This dealership is a class act, and that's rare among car dealers. However, the true test of a car dealership is how they handle the customer when they have a problem. Dealing with people who are happy is easy, dealing with people who have a problem with their vehicle is a much harder feat. I had an issue with my brand new 2014 Subaru Forester and I truly feel that Mid Hudson Subaru did everything in their power to help me from initially attempting to fix the issue and then finally working with Subaru to replace the vehicle. Leadership starts from the top and Peter Maher, the owner, exemplifies that. Every promise he made me along the way, he honored. That's very respectable in my book. The manager, Kevin, is also caring, helpful and not your typical car dealer manager. Mid Hudson's sales team is great and Michelle is the best car salesperson i've ever dealt with. She knows the cars, doesn't play games, gives you a great price and makes buying a car an easy and pleasurable process. The service department is also really good. Rob Bosch is the manager and cares about his customers. I've dealt with him directly several times and the guy really wants to help you. Worse service department ever. Not only did I catch them stealing parts they were meant to install, after my last visit they changed "not functioning" parts to fix an issue. I'm still having the issue. After posting my review the service department manager Dan depalma calls me and tells im no longer welcomed at the business and that he has cancelled my service appointment to fix what they didn't fix in the first place. Be wary of business that ban customers for reviews with legit grievances and issues. As retaliation they ban me. They are the ones committing shady practices . They recently jacked up their oil change prices and I got to the dealership to find that they now have a 3% surcharge on credit cards on top of the jacked up prices. Would have been nice of them to tell me that before I showed up and surrendered my car to them. I have been a customer for years, but today after getting an expensive repair, I was told that if I paid with a credit card I would have to pay an extra 3%. On an expensive repair that was a significant sum. i was not given an option to mail a check. I had to pay to get my car. I was so upset. I asked who I could complain to and was told that a lot of people had complained and they could not direct me to anyone to complain to, thus this posting warning others. This place is a joke. Needed to come in for a Thermo Control Valve replacement. Called ahead first, and the person on the otherside didn't seem to know what that meant, so she told me to come in to the dealership, and that they would know what to do. Of course when I get there, the mechanics outside say it should be no problem, and could get it done today, but when I go inside for the paperwork, the lady there tells me, I have to make an appointment for that, and was not gonna budge. On top of that, she tells me that they outsource to another company who answers the phone for them, so whatever I heard over the phone with them, more or less, doesn't count for anything. Just avoid this entire dealership. I have bought several new cars from them and have been talking in to buying packages including this crazy 'maintenance' package. Other dealerships tell me that the package could be used at all dealerships but this one makes it good for their dealership only. The package requires that I prepay for several inspections. I asked if I had it done somewhere else, would they reimburse (as they should). They said no. That response sums up everything they are about. Avoid the packages or better, avoid them. read more

They were good years ago.. Took my vehicle in for diagnostic on Sunday.. They never called to tell me they were checking the car not once.. I placed a few calls.. Monday afternoon and still no one was able to give me an answer .. after a few calls to them they called and said no one has checked the vehicle to give them another day because one of their technicians wasn't feeling well. Okay so I agree again no calls all day Tuesday. So here I go again calling them.. few times.. So I get a manager that tells me his technician has left for the day..Bear in mind no phone call to tell the what's going on..Then they proceed to tell me a Manager had to do the diagnostic on the vehicle.. okay fine. My husband and I have been loyal customers since 2018. Like many, we were financially affected by COVID-19. Our lease on our 2018 Forester is up in February, but our 2019 Crosstrek lease is not up until 2022. We wanted to see if there was any possibility for us to have our leases bought out by the dealership so that we can decrease our overall monthly costs and downsize to one car. When we arrived, we were told by sales manager,Tom, that salesman, Bill was very busy, but would get to us as soon as he could. We absolutely understood, he's a busy guy, we appreciate his time. Bill immediately was all over the