The bakery is nice the apple fritters and ciabatta rolls topped with calabrian peppers and asiago are a must. The take and bake strobolis are perfect size for two. This has been a favorite shopping spot since the old days when they were down by Monroe/Cardinal. They still have great quality foods and products and are still a great local company. So, we've waited more than two months for the "Grand Re-Opening" of the "famous" Sofo's market - Toledo's only "Authentic Italian Market". To begin with, it never was authentic Italian - and it still isn't. This place can't even bake a decent loaf of Italian bread. I'd guess the only thing "Italian" about Sofo's is their inherited last name. The authenticity - if it ever existed - is long gone. That said, I'm sure the average Toledoan will think they're shopping in Rome. Everything about this store has always been mediocre. Now, with the "Grand Re-Opening", the only thing that is no longer mediocre are the coolers and display cases as they are all new. And, the store is much easier to maneuver than it was previously. It was literally gutted from wall to wall and everything is bright, shiny and new - with the same tired faux Italian fare and mediocre products and cuts of meat. Wait until you see the "new", "improved", more "Italian" produce section. Fresh and jarred figs at outrageous prices and Champagne grapes. Seriously? There's a market for any of this in Toledo? Needed to pick up a quick meal for this evening and, since I was in the area, thought I'd stop in and grab something easy. Spotted an "Authentic Italian" sub sandwich - trying to imitate what Andersons used to sell. The bread looked extra thick and the contents looked extra thin so I bought some "extras" to doctor it up a bit. What a total disappointment. The bread tasted like a carboard pizza box - dry and absolutely no flavor. Never again. I've really tried to like this store over the years but, honestly, there just isn't anything to get excited about. If you want "Authentic Italian", seek out some of the Italian Markets in Metro Detroit. They are worth the trip. read more

If they opened a SoFos downtown I would shop there several times a week. Due to their current location, we don't get a chance to visit too often. Sofo's is Toledo's own little Italian market. They carry heaps of imported items that you can't find any place else. For being such a small place, they really pack the stuff in too. Sofo's carries everything from imported wine, homemade frozen raviolis, and cannolis, different meats, cheeses, fresh homemade pizzas, canned goods...you name it, they've got it! It's all great quality stuff as well. Oh...they also sell delicious baked goods as well, which are all made on site! We try to come here at least once every couple of weeks to at least stock up on some of their home made pizzas. They're sooo delicious! read more

Always a supporter of Sofo's however this year I will be taking my business else where for the few items that I need. Tried to place a pick up order of Bread Fetta and capicola. Was told (without even asking what I needed) that they were taking no more orders. I understand businesses are having a tough time getting people to work but as a former business owner I worked extra hours at this time of year to accommodate customers. With businesses struggling due to our countries situations I would find a way to comply to my loyal customers. 14 tp 16 hours a day are not fun but no customers will only hurt you and I in the end. A small but wonderful market with a focus on Italian in the grocery items to purchase, pre-made food, deli, bakery, and meat sections. Pastas, sauces, and cheeses are plentiful. Fresh vegetables and other dairy items are available. Deli has an entire section of olives. Breads are bountiful. Small, separate area with coffee, gelato and limited sandwiches to purchase is to the right of the check out. I was disappointed there was not fresh pizza and other hot items located in that area. Service was prompt and everyone was extremely polite and offered their help while I was looking around. Parking was plentiful and building was easy to identify. Prices were very reasonable. It's a well laid out, clean store with unique offerings. Definitely worth a trip to check out if you love Italian foods. read more

Went in on a busy night to put in a catering order. I was met at the back counter and handed off to another staff member. I wish I could remember her name cause she was awesome. She went over everything with me and made me feel at home. She showed me the menu and walked me around and showed me other items not listed. While I handled my business my wife and kids shopped around and found dinner and dessert. After I placed my order I found a ready made dinner and checked out. Dinner that night was awesome. My wife's 40TH bday went great. I bought way more food than needed but it was all gone. Everyone had nothing but good to say. Thank you to all the staff that helped out in making my wife's 40TH a blast. Definitely recommend to everyone and I'll be back for more as often as possible. read more

