My experience: My parents AppleTV needed restored(due to botched update, probably) during Christmas break which required a microusb cable and a little patience. I went in and got a condescending attitude "this is for the network, you plug it into your network" and "there isn't usb on the back" (which is completely incorrect.) I understand that often times the majority of your customer base doesn't know computer from potato, but I came in FOR A CABLE FFS. (Luckily, down the street was a Walgreens and they had an assortment of microusb cables (which allowed me to fix the problem with minimal effort.) If you're touting yourselves as Apple Specialists that have been in the business for 30 years, you may want to update your practices and experiences those 3 decades to the current day knowledge that your customers deserve. Again, thanks for nothing micropower. You are out of touch and irrelevant and may want to consider changing your name to nanopower or picopower. read more

I have been there with my 1st Mac...spilled liquid on it and they transfrred info to a new Mac. Then my new Mac was not running right. Took it in and they called and said it was ready.I was using it outside on my patio and it had sucked up a lots dirt, dust and debris. They fixed me up. Tomorrow my iPad goes in to get battery checked. The Apple help line remoted into my iPad and couldn't find the problem. She made the appointment fo with Micropower! Happy Apple owner! read more

I took my 2009 macbook in to have the bottom case replaced under the factory replacement program. And said while you have it, could somebody tell me how much it would be to replace the keyboard? ( the backslash key doesn't work). I was told I had to put down a $50 deposit but would get it back no matter what. Well a week later I get a call saying that it is not in warranty, the battery is bad, the keyboard is bad, and its not worth fixing. I told them to forget about it and I will come get it. I only needed the bottom replaced, not the whole damn thing. So I go and get it, they didn't even put all the damn screws back in the bottom. But they didnt even fix anything, so why did they open it, and why didnt they put it all back like they found it. It cost me $50 for them to tell me a new computer is better, the battery failed apple diagnostics (I know that, I'm the one that replaced the battery), and to not even get all the parts back without having to go back and ask for them. Major mistake for me to go there, and I can assure you, it will never happen again. read more

This company has provided me with some of the worst customer service I have ever received in my entire life. I have had issues with them not once, not twice, but three times. Generally I am a huge advocate for shopping local, however I ask that you avoid this business at all costs. They are rude, condiscending, and downright inept when it comes to handling your equipment. Please RUN, don't walk, to your nearest Best Buy, Apple retailer, or apple.com to purchase any equipment you might possibly consider buying at this horrible store. Buying an Apple product is an investment, and they do not value their customers or their hard earned dollars. Please avoid at all costs. UPDATE: After calling apple directly I was told that I could take in my product and have it serviced for free. They were all too apologetic about the experience that I had at this store and I was able to send my experience to their customer service department. Additionally, when I dropped my computer off at the Galleria Apple Store in St. Louis I was told that this would have been under warrentee no matter what, but if I was to be charged, it would have be $690 out of my pocket. This is compared to the quote of $1200 I was given at Micropower. I cannot imagine what would cause a nearly 100% markup in repair services, but again, this just proves that this store and apparently it's owner, are in business to fraudulently take advantage of customers who do not realize they have other options available to them that could save them significant money. read more

Well, where to start... #1. I needed to get the battery in my iPod touch replaced. I figured I didn't want to mess around and that the local Apple dealer would be a good place to go. They didn't have a battery in stock (odd), so took my name to call me when it came in. A week later with no call I called them. They said they had been sent the wrong part and would call me back, which they did. All in all it took over two weeks. I'm glad I didn't bring it in to sit in the mean time. #2. Our Mac was fried by lightning and we were interested in gettin the new one there to keep our money local. I'm not a millionaire, and we weren't looking to get something for nothing, but the person that spoke to my husband was rude when asked about if there was any possibility of a deal. The dude basically told him that so what the way you can buy it direct from Apple (he had asked about switching the mouse for a track pad), and no deal on a discount on the Apple care either. He remarked that they didn't have enough profit margin to deal with anyone. Really? Well that nearly 2 grand sale went elsewhere. Then they got NO profit! Way to go! read more

I got sent here by AppleCare when my hard drive crashed on my MacBook Pro. I had a very different experience than most of the people leaving comments here. The staff at MCS got a new hard drive from Apple quickly, recovered all of my data, and got my computer back to me within 4 business days. Almost everyone I dealt with was pleasant and professional. This is only 4 stars instead of 5 because the store was not great at calling and providing me with updates. Twice I learned new information only because I called them and asked. I'd suggest they think about how helpless and on edge someone who has lost their hard drive can be and work on slightly better communication, but I was overall extremely happy with the service I received there. I would use them again, and I would recommend them to others. read more

Absolutely the worst customer service imaginable. I have dealt with them on-and-off for several years, and every time I vow that it will be the last. They say they will call, they never do. The simplest of diagnostics take days, and then more days to complete a repair. It would literally be easier and a better use of my time to drive my mac to St. Louis for service that leave it with MicroPower, which I what I plan on doing from now on. After going to Micropower for service to my IMac, I would like to give an updated review of this place of business. They were unable to find the issue that I am having with my IMac and told me over the phone that there would be a diagnostic fee for trying to find the issue with my system which I was not comfortable paying since I had AppleCare on my system so, I contacted Apple and got them to wave the fee for me. Thanks Apple! I understand that not all issues can be replicated However, I am very disappointed in Micropower as a business, I am a disabled individual who uses a wheelchair so accessibility is something that is very important to me and I am afraid that this business is far from accessible. There is a step to get into the front of the building with no ramp to the main entrance. The only way for an individual in a wheelchair to get into the building is through their "Accessible entrance" door in the back alleyway. This door has a bunch of graffiti on it and has no indication that it is an accessible entrance. This door was locked when we tried to use it which is against code, if it is an entrance to a place of business it should be unlocked during the hours of operation. I am not writing this to harm anyone, I am doing this so others do not have to go through the same thing that I went through with this place. read more

