Went to Midas McPhillips to get an estimate for my exhaust. While there asked for a quote on for the brakes. Was told it would cost $70 for a brake inspection. I told them not to worry about the brakes just do quote on exhaust. Desk person said time is money and then went to the back and yelled for my keys. He gave back my keys and when I asked about the quote for my exhaust he just said time is money and wouldn't do the quote. Wasted 1 hour there, appointment was made for the exhaust. Left with nothing. Yeah time is money, my time was wasted maybe they should pay me their shop rate for my time. Very rude read more

AVOID MIDAS MCPHILLIPS! Our regular mechanic just fixed the necessary issues in our car, but he doesn't do wheel alignment so I took it to Midas McPhillips. A wheel alignment is all I needed to be done. I drop it off and when I came back to pick it up, front desk (James) enumerated $800+ worth of other repairs - or I can just opt for $300+ that I apparently need to get the wheel aligned. I declined so nothing was done, wasted few hours and was charged $80+ for it. Now, they can argue with all their technical terms that those things were required to get the work I asked to be done. I'm not car or mechanic savvy, but I know that we had the most pressing issues fixed so that the vehicle can be used, and the wheel alignment was to correct the pull as a result of that recent repair. The $800 invoice included, bulb color replacement, wiper blades, tie rod (that was just replaced), among others. When I was told I needed to replace the item I just got repaired, I realized I'm being scammed. They even sent a link to the "diagnosis" which was very inconsistent with the invoice I have- this one talked about tires being a problem now but the wipers and lights are fine. It's getting hard nowadays to find an honest shop, that will not upsell you or rip you off and there are still some out there, but NOT this one. They did not deserve the fees I paid. read more

My Jeep was brought in and was told it was a fuel pump. Two tows back to the shop, one at my own expense, a technician outcast to swap a fuse and more than 1000 dollars our of pocket, requiring a car rental, and James the manager admitted that it was a wiring issue and would issue a rebate for misdiagnosis. Nothing done re: rebate for unnecessary new fuel pump expense. I have been using this Midas since Dennis Ruggles was running it. James was very confrontational when I came back to ask for a rebate. One of the worst experiences i've ever had regarding my vehicle. They gave me an overpriced estimate on a replacement of a control arm. ($1400). I went and called different shops and they said that price is extremely over of what they should be charging me. I got an estimate for $800 for the whole procedure. I told Midas I didn't want to proceed with their estimate and told me I needed to tow my car out which I lived down the street. After asking why, he stated to say it's unsafe and a liability if i get into an accident. I asked him if it was a policy within their company and he started to get upset saying, I would need to pay for his "legal fees, while giving me attitude for just asking a simple question. Went for a new power steering belt installation because my steering ceased up. Made an appointment and dropped off the vehicle. They were an hour behind on appointments which is understandable. I received a call after though that there was oil all over and they needed to do a shampoo. I got the feeling it was an attempt to overcharge me. My wife was picking up nearby when she finished work because the car still wasn't done. I was told it's be ready by 5:30pm. We drove by and I saw the guy moving my car out at around 4:45pm, not too long after I got off the phone with him about the extra work needed. They didn't call to say it was done, probably to make it look like they needed the whole second hour? The bill for the job was around $220. Wouldn't go here again. read more

