I actually chose a couple of doctors before but ended up canceling both times. Finally, after more searching, I found Dr. Kristina Hobson in Los Gatos. To be honest, when I first walked into her office, I was already looking for an excuse to cancel again. But once I spoke with her, I was really impressed with her knowledge and the way she explained everything, so I decided to keep my appointment. Today was my procedure at Silicon Valley Surgery Center, and I had such a great experience. The facility was clean, calm, and very nice. Every single person I interacted with was wonderful. From the front desk to Barbara, who helped review my paperwork everyone was kind and welcoming. My first nurse, Kay, was incredibly nice, knowledgeable, and professional. When she went on break, Nicole took over she was also amazing. I'm not a fan of needles at all, but she did my IV so gently and with so much care. Then Kat, the third nurse, took me to the procedure room she was kind, calm, and very professional. Dr. Michael Block, the anesthesiologist, was excellent. He actually texted me the night before to ask if I wanted to review everything ahead of time or on the day of the procedure, which I really appreciated. We exchanged a few messages, and then he spoke with me again before the procedure and explained everything clearly. He was confident, knowledgeable, and very reassuring. In the procedure room, I fell asleep within seconds and woke up quickly afterward feeling great. Within about 30 minutes, I felt completely fine. I was even able to take calls and respond to emails. And now, about Dr. Hobson ,she is truly a 10 out of 10. Honestly, the entire experience was 10 out of 10. From the office to the surgery center, every single nurse and staff member was exceptional. I'm a very detail-oriented and perfectionist person because of my job, so I don't say this lightly. Something I was so scared of and postponed for 5 years turned into such a smooth and positive experience. Thank you to everyone

Dr. Zhang came in about 3 minutes later and politely listen to my life story C; Dr. Zhang explained what she thinks is going on but wanted to do some test first to make sure. Dr. Zhang ordered a test and told me the office would call me to schedule my up coming procedure. Unfortunately this practice is not allowing their doctors enough desk time to adequately care for…read morepatients. Post COVID, the workload of doctors exploded as patients became more demanding of messaging based health care. There are multiple ways to handle this load, including billing for refills, for responses to online messages, so that doctors are able to reserve a portion of their day to help emergent situations, and answer simple questions so that we don't have to turn to the internet for healthcare. That leads to to #1 - a common complaint. 1. Long wait for appointments and no help in between - the appointment strategy is regular checkins with a lot of "yes, everything is the same," and "we give you a lot of prescriptions but ultimately they are tools in your toolkit and it is up to you to find the right balance in using them." Every 3 months, no change. But then when something is critically wrong, no help without an appointment even for simple questions. Digestion problems - by their nature - are not a regular steady state disease. If your disease waxes and wanes, do not expect help in between appointments. 2. No help with insurance - Other speciality clinics for rare disease are used to insurance denials for referred tests and procedures and work hard to get them approved for you. Unfortunately that does not seem to be the case here. I was - and still am - in need of MNT, but no go. 3. Questionable referrals in light of no help with insurance - my insurance was known to not cover their pelvic floor physical therapy clinic, yet I was put on a wait list. That wait list was a year long - THEN they told me it was not covered. Again, other speciality clinics work within the limits that they are aware of regarding insurance coverage for their patients. A year delay in care is unacceptable. The people are lovely - especially some of the nurses doing tests. But the way the practice is set up is not meeting the needs of patients. Time will tell if chatGPT gave me the right info to handle my emergent issue, since my primary did not feel prepared to answer in light of the rare disease at play.

HORRIBLE doctor who does not care about his patients. He is a clear example of a specialist who…read moredoes not want to do anything for his patients and tries to kick off responsibilities to other teams even though he is assigned to treat my problem and specializes in the issue. While some people seem to have positive experiences with him, it seems that he reserves his professionalism for certain people and not others. Beware. He is unwilling to spend 5 minutes doing something that could change somebody's life for the better. I am undergoing treatment with him and other specialists for why I keep on losing my voice for weeks at a time. I simply needed accommodations for my hoarse voice and LOSING my voice for significant periods of time. This has significantly impacted my ability to participate in class. My voice is GONE. It can come back one day and be completely gone the next day. It is very normal to seek academic accommodations for a loss of voice. For example, if you are taking a language class, sometimes you need to push out your deadlines for presenting if you literally don't have a voice. My school does this through the disabled students department. And currently, consistently losing my voice has become a disability because I literally can't talk and complete some of my assignments. Many teachers ONLY accept accommodations through the disabled students program: informal requests are often denied. He is the first doctor I have ever met who has refused to provide any kind of letter simply asking for accommodations surrounding a lost voice--e.g. something as simple as "this student needs to have flexible deadlines as they often lose their voice. Currently I am not clear on what the diagnosis is, but I request flexibility for their voice loss. Their loss of voice affects them to effectively participate verbally in class, so deadlines may need to be pushed until they regain their voice." Instead, he sent a very rude and low-effort email saying that he is unwilling to write me an accommodations letter simply because he doesn't know what my issue is and disagrees with the other specialist. This is unacceptable. For example, let's say somebody has some other terrible, similarly disabling disease. It might take a couple of months for the specialists to agree on a diagnosis, but they could still be suffering and their ability to participate in society, work, school, etc. is completely affected. They should get accommodations. I'm getting diagnoses or medical opinions thrown at me left and right. Even if different doctors have different opinions, ultimately, one thing remains the same: I have lost my voice for almost 20 days in one month and continue to be hoarse or lose it altogether some days. Other people had recommended this doctor to me. I had high hopes. I have never encountered such an irresponsible, uncaring, and callous doctor before. I don't doubt that he is probably academically brilliant. I just think that he doesn't realize that taking 5-10 minutes out of his day to fill out a form could change someone's life for the better. Even more malicious: perhaps he does, and chooses not to because as a specialist, he is above this kind of work.
