In echo of other Yelp reviewers, my synopsis of the BBQ meats served by Mickey Pigg's can only be described by one word....DRY; my three meat combo plate of Riblets (gnaw off the bone), Pulled Pork (very lean and very dry with NO offensive material), and Chicken (grilled, semi sliced, boneless breast ) where all overly dry! Each meat did carry a hearty smoked flavor but each bite proceeded to empty the mouth of any remnant of moisture; it was like sucking on a dry sponge! Despite the drowning of each meat with a mixture of the two very tasty tomato based sauces (medium and hot mixed was best to me) the meats remained overly dry in texture (I emptied three glasses of drink in no time flat!). In addition to the meats being dry, they where served barely warm The fries in my two side choice where nicely proportioned, fresh, served HOT, and tasted very good with the seasoned salt on them, but the tiny plastic cup of BBQ beans (the serving size good for a taster only) where barely luke warm and so subtly flavored that most quality store canned versions could beat them. Decorum was very clean and nicely decorated and the staff where extremely friendly and efficient; my drink glass remained full at all times despite my constant draining! In closing, I'll state that Mickey Pigg's meat proportioning is gargantuan (it was a lot of meat) and easily a monetary bargain in comparison to many other establishments (the three meat, two side combo plate was $11.99), but not a culinary delight as very dry meat kills the monetary bargain (major points lost in my book). The two sauces where very good (points awarded) but sadly couldn't overcome the dryness of the meats. Additional points lost for the minuscule bean serving; c'mon guys, beans are cheap! Majority of points awarded for the nice proportion of fresh, tasty fries as well as to the fast and friendly service! Didn't have time to try the deserts. We stopped here on the way home from a NC trip. A 2 star is perfect for this place. I had the pork plate with slaw and brunswick stew. The pork could have had a more smokey flavor and it was a very dry piece of meat. The brunswick stew was the best part of the meal. The worst part of the meal was the cornbread or should I call it cornbread muffin. The only thing it was missing was icing and you could have called it a cake. What is so bad the waitress said it was the best. She must not have been from the south because the best kind of cornbread is without sugar and without and an egg in it. They must be doing something right because by the time I left there was a 45 minute wait to be seated. They do have a bakery on the property but I did not try any of the sweets! read more

I went to Mickey Pigg's BBQ for lunch with a group from work. The service was fast and friendly. They were out of baby backs. I ordered the spare rib lunch special. All I can really give it was a "meh". Most of the meat was quite dry - I had to sauce it hard. The bbq "bark" on the outside was chewy. I was disappointed with the meat. This is the south - we are usually known for our good bbq. I was also disappointed with the fries. I mean, they were served hot and cooked correctly, but they were not fresh cut. One would think that a bbq place could cut their own potatoes and make *fresh* fries. The only thing that saves this from being a 2 star is the dessert. Each of us ordered something for dessert and everyone was blown away. I had the homemade bread pudding with rum sauce. Fan-freaking-tastic. Next time I'll just get dessert. read more

Many reviewers have commented that the pulled pork is dry and I would agree. Even though I covered it in very good BBQ sauce, it still seemed very dry and lacking any natural juices. I don't know if the leave it under the heat lamps too long after chopping it or if they trim too much fat off before cooking. The Brunswick stew also seemed watery and rather tasteless for my preferences. But the service was excellent and friendly right from the beginning - a real family place. And the food was served up very quickly. But I don't think I'll go back. read more

1230 on a Sunday and they are already out of both brisket and wings. So I tried the riblets. They were served at room temperature, dried out and flavorless. "bbq" baked beans were pork'n beans straight from a can with a little bbq sauce added. Wife's Brunswick stew tasted like military rations. French fries were good, hot and crispy. read more

Absolutely horrible BBQ reheated dry ribs won't come off the bone. Owner said they are fresh. They are not. At 6pm on a Friday night you should have fresh juicy fall off the bone ribs. I grew up around the BBQ business in West Texas. This place wouldn't last one day there. We live 5 miles away it's a shame this place has gone this far down hill in a few short years. We found this little gem today and WOW! I cannot believe we have never been here before. We eat BBQ everywhere and this is definitely noteworthy. Head up for s short drive and a fantastic meal after visiting Jaemore Farms, or when heading to Helen via Hwy 365. The Brisket and ribs are spectacular and so is the service! This place is great. We we're antique shopping and found this gem on 365 near Baldwin, Ga. We couldn't resist the aroma coming from the restaurant. We felt welcome right away. The atmosphere is home and the staff were so friendly. Everything is home made and there is a good selection. Prices so reasonable. I had a sampler platter with pork ribs, smoked wings, pulled pork, pulled chicken, garlic toast, baked beans and it was only $9.95! It was delicious. Mark chose the ribs and quarter chicken with Texas toast and potato salad. Only $9.00, so much food for such a small price. Our beverages never got below half full before they were refilled. Neither of us could finish our meals and brought it home. The desserts we're amazing too. We brought home chocolate cupcakes filled with cream, strawberry and lemon cupcakes too. They have many cakes and fresh made pies as well! North Georgia has wonderful restaurants. This is a must if you're driving up to Helen! read more

