She has been with me through both my pregnancies, which were a bit complicated to say the least. I received the worst possible care from Dr. Bergman. She was dismissive of my pain at 5 months pregnant, sent me home and told me I was experiencing pre-term labor at 2cm dilated. She didn't even tell me herself, she had a nurse give me that news. As I was getting carted to the ultrasound by the nurse, I heard her talking about me with the nurses and making a joke that I was exaggerating my pain. She kept saying "you're pregnant, you're going to experience some round ligament pain around this time". I explained my period like aches that lasted over 12 hours and she still treated me like I wasn't really in pain. I also have fibroids and asked her if it could be that and she sound surprised. "Oh you have fibroids".. this is the first thing listed on my MyChart. So after 6 hours of her trying to give me tyelenol and dismissing me by only sending in nurses, she suggested medication but said I could only take it there and she wouldn't be able to prescribe it to me. WHAT? I declined because she never described to me what the medication was at all. She just said "we give it to women with fibroids". After experience her talk about me to the nurses and her constant dismissal, we decided to leave and go somewhere else in the morning. Turn out I had an inflamed fibroids that had grew 2 inches in 2 days and it was extremely painful while pregnant. I was not in preterm labor and I was not dilated at all. It's truly a shame that she could be such a cruel, rude, and judgmental doctor as a woman. Didn't even take a glance at my chart to really give me good care and I had to call twice to ask for an after visit summary 6 hours later after my visit. I now travel 45 minutes to Alta Bates just to avoid ever having to experience this woman ever again as she handles most of OB care and is their longest tenured OB on staff. I have already formally written my complaint to Sutter and received an acknowledgement from them but I had to write this publicly so I can hopefully save anyone else from this horrible experience. read more

Dr. Bergman was my obgyn DR for my second child. My first child was delivered through John Muir but due to insurance changes I switched to Sutter Health. I whole heartedly believe that God put Dr Bergman in my path when I needed the most caring, knowledgeable, amazing Dr I've ever had. I originally had an appointment with a different Dr for my first Ob appointment but she was not available when I was having some early issues. Dr Bergman fit me in for an emergency appointment to check on my baby. She is so caring and I really felt I needed to switch to her and I am so very glad I did. Even though I have already had my baby I wish I could come back to see her as my regular primary Dr! Throughout my entire pregnancy she was there to answer my questions and concerns. Even on her day off she would call me when I had the flu to prescribe me medication and answer all my question. She also made sure she saw me even after her office closed one day because I thought my water had broke and ended up being induced that day. She came in the next day to deliver my baby even though it was her weekend! (Which is not always the case, I've herd many many stories of women delivering with the on call Dr) Even my husband who could not come to any of my appointments due to Covid right off the bad took note of how caring and hard working of a Dr she is when we went to the hospital together. I really cannot recommend Dr Bergman enough and Five stars does not begin to do her justice. She deserves a million starts in my book! read more

I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Bergman and her fantastic care team (both at the office & hospital)! Dr. Bergman is popular, so sometimes the wait to see her is long, but totally worth it! With my first child I received OB care from SEBMF in Orinda and delivered at Alta Bates. I had an awful experience and was re-hospitalized for 5 days after being discharged from delivery with severe complications that were missed and dismissed when I had brought them up with that particular care team. The experience was extremely traumatic, and it took 3 years for my husband and I to decide to try for a second child. We also knew that I needed to find a new practice. When I became pregnant again, I switched to Dr.Bergman. Sadly, we suffered a miscarriage. Dr. Bergman was exceptionally compassionate and caring during the entire process. She encouraged me and gave me hope. We were able to get pregnant again and Dr. Bergman and her wonderful staff took outstanding care of us. I was very nervous for this pregnancy and delivery based on my previous experiences and Dr. Bergman took every precaution to make sure I was safe and comfortable during both the pregnancy and delivery. Because my delivery took a long time (an induction that resulted in a c-section), we had a long hospital stay meaning that I did not see Dr. Bergman every day that I was in the hospital. She made a point to call me in my hospital room to check on me and see how I was doing. I have never met a doctor who goes above and beyond to care for patients as she does, and if this delivery experience