This store is great for all kinds of craft supplies. Specifically, they have a big selection of scrapbooking materials, which I love. My only problem is that the employees are not very helpful and are really slow at check out. I've been to many Micaels throughout my life and this is probably my least favorite by far. They are always understaffed, causing wait times to be longer than usual when checking out. It always looks like items aren't restocked or they seem to be lacking in variety of items I'm used to seeing at other locations. Although most of the employees I've encountered are super friendly and willing to assist, I wish they would keep the shelves stocked. read more

I took a print that was somewhat dull from age, and discussed with them how to protect it and perhaps brighten the print to show less age. The framing result was amazing, for I almost did not recognize the print I brought in. The framing and matting were perfect for the print and the colors within the print appeared to be bright and crisp. I could not be more pleased with the customer service or the pricing. read more

Came here to look for replacement beads for a chandelier. The staff very loudly accused us of stealing while we were asking about a price check. Who asks for a price check if theyre stealing! Wouldnt we want no staff around us instead of asking for help?? Then 4 horribly groomed overweight middle-aged women started following us around cuz thats not noticable. I was angry but tolerating it til they called for security on the loud speaker. You just lost 2 customers and whats sad is I've shopped here hundreds of times and spent a lot of money. For the most part, I love this store for almost every craft need that exists. BUT...the employees that they hire are the absolute worst! Never in my life have I seen slower checkers. Every single time I've been there it's the same thing; it's like they're on heavy meds AND with always with huge line of customers waiting! It's so bad, that I cringe whenever I think of shopping there. It's a shame because it's really the only place around that carries certain items, especially during the holidays. I really like shopping at Michael's. That's why I'm giving 4 stars. What I don't like about the store, as a chain, is their coupon policy. Their prices are not that great if they're not having a sale or without your coupons. Unlike Target, if you get home & realize that you missed that awesome coupon in your inbox, they won't honor it after your purchase. At Target, I think you have like 3 days after your purchase to come in with unredeemed coupons you may have forgotten or discovered. Like yesterday, I realized that I missed a 20% off your entire purchase coupons. And the cashiers don't really ask you at checkout or hook you up. So- definitely do your coupon research before you go! My complaint about the Ventura location is that there's never enough cashiers. There is always a line to check out. And you have to get a bathroom code from the people in frames (which isn't always easy) & if your kid 'has to go right now' & is doing the pee pee dance, forget it. read more

I have been to Michael's all over the country, and this one is the worst I have seen. The selection is regularly hit or miss and leans towards miss. There are items that are never restocked - typically anything that might fall under the "art" portion of "arts and crafts." Then there is the line situation to consider. Great selection, stuff you can't find anywhere else however.... The line is always problematic. Usually 1 checker with 10 people in line. If I could humbly remind the checkers that it should be the customers that are grumpy from waiting in line. I found my checker extremely grumpy and irritated that I was trying to use my "text" message coupon. Before I was able to gather up my bags she had already called up the next customer. Management needs to take note of the lines. There have been several times that I have had to put my stuff down and leave not having enough time to wait in the line. That is super frustrating when it takes a lot of energy and time to find what your looking for in this store. I used to go to Michaels once a week, but now I try and avoid it if at all possible. The staff was so rude Sunday, and didn't know what they were doing. They kept adding and subtracting odd amounts in the cash register to try and come up with the right price. After dealing with this for 5 minutes, I left with still being charged wrong. Months ago I had a horrible experience with the customer service here...since then, it appears as maybe they had a change in the store manager because today Destiny and Elder (sp?) helped out out on some frames that we were looking to purchase for some one of a kind pieces that are very important. Destiny and Elder really came through, so much that I had to buy a star lollipop to give to destiny because she truly was a super star today! My review is pretty much in-line with all the others...This store has a pretty good selection (like most Michaels do) but the organization of the store is confusing and customer service is lacking. What really bothers me is no matter what day of the week or time I go, it seems like there is always an EXTREMELY long line at the check-out. I'm not really so sure of an alternative to this craft store unfortunately but just be warned that when you go here, make sure you have plenty of time to wander around looking for things and to wait in a hellishly long line. read more

I had an incredible experience here. While they are always very friendly here, I had amazing service last week. I was buying a couple of items and forgot to print out my 30% off coupon from the email. Another zero here today. Apparently the cashier here believes there is such thing as an age minimum requirement to make a cash purchase using a coupon. Seriously? What is wrong with your staff here? If he walked up and asked to buy candy with $5 you would take his money. So what is the issue if he wants to purchase batteries for his toy? He's mature enough to have remembered to ask me for them. I was in their store on Sunday March 15th and ONLY walked in to take a look around because I was on my way to pick up food at Sprouts and was baffled by them being opened and the many people inside during this critical moment with the COVID-19 virus. There were kids everywhere and elderly folks. The employees had no sanitizing supplies at hand! One woman was holding her baby and asked an employee for a wipe or hand sanitizer as she needed it at the moment and the employee said they didn't have any. Unbelievable!!!! Shouldn't they be closed????? This is a non essential store and I didn't see their employee's with at least gloves on nor spray cleaners to sanitize or even wipes to wipe things down, they don't even have hand sanitizers at their registers. This is scary because employees and customers are at risk which puts everyone else at risk! Please stay home! Very disappointed with Michael's practices, especially with all that we are going through with this virus. read more

