He traversed our questions & worries all while being funny. Honestly, with issues that one may bring them to see a Urologist are often uncomfortable conversations, everyone made it "normal" that I was there in my young age for IVF. Wtf just happened? Man I went to this place to get some things figured out, and holy crow was that one of the most stressful, and unpleasant medical experiences I've ever had. First of all, when you go in there's like five windows to go to and only two of them are open, but... only one is where you go to pay. I went to the wrong window uh oh! I was met with such angst and felt like I shot the pope or something because the staff was so pissed off at me for going to the wrong window. Then.... You have to fill out this form on an iPad and the questions were... I just don't know what to say other than why do they need to know what gender my parents identify as? Then after being shaken up by that and also in pain I go into see who I like to call... Dr. Dude (Dr. Paul Knoll). So now I'm upset, stressed out, overstimulated and sweating bullets from the pain in my pelvis and beyond. I was dumb founded by the amount of advertisements for Viagra, and ads for Dr. Dude's webinar thing or whatever. Then... Dr. Dude comes in. Right off the bat he starts in with "drop your pants buddy" jokes which did the opposite of what I guess he thought would make an already uncomfortable situation better, just made it even more uncomfortable. I had a whole list of things I wanted to cover, and Dr. Dude wouldn't let me talk, thus establishing his "Doctor" status. He seemed particularly interested in my erectile distinction, and I found myself fighting to try and go over the other symptoms on my list which Dr. Dude by god was not gonna listen to because... ya know... he's the doctor. After grabbing my junk and making a few more jokes before telling me to cough, he told me to pull my pants back up and prescribed me Viagra. I then had to wait another 20 minutes looking at Dr. Dudes face all over the wall, medical models of the male reproductive system and lest we not forget... VIAGRA posters. Finally another doctor came in and I was taken to their little pharmacy in the lobby, where two more angry receptionists were talking about how fat a previous patient was, they told me to wait for yet another doctor to get my Dr. Dude prescribed VIAGRA. After sitting in the lobby, again for another 20 minutes, I noticed a few of the same people that were there when I came in earlier were now asleep in the lobby. Finally I realized how goofy this whole thing was and I left to celebrate my birthday. So all that to say I'm 80 bucks broker, more bitter towards the healthcare system, and no answers to my problems. Im sorry, but getting a boner is the least of my worries right now. If I could give negative stars I would. Instead, I will offer my personal experience with Dr. Knoll and Urology Associates. [[HIGHLIGHT]]1st appointment - found out when I showed up for my appointment that Dr. Knoll was called away for emergency surgery (understandable) but nobody called me to let me know. Ended up seeing a NP who was less than helpful[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. 2nd appointment - got to see Dr. Knoll who kept me waiting in the exam room for 30 minutes. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When he DID show up he was extremely hurried, spent little to NO time answering my questions, gave a flippant response to the condition I was seeing him for and hurriedly walked out while I was trying to ask him a question.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]3rd appointment (today) - 1 month follow up (supposed to be a virtual one) to last appointment. After waiting 20 minutes I finally called the office to inquire why I haven't received a call[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The person who answered the phone contacted Dr. Knoll and told me he would be calling me "in between surgeries" and continued by telling me the appointment timeframe was between 10:00 and 2:00. When I asked why I was given a 9:50 appointment that I confirmed TWICE and no attempt was made to let me know that it was just a "placeholder" I was told "he will call between surgeries" and to answer my phone even if it came from a "strange number" as he isn't sure where he'll be when he calls[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. 4th appointment - ANYWHERE other than this Dr. and this clinic. I went here and was miss diagnosed by Dr. Elizabeth Schiftan and her inept assistant, Santana. They dipped someone else's urine and proceeded to order tests and scans. This office is dirty, smells, staff are very unprofessional. Santanas hair dipped in one of the many open urine containers on the counter. She was also in jeans and a t shirt in a clinical setting. I've spoken with the Managment and nothing is being done about the mismanagement of my care. Do not go here. Anywhere else is better. read more

