My girlfriend and I who are frequent shoppers received a present from her dad of some Golden acrylic paints, unfortunately, these paints were the wrong type because we use oil paints so we decided to return them and pick out the right type of paints we use. We did not have a receipt so we only got back about half of what they were worth which is fine we understood that it would go for the lowest price it was sold for but we noticed on a couple of the more expensive ones there was a manager override nd the price drop was Ludacris. We did not complain but we did notice an attitude towards us like we did something wrong. As we went to look for paints they followed us. We ignored nd went about debating on colors grabbed about 3 of them then went looking for a pallet knife. That's when Regina, one of the employees approached us in front of another customer and offered us a hand held basket we said no thanks we got it. She insisted nd when we politely said we could handle them she said" we need you to put your paints in a basket " as she put the basket on the floor, with a customer in between us, then she slid the basket across the floor to us and repeated u need to put them in a basket. I never heard of a policy saying we are not allowed to carry a couple paints. At this point she walked away and with a stunned look we got re assured by the other customer that she never heard of having to use a basket nd was shocked at Regina's behavior. We left the basket there nd went back to look for a paint pallet then another employee came up and more politely asked if we needed a basket cuz there's one laying on the floor on the isle we just came from. At this point we figured they were just messing with us for some reason. We are regulars at hobby lobby and Michaels and love shopping there and have never had an experience anything like this or remotely close to as hurtful as this. The manager eider from the start made us feel interrogated, unwelcomed, scammed, and targeted for no reason other than a return well within the stores policy. We will not be going back nd hope the other stores we visit won't follow the same hurtful and damaging behavior. My girlfriend cried and was emotionally distraught in the car for how they treated us and I pray none of you go through the same. Please learn from this and treat customers as customers. I was shopping for candles and I thought they were on sale so I asked and the cashier rudely said "no" so as I set the ones that I wanted down, she asked me what I was "doing" and was "mixing up the candles she had already set down". I placed an online order at Joann's on Rose Avenue in Oxnard and they cancelled my order a week after I placed it. I was super bummed but I found the exact same item at Michael's in Ventura. The manager/supervisor at the front helped me find my item locked in one of the cages. She was super professional and I appreciated the help and attention she gave me. She found the item and immediately brought me to an empty register because her codes were needed for the price match. I truly appreciated the fact that she rang me up so I didn't have to re-explain my situation to another associate. Not only did she match Joann's price, she took an additional 10% off as per Michael's policy. This store is great!!! I wish I asked her for her name so I can thank her here. I like this store, because they have a good deal on frames, especially when they have a coupon, but they need much better training with their customer service, especially online ordering. I placed an order online then had a question and I called the store, but the person answering obviously had no training and had to go ask someone and put me hold for 10 minutes. I thought I would try the process again and ordered some frames online, when I called to ask whether someone else could pick up the order besides myself, the girl had no clue, proceeded to put me on hold (a well-trained customer service person asks "do you mind if I put you on hold". I was hold for 20 minutes before I gave up and hung up. I'm updating my original review to one star. I was asked by Michaels to review my purchase. I had the same issue with customer service when picking up items ordered online and posted the following review: "Although I am happy with the product based on price, the online ordering process is not very streamlined. Took 2 people in the store to find the frames, even though I received an email telling me that the order was ready to pick up. Also customer service people in the store are not trained in the online ordering process." My review was rejected by Michales because it didn't meet their guidelines. Omg! I'm use to the customer service of the Camarillo store. The customer service here is non-existent. I can't believe one shopping trip here could be such a nightmare! I asked for help I was told it's some where over there (over there is the other side of the store). Really?! I asked a worker with a hand held scanner if she can price check an item. I'm told to go to a different part of the store. Then I'm in line and the woman helping me is on the phone helping a customer. Which would not be a problem if she didn't over charge me. Seriously! She was more concerned with the customer on the phone she didn't realize the mistake. I tried to tell her she turned her back on me for the phone customer. My total was $16 something then I go to pay and its $34 wtf. The worse part is 4 customer after me left before me. Not to mention my 3 year old was starting to have a melt down. Btw three managers were standing around doing NOTHING! They should help out by answering the phones or take a register. This place is a circus with a bunch of clowns running the place! I can't believe this place gets to stay opened when the Camarillo store is closing (I was told this by two employees at the camarillo location!) Good job corporate closing the only store with real customer service. Smh. Corporate policy says they can price match to Amazon (no 3rd party sellers). They are unaware of their own policies, and the manager Lupe (or assistant manager idgaf) was trying to tell me no. So instead of calling corporate-- like I had to do TWICE today to check for me-- he told me use the 40% off coupon instead. No. The price match is far better of a "discount" (it's a match not a discount) I made him talk to customer service and he clearly didn't enjoy that SO! Michael's isn't just for your everyday ordinary crafter, there's is something for even the semi craft person who likes the following: party supplies, decor, frames, scrap-booking, cake decorating, and more. I'm the least craft orientated person I know, just ask my junior high sewing teacher, I think I'm the only person known to man, to have to cheat on a sewing class to pass. I digress, being that I love to entertain, Michael's never disappoints me when I'm looking for cake decorating or party supplies. The store is well stocked and always busy, sometimes it can be difficult to locate a sales person being that it's so busy, but once you have located one they are more than willing to help you with whatever questions or ideas you might have. So for those that avoid Michael's because they think it's just a craft store, stop in and check it out, you might find yourself at the check out before the visit is over. read more

