A great ethnic grocery store with a wonderful deli counter! This place has the best hummus in town, bar none! It's always fresh (they sell tons of it, so no worries about it being old), never oily, extremely smooth without any dominate flavors. It's simply amazing! they have amazing salads, falafel, kabobs, etc. They have fresh pita bread every day, a real treat! Oh, their kafta pies are outrageously great! Honestly, they're all great, but I love the kafta. Perfectly seasoned, perfect pastry, etc. If you want feta, they always have at least 3 choices, and the prices are better than anywhere else in Toledo. Their produce is usually great. Once in a while you'll get something that's a little older than you'd like, or it's lacking flavor, but produce is all natural, so these things can be hard to control. They have great shelf-stable things like olive oil, spices, grains, etc. They have a great olive bar, refrigerated/frozen items, nuts, dried fruits, etc. Need puff pastry or phyllo, no need to go anywhere else. My only quibble is one of the guys working behind the butcher counter isn't always that friendly. I try to wait until he's busy and then get served by one of his co-workers. The place is always spotless and it's in a very safe part of town! I can't recommend this place strongly enough to anyone who loves Middle Eastern food! This is the largest middle eastern/Arab market that I have seen! Of course, that just means I haven't seen a lot ;) First of all, there's a butcher shop area full of halal meat and a deli/bakery section with freshly made sweets. At the latter, you can order different types of baklava by the pound - it was good! There's a freezer/fridge section, with bread, meals, and more. Several rows of dry goods, including many imported sweets, teas, coffee, and more! Customer service was very friendly. I look forward to returning! read more

Why only three stars? The market is clean and tidy, the produce fairly fresh, and the customer service is friendly and efficient. So what gives? If it wasn't for the flavor and quality of some of their prepared food, I would have given them 5 stars. Let's start with the good - their bakery food: - the manaeesh (zaatar flat beard), cheese and meat flat beards are very good overall although the meat flat bread was uncharacteristically bland compared to much of their prepared food(see below). - the Fatayer Spinach, cheese and meat filled pies are also very good! They are generous with the stuffing. Now for the disappointingly bad: - The baked kibbe was in edible. It was dense, hard like cardboard, overly spiced, and overcooked on the verge of burnt. Our elderly mother, famous for her cooking in her younger years, couldn't chew it. the family jokingly noted that we should "kib El kibbe" (throw the kibbe in the trash). - The rolled (stuffed) grape leaves had too much lemon in them, making them a bit unpleasant to eat. - The tabouli, baba ghanoush, and hummus were all too salty for our taste and the baba ghanoush had too much tahini in it These experiences put us off trying their other prepared food. Finally, the exceptionally bad: We ordered ground lamb for Kibbe Nayeh - lamb tatar. This meat needs to be specially prepared (very lean, fresh, and finely ground) as it is eaten raw in its final preparation. The meat needs to be fat free however what we got from the butcher was strewn with white specks of fat. it was unappetizing at best so we had to leave it behind. I was expecting much better from them based on the reviews; a place where we could order good prepared food to be delivered to our mother so she could enjoy familiar food. This is my go to place for meats! It's a great price and very clean. Every time I go in the workers are very friendly and accommodating. If I can't find something they are very helpful in helping me find it. I also love that they have baklava and other pastries from Shatila! I used to have to wait to go to dearborn to get a Shatila delicacy. The middle east market saves me a trip to Dearborn. Their new location is very nice. It's about three times the size of the old one and they have the Sidon bakery next door that is fantastic as well. There is plenty of seating at the bakery as opposed to the old market where there were only four tables to dine in at! If you love authentic food you have to come here! read more

One of the biggest and cleanest middle eastern markets in the Toledo area. With a range of supplies, ingredients, fresh bakery, fruits, and fresh meats. The bakery sells homemade treats from baclava, kunafeh, basbousa, and more. You can also get some dishes found next door at Sidon, like the Fatayer, fried kibbi, chicken, rice pilaf, etc. The market targets more a sense of to-go dishes and boxes. I typically don't shop groceries here, and cannot comment on the meat or fruits, as I usually just stop in for a quick look around after eating at Sidon. What I do always buy when here, is a pack of deliciously refreshing Vimto, and some terrific baklava! The middle eastern market used to be located not too far from this new location, and from I recall, I think the original spot is still a market as well. The new store is larger and cleaner, and the service from my experience is kind and helpful. My only complaint is that the entrance is a bit cramped with fruit stands and the bakery counter being in the way. It would not be rare to say that many a time, you need to adjust your entry to the grocery because someone is standing at the bakery counter ordering something, as well as people exiting the same manner. I'm not sure if there is a restroom for customers, but if not, all the more reason I encourage hopping over to their family neighbor, Sidon, for some affordable and filling fresh meals. read more