Takeaways - Don't come to this location unless you want to WAIT and front staff are curt and rude. Stand behind the red line but they cannot see you because they have their windows slammed shut. You cannot win with them. If you're appointment is at 1p you won't get back until about 2:30-3p. And then you wait even longer in the back while they go to lunch and run errands leaving you alone. As I sit here with my father going on 1.5hrs, I am contemplating life in general. And all things that come with not putting up with being less than important in life. There is nobody to be seen anywhere. What I can tell with the upgraded facility is there is a lot of money in cancer and allowing patients to not get well from it. I won't post it but the room we sat in for over an hour AFTER our two hour wait up front is right by the nurses station with patient personal info and a computer wide open. All your personal information up for grabs for anyone to take a peek at. Now had I not been left to go through the entirety of the facility because EVERYONE was at lunch, I wouldn't have noticed this...but as it is, this facility seems to have a HIPAA issue. If we had not already had a year of our lives sucked out of us by this facility and multiple doctors I'd have left already. **Update 08/02 - thought I would wait to post this for the next appointment to see if anything changed. Nope, still a long, crazy wait, GNATs everywhere and I'm having to listen to them yell at people about that stupid red line over and over again. Be more compassionate these people are fighting for their lives here. I have to do this and the longer they make me wait to more chances I lose my job because I should be working. You are at your job, I am having to take time away for this. If you schedule an appointment at 10:30a, you are obligated to see that person BEFORE you go to lunch. If you schedule an appointment at 1:00pm, don't tell them "well you won't be seen until 2p", then not get them back until after that. I went to them 7 days after going to ER , I had confirmed case of a UTI from a culture. They should of done a culture on me, instead, they did something like a urinalysis, which they said was clear, likely from the antibiotics i was still on. 7 days later my symptoms came back, I go back, they supposedly did a culture, this time it took 4.5 days for them to contact me, and future they refused to prescribe me the antibiotics while we wait, and I already knew an antibiotics that was effective. Guess what they said I had no infections. Well I went to a different doctor, I have a culture from Quest Labs, showing I have a bad infection. came here for a vasectomy for my partner, currently pregnant the first thing this doctor says is "are you sure" and then said my baby could die and then started talking about multiple horrible things that could happen to me, why on earth would you tell a pregnant woman that??? and then they told us all we had to pay was 150 for it and to secure the appointment so we did and we were on the phone with them 3 different times before the appointment and asked them twice if there was anything else that needed to be or still needed to be paid, they said no every time and then the day of the appointment they say we owe like 900 up front when his insurance covers part of it they just didn't bill them and then said "oh we can't give the 150 back bc we tried to call and the voicemail was closed" we never got a call and the voicemail isn't closed. This three hour office visit was probably one of the biggest waste of times I have ever spent. After nurse practitioner Hall totally dismissed me and told me that I have no issues she sent off the culture and I did have an infection. She then called in an anabiotic. I completed the anabiotic and could tell I still have an infection. I called the office to see about getting more antibiotics or even an office visit and was totally dismissed again. Procedure was scheduled 3 weeks in advance and I got no information on how to prep for the procedure until I called. They finally returned my call and gave me instructions on when to stop eating and drinking to take Fleet to have someone to drive me home and then I would need to take medicine and they were going to call in a prescription. When I went to pick up the prescription they had not contacted my drugstore. Finally got the prescription filled. Took one tablet 2 days before the procedure as instructed then I got a phone call seen the insurance had denied my coverage. Procedure was rescheduled because of this . Call my insurance company to find out what the problem was and it turns out they were late in talking to my insurance company to get approval and the time window the insurance company set up lasted until the day of the procedure. Then I will send a packet of instructions which was four pages long not for line items like they had originally told me. I told them I was going to be one of the three pills short that they had originally prescribed to me and they said they would send in a new prescription. Went to pick it up and it wasn't there call back to Urology Associates they said that because of the Cipro that I only needed to take two pills that were not the same prescription as the first one. Went to the drugstore to get them they had not called the drugstore called back to Urology Associates they said they said because of Cipro I didn't need any additional medicine. Ask why they didn't call me and save a trip to the drug store they said well we don't know who told you that. Never mind it was on a landline from Urology associates. While they were prepping me getting ready for the procedure they shaved me and taped me and put tape on my genitals. When Dr. Alberic Rogman finished the procedure and they remove the tape and it was the worst pain that I believe I've ever had because of the adhesive sticking to me. As I was yelling with pain the doctor was leaving the room and he turned and said something to me that was totally off track trying to change my attention and I told him it wasn't working and it hurt. I was always under the assumption that a doctor should not cause any harm or any pain and I definitely was put into extreme pain. And it's just because that's the way they've always done it doesn't mean that doctors Across the Nation could not come up with a procedure that did not require taping my genitals with adhesive tape for a procedure. I have thought about it and come up with a few things that could be done very easily to change this to eliminate all adhesive touching any genitals. Imagine getting diagnosed with prostate cancer and finding out Dr Hawkins will only discuss additional findings on Friday's, because "that's just when it's convenient for him". Then calls you from a private number. Tells you I can communicate with him through the portal. He never responds, and his NP gives 1 sentence answers to "why haven't we discussed all options?" Make sure you know everything, like what about CyberKnife? They don't offer it because their group doesn't have one. Terrible experience! read more