place when he greeted us. He seemed preoccupied with 5 other tasks, which is fine, but he did not tell us to come back when it would be more convenient for him. He insisted that we stay and wait. Once Bill did get around to taking time for us (after about 20 minutes), my husband explained our situation, but also emphasized that we would like to take advantage of the added safety features that the nicer models of Forester have. He asked us what our monthly payments were currently, we said around $600 total for both cars. I believe that this was all Bill heard. He did not hear financial hardship, he did not hear that we're looking to downsize to one car because of the financial hardship. He did not tell us that we couldn't get a nicer model of a Forester for a low monthly. He asked us how much down we would pay, we said that is dependent on how low we can get the monthly cost down to. For about 30 minutes he was engaged enough to get an appraisal on our existing cars (which if I'm not mistaken, he gets a commission on the resale of). After two hours, the price he quoted us was upwards of $600 per month FOR ONE CAR!! Bill did not listen to a word we said. He just heard $600 a month is what we were currently paying, and that he could get us to pay the same. I will take responsibility for the fact that my husband said that we would want a 25k per year mileage. That was a miscommunication on our end. But if Bill truly wanted to give us all the options available to us, he would have presented multiple mileage range options with multiple Forester models. But he didn't. When I voiced this concern to Bill, he was very terse and condescending. It was very clear that he felt we were wasting his valuable time. Tom also decided to chime in from across the room with some condescending comments about mileage and the amount of damage on our existing cars. All either of them had to do was listen to what we were asking, but they didn't. I think they saw us as a couple of stooges that they could get three easy commissions off of (two for the resale of our cars, one for the down payment on the new lease). Clearly if Bill is this busy, he does not need our business. I understand this is a financially precarious time for everyone. It's not fun, and I empathize with the fact that Bill and Tom and the rest of the sales team are risking their lives every day to service our community. I appreciate that. That being said, spending two and a half hours risking virus exposure to my husband, my son, and myself, only to be condescended to is an insult to loyal customers. My husband has previously filed formal complaints with the head of service because we paid monthly service costs only to NEVER be able to make an appointment in a timely fashion. They also completely missed a bent transmission shelf upon inspection after we had an accident with one of our cars. But we never had an issue with sales. I guess we should have just read the rest of these yelp reviews, they're pretty awful. Congratulations, Mid-Hudson Subaru, you lost another customer in the middle of a recession. read more

Extremely frustrated with the overall purchasing experience at Mid Hudson Subaru, and especially disappointed given the hundreds of other positive reviews. My husband and I visited Mid Hudson Subaru with his mother (my MIL) on Saturday, June 13th to help her purchase a used Subaru. She's a nurse that works in the Bronx, and was using Metro North for her daily commute. She unfortunately contracted Covid-19, was in the ICU on a ventilator, and thankfully recovered. After this horrible experience, we made the decision to purchase a vehicle so that she could avoid public transit. We came on a very rainy day, and were aided by Roger in the purchase of a used 2016 Subaru Outback. We negotiated on the price (originally listed at $18,450), settling on $17,850. Because the financing office was closed on Saturday, we were told to come back the following week for lease signing & pickup. On the day of pickup (a week later on Saturday, June 20th), my husband and his mother were rushed through a review of the contract and missed that the price was invoiced at $18,850. He also noted that the mileage was 150 miles greater than the previous week. It was an unfortunate oversight and the contract was signed. Several days after the pickup, he mentioned that the invoice seemed wrong in the back of his head, and he asked me for the original ad. That's when we confirmed the discrepancy and we assumed it was a honest mistake of adding an additional $1,000 to the negotiated price. Remember, original price on the ad: $18,450, negotiated price: $17,850, invoiced price: $18,850. Both my husband and I called Mid Hudson SEVERAL times over the following two weeks, asking to speak to the finance manager. We were directed to leave messages on her inbox as she was out on vacation several times, and told there was no one else to handle the case. She failed to return our call despite me leaving a very detailed voice mail, my