IF YOU HAVE A PAINFUL NEUROMA in your foot. This one is for you! TLDR:: Dr Usman is Seriously Amazing. Extremely comprehensive and did not rush AT ALL. The wait and the 4 hour drive to see him was WELL worth it. My story; For more than two years, I lived with constant pain from a Morton's neuroma. What started as occasional discomfort gradually became something that affected nearly every part of my life. Simple things most people take for granted became difficult. Walking my dog, standing in the kitchen to cook dinner, shopping, traveling, and even getting through a workday were painful. At night, I would often lie awake because of the burning, tingling, and electric shock sensations shooting through my foot. I honestly felt hopeless. I constantly googled, ChatGPT, researched on line and did so much. Over the years, I saw multiple doctors (1 sports medicine MD, 1 orthopedic doctor and one podiatrist l) and tried just about everything that was recommended. I went through custom orthotics, physical therapy, shoe modifications, several cortisone injections, and alcohol sclerosing injections. While some treatments provided temporary relief, the pain always returned and returned with a vengeance! Eventually, I was told by my local doctor that surgical nerve removal was likely my next option. The idea of surgery, recovery time, and the possibility that it still might not solve the problem left me feeling extremely discouraged. That's when I searched and emailed Dr Usman (used the main email which his staff forwarded to his direct email). He replied so quickly to me even though I was not an official patient of his! I immediately scheduled an appointment with Dr. Usman. From my first visit, I felt that my concerns were genuinely being heard. Dr. Usman took the time to review my history, explain why previous treatments may not have worked, and discuss all available options. One treatment we discussed was cryosurgery (cryoablation), a minimally invasive procedure designed to treat my painful nerves by using extremely cold temperatures. After a few weeks later, I was cleared for the procedure and the procedure itself was so much easier than I expected. It was performed in his extremely clean and Beautiful office. During the procedure at several points he made me felt very comfortable and checked up on me and explained in detail what he was doing. He made a very small pin point entry point in my foot and did cryosurgery for my neuroma! I had no large incisions or stitches. I was able to walk out of the office afterward wearing a comfortable surgical shoe. About 1 week after the cryoabalation of my neuroma, I woke up, stepped on the ground with my bare feet and I had ZERO pain. For the first time! The pain that had controlled my life for years finally began to improve. Today, about 6 weeks later, I am back to doing the activities I had given up. I can walk longer distances, enjoy social events, and spend time with family without constantly thinking about my foot. The sharp burning, walking on a rock pebble and electrical sensations that once dominated my day are no longer part of my everyday life. No treatment is right for every patient, and everyone's results are different. However, if you have been struggling with Morton's neuroma, have tried multiple conservative treatments, or have been told surgery is your only remaining option, it may be worth learning more about cryosurgery/cryoabalation and discussing whether it is appropriate for your situation. I only write this review to help those out there still struggling like I was. For me, finding Dr. Usman and Michigan Avenue Podiatry Clinic was a turning point. After years of frustration, I finally found relief and was able to get back to living my life. If you're on the fence about seeing Dr Usman for your foot problems. Went to see Dr Usman because one of my gout Tophi was really hurting and looked infected. He had me come in the same day. Glad I went. He looked at it, cleaned it, and took biopsies of the uric acid crystals and the actual wound it's self. Said my gout was miss managed and wanted to put me on Allopurinol and Colchicine once we had lab results back. Started me on an antibiotic but called me and said he was switching my antibiotics because they found 7 different bacteria in my wound. Got all my other blood tests back and started the allopurinol and colchicine. I am now feeling better and it's all because of Dr Usman. I have had many Dr's in my life, but none that actually cared like he does. He wants to make sure you get better. This Dr would text me at night to check in on me and make sure everything was good. He was always there to answer my questions. I appreciate him more than he knows. If you are needing a podiatrist and you don't go see Dr Usman you are doing yourself a disservice!!! Thank you Dr U. I am extremely disheartened to write this review on this business but feel that I must share because of the serious issue that happened during my visit. I have been here twice. The first time was on 10/21/19 and saw Dr. Pam Eernisse for an ingrown toenail that was very painful. She was very nice, attentive and helpful with regards to my condition. Lately, I have been having alot of pain on my right heel so I decided to return to this establishment on 6/26/24 to see Dr. Hye Yoo & get it checked out. When I arrived, I remembered how cozy the waiting area is and smiled. Bree checked me in and gave me a computer tablet to fill out medical specifics. On the tablet it asked about medical history and medications currently taking along with allergies. It