had been for our first child, we would not have waited so long to try for a second! I hope people take the time to read this because it is very important to know how terrifyingly horrible Dr Bergman can be. I am writing this 5 years after having her as my doctor because it still effects me to this day!! I initially chose her because I wanted to support a woman of color in medicine. This was my first child after 10 years so I had lots of questions and lots of anxiety. Every single solitary appointment with her was one where I had to wait at least 45 minutes to and hour to be seen. Sometimes she would be at lunch while I was sitting there waiting. On the day of my delivery I was in horrible pain and although my contractions were hard I wasn't dilating fast. She called the phone in my room and told me to stop crying, "there's no crying in baseball"- I told her I was in a lot of pain, but was afraid to have an epidural. She wasn't empathetic at all. When she finally came in the room to deliver my baby I was numb from the medicine so I couldn't feel my pushes. She threatened that if I didn't push harder she'd have to use the vacuum to suction my baby. I was so upset, scared, anxious. I felt like a failure because I'd never had issues in my other pregnancies and deliveries. I end up delivering- she did use the suction which I was against- and also informed me that I had ripped. She sewed me up and left the room. I saw Dr Bergman for two check ups after that so I could receive my disability paperwork but couldn't wait to switch doctors. I'm writing this now because I was blessed to have another baby two days ago. Ironically enough Dr Bergman was subbing for my OB and came in my room to do my follow up check up. She didn't even remember that I had been her patient! She waltzed in my room, checked my heartbeat and nothing else, made small talk and looked confused when I brought up the fact she had been my OB and delivered my child 5 years ago. She is careless and can be very condescending and cruel. She has zero connection with her patients which is really sad. Thankfully I have a great new OB and he was awesome start to finish. read more

We had a wonderful experience with our delivery with Dr Bergman and her staff. We felt fully supported by her and loved that she advocated for us during some unclear moments for our baby's care after the delivery. I also felt like she was extremely compassionate and easy to talk to. As a first-time mom and AA woman, I was extremely nervous about my experience during the delivery, but with Dr Bergman and her team, I actually trusted the entire staff to take great care of me. I find it extremely hard to believe she even has any bad reviews at all because she has been the most incredibly caring and knowledgeable OBGYN I've had and I've now had three babies all different doctors not to mention all c sections... I knew immediately after my very first appointment with Dr Bergman that I was meant to have her as my dr for this last pregnancy. From my first appointment to my last she ALWAYS came in with the greatest attitude and excitement. I always felt so comfortable and cared for. She makes sure to really listen and go above and beyond to make sure you feel confident and comfortable. I came across about 3 sutter Employees who had her deliver their babies and every single one said the same thing, she is AMAZING and truly the best at what she does. Not only that, I also came across a handful of friends and others who also had her deliver their babies and EVERY single lady said the same. I first began to see Dr. Bergman last year when I found out I had become pregnant again. I had just switched over from Kaiser to Sutter due to an awful experience with how my high risk pregnancy was handled (at Kaiser) and almost nothing was done to attempt to save my first child. I really began to believe and hope again that something could be done this time around with my second pregnancy, thanks to Dr. Bergman and the entire team. Right off the bat she gave us the hope we needed to fight for our Baby Girl, she did not waste any time and immediately set a plan for me (on how my pregnancy will look like with the months to come, what follow ups I would have to do, she emphasized what I was allowed to do and what was recommended I not do during my time on bedrest, she informed me ahead of time who I would possibly be seeing for more follow up services,etc). She immediately had me referred to all of the specialists I needed to see for my surgery and follow ups to continue monitoring me and my baby girl. Dr. Bergman did not AT ALL let me fall through the cracks! She was and still is attentive to my questions and concerns and always responds to my messages. I even had an incident where I had to go to the E.R. after my surgery for my cerclage and she made sure to call me and check in on me personally (it's rare to have a provider call you that same day even after hours to check in on you, which is why Dr. Bergman is amazing for that!). My husband and I are forever thankful for everything she has done for our family and for taking our loss and grief seriously. I remember sitting in the room talking to her the first time we met, about everything that happened with my son