These are the rudest people I have ever dealt with. 1st off, I cant pay cash (check or charge) for any services. When I ask "why?" I am told "It's our office policy." No one has ever been able to explain to me WHY you cant self pay for services. When my wife tried to make an appointment, they refused to make one because they are out of network. DO NOT GO HERE if you can help it. Seems like fraud if you cant explain your billing policy. I know several Doctors and they would rather self pay as they get paid at the time services are rendered and do not have to wait 30-120 days for insurance to pay them. The office manager I spoke with was condescending and rude and frankly, an idiot. I guess the first 3 times she told me I would have to pay more due to out of network and my response was "I understand that, I am willing to pay the full balance so out of network coverage is fine" she felt the need to continue to tell me that we could not self pay. The front desk and billing staff get negative two stars thus this rating for the average. If you are even considering using Urology Associates you should know your health insurance plan very well and be able to contact them for questions. Throughout this process, I was told four times that I had copays which did not actually exist including one for $300. At one time, I was told I could not see the doctor until I paid the front desk and that even if they spoke with my insurance and were told how to correctly bill it and that there was NO copay I STILL could not see the doctor unless I paid the front desk. I was also told to go to the surgery center despite me electing for local anesthesia. I showed up for my appointment (where they tried to collect $300 despite me having no cost per my insurance). I was told there was an error and I was forced to come back hours later. This cost me two Uber rides and a babysitter. When I did show back up I was told I had a $100 copay. I showed them my insurance benefits (showing no cost) and asked them to double check (it should be $0). They came back saying it was actually $150. I finally forced them to speak with my insurance who told them to bill as reproductive care and not outpatient surgery. I wasn't given an apology for 45 minutes of arguing or because they tried two force me to pay $150 unnecessarily. They just yelled at me to go to the back and see the nurse. Surgery itself was great and easy. My balls hurt way worse from dealing with the front desk. read more

Do not seek fertility treatment here. Dr. Flora was flippant, unprofessional, and sexist in his approach. He suggested that male fertility treatment was something women force "their husbands" into seeking. He also made sweeping judgments about my particular issues prior to any physical examination. His medical advice was to "run around naked" and change my diet. Awful. I sought another opinion from a fertility specialist in Chattanooga (Shridharani) who was thorough, professional, and able to offer clear medical options. read more

I had a very negative experience with Urology Associates. I'd should have expected it given the ratio of 1-star to 5-star reviews. I strongly recommend going somewhere else. I eventually left my 8AM appointment at 10AM without being seen by all the necessary staff. During that time I received a 5 minute consultation with the doctor and 10 minute consultation with the nurse practitioner. Eventually, I left after I was forgotten(?) in the patient room. I disputed the billing as Urology Associates wanted to charge me about $120 for the waste of my time. The practice's communication during this period has been very poor, at best. For example, the billing agency they failed to identify themselves as a 3rd party company and left me with the impression that I would not be paying the bill. With this in mind, I was pretty surprised when I got another bill. I won't do business with Urology Associates again due to their appalling customer service, lack of concern for their customer's time, and unacceptably poor communication. read more

