Microclimate [a wine bar] was one of the major highlights of Charley and I's trip to Geneva, NY. James-Emery Elkin and Stephanie Mira de Orduna were nothing less than the perfect owners for this new business. The space is very intimate and easy to move around. Unlike many places where you have to trip over every table and chair in the room just to move around, they did a nice job using the space they have to work with on 38 Linden. My girlfriend and I are by no means expert wine drinkers but we do like to use some discrimination concerning wine. It was very obvious from the start that Stephanie is very well versed in wine and has a solid background in the industry. What's best though is that she is able to take that knowledge and share it in a very nice and friendly way. Her business partner James was incredibly welcoming as well and made the entire time there fun and relaxed. These two really have the dynamic to take this place and build a great wine bar destination in Geneva. If ever I am in Geneva again I will make sure to carve out some time to stop in and see these two while enjoying the product and experience they bring to the table. What was great as well was that when asked where else in town my date and I could stop for food or drinks, Stephanie was quick to give recommendations and show her support of other small businesses in town. Everything to review about Microclimate is awesome - truly the best. Amazing selection of wines, that always include recommendations about the Finger Lakes Region's best wines. And go a few times, ask nicely and you just might get t try the latest special treasure they procured and have in small batches. If you are looking for a trendy spot that has great service, an amazing ambiance and outstanding wine selection then look no further. One might think that to find a place like this it would have to be in a large city, that is not the case, the small town of Geneva is the home of the chic wine bar. What makes this place even better is the owner James. He is so knowledgeable and spent time going over each of wines in the flights we ordered. I have never met an owner of an establishment that was as passionate about what they were doing as James. Moved to Geneva about a year ago. My fiancé was working out of town, so I had some time to look for interesting places near our apartment. This place popped up. The next time he was home I told him we should try it, as we both love wine. The first time there we met James and were there most of the night. We had a lot of fun that night. Later we came back and Steph was working. Both have given us great experiences and enjoy the company. We have become frequents, and enjoy the company of many who wonder in. Prices are not bad, can spend a great deal quickly if your not paying attention though. Steph is always good for a recommendation. read more

We had had a big lunch and were looking for a place to have an appetizer and a glass of wine. Boy, did we hit the jackpot. The wine list is extremely thoughtful and filled with interesting and delicious choices. The cheese plate was magnificent. And then we happened in on the first Thursday of the month, when an excellent swingy jazz group was playing. Great place for experiencing some good Wines, not just local crap, but also wines from other places. Very nice selection. Very knowledgeable owners who know how to serve and keep you interested. I would give 5 but few times they have been so busy that our orders for charcuterie plate was just forgotten (read: ignored). I wish they had more small plates / appetizers because for sure they could sell them and make you stay even longer, shouldn't be that difficult to organize. Nevertheless, I wish them luck, and I am sure they will be around for a long time. Very fun place to start your evening ...... but plan on having your meal elsewhere. read more

This was a fantastic surprise that capped a wonderful weekend in the Finger Lakes. Finding somewhere nice to hang out on a Sunday night in the Finger Lakes is very difficult, so we went to Microclimate because they were open until 10 pm. We were so happy we did. The space is beautiful,with exposed brick walls, modern furniture and light fixtures that create a very inviting and cool atmosphere. The owner, Stephanie, was very friendly and shared her knowledge while providing samples and recommendations. I learned that I don't like true Pinot Noir (but Pinot Noir blends) and learned some interesting facts about New Zealand and Canada, where Stephanie has lived. We enjoyed some Pinot Noir from South Germany, some exceptional Cabernet from California, a great Malbec and some dry Rosé Champagne. Although the Finger Lakes are filled with so many wineries and tasting rooms, this is truly a special establishment and encourage all of you to experience it for yourselves. read more

My husband and I were in Geneva for the weekend from DC to visit his family. My husband works at a small wine shop and we both enjoy trying new and different wines, in particular at wine bars where you can sample by the glass. Microclimate was as good or better of an experience as you would get in a big city like DC or NY, and much more reasonably priced. Stephanie was wonderful to us, extremely knowledgable, friendly and attentive . After our first glass, we gave her a brief idea of what we liked and didn't and left the rest of our choices in her hands. She brought us selections that we would likely have never chosen or even heard of, but they were delicious and unique. A wine from Mallorca, Spain stands out as so unique, full and wonderful. They also had a great looking beer selection, although we chose to only have wine. Make sure you visit Microclimate if you are in the Geneva area, even if you do not think you enjoy wine, they have such a great, interesting variety and helpful people that will make sure you find something you enjoy! read more
