Not good customer service the employees don't know the product and long wait to get help

I had a really grim experience with a god-awful group of cowboys (TryTechy, who wrecked my laptop and charged me a ton of money), so I travelled up to Micro Center on someone's advice as a last resort - and golly am I glad that I did. I've been to this Micro Center a few times now, and they have been absolutely brilliant with my laptop repair etc. You get reliable, great quality work, but also really super service too, and they actually saved me a lot of money too - which they didn't have to do, but they know that this is what creates customer loyalty. For months I have needed to purchase the proper cable for my new Bose TV sound system. My dated television required a cable that includes an adapter. I took both my sound system box and my television with me to Micro Center and I was attended to by two awesome sales techs. Both were so very polite, kind, and helpful. I only have praise for Micro Center employees including those at checkout. Everyone wanted to help me have a successful visit. read more

CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIBLE!!! If I could give this location a negative 5, I would. My brother and I went to this location in order to buy a custom built computer. We were told this place has experts who will give you honest recommendations on how to go about this. We spent almost $5K on a computer that does not allow my G drive to work. They also knew the new RTX 30-90 was out, but still allowed me to buy an inferior product that cost more and was slower. I tried to work with Micro Center staff, and they literally gave me the run around up until the return period expired. After that, they had no interest in helping even after my brother and I have paid this location at least 10 visits over the last 6 months in order to try to get this issue resolved. I spent $5k on a computer that won't allow me to perform the basic function of connecting a hard drive. RUN FOR THE HILLS!!!!! read more

They have an amazing selection but most importantly a staff that is full of knowledge and willing to take a minute and talk to you and explain things or point you in the right direction. My son purchased a computer part for $850 cash. When he went home, he did some research online and realized the item was too big BUT he never opened the package. The next day, we brought back the unopened item with his receipt to return it, and cashier James Wringle said they have a new return policy that he was very vague about. He said he can't give him a cash refund but he had to issue him a check and it will take two weeks for my son to receive it in the mail. He said they can only give up to $300 cash back on ALL returns. When he gave us the return receipt, it had my sons name and address but nowhere on there it does not say how long it will take to get the check or that it is the policy when you pay cash over a certain amount, you will get a check refund. He called his manager Alexis Gonzalez and he co-signed the whole NEW unwritten return policy. When I came home I looked on their website and there is nothing that states this new return policy. Can someone please confirm that this is true. read more

I purchased a what they claimed as a new computer The staff was very nice and cheery yesterday. last night when I arrived home and paid for contractor to line up with my home printer HUG ITSERVICES POINTED OUT Several concerns and pointed out this computer had an user account already loaded outsude of the one he established yet the password was not written on any of the documentation I received from the retailer and there was paperwork from Walmart which is strange since I bought it from Micro Center directly and was told it was a brand new unit not refurbished he also stated the set up tech used the wrong email at outlook see attached Instead of my Gmail account as specified on the document I filled out that purchase in total I spent $738.76 i feel slides still did not receive the services and products I wanted specifically. I also lost money from paying the tech and they could not finish what they came to my property to do because of this, today I'm in the store trying to get a full refund they are giving me the runaround even though I have a receipt and none of this is my issue as the purchaser I just want what I paid for back what was the Manager Adam would this take longer than 20 minutes I've been here over 35 and he has not returned back Again this seems unethical and not considerate of my time , The $250 that I paid to the other company,and money spent patronizing the Retailer they were not forth coming with the return for all items purchased 24 hours ago they sold and was paid extra for set up Luckily Manager Alexis came and accepted all or the error and stated he will process in two separate transactions, To lessen sour feelings. again all employees were kind in nature it's just the unnecessary run around over a Microsoft key improperly installed by their tech support the retail was paid to installl by me the customer should never be my problem Therefore at least this was addressed prior to me leaving the store I wrote this review while in the store just for accuracy read more

I dropped my computer off for the power jack to be repaired. They weren't able to do it for a price that made sense, given the value of the computer. I agreed they would pull the data off it instead. They then told me I needed my microsoft key. It took me some time and effort, but I found my microsoft user name and password. However, I couldn't find the key. I called them and asked them to walk me through the process, and they said I had to come in. Each time I communicated with them throughout, they failed to timely, if at all, respond to phone calls, emails, and texts, and I had to contact them repeatedly to get any information. So I will have to go in, which is not convenient. They told me they do not make appointments, and that I need to come in and wait in line to be seen. I will never use them again. read more