It's a really great store well laid out and fun to shop there, but I got to say the last two times I was there there was only one checker and she was working her head off. She's such a good employee she just kept working super fast. The line wasn't even that long but you could tell she wanted to stay on top of it. There doesn't seem to be anyone else in the store. For craft supplies, Michaels earns 3 stars from me. They have many different kinds of art and crafts but within a specific category such as soapmaking, the choices are very limited. But because of my latest experience, I'm taking away 2 stars. Why? Because the two guys in framing dept. could not take 5 seconds to put the code in the lock on the women's restroom door so I could get in. And it was an emergency. When I asked for it, one of them waved me off, saying the lady already in there will open the door when she comes out. How humiliating! Michaels gets a FAIL in my book! Hey Michael, come up with a better system for the public to access the restroom!!! And while you're at it, teach your male employees in framing to show respect and decorum to all ladies (someone put in the code for some females but not for others.) That said, I'm giving back one star for the empathetic cashier who asked about my shopping experience. When I told her what happened, she said that was unacceptable and would mention it to the guys in framing and to the manager. She was kind and respectful. Two stars. One, because I found a good deal on an item I was looking for. Two, because I got some other stuff, too, and escaped without buying a 6-pack of wooden mini-birdhouses, or whatever I usually buy and stuff in a cabinet. But Jesus H. Christ on a cheezy cracker, what the hell is it with the employees here? I wandered around the store for probably 20 minutes looking for two items, before I approached the ONLY employee on the floor, who was sorting artificial flowers. i said, "Hi, excuse me, do you happen to know where to find X?" She was counting out loud and shook her head no, kept counting out loud, and said, "You can try Aisle X". No eye contact, no greeting, nothing. I happened to find said object in that aisle, so kudos to you, lady (and you can stop shaking your head no, which indicates to me that you cannot help me). I then wandered for probably 10 minutes more looking for two other items. I found an employee walking out of the back room and asked her, since I seemed to be in the right section for both items. She said (while chewing something and standing about 2 feet away from the aisles themselves), "Um, maybe the last aisle, just keep walking. Yeah, the second item would be on the end." I thanked her; she replied "Uh huh". Checked the aisles for the fourth time; NO SUCH ITEMS, not in the place she suggested, not anywhere. I walked to the check-out. There were three people up there, and only one employee appeared to be checking out. "All set?", she asked. I told her no, I was still looking for one of the items. She sighed and seemed EXTREMELY annoyed. (This is 30 minutes after they opened!!). She called back to someone who found that they didn't carry that item anymore. If you're unfortunate enough to be stuck in a Michaels, there simply is no way to find what you're looking for, other than to walk around aimlessly and check every aisle. Cause sure as shit, nobody's going to help you, and if you happen to corner someone who WORKS THERE, they're loathe to help you, and will let you know that. Btw, I found the last two items at JoAnn Fabrics in Onxard. JAF has 1/10th the inventory - - but is about 1/3 the price, and they have FRIENDLY EMPLOYEES! Stuff it, Michaels. Where to begin here... well, I basically only ever shop in this store if I am totally out of other options or if I need something RIGHT NOW. My most recent horrible experience happened today: I went to Michael's to find a part to fix a necklace for my mother. I brought part of the necklace with me to the store to match the colors. One of the store associates I had asked for help took the part of the necklace from me, I asked for it back but before they handed it back to me they bent it and subsequently broke the part I had into multiple pieces. Then the clerk tells me they do not have the material I needed and sort of shrugged. He broke my necklace part. He did not care. The store "help" does not listen. They do not care to actually give you any sort of customer service. The lines in the store are painfully long no matter when you go since they usually only have one cashier. It makes me sad that I cannot even shop in local stores anymore. Michael's is not alone in their poor service. I guess they sometimes have decent sales and coupons but at the moment I am questioning whether the savings are worth the hassle and frustration. read more

This is the closest Michaels to where i live. Craft stores have just become few and far between over the years as the internet and sites like etsy and pinterest have people becoming really into DIY and with amazon, you don't need to go into Michaels as often because you can get supplies online, usually, for cheaper. I do like that the staff here are kind and helpful. Their framing department is always organized and the older man in framing is incredibly helpful and talented. The store could be a little more organized, at times when I go in I feel like the employees are all always doing gobacks, and the store always seems slighty disheveled. I appreciate coming here when I do need to brainstorm or need craft ideas or last minute craft fixes, but usually I just stick to online shopping. Don't forget to go online before you go into their store because they usually have coupons on their website! read more