husband leaving a very detailed voicemail, and several phone calls where we explained the situation to the various receptionists. On one of those calls, we were informed that Roger (the original salesman) was no longer working at Mid Hudson Subaru. Finally, two weeks later we made the drive up from Manhattan and lo and behold there were no finance managers on site. A few days later, we called again and spoke to the manager on site, Tom, who confirmed that David (my husband) spoke to him at the last visit and expressed incredulity that the issue was still not handled. He assured us that he would speak to the finance manager and get the matter resolved by the following Monday (July 6th). It's now been over a week since that last phone call with Tom. At this point, I have to believe that they are purposefully dodging our phone calls and visits and are resolved to cheat my MIL out of $1,000. It's not the amount, it's the principle -- and that fact that over several phone calls and visits we were assured that they were aware of the mistake, would rectify the mistake speedily, but have yet to take any action or give any updates. BEWARE -- they take might take advantage of you. To add on, my MIL expressed that she felt they were being dismissive because she's older, Asian, and doesn't speak perfect English. BUT, she absolutely understands what's happening. Their next target could be your mom, aunt, or you. We are still in the process of trying to settle this matter, and I will be filing a report with our financing bank (Chase), the BBB, and local outlets & authorities. read more

Sales process was probably 3/5 stars, however I am thoroughly disappointed with their service. My brand new car needed a part replaced, which was diagnosed at my first oil change. They said they needed to order the part. Almost two weeks later and no call. Nothing. So I called them. "Oh your part is here, we tried calling." No you didn't. Well, bygones, let's make an appointment for this, which should only be an hour. Only to be told that I'll have to wait FOUR weeks to get in FOUR WEEKS?! What?! And the person on the other end of the phone didn't seem phased by this. Are you that in-demand that people actually wait FOUR weeks to get their cars fixed? With that, I will be picking another dealer to do my service. I don't care if I have some more free oil changes with this dealer, I will gladly pay for someone who cares about my car and my time. UPDATE: I was contacted by Mid Hudson Subaru after leaving this review and offered a rental car in order to move up the service date. I had already scheduled with another dealership to diagnose and fix the issue with my car. After a quick look at the car, the other dealer found that it didn't need a part replacement, but instead that something was unhooked in the door, causing the lock to malfunction. Mind you, the day that Mid Hudson Subaru had my car, they had it for at least six hours, only performed an oil change, and were unable to properly diagnose a simple issue. Unfortunately, Mid Hudson Subaru has lost my confidence. I should also note that their service department waiting area and friendliness of their staff is far inferior to that of the competitor I ended up taking my car to as well. Asked to put $5000 down, and finance the remaining 30000.00 through my personal bank USAA (loan was approved, rate approved and dealer fund request sheet printed) the manager and finance manage refused to take my money as they did not want to do business with USAA. I have never been so upset with a business... I came into the dealership with my sister who was in the market of purchasing a new WRX. The salesmen treated her like an idiot, and dismissed her questions several times. Employees were not helpful and refused to allow her a test drive a WRX model. The salesman smugly stated, "drive the Impreza, its the same just slower". After attempts to down sell her into a basic Impreza model (I'm assuming due to being a girl) we left in disgust. That following weekend my sister and I went to Danbury Subaru, where not only were we treated with respect and allowed to test drive the car - we purchased a new WRX from them the same day. The heater fan not blowing properly on October 22nd in my 2015 Subaru Crosstrek. I called Mid-Hudson Subaru that day because my vehicle is under warranty. The next available appointment was about 2 weeks away on Nov 6th. I brought the car in on November 6th as scheduled. That day the heater fan was working fine. Although I paid for an extended warranty, the best one they had, Subaru service charged me $51.04 to tell me my heater fan was working fine that day. Lessons learned. Don't bring the car in unless the problem is happening at that moment and can be duplicated. Also, be aware that even though you may buy an extended warranty, other fees still apply. Ask about the deductible for warranty repairs and know that if you bring your car in and nothing can be fixed that day you will charged the hourly rate for a technician to look at your car. read more

