A long overdue review. I will need to make it short, but would like to praise Peninsula Hospital…read morefor the very attentive care I received in 2011 for a major surgery. Fast forward to 2022 when I came down with covid - I had a horrendous experience in the emergency room - I could hear staff chatting away as though they were junior high kids at a party in another room. The ER doctor at that time told me I had "severe covid" and needed medication - a medication that had been understood would destroy a person's kidneys in a short amount of time. I refused the medication. I could mention many other concerning things about my treatment in the emergency room that night, but honestly, this review would end up being much too long. The good news is when I was admitted to a room on the 4th floor it was a different staff and they were great. I asked the doctor who came to see me if I had "severe" covid (as the emergency room doc said) and she said, "no, it's mild, but you are dehydrated and your electrolytes are off." Wow, how could one doctor say "It's severe and you need to have medication" (that will cause harm to my kidneys) and the other have a completely different diagnosis? The 4th floor staff took good care of me the remaining days I was there. Then in 2023, I ended up needing emergency room care again, and an xray tech walked in and said he needed a scan of my heart; I reminded him that due to my health situation (from a previous diagnosis) recommends for me to be careful about having too many xrays, and he said in a gruff tone, "Well, I need to do this anyway," and acted like he could care less. It is my understanding that all over our country, the best nurses and medical staff left their jobs because they knew the vaccines were not fully tested and they were being required to get the covid vaccine in order to keep their jobs. It seems the smart ones left and, unfortuantely, I get the impression that they've had to hire less-than-competent staff since then. I'm hope there have been some improvements to staff and training since 2022 and 2023.

Despite this: * Substandard Technique: The technician, Mark, failed to examine both arms for viable veins before attempting to prick me. * Physical Harm: Mark made 3 unsuccessful attempts. When I requested he stop after the third painful prick, he was dismissive of my concerns, stating, "I've been doing this for 24 years." This resulted in significant bruising on my left arm. They finally brought in a PICC nurse after that. * Procedure Failure: During the scan, the contrast administration was extremely painful because of contrast flow not being adjusted properly. Furthermore, the contrast did not appear in the initial images. Because of this technical failure, I was forced to return for a second MRI.

After checking in, I was seated in a chair and then taken inside, where an initial EKG was performed. I expected someone to call me and take me to a proper room, but I understand they were busy. The MD who saw me seemed caring--he asked about my chief complaint and suggested that my headaches were likely migraines. He ordered blood tests and X-rays. The X-ray tech informed me that the results would take about 45 minutes to an hour. Again, I understood and was patient. Since the waiting room was uncomfortable, I asked if I could sit in my car to rest while waiting for my results. An hour later, I returned, and an RN came out, handed me the summery of visit, and told me, "The doctor said everything looks fine." While in my car, I had been checking MyChart and noticed that my EKG results were abnormal. When I asked about this, the RN repeated, "The doctor said everything looks fine." I questioned why my EKG showed abnormalities on MyChart but was addressed normal by the doctor. I had been patient throughout the entire process and just wanted a clear explanation. The RN said, "You can see the doctor if you'd like." At that point, I decided not to wait any longer and left. It's frustrating to feel like patients are being rushed through care without thorough explanations. This isn't my first visit to this ER--unfortunately, I had no other options, which is why I returned. My first experience here was terrible, and today's visit only confirmed my concerns. The doctors and nurses seem focused on seeing patients quickly rather than taking the time to truly address their concerns. There appears to be a significant lack of communication between the MDs and RNs, and patients are not being heard. Now, I'm going home feeling more anxious than before, as my after-visit summary doesn't even mention the abnormal EKG findings. This experience reinforces how rushed and impersonal the care feels at this ER. As someone who works in healthcare management, I understand that wait times can be long, but patient care should never feel this dismissive. In my workplace, we ensure that every patient feels heard and leaves with confidence in their care. No one should have to question whether they received the attention they needed. I will never return to this ER.

Both of my children were born at this hospital and we had a caring and smooth experience each time. It is easy to utilize My Health Online to keep track of your appointments, view your test results, and send messages to your care team. There have been a couple of billing errors over the years but nothing too major. They have two labs onsite - one that is part of the regular hospital's services and the other that is specific to PAMF patients. The regular lab can get really busy if you don't have an appointment, especially during the weekend so budget extra time if you need to get some blood drawn. Cafeteria food could be a bit better, I once purchased a breakfast burrito here and it came frozen and I had to heat it up using the only microwave available - even other nurses and doctors had to wait their turn to use the microwave.

Dr Chapman was the best doctor you could ask for and was incredibly attentive to my eczema, asthma, and various allergies. I always felt safe and cared for as a child in this office, and I really loved all the paintings and decor in the different rooms. And of course I absolutely loved the reef tank in the waiting room. Here or there you might deal with a bitter receptionist but you'll find that everywhere. My mother really loved Dr. Chapman and this office as a whole and again, I couldn't have had a better childhood doctor. They were always on it and we never ran into any issues with incorrect or late prescriptions, inaccurate advice, etc. For the sake of transparency, I haven't been a patient here for five years so I can't speak to how the office is currently, but they deserve the five stars from a previous patient who is a happy and healthy adult. I will always be grateful for Dr. Chapman and ABC pediatrics.

Then, after one painful bloating incident, where others eating the same food had no issues, I decided to seek advice from Dr. Wong. Dr. Wong listened to me about my goals for myself, and we discussed a plan to which I was willing to commit. Within a few weeks of starting treatment, digestive changes were noticeable, and maybe I was also lucky that in a few months, my digestion became stable with regular healthy stool output. Through those observable improvements, I am certain Dr. Wong's treatments and advice, including a much reduced appreciation of wine, has resulted in distinctly improved digestion.