I had a terrible experience attempting to return an item today. I had the receipt for the item and an unopened product. My wife purchased the product on her credit card, and I was told that they wouldn't return it w/o my wife's card. I was returning it for her while she was at work. No problem, I said I'll take store credit. I was told they would give me credit for the sale price, not what my wife paid for it. The difference between the sale price and what we paid was $12! So, in effect, it would cost me $12 to return a product for which I had a receipt because I didn't have my wife's card. I asked to see the manager on duty. She reiterated the return policy, but she said she would check w/the store manager. After several minutes, and w/the check out line backing up, the manager on duty returned and said they would return the merchandise if my wife bought it on a debit card that had both our names on it. Hadn't she been paying attention? I left after telling her how displeased I was w/the return process & the experienced. I told her I would "yelp" about it. She honestly didn't know what Yelp was. That doesn't surprise me for a company so firmly stuck in the 20th Century. Because of Michael's archaic return policy, I was inconvenienced, my wife will be inconvenienced and seven people waiting in line were inconvenienced. Is this what Michael's considers customer service? It certainly doesn't seem like it to me. read more

I have never had anything but great service at the Ventura Michaels. Until this past week. I always am in the store with my Boxer who is VERY well behaved, buying yarn because I knit for the homeless and donate at the holiday. ( IF YOUR INTERESTED GET AT ME at mary@superiorfireinc.com ). This store is located right next to Pet smart so there are always dogs in the store. This particular day I was approached by the NEW store manager in the middle of the isle and in front of everyone, she asked quite pointedly "is your dog a guide dog? now mind you if that were the case would she not be wearing a uniform jacket??? I quietly stated that she was not. She then proceeded to let me know quite loudly that this time and only this time would my dog be allowed in the store again. I was so embarrassed! I have never had an issue with bringing her in the store. If there is a no dogs sign I most defiantly would not have taken her in! I just am very disappointing in how the whole matter was approached. I have been in customer service for over 20 years and I have never approached a client in the middle of the store and spoke loudly! She should be ashamed of herself. read more

Ive heard a manager named Shawn talk to employees like if they were some type of peasants! Coming from a retail job myself, these kinds of people makes the employees wanna quit. I've never been to this location before and I NEVER will again! I had just finished purchasing some items that this lovely young brunette checked me out with (she was sweet as we discussed her pretty ombré acrylic nail ideas). We left the store and drove not even a mile when I realized I was missing my key out of my pocket! We quickly turned around and raced back since they had been about to close when we were checking out. I literally ran over to the doors only to have a women with gray and white long hair look up at me shake her head and continue on with her work. So I knock trying to inform her I just left something behind during a purchase she finally came towards the window and made me scream threw it my situation, she then shrugs her shoulders at me telling me there closed. (Well duhh) But I needed my key! So I yet again yelling through glass with panic in my voice say I really just need to run through the isles for a second. She tells me that I can't and turns FINALLY to at least look for me and as I watch her walk not even halfway up the part to the Isles I've been motioning and barley look and I guess asked co worker if she had found anything comes back and tells me they didn't find it (after I literally observed her not even really check) tells me I have to come back tomorrow and that she can't help me with a grimace on her face. Now I'm locked out of my own house thanks to a worker with a poor attitude and absolutely no manners. read more

Wow! I was nervous about going to the Ventura store vs. the Santa Barbara store where I live, so I called ahead to see if thy had what I needed, as I had to go to Ventura today.. The 2 people on the phone went to check the availability of what I needed, and told me what aisle to go to when I got there. how wonderful was that! When I decided to look for something else, a store employee walked me to the place I needed to go, and was so helpful.. said he was new to the store, but he sure knew his way around... The checkout line was getting long, and they opened 2 more registers, and the checkout lady was super.. No fair just posting complaints about this store. It rocks! read more

I have rarely been treated so rudely by someone calling them self a manager. The male I spoke w/ on the phone had no people skills . Instead of taking my name & getting back to me I was more or less told to get to the point , I have a line & then hung up on ! I received a artist desk for Xmas . The scrapbook section is still lacking so far as paper goes, but they've been bringing in other neat little things for mixed media. The floral section looks to have improved as well and is organized much better than it was there for a while; the quality of the florals is much nicer as well, offering a better variety of colors and sizes without looking too plastic. As always, the staff is great and very helpful, even when the check-out line suddenly balloons from two to twelve people! (Seriously, why does everyone seem to check out at one time?) I must be at this store at least twice every week! Given the choice between Joann's, Hobby Lobby, and either Michael's in Ventura or Camarillo, my top pick is usually this Michael's location even though it's furthest from where I live. read more

The coupon says 20% off, including sale items. At check out the cashier said clearance items are not "sale items", they are clearance items and if I read the small print it will tell me that. I would like to live in a world without the small print....it's just an excuse. So, to Michaels, I suggest keep your offers and promotions clean, crisp, and without small type or the need to have the cashier explain that I need to read the small print (which is buried in the middle of text that is not readable on a smart phone read more

This store is not only out of stock most of the time, they rarely can ever tell when they'll be getting it in. Twice now I have waited several MONTHS for things to be restocked. My most recent bad experience at this store (as I've had many) involved managers and employees ignoring requests to be helped and several aisles being blocked by shopping carts full of merchandise waiting to be restocked. I realize that restocking is part of the business, but any store that uses EVERY single cart for their own purposes while customers have nothing to put their products in, is ridiculous. This store continues to fall further and further in customer service every time I go in. Save your time and money and shop online. Amazon has almost everything you can find here at reasonable prices without the hassle. read more