Cheaters!!! Very bad experience. I am extremely disappointed. I came there today and took my screen card (MSI 3070) which I recently bought sealed. Unfortunately I unboxed the item and even thought fans and lights working, it does not show anything on screen. Exactly like that I explained to Micro Center service center representative and told him if it is possible, I want to fix it. He charged me $39.99 right away and told me we will check it first and it will take maximum 20 minutes. (I wait almost 1 hour 30 minutes) Then guy who was testing it (bold white guy 40-45 years old) came. Imagine what he told me.. : man, I am bored to test it, it does not show anything on screen. There is nothing what we can do. (It is your job, man!!! You can not tell to customer that you bored to test customer's item for what you already charged money) Wtf?! I told him: sir, when I came I already told you that. So, can you fix it? He said no, we do not fix screen cards! - so why you charged me $39.99 in that case? - man, I don't wanna argue with you... WTF???? I really can not find words.. if you (Micro Center) don't know how to fix it, tell me from beginning and do not waste my time and money. It means they cheat me, charged $39.99 (I have receipt), did not fix anything and as result told me what I have already know. It was my first experience visiting Micro Center. Bad service my dad went to buy a television and when we took it out of the box it was broken and we took it back to the store to see if they would change us but they told us they couldn't they took the television and the receipt and they didn't give them. the tv cost him 400 and they didn't want to return the money and they also didn't want to exchange it for another tv. Worst place to ask for a repair, they hold the product for weeks they never call, text or email for an update, and when you call, the person in charge is always off for the day, nobody answers the questions and when you ask for a refund for the service they never provided they reply right away giving you a ridiculous quote to not refund the fee, I guess they charge you to hold your device for no reason, save yourself the pain and look for a different place to repair your device read more

Love this place! I recently took my dead laptop there to see if they could recover any data from it (BTW: Thanks Norton for not actually backing things like you say you did...but that's another review). The techs I spoke to were knowledgeable and efficient -- and super-quick. If I had a question, the tech working on my machine responded so fast - even at night and his days off (to the point where I felt bad for taking up time on his day off). The price was reasonable and they didn't make me feel like an idiot for not knowing how to talk the tech language and for asking them to fix a 10-year old laptop by a manufacturer that doesn't even make laptops anymore (Sony). Absolutely terrible, nobody could assist me for an hour. This is not my first visit to this store. I've had good experiences here before but that was always because I could somehow find what I was looking for among all the mess. I came in today looking for a very important computer part. The first thing I did was walk straight all the way to the help service desk at the very back, and showed the associate an image of the exact MOSFET that I need. She simply sent me to the DIY area, the "do it yourself" component department where one can find transistors, resistors, capacitors, diodes, microchips and other semiconductors etc. Things were generally in their place but I could not locate exactly where the MOSFETS were kept (stands for Metal-Oxide Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor). I stopped a passing senior associate, who then kindly got a nice young woman to help me. Let me say that this employee was professional, kind, friendly and very helpful. It simply was not her specialty to locate exactly what I was looking for. She went to the computer to look up MOSFET but then all that she could do was tell me that it would be in the DIY parts area. Basically I was back at square one. I kept looking regardless. Everything was in disorder, nothing was organized enough for me to even get close to beginning to find what I needed. I told her that I would need to see someone who knows this department and who is specifically familiar with these parts. She said she would get someone. Half an hour later nobody appeared, and I couldn't get the attention of anyone else to help me. I accidentally left my laptop charger at the Reston office and I wasn't interesting in driving down there and dealing with traffic. Went to Best Buy but they didn't have the right charger. They suggested Micro Center and they did indeed have it. Lots of parking. Easy to get to. It was difficult to get someone to help me which is why a few stars are knocked off. I couldn't find the right charger so I asked for help and someone was paged to come help me. No one came so I had to ask again and another person was paged and then they finally came to help me. The sales rep was knowledgeable and even did a test run to make sure it worked. Store is clean and organized. Everyone was nice but a little more attention is needed to to customers requiring help. read more

Although I love the products and service I get at this particular location, I am saddened to write this review. Today while returning an item, I overheard the store manager denying a medical practitioner the first responder discount. I found this disturbing. Anyone that is in the medical field should be considered first responder. I walked over, after their exchange and seeing the first responder leaving upset, and asked why. He said "I only consider firefighters, police officers, something else frontline workers. He didn't fall into any of those.". I can't remember what the third profession was, but it excluded a lot of medical workers like this gentleman. If this bothers you, that not everyone in the medical field is a Frontline worker, please say something. read more