This is a great barbeque restaurant just by itself. Heck, it makes my mouth water just driving by and smelling the wood smoke! But then you have to add in the bakery with all those incredible cakes and pies. It's hard to choose a single slice, you lie to the waitress, taking home four other slices for "your family" ... when in reality they are all for you! A special service offered during the holidays is that if you bring them a turkey, goose, ham, etc. They will smoke it for you for $10.00. Way delicious ... and you don't have to cook ir yourself. Mickey Piggs BBQ We had a Tweet Up yesterday up at Yonah Mountain Vineyards - on the way home some of us decided to stop at Mickey Piggs and have an early dinner. I have eaten here before and it was always good, this time was no exception. I'm not all that crazy about the brunswick stew (most of the people in our group loved it) but I had some ribs and bbq pork and it was really good. Prices are reasonable, service was good - but one of the big highlights is the selection of homemade deserts - I exercised some discipline and left without anything. Regretted that later. Thought I would give the place a shot, and actually got a family meal which isn't cheap. So let's start with the good. The cole slaw, and baked beans are good. Not the greatest, but good. The meat however is another story. DRIED OUT....We had both Pork and Beef and both meats were completely dry to the touch and taste, basically having to drench the meat in the sauce they provided. I love good BBQ, and this place might be good for desserts and side dishes, but the main dish...the one they base their name on is not good at all. Staff is neutral...Neither friendly nor rude. Not the most comfortable place I've eaten either. As we were leaving and driving past their pickup window, we noticed a sign that said "No add on orders at window". Doesn't seem they really are that much into good customer service. Found that to very inappropriate for a customer service based business. read more

I tried Mickey Pigg's for the first time with a take out order last night. I'm going with 3-stars rather than 2 because I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt on their pulled pork, which was extremely dry (about as bad as I've ever had). I have to believe what I got was not the norm. By itself, I would give the pork I had a 1 out of 5 stars...however, the ribs were very good. Very nicely smoked and meaty, although a little on the dry side themselves. The Brunswick stew was OK - not bad, but bland for my taste and definitely in need of some hot sauce. The baked beans were outstanding - a very unique flavor that I was definitely a fan of. The cornbread was very good - ironically, the problem with corn bread in many places is that it's too try, but unlike their meat, the corn bread was not dry here. The serving size was enormous - unfortunately, given the dryness of the meat, it definitely needed sauce, and they only gave me one tiny container of sauce - about 1/4 of the amount of sauce I would have needed for all the meat in the order. Portions are small for the price. The sides are maybe 2 fl oz. Friend's brisket was sliced, small portion and loaded with fat. The mash potatoes were like soup. This is a great bbq place! If your hungry then you need to visit! The portions of food are huge! I tried the sampler platter, which included ribs, bbq pulled pork, and brunswick stew. The bbq is pretty good but the pulled pork sandwich is as big as your head! No joke! They have an assortment of sauces and all were very tasty! I was very impressed with the ribs because they were cooked perfectly. I wasn't a big fan of the brunswick stew. It was a little on the chunky side for me but still good. Mickey Pigg's is fine, though certainly nothing exceptional. The barbeque is decently flavored and usually moist. The side items are okay, with the best being the french fries (even though they're frozen, not fresh cut). The barbeque beans aren't particularly appealing; they are just canned pork & beans with an unpleasantly strong raw onion and black pepper taste. Entree portions, overall, aren't generous, perhaps in an effort to sell more desserts. The hot sauce is fine, but the sweet sauce is very cloying. It's worth a stop if you're in the area, but I wouldn't say that it's something to go out of your way for. read more

I tried the Riblets ... Husband had his usual pulled pork sandwich and Brunswick stew. Most of the Riblets were dry and tough and devoid of flavor. A real shame because the ones that were not were quite good. Sandwich and stew were delicious as always. We showed incredible restraint and skipped the desserts. Have always enjoyed the desserts. Next time we split the sandwich and stew and save room for DESSERT! Love the sweet tea! Riblets were a 2.5 but were saved by the rest of the meal and just the display of all those incredible cakes:) read more

Mickey Piggs has been my BBQ spot for years. I travel a lot with my job to many states and I can say I'm always excited to come home for a meal for here. The chopped chicken is amazing. Always stop at Mickey Pigg's on our way to and from N. Georgia. It was referred to us by a local woman who works at the nearby produce stand. The food is outstanding and the staff is great. This is not your fast food type of BBQ. The owners have even come by to ask how everything tasted. A unique feature is their assortment of homemade baked goods. Take a moment to check out all the photos and memorabilia on the walls. The whole family must work here. We really like the BBQ sauce and get a jar to go each visit.