was pretty detailed and took a while to finish. I was actually glad to fill that information out and at the time, felt that it was efficient. When I finished, I waited to be called. When called, I came to the back - x-rays were done of my foot and Dr. Yoo attended to me. She let me know that I have 2 diagnosis: Acute Tendonitis and Haglund's Deformity. She let me know that I should get orthotics, physical therapy and surgery may be a possibility. She went on to say that she wanted to prescribe a medication for me and named the medication. I point blank asked her if that medication would interact with any of my other medications because I take many. She asked me what I take and I told her all of that was on the tablet I filled out. She still asked me to name the medications I take. I told her 2 of the medications - she stopped me mid-sentence and told me "oh, just check with your pharmacist to make sure there are no interactions". Say WHAT??!! Never in all my years on this earth has ANY doctor told me this - it's their job to make sure there are no interactions. I felt like she was just trying to finish up with me to go on to the next patient. Why have a patient fill out a medication list if you're NOT willing to take a few seconds to look at it. It's your job to do so. She also didn't tell me that Haglund's Deformity is permanent, it doesn't go away on it's own. I had to learn that on my own. That definitely should of been an important fact to mention. The next day, in foot pain, I hobble over to my pharmacy to pick up my medication. My pharmacist told me "oh, we cannot fill this because it interacts with another medication that you take". I instantly got mad. I called the medical office immediately and talked with Bree about this situation. She first praised Dr. Yoo as a doctor and then told me "oh, ask your specialty doctor about the prescription". Dr. Yoo prescribed it, not my specialty doctor and I told her it needs to be addressed by Dr. Yoo. She put me on hold, came back and told me that Dr. Yoo would now speak to me. I held the line. Bree came back on the phone to tell me that Dr. Yoo said there isn't anything else to prescribe to me. I told Bree this was unacceptable as I was supposed to speak to the doctor myself and was given the excuse that she was at another facility that day. Bree told me she would talk to one of the other doctors the next day and call me back with a resolve. Did I get a call back? NO. On July 2, Oscar, the nurse assistant left me a voicemail to tell me that he checked with my insurance and my orthotics would be FULLY COVERED (see attached). I called him back the next day and Bree answered the phone. I explained who I was and at no point did she bring up the past issue she was to call me back on. I asked to speak to Oscar. Oscar verified and told me, yes, my orthotics would be fully covered. I asked him for documentation from the medical office with their letterhead showing this benefit information. He told me he'd call me back by the end of his workday to let me know if he could do that. He also told me that I needed to put a $100 deposit down to order the orthotics. If my insurance is fully covering them, it makes no sense whatsoever that I give $100. When I voiced this, he tells me that is the policy of the medical office. Unbelievable! And if you are wondering, no, of course, Oscar did not call me back that day and 9 days later, I have heard nothing. My pharmacist was in utter shock and could not believe it when I told him that my doctor told me to check with him for interactions. It's a doctor's responsibility. What if I had taken it and gotten an adverse reaction to it? A simple check of my current medications would of eliminated ALL of this. I share this because this unfortunate error needed to be told. NO doctor should ever do this. A patient shouldn't have to do all the work inquiring about a mis-prescribed medication. A patient should feel valued and cared for by their doctor AND their staff and needless to say...I certainly didn't. When a doctor makes a mistake prescribing a medication they shouldn't have, they should make an effort to talk to that patient directly and address the issue. I got none of those things. read more

Please do not use Michigan Avenue Podiatry, they cannot be trusted to provide you with the information you need to make informed decisions about the cost of your healthcare. I was charged 1829% more than the price I agreed to pay - despite delaying authorization of treatment, and insisting they not proceed until a final price was in place. 6 months later, trying to have this sorted out has been a nightmare - MAP have lied to me; they have ignored emails and claimed they were never delivered; they have told me they will conduct an investigation, then 30 mins later left me voicemail threatening me with collections, without so much as a conversation; and they have laughed at me on the phone, and dismissed me sarcastically when asked to stop. Full story: I required orthotics for my left foot, and MAP sold me a standard, off the shelf insole for $40. They told me I could also get custom insoles made that would be more comfortable, for $640. They took molds of my feet, but I told them not to proceed with the order unless it was fully covered by my insurance. 2 weeks later, MAP told me they had contacted BCBS and confirmed they were covered in full, with a $35 copay. I proceeded with the order at that point/price. Months later, I got an invoice for $640. I queried it, and was told it was a mistake and to ignore it - that my account was fully up to date/nothing was outstanding. 