The items seemed to be pretty organized, and I found the items I needed with ease. this store can become quite hectic from people ravishing through the craft store...they have everything here. Absolutely horrible customer service ! I will definitely not be going back to this store. I went into the store for a quick purchase of a Christmas tree (that said in stock online) I get there a nice lady helped me out for 30 minutes to try to find it but unfortunately she had to go back to the register. Next lady I got you could tell how annoyed she was. She said there was none of that tree and the display was the only one available (so I took that as I could have the display) so I asked ok then can I purchase the display and she told me I have to ask my manager. I was sitting there thinking you just offered it though, so she got on her radio IN FRONT OF ME and says "the customer now wants to know if she can buy the display even though it early in the season". I thought that was so disrespectful. The manager said yes and she went to the back to get the displays box. She came back almost 10 minutes later and was attempting to break it down but said she didn't know how to take it apart after messing with it for a few minutes and had issues even putting a 4ft tree in the cart. I checked out and got it home just to realize a leg from the stand was missing, so I called the store and they transferred me to the "manager". I explained what had happened and said maybe it fell off when she was putting it in my cart and her response was "well you unloaded it in your car yourself right?" Now accusing me of breaking it. Of course I had already checked the trunk and made sure it wasn't there and nothing the manager claimed she couldn't find it so call back maybe they will find it in an hour or so. I decided to drive back over there to look myself because how does a leg of a tree disappear ?! Nothing there and when I asked an associate for help they told me oh we will have to text him the manager (so what female "manager" was I talking to 15/20 minutes before). They said leave my number but there was nothing they could do for me at the time and the manager will call me in the morning. No call the next day. I ended up going to a Michael's an hour away to exchange the tree. DONT SHOP HERE! read more

Just like all Michaels, this one has a great selection of crafting supplies. The Ventura location however, ALWAYS has a giant line to check out. It doesn't matter if you're there on a Wednesday at 1:00 or Friday at 10:00 I have never seen less than 5 people waiting to check out. This store is so understaffed, that many people take one look at the huge line and walk right back out the door. It'd be great, if they hired some more people. I'll get right to the point, Michaels long lines suck! When there's 10 people in line, several employees on the floor doing what, I don't know, and two cash registers open, it just doesn't make sense to not pull someone off the floor to open another register, or two. Been a regular at this Michaels for a bit. I think it's awesome! The layout is great and everything is super easy to find. I've purchased paint, locker gear for my daughters first day of high school, dye kits, stuff to make all my anniversary gifts for the hubby. My all time favorite thing to buy is the frames! They're always on sale and affordable. Every frame in my house is from here. They're great quality and have a wide variety. Worth checking out. They have every type of product for every type of craft. The place is loaded with stuff! Another great thing about this Michaels is the staff. Every single time we've been there it's been easy to find help and and they've been very accommodating. Even this evening, when 15 minutes past closing, we were still shopping the sales associate came over and asked what she could help us with instead of just giving us the boot! The Michaels in Ventura is one I can count on. They always have a pretty nice selection of craft supplies, especially paint, scrapbook supplies, pictures and framing, model cars and airplanes & wood supplies. As far as the sewing selection, its pretty basic. This Michaels has a wide variety of cake decorating stuff as well. Tons of Icing, food coloring, cake toppers, paper cupcake holders, silicone baking trays, festive cookie cutters and a boat load of other neat baking stuff. Whenever Im bored and in need of a project, I find myself coming to this Michaels and always finding something. read more

Absolutely rudest customer service! They are closed due to the issues going around the world which is understandable, and was told that during a pick up you would get detailed instructions in the email, which did not have detailed instructions they were old instructions for pick up. So when I called to verify I was given an attitude like I should know what to do. So when I came to pick up my order, once again the same lady was rude as if I should know exactly to park in front of the door and not in a legal spot, just all-around not courteous. I love Michael's store however today I went in and asked an employee for help on how I could order a certain size needle so my mom can get it in Nevada she has a Michael's in town but they can not order what she needs. I saw this sign walking in and asked the guy if I could order it and ship it to her and he didn't even know this sign was on the window. The guy who helped looked lost and asked me to repeat my questions by saying "What was it again that you were asking again" I told him never mind he was obviously involved with a conversation with the other employee and could not help me. He pointed to the far back end of the store and said the yarn and needles are back there. I was very disappointed with his lack of experience with customers, the lack of his attention to the customer and the lack of respect he had. I hope he finds something he likes to do because this job was not for him. So disappointed and I do want to get his name and picture. So rude. read more

They may all look the same, but there is one advantage to that: at least they issue 40 percent off coupons on a regular basis. Having said that, this location is organized like any other Michaels store. The well-lit big-box store has sections for frames, art supplies, threads and yarns, scrapbooks (I'm surprised people still do this in the digital information era), fake shrubbery and flora, and beads. I especially liked the selection of beads available at this location (so many colors and patterns!), and my family and I ended up buying quite a few of them (they happened to be on sale when we were there). Awesome Manager Elder, Amazing Paper class with Renee, The staff were so helpful- call out to Michelle, Bell, Shawn, Alicia, Janell and Assistant Manager (name has escaped my mind but really is fabulous) Top notch customer service, totally go above and beyond. I have noticed over the last 2 months a HUGE improvement with Michaels and in particular this store location. This is going based on other hobby stores.
