Vanessa was kind enough to help me pick out a hat pattern online and she suggested yarns in the store that would be easier for my first hat. One of the kind ladies working on their projects not only helped me start my project, but she put in a lifeline (learned something new). I sat and chatted with the group as I worked on my project. I choose this store even though it is further away from my home because it is open W-F until 7 pm so I can go over after work for help. They are open on the weekend. And lastly, as I expected there is a community of knitters willing to help. I'm overjoyed to have found a place to learn and challenge myself after working solo for so long. Lastly, the yarns in the shop are beautiful and I found the prices in line for the quality. I'm willing to pay a bit more for quality and for support. Extremely disappointed. I spent around $70 for 3 skeins of yarn that is literally ripping apart…read morewhile being wound. The plies separate, the strand snaps with minimal tension, and the yarn is clearly structurally compromised. At this price point, I expect yarn that can withstand basic handling. This skein behaves like old, brittle, or under-plied stock, and is completely unusable for any durable project. I've worked with many yarns (including much cheaper ones) and have never experienced breakage like this during normal winding. If this is how the store curates and stores their inventory, especially given the premium pricing. I won't be purchasing yarn here again unless quality control improve. The women here working are nice enough, but quality makes me not wanna come back.