6 months later, with no communication from MAP, I was still receiving emails monthly. I emailed MAP and asked them to remove it - and they told me my insurance claim had been rejected, and I would have to pay out of pocket. Reviewing the invoice in detail, I saw that MAP had charged me $320 per insole - one per foot. At no point was I offered only one insole - despite only having an issue with my left foot. It was sold to me as a pair only - had I known I could order one, I would have. The right insole they gave me has never been used. I emailed MAP and asked them to send me the documents they received from BCBS, that verified this was covered - they did not respond to me. I contacted BCBS, and they told me they have no record of MAP ever reaching out to them. They told me it was most likely, in their opinion, that the provider did not call for a quote and had lied to me about doing so. I emailed MAP explaining this, and how I was very unhappy with being led into this purchase under false pretenses of it being fully covered by insurance. This email also went unanswered. They later claimed my emails were undelivered. I was sent an email from the site manager telling me they would investigateand get back to me the next week. Less than an hour later, I was left a voicemail from MAP's billing team, immediately threatening to send my account to collections. When I called and spoke to him, the billing rep was extremely unprofessional - at one point laughing at me when I told him I was not happy at having to pay more than the price they quoted me. I asked him to stop and to act professionally - and he responded with another laugh, and a sarcastic "Ok then, Jason...". He also informed me that this situation happens so regularly at MAP, that they have stopped contacting insurance companies on behalf of the patients. MAP did not tell me this at the time of my appointment, and if I had known this was the case, I would have taken extra steps to verify coverage with my insurance myself - a lesson I have now learned. He also told me that at the time I had my appointment, MAP weren't making patients aware of their liability for additional costs if this were to happen - and again, they now have patients sign a form stating they understand this risk. After the call with the billing dept, I called the site manager again, who told me that everything above that the billing rep told me was untrue, and she had no idea why he said any of it. She was able to send me a PDF of a breakdown/summary of my insurance, but I couldn't decipher it or see where it specifically showed any request to find out if the specific orthotics were covered . I asked her to help me understand the form, but she couldn't. BCBS confirmed the PDF was generic, and did not cover orthotics specifically: "The documentation you provided shows the provider general information regarding your coverage. It does not show that the provider verified coverage for the specific orthotic foot insert you received." To just avoid any collections action being taken, I agreed to pay the reduced self-pay value of $490. MAP will charge you for more than you need, without making you aware of the lesser alternative, and they do not provide a united and honest answer to your questions. They will not care about the unexpected financial burden they put on you - and you may be ignored, laughed at and/or lied to when you try to sort out the hassle they have caused. Please just go somewhere else for your healthcare needs. read more

This practice is incredibly disorganized and you have to play phone tag in order to get a hold of everyone at the office. I am in the middle of a treatment and getting this prescription refilled has been harder than sending a rocket to mars. Email, texting their number, calling their office, nothing seems to work in terms of actually driving any follow up here. I was experiencing some pain after picking up my running. I called and was greeted with a friendly receptionist who was able to get me in that week, only a few days later. She directed me to the website to fill out some new patient paperwork. Getting to the office was easy to get to and again, very friendly staff. The doctor who I saw was very thorough and explained in detail what was going on and offered some preventative and reactive strategies to help alleviate the pain. I do wish that the handout was a bit more individualized as it just seemed like a googled worksheet that was copied and printed. I was referred to PT and given some other suggestions, all have been tremendously helpful with my recovery. Very pleased to have come across this during my training and the knowledge of the staff. I've had an infected toenail for years and have seen many different podiatrists, but she finally makes me think I have hope to save the nail (where other doctors were talking about permanent removal with pliers and novacaine - EEEEK!) Anyone with any foot trouble should come here. Yeah, there can be a bit of a wait, but that's the same at pretty much every doctor's office. Caveat: I struggled between a 2 star and a 3 star rating...went with the two star. I was experiencing problems with a neuroma for quite some time and finally decided to go see a podiatrist. My general physician who is great had this office on his list of recommended options - Dr. P. Eernisse. Professional friendly and thoughtful during the consults. I made an appointment and was quickly and accurately diagnosed. The progression for treating the problem is 1st try a steroid injection, 2nd try a