Midcities Montessori is all around wonderful school to attend. The teachers are great and are there truly for the enrichment of the children. I have had interaction with the owner who is great. She is a true leader not only for the school but for the community. She does a great job with the students and opportunities offered at the school. Avoid this school at all costs. I sought them out hoping to have my child's educational and social-emotional skill and needs developed. It was a disaster all around: financially, educationally, and emotionally. I am not someone who typically reviews, but my experience with this "school" was so horrible, that I feel a need to save others from the hardship that we've experienced. We are still picking up the pieces, trying to figure out how to make sure our child is able to graduate and move on to higher education. The "owner" is a horrible, vindictive person who needs not to be in charge of the educational development of young people. The teachers are good, yes, but their qualities ultimately get squashed by the oversight of the one person in charge. Shady at best. read more

I taught Kindergarten at a public school for a decade, and then I put my own child here. This is not to say that I HATE public school...but, I can see the advantage of the SMALL class sizes, the LACK of government intervention, and the authentic and true approach to learning and education. We considered homeschooling my son for awhile, but honestly, Midcities Montessori is the best of both worlds, giving extreme individualized attention but with outstanding social skills training and a love of community and respect for humanity which is frankly missing in public schools today. My high school son transferred from public school to Midcities Montessori at the beginning of this year. He was struggling in the public school setting and had become resentful of what he referred to as an "apathetic" environment. Struggling with ADHD, he found it difficult, almost impossible, to learn under the public school curriculum. After almost 6 weeks at Midcities Montessori, he has become noticeably happier and his depression has all but disappeared. He has begun to enjoy learning again. The smaller teacher to student ratio has allowed his teacher to be more hands on with him. Not only encouraging him to work on his focus, but providing a safe and positive learning environment. Kim, the owner, has worked with us every step of the way to make sure the transfer went smoothly. She genuinely cares about every student's progress and is a complete gem. I can't even begin to express how grateful I am to have found Midcities Montessori. My oldest kiddo had always struggled in public school. He simply does not learn the way public school teaches. He was in a top rated school with amazing teachers and staff, and no matter how hard he tried or how much help he got, he was always walking the pass/fail line and always seemed to get lost in the shuffle with the large class sizes. In a perfect world, public schools would be supported in such a way as to accommodate all students, teachers, and their needs. This simply isn't the case. We tried homeschooling and it turns out, I am just not cut out for that lifestyle. But my son loved being able to learn at his pace and so we started looking into other public school alternatives. I was leery of private schools at first because of the uppity reputations that seem to come along with private schools. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that Midcities Montessori isn't like that at all. They take the Montessori guided & child-led, self-paced learning approach everyone is familiar with for preschool and spread it across all grades. Because I didn't want my other kids to end up in the same situation as my oldest, I enrolled all 3. They aren't just another student trying to make it through the year. Their teachers, Mrs Lee and Mrs Razo, and the director, Kim, are truly invested in them and their success. And with the small class sizes, there is no shuffle to get lost in. Since starting here, my oldest son (who once dreaded school and always asked for a "day off") gets up every morning excited for school. They have all told me on more than one occasion that they love school. They are able to learn at their own pace and are given the opportunity to explore personal interests in the process. It is astonishing to see the transformation of my oldest from this stressed out, angry child I had to force out the door to school every morning to this flourishing young man who is happy and growing daily because of his schooling. Seriously, if you are on the fence, just go for a tour. Talk to Kim and you will see the passion she has for these kids. We love this school and could not be happier with our decision to move our daughter. The administration truly believes in the authentic Montessori approach and it is evident in the classrooms and the operations of the school. The love for children begins with them and continues into the classroom. The teachers truly love their students and show it every day. The classrooms are beautiful and very peaceful. The ability for for all students to work and learn at their own pace while having one on one time with teachers for learning is incredible. The administration team is also very aware of how dynamic families are and go above and beyond to work with families in special circumstances or needs rather than nickel and dime you for every little charge or fee. The heart of the school, staff and kids continues beyond the school doors as the school continually seeks ways to have an impact within our community and help others in need.
