After doing some research on the best manufacturers of steering boxes, Turn One's name kept popping up. Still unsure of exactly what I needed for my application, I called up Turn One not sure what to expect from customer service. To my delight, I was put right through to Junior, an extremely knowledgable, and patient man! We spent about 30 minutes discussing the various technical aspects of the different options they offered. One question of mine, lead to another, and each question was met with definitive answers and the confidence to make a decision. Ultimately, I ended up going with their excellent 600 Series Performance Plus 16:1 ratio box. Junior had explained how each box is built from new parts, manufactured in-house. Unlike many other brands, their boxes are not remanufactured cores. To that end, each Performance Plus Model comes with a 'dyno' sheet listing the exact specs and test measurements rendered before it left their facility. You won't find this kind of detail shipped with any remanufactured boxes. After an easy installation, bleeding process, alignment, and field testing--it was like driving a brand new car! The steering was crisp, firm, yet smooth but with plenty of road feel. Absolute zero play. My previous box was sloppy, loose, and lazy. Other satisfied Turn One users have compared their boxes to a rack and pinion setup. It's remarkably close. I honestly never thought a Saginaw style box could be so refined. While technically slower than my old box (14:1), the 16:1 of the Turn One box makes highway driving and medium speed cruising a breeze. Not at all twitchy, and still very responsive. Bottom line--if you're serious about obtaining the best possible steering, with no sacrifice in quality, feel, or safety for your classic car, give Turn One a call. I went there to have an unusual noise checked out. I felt that paying him, $90, for his time and effort was a good decision. As it turns out.....NOT a good decision at all! He diagnosed the noise as the flywheel between the engine and transmission needing to be replaced. In addition, he also listed his needed repairs that were unrelated to my concern. They were axles, steering linkage and suspension parts, and an oil change. He gave an estimate of $3,086 for the cited repairs and I just had the oil changed 1 month ago. I was not told that he would be publicizing my vehicle's VIN and the cited repairs online for anyone (including car dealers) with access to Car-fax to see. When you go to trade in your car or truck after Dale Stroebel gives you an estimate, even if he does not do any work on your car, this information will be published! He told me this after the fact, and after I had visited a car dealership. There was no up front disclosure regarding his use of the information that he gleaned by inspecting my car.