I am so pleased. It beats all the wasted hours on the phone. There is a good reason Apple recommends them. Not a lot of chit chat about things I don't need to know. Simple, professional and knowledgeable. I left satisfied and feel that I did get the best outcome for my issue. I will return if needed would recommend their service to others. read more

The younger gentleman was pleasant, that was the only positive part of my experience, but I also overheard him saying he had to leave for any interview, so good for him! I came in with a broken computer Mac (due to liquid being spilt on it) basically I asked to see if anything could be recovered, an older man came back with a sheet of prices for new computers saying I needed a new one. He did not seem friendly and basically came at me trying to charge me a bunch of fees. I asked if the information on the computer could be recovered and they said they would have to let it dry, and have the tech look at it and find out. I asked when tech would be in to fix it and they said he may not even be here until tomorrow, they had no idea because he "comes and goes when he wants." That is when I started to get unhappy about their services. If you can't tell me when my computer will be looked at, that's unprofessional, why would I leave you my computer if you don't give me an estimate of when it will be simply looked at. They then failed to mention until I was about to walk out that regardless of the outcome of the diagnostics, if it was recoverable or not, it was $50, which they implied that I didn't have to pay unless the information was transferable. Now I understand the cost to run diagnostics, but the fact that they were never going to mention it to me until after I left and charge me later, that is not how you do business. They also tried to charge me $60 for a transfer fee (understandable but steep) to a new computer, but they wanted $60 for a set up fee. I asked how that was any different from buying from Best Buy and taking it home and setting up yourself, and they said that all they do is add programs you want, help you set up your Apple ID and your email accounts. Now I'm not completely tech savvy, but I surely know how to set up email and Apple ID, so no I do not need the set up fee that you are requiring that I could do on my own. I said I wasn't going to pay for a set up fee regardless or buy a new computer until they figured out if it was recoverable and they said there was no way they could do it unless I bought a new computer. Basically trying to force me to buy a new one. The younger gentleman mentioned they could hook it up to something else to see if it was recoverable. When I said that I wasn't interested in buying a new one right now, the older guy tried to sell me apple care. For what computer? I don't know how they are in business. They may know what they're doing technically, but they are unprofessional and also money hungry trying to force products on me. when I said I wasn't interested in their services any longer, they told me I had to wait to have the computer dried out. I said if it is dead (which it was) and you are going to charge me $50 for a diagnostics test on a broken computer, I just would like to get my computer and leave because it was no longer worth it, and they were not taking my no thank you for an answer and kept pushing me to buy a new computer and pay $170 for diagnostics and set up(pointless) and transfer fee. If you're willing to spend a bunch of money on something you're not guaranteed, or even necessary this is the place for you! I tried to give a local company my business, but I'd much rather go to Best Buy or buy directly from Apple for a new computer if this is how they think they're going to make their money by charging for pointless services and pushing it so much to make you think there are no other options. read more

I received very bad customer service. I brought in a laptop that I suspected was infected with viruses and wouldn't connect to any wifi. When showing them the issue, they said that the screen was loading very slowly while booting and said it needed to be replaced. I agreed and about $250 and several days later it came back. The 'new screen' completely failed after just a few days so I brought it back in. (*NOTE: I should always ask to get all failed parts just like an auto repair shop... I now doubt that they actually replaced anything). They messed around with it for a few weeks and then claimed that I needed a new motherboard. During that time they never called me ... I always had to contact them. I eventually lost patience and picked it up unfixed. Brought it to a local competitor that had the 'new screen' tested (it failed) and replaced in UNDER one day for $160. I feel defrauded and will NOT be going back to Micropower. read more

The first time I took my Macbook Pro there to have the battery replaced, they did a fine job. It took forever, but the job was done correctly. This last time I took it there to have something removed and a hinged tightented (screen is loose), it took four days, and when I went to pick it up, I am glad I checked it over... the program was still there. I waited there while it took fifteen minutes to remove, then left angrily. When I got home I realized the screen is still loose... what did I pay for? read more

The only apple certified place in Springfield IL is the last place on earth you would want to take your Apple computer. My mother took her 2 year old macbook in for service at Micropower, it was shutting down randomly. They said they would take a look at it and contact them in the morning. When coming in to pick it up they charged her over $60 to tell her that the "Logic-board is bad". I then told her to send me the macbook and i will do the work needed as Micropower was going to charge $600+ for a $249 logic-board. I got the macbook and let it run the needed updates by clicking the Apple then "Software Update" her computer was fixed, it costed NOTHING to fix it. Micropower was guessing. They did not even preform the most basic task to see if the computer was updated, all they had to do was click "Software Update". As a tech myself i know this is the first thing you must do on most all computers (most being Apple and Windows), if Micropower would have taken two seconds to see if the computer had all it's updates they would have had a long term customer and a great review. I can only speculate why they would not do this and why they would want to charge more money for something that was not broken... Don't take your Apple to Micropower. read more