I needed an AIO cooler replacement for my workstation tower, and the outstanding service and professionalism that I received from Mr. Dixon (BYOPC) and Mr. Gutierrez (Service Technician) were phenomenal! In addition to being highly knowledgeable, Mr. Dixon and Mr. Gutierrez were excellent in demonstrating the actual value-added benefits of each choice under consideration. The 45 - 60 minute drive is absolutely worth it to have this type of high-performance service. As a former Technical Director in the DoD, I'm very aware of what it takes to build, field, and sustain high-performing teams. I love this place. I really do. I'm closer to their Fairfax location so they are more convenient for me and I go there more often. So my son had a laptop going bad and this particular location has the laptop I wanted to get for him. As it's already mentioned, be careful with some salesmen here. I asked for help to what soon was revealed to be the sales manager on the floor and he just looked at me and turned back around to talk to someone else. About 10 minutes later standing literally.....5 feet from them, someone finally came over and asked to see if I needed help. After we got what I needed, he flagged the person who clearly dismissed me and this dude took 5 steps, thanked me for coming and to see if the sales person who helped me was actually helpful. Now this is easier said than done, but if this place didn't carry what I needed at the time, I probably would have told this dude off. That laptop manager was of no help. read more

This is my go to store to buy computer related equipment. They sell really cheap gigabit routers and switches. I paid under $30 for each and they are working well after six months of heavy use. It's the only store I've found that carry NAS devices - great to have at home. They also carry cheap ethernet cables as well. My only complaint is the check out lines are long, and they usually only have two cashiers working at a time. read more

First of all the Parkville store is the outlier in this. I've been to a New Jersey store and the Rockville store only to be met with the same experience. Parkville is solid as can be. good contact with the people working in BYO made it nice when scalpers were buying up all of the 30 series inventory because they helped a small group of people I associate with get cards out to people for gaming instead of dealing with "resellers". They have been more than friendly/helpful with everything and the would give them a solid 5 stars. Rockville gets 2 at best. The personnel there is obviously only looking to make a sale and move on. The customer service is passé and, relaying from other customers, their tech support is lackluster a best. I've had people go to the Parkville store with the same issues and had them resolved there. read more

When a person is wrong - it is expected that we stand up and take account for our choices. Initially, I gave MicroCenter a one star (based on the essential foundation that I thought I had been lied to). To their great credit, this assumption was proved false today. I arrived just prior to opening and, as the store manager's call to my cell indicated, the PS4 that I had requested was made available to me as soon as the doors opened. This now marks the SECOND time that a high demand consumer product was ultimately procured via this location. Though the process was perhaps a little less elegantly executed than desired, I cannot in good faith fault MicroCenter too much. Have they lost me as a customer? No - redemption is indeed a lofty goal and MicroCenter has delivered yet again. read more

No integrity. They tricked my 76 year old mother in law into buying a new computer, subscribing to Microsoft365, and then paying for all of the labor to install and set up. She brought in her (not very old) laptop to inquire about a broken hinge and was told she should just buy a new one, then after she explained that she uses Open Office for free, the salesperson told her she needed to subscribe to Microsoft365 to use it going forward. If you buy M365 from Microsoft it comes with a 30 days trial, but they sold it and charged for the install outright. When I made them aware of these issues, the manager Brian Kimble was not sympathetic, unapologetic, and unhelpful even complaining about some dust on the computer she was returning. It got to the point where my mother-in-law got very upset and told him she would wipe off the dust right there in store so he didn't have to. In the end they refused to allow refunds for any labor, including on the installation of the M365 subscription she returned. The deception, rudeness, and lack of accountability are egregious and appalling. I cannot believe a business would take advantage of and treat senior citizens who are not savvy so poorly. Take your business elsewhere. I'll be leaving a report with the Better Business Bureau as well. read more

I give it a one star because I can go lower I but a Brand new motherboard for my pc and don't have the time to set up so I brought it in to them to see if they can do it they charge me for the diagnostic and come ti come back to tell me that my motherboard is broken need a new one they check and try to mess with the setting but it was not working but I get my pc back and ask my friend to help and my motherboard works and I'm never going back to there Worst experience I have ever have read more

For this area, it is tough to find a place better stocked with computer items than Micro center. They have a lot of items that you cannot find at a best buy or walmart or something. It might not be the cheapest, but being able to see component hardware (especially computer cases, motherboards, case fans, etc.) in person is something I really like. If you really like modding or souping up your computer, this is a good place to go. They do have a lot of items also that are on sale or clearance often. For example, each time I go there are hard drives, monitors, and computer cases for sale. I cannot say that their service is great, but if you know what you're looking for, then this is a great place to go. read more