One of the largest, most complete, and cleanest middle eastern markets in Toledo. Big variety of produce and meat at excellent prices. Produce was fresher than at most middle eastern markets. Of course, the usual canned goods and dairy products are available; actually more than the usual ones, since the selection is larger. Haven't yet tried any of the spreads or salads from the deli case, but hummus, tabouli, etc. are there, along with a great selection of desserts. This market is next door to the Sidon restaurant, so if that whets your taste for meditarranean food, come here afterward and plan to make some at home. read more

Middle East Market has become my go-to stop. The store is great for all thing Middle Eastern cuisine, but they also have a lot of other staples as well. A clean and bright store with a staff that is friendly and knowledgeable. Their deli has so many great ready to eat items (which is perfect for a quick lunch or dinner.) Being that they sell halal meat, I have a higher confidence in the quality and I love that their butcher is always on staff. Produce is fresh with great variety ... This store offers fruits and produce at very low prices, every Wednesday. Other than that, the store is very clean. However, I do not think the way the store is organized is convenient for Customers. As soon as you enter to the store, you find your self in front of deli department where other customers block the way because of waiting to place an order or for order to be prepared. The middle are is filled with produce and fruit tables. So, you need to try to cross the traffic in front of the deli section. Also, when you are done, you will another puzzle to figure out how to get to the register. Not a good design either. They offer quite many grocery items, but not the lowest prices like they do for produce and fruit. read more

I'm so happy I found this market! A friend shared her hummus with me, and when I exclaimed over its deliciousness, she told me about the Middle East Market. She said their meat department is also good. So I went right over! The hummus is completely store-made and is my fave. $4.99/lb. The baklava is outstanding, tho they don't make it. Great price - $6.99/lb. I've served to our adult kids, and they loved it. I also have bought meat, because a lot of it is seasoned, which makes dinner easy. The butcher is VERY helpful. We've liked the meat we've had. I find the whole store fascinating, and I enjoy the adventure of shopping there and making new discoveries. Oh, and the fresh deli has meat pies and spinach pies for $1.25 each or 12 for $12. Yummy! Light and delicate. They keep well in the freezer. read more

I have been shopping at the Middle East Market for the last five years. They used to bring some good middle eastern groceries (not any more). I heard so many complaints about their meat and their butcher. I know the guy; he is really not nice, he has no since of respect for the customers and he is like giving you the meat for free "literally". Yesterday, the weather was nice and I decided to take my family to the park. So I went to Middle East Market to buy some chicken tawook. The guy there took my order then took another order from another person behind me " a lady". Then he started working on her order and ignored me completely. I was so upset and outraged. I told him that what you just did is not nice. He started shouting and threatening (with a knife in his hand). I knew right a way it wont end pretty with this guy. Then I went to the management (as we do with any other respected store). I tried to explain to them what just happened from their butcher, their response was unacceptable and unsatisfying to me. Then another guy, also from the management, came and talked to me, when I told him again about what just happened he started making excuses and not willing to acknowledge what I am saying. He started defending his guy and not willing to apologize for his action. I really got so upset and left the store deciding not to come back ever again. Thanks God there are many other Middle Eastern markets in Toledo and Dearborn is juts 40 minute away. My advice is that if you really want to go there just be careful and expect anything from them. read more

They have a good collection if Asian groceries and the meat is fresh and low cost. The staff at the meat department have definitely gotten better at treating customers. The deli is also good, I have tried a few items and they tasted really good. I would suggest them to add green chillies and Curry leaves, so that I don't have to go to an Indian grocery store just for those items read more

I usually love coming here. Their variety of items and their meat quality is great. Sadly I had a very very poor experience this last trip with the butcher. He was incredibly rude, questioning my order and immediately stated "don't even think about returning this." I didn't even know people returned meat to a butcher shop. I'm the customer making a request, if you disagree with it you can say that nicely. His tone was so demeaning and belittling. Will not be buying meat from here again. read more