series of saline injections, 3rd try orthotics with a metatarsal lift and 4th surgical excision from the top of the foot not the bottom. We tried #s 1,2&3 but surgery(#4) was definitely needed. A great job was done and a physical therapy regimen was recommended. The PT was just as important as the surgery itself and I can't say enough about how important it is to do this and to be consistent with the approximately 8wk regimen. The negative I experienced was with the orthotics. My first pair, pre-surgery, actually caused constant issues with my right (unaffected) foot because they pronated my foot outward too much. This was despite the Dr.'s review of how they fit. The metatarsal lift on the left orthotic didn't seem to be helping either. Both right and left had a cheap, very thin, vinyl coated piece of padding for the front part of the foot forward from the arches. Post surgery I was told to keep wearing them but something told me they were actually causing more problems. Finally after a few months of struggling with my own adjustments I went back and questioned the orthotics...were they the right ones??? The Dr held them up to my feet and in 1 second said..."these are the wrong ones"...huh?? Why wasn't this the case when they were originally reviewed by Dr. E?? Next a pair with softer padding in the forefoot were recommended...this I agreed with and followed what I thought was necessary based on endless tinkering with the faulty orthotics. Unfortunately a more aggressive metatarsal lift was designed into both right and left on the new ones but I'm not a podiatrist and this is why we go to the professionals. About a month later, the new pair of orthotics came in. When i picked them up they said the drill was for me to wear them for 1 hour day 1, 2 hours day 2 etc. Finally by the end of a week I could wear them full time. Well let me tell you, after the first day my feet were in massive pain. I went to Dick's sporting goods and got some off the shelf orthotics that solved the problem 100%. At the same time I didn't want to let them off the hook for a pair of $400 dollar orthotics. The problem was with the metatarsal lifts that were designed in...they were placed way too far forward and they were way to aggressively lifting upward...another podiatrist confirmed this for me. So I went back and said either refund my $$ 100% or fix these at no cost...just take the metatarsal lifts out and let me try that....I am now waiting for the "fixed" orthotics which are being FedExed to me because by this point I am out of town for an extended period. Moral of the story: The people taking the impressions for the super expensive custom orthotics don't have the skills to get it done. You'd think a physician's assistant would be the appropriate person but you don't have them in a podiatrists office. They were nice enough trying to get it done but not capable...I would recommend going someplace else for the orthotics or just go to Dick's sporting goods and look at a product called."softsoles with reinforced stability". They come with plenty of padding in the front and low, med, high arch design. Cost is 30 bux. Adding to the lack of satisfaction is the fact that I had to coach the desk person on the phone on how to figure out if FedEx or UPS could deliver the "repaired" orthotics to my location....ugh. My first wife was a physician so I know they can't get everything right...they are human beings. Dr. E was a good surgeon but support staff, doing such critical work as fitting orthotics which are as important as the surgery itself, are not up to snuff. I would recommend Illinois Bone and Joint Clinic. I recently took my elderly mother there for treatment and I'd say they have the facilities and the staff to get things done more efficiently. read more

Hi Everyone, Usually I do not write reviews about anything, although I must on what transpired on 3/23/2021. After trying to contact this office many times to no avail, I decided to stop by the office to ask a billing question due to being in the same building for another appointment. I was told the office manager Jacob, was not in at the moment and if I gave my name, I would be contacted. I have nothing but very positive things to say regarding the Dr's at the office, Dr. Berg especially. She is very professional and helpful with all my questions. My issue sadly is that I was insulted and threatened by Jacob the office manager. His exact words were "DO NOT SHOW UP TO THE OFFICE OR CALL" I was very surprised at the total lack of professionalism, not only as a patient, but as a human being. who in their right mind would ever treat someone, especially a patient like this, especially when a patient is trying to pay a bill so they can get paid. As I look at the other reviews on this page, it saddens me to have to write this review, although, no one should have to be treated like this or feel uncomfortable from anyone, especially at a dr office. Everyone has a bad day, but with regarding an employee, especially an Office Manager, there needs to be a level of professionalism that was not given. If I were a dr at this office I would terminate Jacob immediately, for showing such disrespect to a patient. Love the staff here. I've had two foot surgeries done by Dr. Eernisse and both went great. Dr. E is very good at explaining things, not rushing through your appointments with her and making sure all your questions are answered. Also, you know you have a good doctor working on your feet when your dermatologist is marveling at what a good looking, half healed scar you have! read more