The Rockville location of MicroCenter is very well organized, with a staff that is helpful and can communicate well. I went in on a Sunday right when they open. I had to wait my turn for a few minutes, but once they were able to get to me, they answered my questions intelligently, and had exactly what I was looking for. I can only speak for myself. If you are buying dongles, cables and assorted peripherals, MicroCenter is your place. DON'T buy any computer that is critical to your work or depend on MicroCenter to repair it if parts go bad. The latest instance is a laptop I have had for NINE months and the keyboard went bad. I couldn't log into the laptop, the left shift key or "t" key would execute the Enter function before I even finished entering the password. After 12 days, I get a text from MicroCenter saying they couldn't get a keyboard replacement from HP, so I am stuck with a laptop unusable for my purposes, and NO I don't want to plug in and SHOULDN'T have to plug in a USB or wireless keyboard. This is the second time I have sent a laptop in for repair to have technicians shrug when they charge you for diagnostics even though you know what's the problem, then they can not get the parts to repair. read more

What a terrible store. I sent in an online request to have my HP Officejet 250 All in One printer repaired with a complete description of the problem. I received an email to bring it in, and drove from Annapolis, MD to Rockville to drop it off. When I arrived, I was told they don't work on printers and that the email I received was from an automated system and that no human had read what I wrote, at their request, about the problem I was having. The manager told me there was nothing the store could do for me, and was flippant about the time and expense the store had cost me. Given that the store had instructed me to bring the printer in, I asked him to sell me a new printer at a discount. He refused. Too bad; it's a cool store; like Frye on the West Coast. Having this experience, I would never purchase anything from a Micro Center store. Terrible customer service, arrogant and refused to take responsibility for their error, simply blaming it on their automated system. Wish I would have known beforehand. They need customer service training and to ditch their automated repair request system. read more

I also observed, he was very helpful in assisting other customers. At the register Austin Cheng was very helpful and he explained the benefits of getting a warranty.. So I did. A geeks mecca in all the shopping in Rockville. This store has a massive selection of electronics and tech gear. Most of the staff is well versed in all things tech and are able to assist me to find the right solution to my needs. Checkout can be a bear tho - given the long lines often times. Parking too is a pain due to other stores in the plaza. read more

They clearly do a lot of business, apparently in new hardware. Maybe they have great prices on monitors, etc. The only reason I went there is because they are listed as a certified third party Mac repair location, of which there are not a large number. And my service experience is what I'm reviewing. Which was hilariously abysmal. First, they use an electronic gatekeeping system that makes it basically impossible to communicate with a human being. Even after you've placed your order. No phone numbers. No direct emails. Got a question? Use the website's "leave a message" feature. After dropping my Mac off and not hearing from anybody for SIXTEEN DAYS I decide to use that feature and ask them WTF was wrong with them. Two days later I got an automated message from Micro Center Central Command that didn't say much. In that message I was finally provided with the super secret phone number (301-692-2130 . . . you're welcome). I called. The person who answered was highly defensive and told me that my wait time was super normal and reasonable. He also said that the person who was supposed to look at my Mac was going to do so the following day, what a coincidence. The guy called me the next day. He told me he looked at it. And he told me that he couldn't find anything wrong. Perfect working condition! He just couldn't figure out what the problem could have been. My problem was that it turned itself off after less than five minutes of powering up. The Apple Store Genius Bar had run comprehensive diagnostics and told me the logic board was bad. This turning-itself-off thing had been going on for a long, time. It did it every time. It did that when I dropped it off at Micro Center. It did that when I picked it up from Micro Center. There is no miracle of nature that would have prevented it from happening while in the custody of Micro Center. There's simply no way he could have failed to notice the glariingly obvious problem if he'd actually bothered to test it. Which leaves me convinced that this Mac repair person was simply lying to me, and that Micro Center just took my money for no service provided. The only appropriate reaction was to pick it up from those clowns and take it somewhere else. I chatted with another person in line at the service counter, who was also waiting a long time. Turns out she was also there to pick up a Mac to take it somewhere else, since Micro Center had been a total waste of her time too. I hate to fixate solely on the negatives. But--having no positives to report in my actual experience with this corporation--all I can positively contribute is a forward-looking suggestion for improvement in the future. In that vein, I would actually endorse that the federal government nationalize this company and give its repair operations over to the various state Motor Vehicle Administrations. This change of management would vastly improve processing times and quality of customer service. But, before that happens, you should go to Experimax in Bethesda. Those guys are vastly better at what Micro Center pretends to do. read more