I stopped here for the first time a couple days ago after driving past it for months, and I'm glad I did. The prices are fantastic, and they make the best hummus, falafel, kibbeh, mujadara and grape leaves in the area. The staff were all kind and helpful, and the zataar pita chips couple brilliantly with the hummus. I dont deal with the butchers here, they're rather unpleasent to deal with. The guys that work in the fruits and veggie area are always very kind to my son and i. My son who is very hyper active spilled a bag of grapes and he was picking them up when a man runs over to clean them up. He made my son feel much better about his accident (THANK YOU FOR THAT!! Usually people veebally attack children such as mine) i bring my son every so often to get my husband his lunch. The women are always so kind and so quick! My husband loves their meat pies. They taste like sloppy joes LOL.. I at one point had an issue with the cashiers as they wouldn't stop rudely looking at me. After speaking to the manager,i swear the place changed!! Is it just me or has anyone else noticed the quality of fruits and vegetables have gone down? Also, the prices on many items have soared up. I started coming here quite a long time ago because their prices and quality were excellent, and worth the drive. I loved ordering the hot fresh bread, but now they have doubled in price! Wow - staff beyond friendly and welcoming. They all appeared to enjoy working there, and so helpful. Everything I purchased there was so good. Produce fresh and reasonably priced, deli had tasty versions of the food I loved. My son was with me, so we decided to pick out a few treats at the bakery. I wish I would live closer to this place! Medium sized with a deli and butcher, veggies, fruit and bulk foods. The store is very clean and the staff friendly, quick and knowledgeable. The deli offers some of the best veggie grape leaves, cheeses like feta and halloumi, tabouli and other goodies. Get the mini pies by the dozen with feta, spinach or meat. Fabulous deserts here as well. Olives and pickles by the pound are a great addition to any salad or as a side. The veggie section is solid but limited. I target the small cucumbers, lemons and fava beans (when in season). The fruit section is where it gets exciting. When the clementines plus green leaves are available I load up. They're exceptionally sweet and a great value. Different types of figs are available and other seasonal fruit is available at great prices. Grains, bulgur, dried beans, lentils and other essentials are always available, so are different types of pita. My favorite stop is at the butcher. The guys working behind the counter know their meat. They are quick and happy to make recommendations, explain what meat is best cooked what way and answer any questions. Cuts that are not available elsewhere like goat and boneless shank are sold together with more common cuts of chicken and beef. The burger patties are spiced with middle eastern flavors. I would not recommend them for a burger. The meat is always fresh and largely cut in store. The cooler holds whole lamb and is cut anyway you need it. Lamb is ground to order. I have ordered kebabs for a party and the butcher called to make sure he uses the right cut. I was clueless and he explained and helped me decide. When I came half an hour early for pick up they had just started assembling to assure freshness. I wish I had a place like this close to home. It is the largest and cleanest Middle Eastern market in the Toledo area. The market has recently moved to a more convenient location on Bancroft road and Reynolds road and has also expanded in size (huge bonus!) To start off, Middle East Market has always impressed me with their great selection of groceries. I do not buy meats from anywhere else, simply because I have found that Middle East Market has the freshest and greatest quality of meat. There are always special sales going on such as "Wednesday Hump Day", when certain produce items are significantly marked down, along with yearly Ramadan sales when many items throughout the store are also significantly marked down in price. Besides the groceries, Halal meats department, and fresh fruit assortment, the market is also equipped with a deli bar! At the deli bar, deliciously baked pies (cheese, meat, spinach, feta cheese and spinach) are served. They also serve scrumptious veggie and meat grape leaves, which are personally my favorite, and by the far the best hummus and tabbouleh I have ever tasted in the Toledo area. Conveniently next door is Sidon Lebanese Grille and Bakery which is also owned by the same family. They have an extensive menu with favorites such as chicken shawarma, lamb gyro, beef kabob, and so much more. The restaurant has a comfortable and pleasant environment ensuring a delightful and unforgettable experience for customers. Also, the service is excellent and quick and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Overall, the qualities shown by Middle East Market stand out in a customer's mind.
