Slightly snarky free postcards from the welcome center!
Shannon M.

I always stop here on my way into Michigan when traveling with friends or family! Clean bathrooms, some vending machines, and an array of travel info for all areas of the state. We even got some free postcards! There's a nice playground outside and dog poop bags if you're traveling with your pet. Plenty of parking. Look for the lighthouse!

I am here!

Safe and spacious rest stop! The Michigan Welcome Center is wonderful for stopping for a bit to let the kiddos and pets run around a bit. There's a park with swings/slides for kids to blow off steam as well as a dog park. There's plenty of parking, and semi trucks are in a separate parking lot. There is no gas here! This is just a rest stop! The bathrooms are clean and the vending machines have several options. There's a lovely light house for photo ops too!

Very clean rest stop with a kid's playground, space for pets with poop bags available, picnic tables and room to stretch your legs. Lots of maps and information brochures, all for free. Restrooms were clean.

I was excited to check out my first rest stop. They have a visitors center where you can get information. Unfortunately, they were closed. I was really looking for food, but all they had here were vending machines and a water fountain. At least I got to use the bathroom.

One of the safest and nicest Welcome Centers I've come across. Large areas outdoors for walking and eating, as well as a large play place for kids. Indoors is immaculate with plenty of room to move around, as well as tons of info on things to do in Michigan!

Pretty clean and decent, the truck parking gets full to the max by the evening during the week, it has clean restrooms and a few vending machines, Michigan is pretty nice especially the northern and upper peninsula part of the State as far as scenery and beaches.

This spot has a welcome sign and a light house?! What more could a person want? Okay okay they also have clean bathrooms. A must stop! There seemed to be a lot of information in the welcome center; however, due to covid it was closed. Not many brochures outside either. But overall a great stop if you are someone like me who gets the welcome road signs.

First time reviewing a Rest Area, but why not. Conveniently located just after entering Indiana, it is clean and a quick way to take a break and stretch before merging back onto the interstate highway. Yes, Rest Areas are located pretty much everywhere; and mostly they are convenient and clean, as was the case here. But there certainly are exceptions. Generally they are better than many gas station restrooms; as good as some at fast food restaurants.

I do like getting free road maps, and for those of you younger than old-as-dirt, we used to use these paper maps to get from here to there. Kind of a primitive Google Maps only it worked better. Apparently the State of Wisconsin didn't print new maps for 2024 so I guess the old ones will have to do. This has become a place for homeless people to spend overnight, and I kind of like that they don't roust them in harsh weather but it does mean the place doesn't smell as clean at night. The vending machine coffee is actually better than the gas station and fast food coffee at this exit. Not saying it's good, but the area gas stations and fast food places don't believe in fresh coffee so this is as good as it gets in the afternoon or at night. If you're on a long car trip this is a pleasant area to take a brief walk to relieve lower back pain. There are recycling receptacles though lots of people just put trash into the plastic only and aluminum only bins.

There are some things you don't want to admit but I must say the vending machine coffee here is pretty good - this cute little rest area not only provides clean restrooms and great coffee there are also a few historic markers to read while stretching your legs - there wasn't a lot of traffic here, I don't know if that's normal or just the time of the day but it was quite with no lines...

Apparently Indiana's public health strategy is to spread as much disease as possible so that those who don't get killed off, will then not need clean facilities and basic health care. The few food options here are also poorly operated with clearly underpaid employees and unsanitary conditions. If you absolutely have to stop here, be sure to use industrial quantities of alcohol based hand sanitizer after touching anything to get into and out of this place, front the entrance door to the toilet stalls and back out. Rub your hands, rub your legs, your forearms, anything that even remotely or accidentally touched anything inside this place. Also, don't count on these bathrooms having soap, working faucets, clean sinks, or toilet paper (check before you commit to a toilet or you'll be stuck there without paper - but you should always make your own toilet seat liner out of as much paper as you can safely get out of the dispenser because these toilets are never maintained in a condition of cleanliness nor disinfected properly on a regular enough basis). Clearly neither the government of Indiana nor the bloodsucking, publicly traded billionaire corporations (Starbucks, 7-11, Sbarro etc) that operate in this hellhole care if you and your family live or die, so if you absolutely have to stop here be extremely careful with your hygiene.

Secondly, the hotel itself is gorgeous and our room is very clean and has everything we could need! The pool and hot tub are both extremely relaxing. The breakfast in bed is an amazing experience. You are within easy walking distance to both the beach and downtown, making exploring effortless. For those looking to venture a bit further, the hotel offers convenient bike rentals right on-site. The indoor swimming pool and hot tub are fantastic amenities, particularly because they open up to a lovely outdoor patio where you can sit and relax. There is also a well-equipped fitness room available if you want to keep up with your workout routine. The room itself is incredibly nice, spacious, and filled with thoughtful design choices that show a lot of detail went into the space. Beautiful double doors lead into the bedroom, which features an abundance of closet and drawer space, and the provided plush robes and slippers add a wonderful touch of luxury. The living area is equally impressive, complete with a comfortable couch, ample shelf space, and a kitchen table. There is also a handy little kitchenette equipped with plates, a fridge, and a sink, though it would have been nice to have a microwave included. The bathroom is exceptionally modern and showcases excellent attention to detail. The standout feature is the shower, which boasts a great rain shower head and a handle brilliantly placed right by the door so you don't have to get wet while turning the water on. While there was a slight odor in the bathroom when we first arrived, housekeeping completely resolved the issue after their first visit. We also experienced a small leak from the kitchenette sink when we turned it on, but maintenance came up promptly and fixed it without any hassle. One of the most delightful perks of the stay is the breakfast basket service. You simply fill out the menu--which includes great options for those with dietary restrictions--leave it hanging on your door handle at night, and a fresh breakfast is delivered straight to your room the next day. We also made sure to utilize the on-site spa, which was very nice and offered a fantastic massage experience. We signed up for an 80-minute session, though because we booked online, it wasn't entirely clear if a couples massage was an option. Upon checking in, the front desk graciously made us aware of a minor leak in the changing room and locker area, which we appreciated. Despite these few minor maintenance quirks, the staff was incredibly responsive, and the stunning views, fantastic room layout, and top-tier amenities make this hotel a place we would absolutely return to.