and she made the environment so comforting and peaceful, I actually felt like a person and not another number. That's the kind of feeling a patient should feel at every doctors appointment and Dr. Bergman makes sure of that! When it comes to appointments, I thankfully had the experience of having my appointments set on the desired dates and days of the week that worked for my schedule. If anything came up and an appointment needed to be rescheduled, the office almost always had a slot available soon after. I even felt super special because the front desk know me by name, and would still recognize even with a mask on! For any of the mothers that have dealt with IC, I highly recommend Dr. Bergman. She is on top of everything 1000% and is there with you every single step of the way. She was really there for me and my family throughout my entire pregnancy journey and she even made sure to be available to deliver my baby girl! I remember seeing the excitement in her face and eyes when I held my baby girl in my arms. It was a very emotional moment because she saw how much I desired for my child to be with my husband and I and she took care of us right from the beginning, she really is an Angel from heaven. I'm a nurse @ a hospital & unfortunately see how pleasant bedside demeanor is a lost art. Dr. Bergman makes you feel as though you are one of her friends coming in for a visit. She hugged me at the end. What in the world!? Simply put...she's wonderful. THE NEGATIVES: 1) She's popular so I couldn't get a quick appointment (however I would rather wait for quality treatment). 2) she was running an hour behind schedule when I saw her (she apologized profusely & didn't rush through her visit with me). SOME KEY POSITIVES: 1) she will respond to every single message you write her by the end of the day. ALWAYS. 2) She will return your call by the end of the day. My experience being a patient of Dr. Bergman has always been wonderful. She is very warm and friendly from the moment she walks in the door. She enters the room and asks if i have any concerns. She waits an listens to me for my answer. She has always been alert and responsive to my concerns. I will never forget her excitement and joy as she told me and my husband we were having a boy (we have two girls and were hoping for a boy). It was an incredible moment. Then when I had my son, she was so calming. She sat with us as we waited for him to come. So patient and attentive. My insurance recently switched and she is no longer in my network. I LOVE THIS WOMAN!!! I've been seeing Dr. Bergman for years now and she has ALWAYS been nothing but a warm, caring person towards myself and my family. She listens, offers great advise and is very empathetic. She really cares about her patients and is very hands on. She try's to personally deliver all of her patients babies and is soo very supportive in the delivery room. True, she does tend to run late on her appointments sometimes, however, that's because she cares!! And you want to wait for her because you know she's an excellent doctor. She doesn't rush her patients in and out, she takes time with them and that's why we love her!!! Assumed that this would be the best doc. Wanted a doc of color and sensitive to my needs. Every doctor appointment I felt rushed , a lot of my doctor appointments were canceled or reschedule the day of which made me feel that I was not valued as a patient. Doctor did not listen to me when I informed her of my fast labor plus was not available to deliver my child. When I tried to speak with doctor at my two week check up to explain my concerns , she didn't seem to care as evident her talking over me. She is the worse doctor I have ever encountered! I went in to labor and delivery, was in pain, having contractions. This woman shoved her entire first up inside of me. I told her to stop and she would not. I then had to crawl up the bed to get her hand out of me because she was causing me such intense pain! That didn't even work! My mom saw the entire thing and so did a nurse who came back into the room once the doctor left and told me I didn't need to have her deliver my baby. I was terrified! I think she's got something against white people or something! I had never met her in my life and this was my 1st impression of her! Worst doctor ever! Please be cautious when picking this woman! My wife started seeing Dr. Bergman about nine months ago when she found out we were about to have a baby and new to Brentwood. A few weeks went past and we were lucky to find out we were having identical twins. They are now 5 weeks old and we have been wanting to find the time in that period to write a review for our almost year long experience with Dr. Bergman. Because of COVID I was limited in the number of appointments I could attend with my wife so I really got to see this incredible Dr. in action in the hospital. For all the men that want to see someone advocate for their wife and for all the woman who want a Dr who is willing to both be there for you and provide the care that is needed, look no further. We were concerned about a C section and all of the work that goes with having twins and could not have had a better experience at the start of their lives with Michelle