My love for Italian food is well known among my friends and family. I would walk miles in the snow on my knees for a good lasagna. Of course there is no one like me who can make it. I do have a slight ego problem when it comes to cooking. They even have supplies for non Italian dishes like my world class tiropita. Ok I brag on it a lot, but once you have experienced it, I know you'll be back for more. You can go nuts deciding between the feta cheeses available. French, Greek, Bulgarian, and Domestic, not to mention the Italian version. So much cheese, so little time. The deli case is massive and is filled with meats, sausages, and cheese glorious cheese. Walk down to the cold case and there are delights like fresh pizza that you can take home and bake, not to mention cannelloni, tortellini, and a myriad of other delicacies. Then there is the wine, and the pasta. It would take more space than I have here to describe how much they have and how reasonable the prices are. They have prepared dishes and salads by the pound. Then there is the olive bar. I cannot count how many different varieties of olives they have. Olives stuffed with peppers, garlic, cheese, or just plain olives, both green and black. Soaked in wine, or oil, it is enough to make your head spin. In addition to that, they carry pastas from Italy and sauce from around the country, but their own brand of canned sauce rocks my world and its pretty reasonable too. They even have my size jars of olives. Most people can be happy with a small 8 oz jar. My idea of a small jar is 8 pounds. That would last me about 2 weeks. To say I like olives is a complete understatement. The only downside is that they are one store and that happens to be in Toledo. If they carried Calder's Milk it would be the perfect store. But you cannot have everything. When you check out, no matter how much you've bought you get a free smile and an invitation to come back soon and a free mint. Sofo's is a big fish in a small pond. My family is of Italian American decent and originally moved to Toledo from Bensonhurst Brooklyn in the 1930's. My family has been frequenting Sofo's since it was down by Monroe ad Auburn for years before it made its move to its much nicer and trendier location of where it is currently located. In Toledo, this place is hard to beat to get some nice meats, cheeses, olives etc. The reality is it cant hold a candle to the deli's and Italian grocery stores that exist in cities with large Italian neighborhoods like NYC, Philly, San Fran, STL-all place which I have lived. They didn't even have fresh muzzarell until a few years ago. The place does well because it has little competition and offers a decent product. read more

If you cannot smell the wonders of goodness of Sofo's from the parking lot...head to the nearest pharmacy and get a prescription for a stuffed up nose! LOL This 'scent' pulls you in! Fresh meats, awesome customer service ....did I mention the breads....oh...someone ...stop me! SOFOS IS AMAZING. Because of Covid19, we were unable to have a Birthday present sent on time to my Fiance's Father. Since we don't want his parents leaving the house, and ran out of time for a gift, I figured I would give Sofo's a call. Tony was able to help put together a curb side pickup, but because we didn't want them to go to the store I was about to change my mind. I have noticed over the last year that my credit card statement does not reflect the amount i recorded in my ledger, and just yesterday i purchased 3 items but didnt notice until today that i was charged an additional $2 for "bakery markdown". While they purport to be "all that" in terms of their offerings of Italian goods, we found their selection to be no better than the international lane in a larger grocery store and way overpriced. This is one of my stops in Toledo! Loaded up on the bread and meats today - was ask if I was having a party. No, just in town. I purchased breads to put in my freezer which I divide up so not to waste any since it's only has a few days to be good. Otherwise, one is making stuffing, crumbs or french toast with it. The french feta is great - a bit on the higher price side based on what I have seen other places. But I don't know of any place else in Toledo area that sells it. read more

This place is something. My mother and I have come here randomly throughout the years but have horrible experiences each and every single time. The staff is always horribly rude to us. EVERY TIME. I don't know if they're just racist, we're Muslim and my mother wears hijab, or if we're just lucky to have horrible treatment but Sheesh! Unfortunately, they have good cannolis.. at least the only ones I know of in Toledo, so I will be going back while I'm pregnant and have these cravings . Definitely would not recommend, and definitely wouldn't go back if I find someplace else I can find a damn cannoli in this city. read more

My wife and I just prepared a frozen Lasagna dish from their establishment made by their people and it was quite expensive for noodles and tomato sauce. With the cost factor aside it tasted like old hamburger that was setting too long in a freezer. Toledo, don't waste your hard earned money buying the hype over the sub-standard, over priced food they sell. Very poor quality... I hope I don't get food poisoning. read more
