Unless you want to wait at least 2 hrs for your appointment, DO NOT go to any location. They purposely overbook appointments and count on people just sitting there waiting. And the staff is rude and the doctors take their time. Went twice at 2 different locations and the experience was HORRIBLE!!!!!! read more

I would imagine there are many good doctors there. However, my experience was with Dr. Mitchell Fineman. I should have realized when he was the only doctor who had an immediate opening that something was amiss. Dr. Fineman walked into the room and failed to even acknowledge me. He proceeded to talk to his assistant and acted in the most arrogant manner I have ever observed. To say this doctor has a god complex would be an understatement. Additionally, Dr. Fineman's educational background is very unimpressive and pales in comparison to the other doctors at Mid Atlantic Retina. Ultimately, he proved to be incompetent and misdiagnosed me. I would recommend avoiding this doctor. read more

I have one thing to say - if you want the best, choose Mid Atlantic Retina. And if you want the best of the best - you'll request Dr. Mitchell Fineman. I have been a patient of Mid Atlantic Retina for over 10 years - and I'm not quite 40 year, so you do the math. I rarely write reviews - but when the level of service has been nothing but amazing for this amount of time - I have to say something. From the moment I met Dr. FIneman, he has and has continued to be nothing but honest with me. He has been patient, compassionate, answered ALL (and I mean all) of my questions, and has worked WITH me. He listens to my concerns, provides answers, and determines the best course of action. He is not only a well-educated caregiver; he is genuine. I have never doubted his recommendations or treatment plans, and I am eternally grateful for all of the work and effort he has put into helping me get where I am today. doctor was very nice. if you are seeing mid atlantic at wills eye in philadelphia, lots of luck. the following review was for the whole of wills eye, but i am specific about the outrageous shortcomings at the separate practices. "My husband (Ken) was told by his local retina specialist that his leukemia had probably spread to his eyes and brain (deadly - we should, quote, start having fun and spend our money. omg).  He referred us to Shields and Shields at Wills Eye. They agreed about the possible spreading. He had an eye biopsy at wills eye. A specimen was "LOST OR DAMAGED by the carrier". Based on hearsay that wills eye has the most brilliant doctors in the country/world, that would be the only positive. I'll start at the beginning. The reviews regarding wait times - true. The consult at Shields & Shields was 7 hours. (during covid, loved ones must leave the building while at S&S. nowhere to go, no cafeteria. be prepared. philadelphia was also on lockdown. very long days here.) After S&S consult - same day - ken was sent to Mid Atlantic on the 10th floor. Dilated again. Ken said he felt like cattle all day, and he doesn't complain. M.A. scheduled the biopsy (a S&S employee asked ME why M.A. was doing surgery and not shields. that gave me pause). We had a couple questions afterwards for S&S. Their patient portal is a waste. They do not utilize it. So we emailed the info@ address. The abbreviated responses are semi-helpful. We go back for the biopsy. I'm allowed in the waiting room on that floor, thank god. Ken was first, 6 a.m. (there's more important things than coffee, but their coffee "station" had a dirty old keurig machine and one coffee cup on the counter. and the huge garbage pails in bathroom were filled to the top). Back for follow up a couple weeks later. M.A. very busy in the morning, but I was allowed in for results. They do not find leukemia in the eyes, thank god. I take a copy of the pathology report. (I don't read until later that they've lost or damaged a specimen. We were not told.) Upstairs to S&S for f/u there. I'm not allowed in, although that floor was empty. This having been a life or death prognosis, i wish they would have accommodated us. Ken is on overload with his health issues. Anyway, S&S sends us BACK to M.A. for another expert opinion. Now there are a COUPLE HUNDRED people on that floor. no seats, hallways lined, people leaning on walls; throw in a shackled inmate or two. even without covid, this crowd is unacceptable. HOURS we were there. they don't let me into the new consult. too crowded. but that doctor not as optimistic as the first two. Moral of the story, before you schlepp to Philadelphia, paying exorbitant fees for hotels and parking, try to find a local expert. Wills Eye will forever be a very last, desperate resort for us. (Also, i provided contact information for Wills Eye to forward reports to Ken's oncologist. multiple times. i was told it didn't get done)" read more
