read more

I wish I didn't have to leave a star for this location. I love Michaels and since a friend of mine and I were going to Tacoma (about 30 minutes from our home) to visit another place we thought we would check out the Michaels. My husband for Xmas bought me a photo album. I am a scrapbooker so unfortunately the photo album doesn't work with what I enjoy doing. When my friend and I entered the store there was only one person at the front of the store doing nothing - didn't even acknowledge us. I walked up to the customer service station and she came over. I explained to her the situation that my husband and purchased it for me as a gift for xmas and no longer had the receipt. She told me to hold on a moment and then walked away. A few moments later another person came up and did not look friendly at all. I explained the situation over to her. Told her that all I wanted to do was exchange it for the exact same thing but a scrapbooking album instead of a photo album. She told me that she could do the exchange but would have to charge me and additional 20% on top of the exchange. WHY? It is an EVEN exchange. I thought about it for a moment and decided that to pay more for something that was A. a gift and B. an even exchange was not worth it. I then asked if I could take it with me in the store or if I had to take it out to my car. She told me that I could take it with me then hesitated and said I could leave it right there on the counter. I looked at her then the counter and told her that I did not want to leave it on the counter because someone could walk up and take it. She told me that she would put it behind the counter and keep an eye on it. I reluctantly handed it over and went to do my shopping. I REGRET buying anything from the store but didn't want to have a completely wasted trip. When I went up to the register to buy my friend got called into her line and I said loud enough for customer service lady to hear for my friend to grab my book. I then looked and saw that she had left my book EXACTLY where I had not wanted it to be. Out in the open for ANYONE to grab. I got through the line first and waited for my friend and once the transaction was done my friend had to remind her for my book. We left this store and headed home. On the way home I called my local Michaels and explained to them the situation and she said it wouldn't be a problem. I exchanged my book without any issues and now have one I could use for scrapbooking. I recommend to ANYONE AND EVERYONE DO NOT I repeated DO NOT shop at the Tacoma Michaels if you can avoid it. They have poor customer service and heaven forbid you need to exchange something they will try and charge you more when they are going to just put it back on the shelf - talk about ripping off the customer and putting money into their pockets!! If you want good customer service, people with a positive and helpful attitude and friendliness do not shop here, shop Federal Way or Tukwila. I go to those ones ALL THE TIME and they have great friendly customer service. read more

I am never coming back into this store. I went into this store yesterday, as I often do, to pick up some craft supplies for my upcoming wedding. When I paid for my merchandise with my debit card the machine froze for about three minutes. Eventually the machine restarted. I was told to re swipe my card, I swiped a different card thinking maybe it was an issue on my end and the transaction went through. I later went home, checked my bank account and low and behold, both accounts had been charged over $100 each. I called the store, spoke to two managers and was told to come in the next day to get my refund. I thanked them and hung up. Today I went into the store for my refund. The cashier called a manager and the manager told me that even though I had my receipt and both bank account statements she did not "feel comfortable refunding the money" obviously their till was over by $100. This woman is calling me a liar and I will not be back into this store EVER. I will be calling their corporate office and I will get my money back. read more