Made an appointment for a Saturday morning for my second complimentary oil change. My wife and I walked in at 10:17 for a 10:30 appointment. We stood at the entry awkwardly for about 5 minutes before our presence was even remotely acknowledged. I made it clear all I needed was the oil change. The waiting area was clean. There does lack a coat rack. This led to seating being taken up by people's belongings without them being there. We finally get out of there at 11:50. This is for an oil change. I would've been done if I did this myself. You get what you pay for. Mind you, this is complementary when I purchased the vehicle here. I don't really ever see myself coming in here for oil changes. If I do, it'd definitely wouldn't be for convenience. Boy, I can't wait for the Subaru Customer Satisfaction Survey! Time and convenience, or lack thereof, 1 star on a scale of 1 to 5. My friend and I (who is a lifelong Subaru owner) were stuck on the side of Rte. 84 in Newburgh, New York, in her disabled Subaru Forrester. We needed to be towed. I realize it was on a Saturday morning, during COVID. I called this dealership and desperately asked if we could have the car towed there. We were willing to pay the extra mileage for towing because she trusted a Subaru dealership. I was told the earliest time would be Monday. We were enroute from Pennsylvania to New Hampshire. We called a local auto repair shop (Mitchell's). It turned out to be a broken spark plug wire. In and out in under 30 minutes. I had a great buying experience here! However, I had two maintenance issues that were laughed off or never addressed, and therefore, I will never go back. First, they mispronounced my name and spoke to the wrong person about my car. That person agreed to a new air filter. I would've just changed it myself, given the option. I overheard the conversation so when I found out about the charge, I told the customer service rep, and he actually laughed at me! I decided just to eat it and didn't fight the charge but I should have! In the summer of 2016, I had an oil change. Shortly after, my neighbor noticed a puddle under my car. I figured it was from the recent change. I went on a long trip where, after being parked for a short period of time, the puddle under my car was significant. I called Mid-Hudson as soon as I got home. I explained that I had an oil change done there recently and that my car now seems to be leaking oil. The rep said they couldn't get me in for TWO WEEKS! I said it was important, especially because I commute 80 miles a day, but she said it was the best that could be done. I took my car to Meineke that evening where Mike immediately got my car in, even though they were less than an hour from closing. The mechanic said my oil plug was a turn and a half away from falling out. And he said my oil hadn't been changed any time recently! I still had issues with my car for the next 3 months and put hundreds of dollars into possible fixes, none of which fixed the vibration when driving in the cold. Ruge's Subaru finally found that my transmission fluid was 2/3 empty! So, although I don't have absolute proof, someone at Mid-Hudson seemingly drained my transmission fluid instead of changing my oil and left my oil plug ready to fall out. That could've caused so much damage and even injuries! I have sent at least two letters to Mid Hudson Subaru and never got a response. If you have a choice, find a garage that will actually care about you and your repairs, and that makes sure the work is done right! read more

She said I was all set for the following Monday. I came in looking to buy a new a new Forrester. While initially it was an okay experience, once I left the dealership the nightmare began. The salesman wouldn't answer my questions. Somehow my interest rate managed to Double 2 days after my visit. I wanted to purchase but I let him talk me into a lease. After thinking it over I went back to purchase. I later had this change of mind thrown in my face. I changed my mind about the color too and that was thrown in my face. The shady salesman who not only ignored my questions but seemed annoyed by them, asked me to take delivery on a certain day. I agreed and tried to find out what time, and was old they were too busy for me. He then argued that he never told me I could take delivery on that day even though I still had his email saying I could. He then threw it in my face that he found me a car and brought it in from another dealership so I wouldn't have to wait for an order. ( Big deal, it came from Danbury). Excuse me but if I come to you looking for a car and you find one...isn't that your job??? I heard several times from him about how busy they are. Well apparently they were too busy for my business so I took my business elsewhere. I reached out to the sales manager who never even acknowledged me. She just passed me on to the General Manager who also never acknowledged my complaint. All he said to me was your car is