Bergman. Dr. Bergman deserves more than 5 stars! I transferred to Dr. Bergman's care when I was 16 weeks pregnant with my daughter. As a first time mom, I felt emotionally stressed and very unprepared. When I initially met with her she said "you're my last patient today, I'll sit here and talk to you as long as you want." She remained compassionate, informative, personable, and so amazing through my pregnancy and delivery. She even made extra visits to the hospital to see me, despite the fact that she was juggling her own children, family time, and a holiday vacation. Today was my first postpartum visit, and as always, Dr. Bergman made me feel cared for, as if I was one of her own kids. I've never felt so at ease seeing an OB/GYN. Choosing her was the best decision! I have to say that I am pretty surprised Dr. Bergman has nothing but good reviews. I have never seen her as an outpatient, but my experience with her during my first labor & delivery was absolutely horrible. I normally see Dr. Kyla Yee as my OBGYN, whom I absolutely love & adore! Unfortunately, when I went into labor with my first child in 2009, it was over the weekend and it was Dr. Bergman who was on call. Now, I have a big family...I had discussed with Dr. Yee during my pregnancy that I wanted my husband, mother, mother-in-law, two sisters and two nieces in the room when I delivered - a total of 7 people. I know this was a lot, and I believe they usually only allow 4 people max in the room, however - this was something I previously discussed with my regular OB and she was fine with it so long as everyone was not in her or the hospital staff's way. No problem at all. I mentioned this to Dr. Bergman at the beginning of my stay, who told me that that wasn't going to fly with her and I needed to decide who to kick out. Well, SORRY...but this is the birth of MY child and if I want these people there as planned, then they will be there. I understand that should emergencies arise, they should all be sent out of the room, but if my delivery goes smoothly, why not have it the way I want it to be? So, I kept them in there. Later on, as I began to push and Dr. Bergman came back into the room, she noticed that all 7 people were still in the room and decided to yell at everyone (mind you - I'm in the middle of pushing) to get out of the room - INCLUDING MY HUSBAND since I didn't listen the first time. Was she serious? Did she really expect me to deliver my first child ALONE? This was completely unacceptable. Luckily, my mom was finally able to speak with her and calm her down. She eventually allowed me to keep everyone I wanted in the room while I delivered. They all stayed out of the way and didn't interrupt any part of my delivery at all. The only reason why I'm giving her two stars instead of one is because I have worked in the health field before. I understand that doctors are people too and sometimes they have bad days, which I can only assume is what happened with Dr. Bergman on this particular day. Hopefully she treats her normal outpatients a lot better. I am currently pregnant with my second child and if she is on call when I go into labor, I will be demanding a different doctor to deliver me. read more

Dr Bergman, in a nutshell, is the reason I got pregnant. HA! Sounds funny I know. But she helped me overcome so many fears I had. She always took her time in answering my questions, and reminded me of all the great things about pregnancy and having a child. Through this process, she has been nothing short of wonderful. She is always very happy to see me, takes her time, etc. I also appreciate that she has a very realistic approach to pregnancy. I had all kinds of questions when I first got pregnant... i.e., "Can I eat deli meat? How about herbal tea? How much weight can I gain?" She explained that I was a healthy young adult and just needed to continue doing what I already had been. I appreciate her calm approach. I have friends whose doctors are scolding them for having gained two extra pounds in a month than they should have, etc... not the case with Dr Bergman! She realizes we are human, that our bodies are all different, and just ensures that we are healthy and so is our baby. I love that about her! She also helps me to feel very in control of this entire process. One last plus is that she tries to attend the delivery of all her babies, which I love. Can't say enough great things about her. I adore Dr. Bergman. She is friendly, open, and informative. She has no problem discussing any issues/questions you may have. Warm and welcoming -- which is really important in an OB. She hugged me and wished me congratulations on my pregnancy during our first appointment. I immediately felt at home and comfortable with her. Her MA is fantastic too. In fact, I've been to her Brentwood and Antioch office, and the staff at both are awesome. The only "con" I have is that she is so friendly and chatty -- which means she is often running behind schedule. During my pregnancy, I had to wait an average of 40 minutes after my appointment time before seeing her. Generally I didn't mind, because I liked having her as my OB. However at the tail end of the pregnancy when I was in there every 2 weeks it became frustrating. read more
