Because our home is older, the job involved much more than just laying new flooring. They tore up old tile and multiple layers of linoleum, uncovering the kind of surprises you often find in older houses. There were uneven areas and quirks beneath the surface, and they took the time to properly level the subfloor so the LVP would be installed the right way -- not just quickly, but correctly. They explained what was needed and why, which gave us so much confidence in the process. I don't know much about flooring, and they were incredibly generous with their time and guidance, helping us make informed decisions while still making us feel completely in control of the final look. Because TJ is the owner of the company, and being a "general contractor", I figured he might have recommendations for someone I could hire to add electrical lines and outlets for additional power sources to my backyard as well. His first estimate included what the fees would be for putting in a sprinkler and electrical systems in my backyard. TJ told me that he runs a "family" business and had a cousin who could do the electrical work. I trusted that he knew what he was doing, so I hired him. First of all, after having paid for all of the parts needed for these jobs, his cousin ended up being late and extremely irresponsible resulting in his not completing what I hired him to do. TJ himself dug trenches everywhere and put in irrigation lines with sprinkler heads that were ineffective in most places. He often worked late and never did come back up to do a final walk through with me. I called him a number of times to get parts back from him that I had paid for that he never returned. I later found out that his cousin who ripped me off for the electrical job I hired him to do was on drugs. TJ was equally as inadequate promising he'd make things "right", but I never heard from him again. Now, I'm having to pay another fellow to undo the mistakes that TJ made by installing parts that ended up having to be replaced or removed all together. This entire ordeal was extremely costly, and it ended up leaving me with electrical and irrigation parts that were either not used or were wrong for the spaces. I felt like I was being taken advantage of and lied to resulting in an extremely poor impression of the trustworthiness of this company. Therefore, I would NOT recommend "TJ's Custom Building and Remodeling" to anyone who is looking for honesty, reliability, credibility, and professionalism in their business practices.