here, when do you want to pick it up? He showed no concern for my experience what so ever. Wow. Really? Not one of the three people I dealt with made any apology for their poor, shady customer service. Anyone in the area looking for a Subaru, go to Brewster Subaru. When I told them about my experience THEY apologized though that was completely unnecessary. I got a better interest rate, a better trade in, upgraded the trim and added a bunch of accessories. After all that, I paid LESS than the "deal" I was offered at Mid-Hudson. I've purchased my 2008 Impreza here and consistently every time I come to this place for service with an appointment, I spend the entire day there. First when you walk in, no one looks at acknowledges you and they'll discuss amongst themselves, "are you going to help her?" "No, I'm busy" "well I am too" and I just stand there saying Hello to no one who will respond. This business model is unacceptable but it works for them because all you see is 80 year old retired people in the waiting room so sure, they can sit all day and have their time wasted. In addition, whenever I call to make an appointment the next one available is 2 months later. If you placed a sticker on my car telling me my oil needs to be changed at a certain mileage, guess what? In 2 months, it is way overdue. So I now go to my own mechanic because this service model would've caused my car to fail early which they want so I can buy another car from them. My entire family has purchased a total of 5 Subarus from this place so they have enough of our money. Recently there was a burning smell in my car and my mechanic told me my head gaskets were leaking. So I called Mid Hudson to make an appointment just to get a second opinion. The woman on the phone Amanda, told me to come in as soon as possible, don't make an appointment because of the burning smell. Great. I come in 2 days later (which means I took a day off from work because I know this place will take all day), and Jonathan gives me attitude for not having an appointment so he can't guarantee they'll even look at my car. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? So I wait. from 11am until 3:00pm and then I call someone to pick me up for a medical appointment I had at 3:30. Then they call me back and say why'd you leave? BECAUSE MY TIME IS VALUABLE. If you want me to sit her for an indeterminate amount of time...pay me, or provide a rental. Either way this place is the WORST business in the Hudson Valley. The sad thing is I love Subarus and I'm in the market for my next one, but I will NEVER do business with Mid-Hudson Subaru again. There's been a pattern of disrespect. Oh and yes there's a recall on my car's passenger airbags. Its been recalled over a year ago but the next available appointment is in DECEMBER. So the representative stated she will call me back when they have time to fix it...YOUR COMPANY RECALLED THE VEHICLE! Your job is to fix it ASAP whether that involves hiring more people...i don't care. It's not my job to figure it out. Its yours, oh but the recall is free, so no one is rushing to work on that. They recommend I don't let anyone sit in the passenger seat. I didn't pay for a 4 passenger car, I paid for a car that seats 5. And isn't Subaru synonymous with safety. I purchased my Forester from this location about a year ago. The salesman who took care of me was as accommodating as he could be and I left with an approved loan and a new to me car the same day I walked in looking for a new vehicle. However, my car needed new tires a few months later, which was a surprise to me. Aside from the tires, the main reason why I'm writing this review is because it is exceedingly difficult to get a service appointment. It was very frustrating to get an inspection appointment, and the only reason why I was able to get one that actually worked with my schedule was because I was super persistent and asked to leave a complaint. The reason why I'm leaving two stars instead of one is because of the salesman who initially worked with me and the second person I spoke with while trying to get an inspection appointment went out of his way to accommodate me. I really wish I could leave a better review. *Note: I left a review earlier in the week that was taken down because I also left an unsatisfactory review for another local Subaru establishment. It would have been nice if a rep from Subaru contacted me instead of asking Yelp to remove my reviews, which were honest accounts of frustrating customer service experiences. Further note... In response to the manager's reply, I do assure you I purchased my car from this dealership about a year ago, and Subaru's records should indicate as such. I apologize if I got the name of the salesman wrong. I would appreciate it if the manager reached out in a way that was helpful rather than defensive. I would be happy to update my review if I feel like I'm being taken care of and respected as a customer who purchased a car from your dealership. read more
