Woah woah woah. Besides this being a charming, authentic Italian grocery store, it has some of the best pizza I've ever had. I was searching for a slice this afternoon and immediately knew my target when I saw a photo of the pillowy Sicilian pizza here. It was even better than it looked, and it looked great. The crust tastes like a fresh baked focaccia, the sauce has a lush flavor (the sauce was the star of the pizza if I had to choose), and the cheese was a substantial herb-topped layer without being heavy. It's also approximately 9 for a large "slab" that could easily be split for lunch. This is also some of the only pizza I've ever had that is similar to the Sicilian slices I had growing up in Cambridge and going to Armando's (for any Bostonians that may know!) so it had a nostalgic element for me. I've been to Micucci dozens of times, but today I'm actually here because we just tried their pizza (it's usually sold out by the time we get there!), and wow wow wowww. I'm drooling just thinking about it all over again. It was like taking a bite out of a fluffy cloud. One slice (a little under $10) is big enough to feed two hungry folks, or three if you're not that hungry. Other than the pizza, I'll take this opportunity to express my love and appreciation for Micucci. This Italian grocery store is as mom-and-pop as it gets, and the vibes, products, and prices show it! Their selection is so impressive; everything from oils to pasta to wines, and even a deli with all the best cheeses and meats (best guanciale in town!!!). I just love this place! read more

Micucci'z pizza has been on my radar to try for awhile. Its a Sicilian style pizza. Unfortunately, it completely misses the mark for me because of execution. The pizza was fairly tasty and the crust is light and fluffy, but the dough/under carriage was uncooked and could have benefits for another 3 -5 mins (at least) in the oven. Due to the doneness, it was akin to undercooked pull-a-part bread. It was so messy that I couldn't pick it up, which resulted in a horrible eating experience. The store itself brings back nostalgic vibes and has tons of italian items, which I like and appreciate. The woman who worked the register was so nice. WHAT, a quaint little Italian store with a fantastic pizza oven in the back that produces excellent Sicilian pizza? It's almost like you have to search through the rear of the store then give a secret code word or secret handshake to get to this little gem. I'd heard others rave about Micucci's pizza when I lived in Portland but crazily never made it until now. I grabbed a cheese slice on a rainy Saturday and wish I had grabbed 2 or 3. The pizza dough is so incredibly fluffy and I love the sauce that they use. The market itself is cute too and perfect for grabbing your grocery needs. Add this spot to your "things to do in Portland". My wife and I went before a ferry ride to the islands to pick up a Sicilian Slab, some olives, and taralli. This place is legit! They even carry Kimbo coffee, my favorite (straight out of Napoli)! Our tour of the islands in Casco bay was made so wonderful thanks to the pizza and snacks! This was the best Sicilian style pizza I've had outside of Italy! read more

Best kept secret in Portland. Micucci Grocery is an awesome little Italian grocery store with tons of specialty items and treats. This being said, take my word and head to the back counter alllll the way in the back of the shop for the best slab of pizza you'll ever have. Be warned - there's often a line around lunch time and you have to hit it just right, but if you're willing to wait you WILL be rewarded! The slabs are HUGE and are so incredibly cheesy. They're truly what dreams are made of. My husband and I were eating ours on a bench across the street and were stopped by many people begging to know where we got them from. The hype is real!! Today I happened to get to Micucci right around noon--and the line for the 12:15pm pizza drop was already forming. So I decided today was the day. While I waited I sampled some things from a new line of Sicilian products, Bona Furtuna (lovely biscotti, plus pasta, tapenades, sauce, and much more). Then the pizza came hot out of the oven, and I got my "slice" of pepperoni--mind you, a slice could easily feed 2 or 3! It's easy to see why this is such a favorite: tangy tomato sauce and cheese and pepperoni and a yummy, pillowy thick crust. (I'm normally a thin-crust pizza gal, but I'm happy to make an exception for this.) I love Micucci's for all things Italian and the fact that they have a parking lot. They do a great job of curating the best selection of pasta, wine, cheese and ingredients to make all things Italian at home. I typically purchase 10lb bags of 00 flour to make Neapolitan pizza dough to cook in the Ooni. Unfortunately they've been out of stock the last 3x I've stopped by. I end up purchasing 5 2.2lb bags for marginally more money. Don't forget your reusable bags, but if you buy more than expected, like I do, they will let you bring the basket out to your car to unload as long as you bring it back. That's good service! I have never purchased anything from the meat/cheese counter but I'd imagine I'd definitely blow the budget. There is always a lot of people waiting around the counter so I get intimidated and say "next time". Someday soon I will load up on high quality pizza toppings. I can't forget the amazing European holiday chocolates and other desserts they sell, that you can't find anywhere else. Much cheaper than flying across the pond to a European Christmas market and way better than ordering online. Needless to say, I will be back and you should go! read more

