I have 2 words for people considering Midas in Waterville - GO ELSEWHERE! Used Midas over several years for tire changeovers and oil changes. Recently had my car in for an inspection - identified a dashboard light requiring fix - they couldn't. Went to another garage who fixed light and identified 2 other areas - Midas didn't identify - to receive inspection. Went to my local mechanic who looked over car and fixed 2 identified areas but could not find a tie rod issue. Returned to Midas who now identified a "tie rod" issue requiring fix before inspection. While I waited for Midas to finish inspecting and determining more work needed, 2 other customers also miraculously needed tie rods repaired! Back to my mechanic I went, who inspected the tie rod in question - he could find NO ISSUE with said tie rod! When confronting Midas about 2 different garages looking at tie rod and not finding an issue they refused to accept this information as true. Became very defensive and refused to have a discussion on the appearance of a "scam" for money occurring. I advise anyone contemplating using Midas in Waterville to find another garage. They are out to pressure you for unnecessary extra work and prey on you with the hopes you don't understand cars. Family, friends and co-workers have been receiving word of mouth advertising to AVOID Midas at all costs! Take heed all! read more

These guys - the crew at this Midas - are amazing. While driving back down to the Boston area from a trip in northern Maine, we had some car trouble (one of our skid plates came loose and had begun dragging under our vehicle) in the middle of a massive rain storm. After spending 30 minutes under the car, tugging at the loose skid plate on the side of the road (in the rain) with no luck, we looked at our options in the area and called this Midas shop. Even though they were set to close within the half hour, they took the time to fit us into their schedule and help us out so we could continue on our way home. So grateful. read more

I have also stopped in to have the air checked in the tires, and Larry, the manager there, is always accommodating. Of many auto shops here in Waterville, I consider them the most honest in the area. Worst mechanics ever. Do not take your car here. Scam and ripoff artists. Went a year ago to get an inspection, and was told I needed new brake pads. They decided to replace the brake pads and rotors (which didn't need replacing). Now the car makes a horrible noise while driving. Took a second car here for another inspection, and was told it needed new tires after I had just replaced the tires a year ago. This place is a total scam. Don't waste your money. read more

my shop got closed due to Covid so I made a appointment here at Midas, they did not tell me prices until after they took my tires off, I was there to have new tires put on and a inspection sticker because my actual shop did a inspection two weeks prior before they closed and said everything passed except the tires. so after they took the tires off I found out they were going to charge over $100 just to put tires on... which is crazy but I had no choice since they already started. then they didn't even pass my car for inspection saying I needed new break pads which is not possible since my other shop said they were fine and a couple months prior I had them replaced... I talked to them about it and they wanted to also charge over $400 for the breaks and I was very upset and explained that there is no way that I need new breaks or that I would pay that for it, they were very rude and would not listen and I spent over $100 for them to not pass my car and try to scam me and sure enough I went to another shop and it passed.. and no I did not need new breaks, I went to a different reliable shop too not a sketchy one so Midas just tried to scam you and their prices in general are horrible.. Awful experience, refused service, poor management, and combative customer service. I had heard this place was considered a ripoff with far more scams than accomplishments, but personally had an semi-adequate experience at this Midas a year before and decided to disregard considering my car issue was simple. Admittedly, however they had done repairs without my consent at that time. In this newer instance, I scheduled an appointment at 12pm, arrived 10 minutes early, and signed the paperwork. I was not at any time told that there might a long wait for my car to be looked at regardless of appointment (which if told would've been 100% understandable and I would've gladly waited as long as needed). I understand when things go off schedule, and a twenty minute or so wait needs no explanation, however I was waiting for AN HOUR when I realized my car had not even been looked at yet. More so, at no time did anyone give me any update or indication of this which is customary. I civilly expressed my displeasure and confusion as to why I had waited an hour when I had scheduled an appointment hours beforehand and was met with hostility and lack of graceful or sympathetic customer service. A man named Larry rudely did the following: 1. Attempted to gaslight me by saying I had only waited twenty minutes (completely untrue). 2. Explained how busy they were (100% understandable) however went on to act as though I should've expected this (I'm unsure how I would've without a prior explanation). 3. No apology for the wait. 4. Unbelievably and hilariously he TWICE told me that I was screaming at him when I at no point raised my voice even slightly. I was calm and even toned the entire time- albeit I was increasingly displeased by the end due to Larry's contentious behavior. 5. Because I was not "happy enough" for him he then told me he would not allow my car to be checked out at all and I was sent away. I Waited an hour for nothing at all. read more

