Unfortunately, the appointment didn't start well--the doctor arrived almost an hour late, which set a negative tone. When he finally saw me, the consultation felt rushed, as if he was hurrying to catch up with other patients he'd kept waiting. While he was open to discussing treatment for my low testosterone, I asked for additional blood work to ensure a thorough evaluation. I also mentioned a specific medication I was interested in, commonly used for treating central hypogonadism. They drew my blood, and the nurse informed me that the results would take about a week. However, after a week passed without any follow-up, I had to call the office myself. I found out that the results were already in, but no one had reached out to inform me. During the follow-up, the doctor explained that my testosterone levels were technically within the normal range. However, I'm in the 1st percentile for my age, meaning 99% of men my age have higher levels. My levels were just barely above the threshold considered "normal" and didn't even meet the American Urological Association's (AUA) recommended post-treatment range for testosterone, which is 450-600 ng/dL. The AUA advises evaluating symptoms, not just numbers, and suggests aiming for the higher end of the normal range for treatment. My results fell below this threshold, which was frustrating. Why is it okay to boost someone's testosterone to this range, yet if someone's baseline is below it, they're still considered "normal," and on top of that, I had three prior tests showing below-normal levels? Despite my medical history and multiple previous lab results showing low testosterone, the doctor dismissed my symptoms--no libido, low motivation, and lack of energy. I was very clear that I've experienced these symptoms for over a decade. I explained that three out of four tests from the same lab showed below-normal levels and that my medical conditions likely contribute to my low testosterone. However, he based his decision solely on the most recent test and disregarded my history and symptoms. I've decided to find a provider who will take a more comprehensive look at my health. I hope this clinic can improve its communication and approach to patient care, especially for those who need specialized treatment.

While in the waiting room, the staff was asking some intimate questions of patients checking in with no regard for privacy. Doctor Johnson was competent and prepared having already reviewed ultrasound and bloodwork before joining me in the exam room. We agreed that surgery was appropriate. There was a dedicated "scheduler/coordinator" who scheduled the operation at the downtown Nashville Urology Associates Surgical center. I showed up at the appointed time at the downtown Nashville surgery center -- and was informed that the surgery had been cancelled because of some approval not received. It is fine that there was an issue with approvals -- that happens. Cancelling the surgery WITHOUT letting me know -- is not OK. The people at the desk said it was not their fault. It was the fault of the doctor's office. Always good to know that people are willing to be accountable and responsible. So no surgery.. but at least I could now have my Morning coffee. And the coffee station in the waiting room was filthy and sticky. If the stuff you can readily see is filthy and dirty maybe it's just as well that I did not get the surgery there. I have switched providers.

Since she retired, though, it's been really frustrating. Now I can only get appointments with a physician assistant. I recently tried to move my Friday appointment in May to something sooner, but no one answered the phone and my voicemail wasn't returned. I called again today, left another message, and finally got a callback. When I asked to see a doctor instead of the PA, I was told I have to see the PA first before I can even get scheduled with a doctor. I was also told the PA is only in the office Monday through Wednesday. Then when I asked how I somehow have a Friday appointment in May, I found out it's actually at the Franklin office--which no one mentioned when it was booked. On top of that, the online scheduling tool only shows PAs, not doctors, and the one I'm scheduled with doesn't even publish her schedule online in the booking tool. At this point, I'll be finding a different urologist. I just want to be able to schedule with a doctor without jumping through hoops or wasting extra time and money.

When I called LabCorp, they said they didn't even have the referral or the order sent to them. Now I have to follow back up with Female Urology a third time when they didn't do their job in the first place.
