The issues included non-functioning switches (fireplace, Venmar air exchange system, bathroom), a new fan and fire alarm needing installation, and several appliances and tools that failed at the same time. I clearly explained these concerns when the appointment was set. The technician (Scott from A1) arrived about 30 minutes earlier than scheduled, before I was home. My wife was there, but the scope of the visit had already been documented with the warranty company. During the visit, only one issue was addressed--a worn bathroom switch, which was replaced quickly. The other requested items (fan installation, fire alarm installation, and diagnosis of the fireplace and air exchange system) were not completed or meaningfully evaluated. The technician then left before I arrived. The report submitted to the warranty company indicated that no further work was needed. As a result, the primary issues that prompted the service call remain unresolved, and I no longer have a clear path through the warranty provider to have them addressed. If you're using a home warranty service for multiple or complex electrical issues, I would recommend confirming in advance that the technician has reviewed the full scope of work and will stay to complete or properly diagnose each item.

He will work with you and make reasonable and good suggestions. Third, he will save you money. Lots and lots of money. We had an old water heater that went out, which was a real problem because we have baseboard heat. So, we really needed a water heater. We had a quote from our heating company and Dave said he could beat the quote. He got us a continual hot water heater, installed, for about $4K less than what we had been quoted. Work was top notch. We have hired Dave for several projects, not the least of which was replacing the hot water heater. A major project was renovating our garage. His work was great but a lot of it was during the winter, which meant that there were a number of people who were calling about heaters and issues with their house affected by the cold. When we needed a hot water heater, our work went to the top of the list. When it's January and some of the garage needs to be finished, work for others that is really important in the Alaska winter (like water heaters and other issues) went to the top of the list. I suppose I could bitch about that but I also recognize that the time line of my garage being finished isn't a matter of life and death. Fixing someone's heat or hot water or other matters can be life or death in an Alaska winter. I figure it's better to have a really competent handy man with a conscience than making sure my garage is his A#1 priority. So when his timeline for finishing our garage gets delayed because he's fixing the heat on an elderly couple's house, I don't worry. All in all, Dave's done excellent work. He's also been completely up front and 100% honest and done a great job. I've recommended him to friends of ours who are older and need real help because I know he will do a competent job and be honest about his services. That is, I know he will do a good job and I don't have to worry about him overcharging them. My wife and I are already discussing our next projects with him.
