My post relates two accounts of the quality of service provided. The first is my own.I stopped in without an appointment and asked for a the free brake check. Before they could even do that, there was a problem. One of the lug nuts was stuck and would not release. The guys tried and failed, tried and failed, It was like the lug not was welded on. But with 70 years experience between the crew, they revealed to me with pride. The used a special tool and off it came... Then they checked the brakes: Visually and with a micrometer on the rotor. Once done with the survey, they called me out to the bay and showed me. What I saw was no big surprise, which is why I had stopped in the first place. The rotors were bad (pitted, warped and worn too thin) and the pads nearly worn out. But the back brakes were fine. They could have tried to gouge me for a front and back wheels brake job, but they did not. The quoted a fair price for repairs. They treated me with respect instead of seeing me as a profit center. When I save up enough $$$, I will be back. Part Two. While in the waiting room I witnessed what they did a nursing student. Her car was in sad shape: Leaking power steering fluid, worn-out tires and more. They could have tried to get her to pay thousands for the necessary repair. They did not. Instead they explained what was wrong and how to keep the car limping along (safely) until she graduates in a couple of months. They treated her how you would like your own daughter to be treated. First time at this location they charged me more than I've ever paid for an oil change, and refused to rotate my tires without doing a $120 balance. I'm pissed every time I look at my uneven tire wear. Stopped in again today (this is the closest oil change to my house) and the guy in the lobby told me they were "slammed" and couldn't get me in until Tuesday. There was one car in the bay. One guy working on it. Then this bro in the lobby telling me they're slammed. Went down the road to CarX, they had every bay full, and got me in and my oil changed inside 40 minutes. I'm guessing folks have figured out this Midas location has bad management is full of it and they can't keep staff of customers. I'll not make the mistake of stopping by again. read more

A few months back they did over $2,000 worth of work on my car and after 2 or 3 days I needed to be towed. After the local Jeep dealer put the wrong size tires on my vehicle and refused to take responsibility for it I regrettably gave Midas another chance. They flat out defrauded me out of $1,400! INSIST ON TEST DRIVING YOUR VEHICLE BEFORE YOU PAY YOUR BILL! Midas stinks!...They suck! read more

I would give them 10 stars if I could! Had the alternator go out on my newly purchased used car, stranding me in Iowa City. My son asked how much an oil change would be and was quoted about $60. He left the car and came back to pick it up. Only be charged $117. I have been coming to this Midas location for over a year for oil changes. Customer service has always been spectacular and they always treated me so fair. Until last week (all new employees) when I took my car in for another oil change, they tried telling me my car needs 4 repairs costing $2,000. When I told them I was going to talk to my husband about it they had an attitude and said if my problems aren't fixed ASAP, the price doubles. I took my car to get a second opinion and sure enough my car needed NO REPAIRS AT ALL. I will never be going back there for another oil change or any other car needs. read more

The service was thorough. We did not have an appointment but at the time we wanted to come, he did not have a set appointment so he took us right away. We were there for an oil change, but he gave us a very thorough evaluation of other issues with our car without any pressure or underhanded schemes. I can confirm the other reviewers post. If you make an appointment online it means nothing. I went to midas once before, I made my appointment online. I received an email confirming. The email said someone would email me again to double confirm, they never did. I got there at my time, I had to wait a little bit but they got me in. I was in need for another oil change so went through the same process, made the appointment online, got the auto confirmation email that said they would email me again to confirm. That email never came. I drove to midas, I got there, it looked pretty busy, but I had an appointment so was not concerned. I get inside and speak to the person at the desk. He found my appointment, he was able to tell me the day I made it, and then he informed me they were too busy to get me in. He offered me a time the next day. But that would not work for me, so I took my business elsewhere. Why bother to take appointments if you aren't going to keep them? And if you can't keep them, why would you not make any effort to tell the customer so they could reschedule and avoid driving all the way to their shop. Very poor business practice. read more

Brought my car in for inspection - told me the vehicle was essentially totaled and everything replaceable needed replaced ~$2800 without tax in repairs. I overpaid for the brakes ($576) in need of the most attention. Had my independent shop take a look at the vehicle and they said everything was fine. I felt hustled and judged for doubting them in the shop. I will not be returning and I'd highly advice avoiding this location if possible. read more

I used to go to Midas any time I had an issue with my car because I didn't feel as if they would try to jip me because I am a 20 yr college girl. I was wrong, I went in for an oil change and to get my headlight fixed and they tried to tell me they had to take off my whole bumper to get to my headlight which would've been $120. I was able to change the light on my own, but now Midas is not the place I will be going to if my car needs to get looked at. read more

Went in for an oil change and three hours later I finally got my vehicle back. Friendly staff but they could be a bit faster.