If I could give this shop zero stars I would. I went to Midas for a few years because they offered a financing option I needed and couldn't find at other shops. Almost every single time I've brought a vehicle to them it would be returned with some type of unrelated problem suddenly arising within a day or two, or wouldn't be entirely fixed, or worse. They took my perfectly good Ford Focus in for some routine maintenance and returned it with an awful noise. When I promptly brought it back they explained that they'd decided to pressure wash the engine without asking me during the last service and because the car was like 9 years old the pressure had broken some loose parts. They then required me to pay to repair it even though I never asked them to wash the engine to begin with. And just recently I brought my Subaru in with a blown head gasket. The car had 160k miles on it and so I was very involved in the repair process speaking to them every step of the way to be sure that because they were quoting me $2,400 to fix it I was making a wise investment. First of all, they strongly encouraged me to do the repair, assuring me that the car was in such good condition it would last at least another 100k miles if I did the repair (this was quickly rebuked by my other mechanic who looked at it after the fact and said I'd be lucky to get 30k-40k miles tops). Then when they asked me about having the head surfaces refinished to be sure there were no warps, I adamantly asked them to not only do this but to look into every other thing in the engine at that point that could be an issue in relation to this kind of thing while the engine was apart. They assured me they did and no other maintenance was needed beyond what they were already doing. Fast forward a month and a half after getting the car back and me sitting on the side of the highway with a seized engine. I called my other mechanic to see if I could bring it to them and they told me to go back to Midas because it was likely a warranty repair. And then they told me to ask Midas if they'd checked and replaced my valve seals. Well, wouldn't you know that not only did Midas not do this even though I was adamant the whole time about them being sure to check all possible related issues, they also unsurprisingly said it was not covered by warranty. So...not even 60 days after shelling out $2,400 to them, my car is totaled. Midas told me at the least it would cost $2,000 to replace the engine. These examples are only two out of a fair number I could list in terms of them in one way or another behaving in a shady way, doing really shoddy work they won't take responsibility for, or suggesting repairs that my other mechanic saw as completely unnecessary. I will NEVER trust them again. ***Update*** The owner of this shop called me today, and spent the majority of the time interrupting me while I talked, insisting that I paid $300 less for the repairs than I actually paid, and then after insisting the error was all mine, he miraculously decided out of the goodness of his heart to offer a maintenance repair worth $300-400 free of charge on my new car if I agreed to take this review down. Methinks not. This shop is not laying a finger on my new car. Never gonna happen. Not now, not ever. This guy didn't even respond when I brought up the other questionable stuff like their breaking my engine with an unrequested pressure wash and expecting me to pay to fix it, or their trying to insist that I needed new shocks on my van because I was supposedly riding on original shocks--a claim my other mechanic laughed at considering my van is a Toyota with over 250,000 miles on it! If I was still riding on original shocks the thing would be bottoming out every time I came near a speed bump! Not only were they not original, they weren't even in need of replacement! Oy. This shop does NOT back up their work, and they encourage people to spend money on things they don't even need. CONSUMER BEWARE!!! read more

Brought in a 2000 Ford Superduty with the 5.4 V8 for an exhaust leak. Told them it sounded like the right exhaust manifold when I dropped it off. They called me with an estimate and said it was actually the left side manifold. Gave the OK to fix it. Picked it up still had the same noticeable exhaust leak (not at idle only under load). Thought it might be the muffler and tail pipe I welded on so I wanted to check that before I complained. Turns out the right exhaust manifold has a missing stud. Called the service manager. He starts off with well we wold you they were both bad and you said replace the left one. No I said "fix the leak". Then his story was well when you replace one side the increased pressure can make the other side go bad. I didn't even know how to respond to that. read more

I'm very displeased with the customer service at this particular shop!!! I brought a car in that I had bought for my daughter. I had some issues with the exhaust and after they looked the car over they said they needed to put a new exhaust from the manifold to the tailpipe also they said it needed two struts a tie rod and brakes! I told them I would do the brakes myself because it was something I can do myself! Well when I took the old pads off and compared them to the new ones I noticed they were the same thickness... that got my curiosity going so I looked at the exhaust that was labeled custom exhaust on my receipt and they only replaced a small section and put it together with clamps!! I paid nearly 1,500 hundred dollars for the repairs they did! After the brake job I did I took the car back for the sticker they promised me once the brakes were new! When I confronted the manager about the repairs they did on my daughters car and he couldn't give me a straight answer on anything! He ran to the back of the shop and got a sticker and put it on the car without looking to see if I had even done the brakes! He then told me to have a nice day and refused to talk to me!!! I will NEVER bring anything to them again and I will tell everyone I know how horrible the customer service is and how they half ass there work!!!!!! It makes me wonder how many people get taken advantage of that go to them for repairs! I had to get the exhaust fixed properly by another shop!! read more