Back around October, 2020 I had my Sienna in for a wheel alignment. I was thoroughly impressed and satisfied with that visit. Being a member of the "fixed income" clan, I thought I had found a shop that would look after both my vehicles with integrity and also within my budget. Friday, April 2, 1921 I booked an appointment on your website for an LOF and tire swap (on rims) for Wednesday, April 7 for my wife's Rav4. I received an automated acknowledgement email stating I would receive a confirmation within one business day of your re-opening. I realize this was Easter weekend and wasn't sure if you were open Saturday or Monday. Tuesday morning I called after NOT having received said response to confirm my appointment. I was confused that your call centre had no record of my request, but after some research was finally assured on her part my appointment was confirmed for Wednesday, April 7 between 9:30 and 10:30 and that I should be able to pick it up around 2:00 P.M. Wednesday morning I drop off the car and again was assured I should be able to pick it up around 2:00 P.M. I was told I would get a call once it was ready or if there were any concerns I needed to be made aware of. After no response around 2:30 i called the shop and was concerned that at first they weren't sure which car was mine, and finally discovered it hadn't even been in to the shop yet! I voiced my concern that we live in Lockport, and had made arrangements to spend approximately 2- 3 hours maximum in Winnipeg waiting for this 1-1/12 hour process to be completed. We went home, totally disappointed and called again around 4:30. The car still hadn't been inside the shop yet. I stated we were on our way back into the city to collect it regardless, and were advised it was "just coming in". When we arrived, i could see it up on a hoist being attended to. We were told they were "short-staffed" and "running behind". Why we weren't called or texted advising us of this is beyond me. I myself prior to retirement spent 40-plus years in the similar industry as management and always found the time to keep my customers updated. We sat in my van on the parking lot and watched while they completed the job. I did NOT notice the technician pay attention to the markings (L/F, R/R, etc on the summer tires prior installation as I had requested they were to be cross-rotated. Once it was completed, we paid, they apologized and we were again given some lame excuse of being over-booked. When we got home, we were both appalled in the manner the winter tires were just thrown haphazardly in the back of the vehicle. Scuff marks all over the sides and tailgate, even though there was a drop cloth sheet in place. (See photos) The winter tires taken off did NOT have markings as to their position (R/F, L/R, etc) I noticed the invoice (#37658767) is documented as a 2006 Toyota Sienna, NOT the 2006 Rav4 we dropped off. Now I'm concerned, did the correct oil filter get put on? Both the engine air filter and the cabin air filter need attention. Battery terminal is corroded. Why was there no mention made? No phone call? Isn't it in your best interest to want to sell your customer additional items as required? Engine oil shows almost ¾ litre over full. Apparently. My daughter happened to stop by your shop a few weeks ago shortly after 5:00 P.M. with a low tire on her car, and was told "NO" when she asked for help with a hose to have it pumped up. I have been a customer at Midas on McPhillips for over 25 years. During that time I had complete trust that my vehicle was properly inspected, and any work done was done well. During these 25 years, the manager, Dennis, remained in charge. His commitment to honesty and integrity never wavered. Two years ago when I brought in my vehicle, I found that the manager had changed. So did the Midas experience. Having worked for many years in traffic safety, I was horrified at the overall cavalier attitude, and on being told that my vehicle (then three years old) did not need to be inspected because it was new, my trust in Midas evaporated. Everyone deserves a second chance, but when I returned in the autumn for an oil and tire change, I remained horrified. When my battery died shortly after this visit, no one could tell me it had been inspected. I had the battery replaced, but not at Midas. This week I returned to Midas for an oil and tire change simply because my tires were in storage, and I needed to retrieve them. I had decided it would be my last experience with Midas. When I returned early to retrieve my vehicle, I had an opportunity to observe the fellow behind the counter at Midas. I soon noted that he was extremely well informed, and was very good as well as patient with customers. He inspired trust. As I was preparing to leave, I asked him if he was the manager. I needed to know that he wasn't simply filling in, and that the previous manager was well and truly gone. He (James) was indeed the new manager. This time I received a full and comprehensive inspection report, and the same quality of service that I had received during my initial 25 years with Midas. I felt assured that the same honesty, integrity and commitment to excellent service I had experienced during my initial 25 year experience with Midas was once again in place under the new manager, and I am glad to remain a customer at Midas on McPhillips. After a glowing recommendation from a LONG time customer of Midas, we booked in for an oil change during our stay in Winnipeg. Service was fast, friendly, and professional. We got a standard oil change for $40, and waited about 25 minutes. There were some toys and magazines in the waiting room, and it's within walking distance to a strip mall with a superstore and some smaller stores if you'd rather run an errand while you wait. read more