They also happen to serve up some of the best Sicilian pizza by the slice I've ever experienced. The Sicilian pizza is incredibly fluffy with a light, airy dough. The sauce is delicious and sweet, plus it's applied at the perfect sauce-to-cheese ratio. The oregano and spices sprinkled on top of the perfectly melted cheese complete the perfect Sicilian package. Great Italian market. Made a special trip here while on vacation and it was worth it. Great wine selection and some really nice wines on sale. Bought a cannoli and some cheese. Haven't tried them yet but I'm sure they will be delicious. The owner was so kind to reimburse us for parking. The first thing that hits you is the glorious aroma of aging Italian coldcuts, and it's something you'll look forward to almost as much as the Sicilian slabs of pizza that make anybody else's not even worth trying. Similar dough feel to focaccia, and much more flexible. Slightly pungent and very slightly sweet sauce, and lots of melty cheese, but never forget that the dough/crust is the star. And don't let the thickness fool you; it's as light as a cloud. The pepperoni itself is thin and at first assessment nothing special, but that's part of the master plan: it's there to add a bit of flavor, making the pizza better (and it does), without trying to hog the spotlight. You already forgot? Never forget that the dough/crust is the star of what is a most impressive ensemble. The pizza here is one of the few legends that not only lives up to the hype but also exceeds my already-high expectations on each visit. read more

I came here for the Sicilian pizza. The pizzas are towards to back and up the stairs around the corner. There were only cheese left. (Looks like pepperoni is also available). Others were grabbing 2 to 3 slices each and I knew I had to act fast. They were sold out by the time I left with my one slice. They do have nice selection of cheeses, meats and wine in addition to various grocery items. They have nice looking treats from NY. We were just passing through Portland and therefore we did not get anything else. Now onto the pizza! The pizza is better than imagined. The crust is light and fluffy and I love the hint of sea salt. The sauce is slightly sweet from the tomato and the melty cheese spilling over the edge. Each bite is better than the next. And it is a huge slice to share. Reasonably priced - get one to go, or get one to sit down in the little spot by the bakery where there's a small area to relax. - Grocery options are vast! Every Italian spice you could imagine, they have. Wines, beans, you name it. - Sandwich bar! Fresh sandwiches, large menu, quick service. - Bakery. The shining star for me. I ordered a dozen cannolis for a birthday recently (ahead of time - helps), and they were so beautifully packaged I didn't want to eat them. They were delicious and an absolute hit. - Service is fabulous. This is genuine, Maine service that is happy to help you. I can't say enough good things. Our family has been trying to visit all of the hidden gems of the city and let me tell you, this is one! A wonderful hidden treasure full of deliciousness! We all enjoyed Sicilian slab pizza slices at a great prices $5.99 per slice and the slices were huge. The dough was remarkable, fluffy and flavorful! We also indulged in the selection of fresh baked deserts. Cannolis all around!! The staff was also extremely helpful and kind! The self serve pizza was a bit confusing at first but we figured it out. You go in pick your food and pay at the front counter. We are first because we were unsure and then paid after, I think we were probably supposed to do it the other way around, but they didn't seem to mind when we showed up to pay for our already consumed snacks! First, I apologize for not having photos. I did not intend on reviewing this business. My wife and I were in Portland for a "tourist day" ... we had already had breakfast and we're making a quick stop for some Ines Rosales cookies. This is the ONLY place within 200 miles where you can get the cinnamon flavor which is amazing with coffee. But I digress. We grabbed some phenomenal pasta and heading towards the door when I decided to grab a pepperoni "slab". I just wanted to say I had tried it since I normally do not like the thicker Sicilian type pie. We sat on a bench across the street and I had just a couple bites .... BLOWN AWAY! I still do not know why, but I loved this pizza. To make a long story short, we took about 3/4 of the slab home and warmed it in our pizza oven. It was even better slightly crispy. The sauce is bold and bright. The cheese is top quality. The star ... as with almost all great pizza, was the crust. Be open and try new things ... even when you are hesitant.