I started going there after I moved to Iowa City, after I got a new car(new to me) in July 2020 I took it there to have it inspected of course they tell me there's $3000 worth of things wrong to my car, one of the things being the head gasket is blown, which isn't true at all I know enough about cars to know that's a lie especially when he told me I'd only have roughly 10,000 miles left on the car since the "head gasket" is blown, which is a load of BS because if it was blown I wouldn't make it that much longer. I took my car to two other places and they even agreed Midas lied and tried to scam me out of my money which I'm not even surprised anymore. read more

I'm giving 2 stars based on the customer service. When it comes to actually taking care of your vehicle, Midas has done a great job for me, but I don't think I'll be going anymore in the future. For the last 3 weeks, I've tried to schedule an appointment with a much needed oil change for my car. I usually always go online to schedule since they don't normally get to the phones as well due to being busy, which I totally understand. But each time I tried to schedule, I never heard back if I got an appointment or not. I would wait a day or so and then when I would call, I was told twice that they didn't have any appointments. Now what I didn't love is that they didn't contact me to tell me that the day and time I requested didn't work, they just pretty much left me in the dust which is just not professional at all. When I spoke to a man on the phone, he said that I didn't hear anything back is because they were booked but that's not a reason to contact a customer who's been going there for over a year and has had many repairs done at their shop. Communication is big to me and the lack of it just kind of turned me away from there especially that it happened 3 times in a 3 week period. read more

I sent my daughter to Midas for an oil change hoping for honest, fair service since I am 550 miles away from her while she is in college. They told her the axel needed to be replaced and gave her an estimate which I thought was very high. I made a few calls and had her take to another place and my suspicions were correct. Midas also tried to tell her it was dire and needed to be done right away to the point she was scared to drive it. I told her to get the oil change but not the axel and I would handle later. When she came home the next day (550 miles) I took it to a local mechanic who said it was not dire but would need service soon. I decided to let him repair and he charged me 1/2 of the Midas quote to complete the job. When I called Midas to discuss with the manager and expressed my disappointment, he took another look at the quote, and said it looks like they may have made a mistake and double quoted on the labor portion. I am not so sure this was an accident as I believe they were taking advantage. So if you choose to have your car serviced here, please question any estimate they give. I will find a new place for my daughter in the future. read more

Do not use these guys they rip you off and over charge for simple auto repairs. My daughter, who goes to the U of I, went here and they charged $470.00 for a front brake job. I emailed them asking why so much here is the answer I got. By the way they still have not credited the money back like they said they would. Michael: Here is what I found. Our regular price on these brake rotors is 74.99. On the day your daughter Carly was in we were out of stock on them and I purchased them from a local supplier. This is a fairly common practice. When I received the rotors I entered the price I paid and the pricing formula took over from there. Pricing them at $119 99 each. what is worse is I didn't catch it and ran the invoice as it was calculated for me. I should have caught it and didn't. I like to offer a refund of $125.00 and I can credit that back to Carly's card with a phone call from her. I really do appreciate your business and like I said earlier I am sorry that you had to bring this to my attention after the fact. Thanks for the second chance. I went to Midas to get them changed and, rather than taking advantage of me and charging me, they did a free assessment and reported that I didn't need new brakes. Be cautious - may try to sell you unnecessary extras or repairs. Tried to replace my air filter by showing me a nasty one. I had just changed it a few thousand miles before. Went home and checked it - perfect and clean. The oil change was fine (checked it also) and previous visits have been fine. read more

I want to make sure people realize that while Midas is great and cheap for oil changes their other costs are crazy. For example, I was quoted $90 for parts that at any store will cost only $30. I confronted the store with the cost and they didn't seem to care. Offered to try to work with me, but there didn't seem to be any bad feelings from them about trying to charge 3x the cost of the parts. I know a store needs to make money, but this is too much. read more

Dishonest and pushy service. I am glad I asked the questions I did regarding the proposed repair and never will return. The manager quoted two different prices, would not give the name brand of auto part being used as a replacement and was trying to turn a $200 repair into an $1800 repair through inaccurate automotive knowledge and a pushy attitude. I will never be returning here again, and be warned if you chose to go. $90 for a "diagnostic" service which entails them plugging in a code reader and plugging the codes into the computer is ridiculous. Its equally ridiculous that the dealer charges less and will credit toward the repair, something this shop doesn't offer. Stay away! read more