I am very pleased with the care I receive from Dr. Hassan and his team, including Gerald Breeden at the Franklin office on Mallory Lane. HOWEVER, in the past year or so, getting a prescription refilled through the in-house pharmacy on Charlotte Pike in Nashville has gotten more and more difficult and frustrating. In the past, when working with Lynn, the pharmacist, I have always received prompt attention. She answered the phone, spoke to me and got the order out the same day. I don't know what has changed, but now, I can't get a human on the phone and have to leave countless messages asking for status, and follow up. When I receive a call back, the call does not address my questions or concern, simply says "I'm calling you back. Call me back." I don't need to speak to someone if they will just refill the prescription. If there is a problem, leave it in the message so I know what information you need. I'm frustrated and annoyed. I'm a pharmacy technician at a grocery chain. This is NOT rocket science. The pills come in a 90 count bottle. You don't even have to count them. Slap a label on, charge my card and have FedEx pick it up. It's Friday and I've been trying to get this done since Tuesday. read more

I just wanted to add some enthusiastic kudos to the Urology Surgery Center staff... --Dr. Whitson Lowe is my favorite doctor of any ilk, bar none!   He's relational, informative, highly skilled, experienced and, dare I say, fun to talk with.  If we both didn't have such busy and divergent lives, he's the kind of guy I'd love to hang with at Starbucks. --There was also an instant connection with Nurse Melissa.  I felt like I'd known her for years.  She was very professional yet personable (and funny!). --Nurse Megan was very friendly and really knows how to glide an IV into an arm without even a twinge. --Assistant Will: a great guy who made me feel at home. So, all of this was a great surprise.  I didn't think I'd actually enjoy having a prostate biopsy!   But the staff made the visit a very positive experience.   The only thing missing was milk and cookies.  (Though I did enjoy the sedation solution.) read more

My man recommended this office, and scheduled an appointment with Dr. Mitchell Wiatrak for my dad. Here are the things that sets this office apart from the rest: 1. They don't call you back like cattle. One on one interaction with the patient & nurse. 2. The nurse was very sweet with my dad. He was nervous and she could tell so she eased his worries with kind words and a little joke that made him laugh. 3. Doctor came in and sat down and was straight with my dad. Didn't beat around the bush or fill his head with so much he wouldn't remember. He was on point, gave him answers and solutions to his worries. After getting the run around from Vanderbilt, this was refreshing. It was as if Dr. Wiatrak knew how to deal with him in the way he needed. I love doctors like this. A doctor can be straight forward but still have a wonderful bedside manor. Upon leaving everyone was so nice. When we left my dad said he liked this doctor better, he felt like he gave him more confidence and his gut told him that he was the doctor he needed. He was VERY impressed with him. This made me very happy. Watching my dad stress out for the past 3 weeks, to seeing him more relaxed after seeing Dr. Wiatrak has made it easier on me as well. Finding out you have cancer is never easy and very scary, but when you have a staff & doctors that are kind, patient, and understanding they make it a little easier to cope with. This speaks volumes! Not only did I wait almost 1.5 hours after my scheduled appointment to finally be seen, but I was told to follow up through the "Follow My Health" app. It is laughable at the ignorance in the reply's from the what I can only assume minimum wage employees who don't know what they're doing. The professionalism I received at Uroloogy Associates was wonderful. Every one from the front desk to the nurses and especially to Dr Able were so kind and helpful to me. I recently had been diagnosed with a kidney stone. And if ever had one, you know how badly they hurt. Sometimes you can pass them, others, not so much. The office added me on the next day for a stone removal and off we went. The surgery was very successful only with a couple of hiccups. My urologist here is great, but the staff and operations of this place is not efficient. I started seeing my doctor in December 2016 under one insurance plan. In February 2017 I got a new insurance that this office said required a referral. My referral from my old insurance plan was not covered. I called my current insurance carrier and they said that is not an issue and I could see my doctor. Even with that said, the staff held me up for 2 hours at my last appointment even after I called my insurance carrier multiple times getting the same answer. Why they wouldn't call? I don't know. It seems like they were too busy to deal with me. The doctor finally saw me and they were paid. They asked me to schedule a follow up and I saw my primary doctor a couple of days later so he could send over a referral. Fast forward to June 2017 when my follow up was scheduled. I received a call 3 days prior to my appointment that I need a referral again to see my urologist. They said I need one for every visit. I asked why and they said the insurance required it. When I called my insurance they said this is not true since I've already been referred and it's a follow up appointment that they asked me to schedule. I don't understand why I have to go through an extra step of seeing my PCP to get a referral to see my urologist for a follow up appointment when even my insurance is not requiring it. It seems to me the staff has protocols that need some updating or they need to take some extra time to figure out different situations. In short they need to do their jobs because clearly they are not. They like to blame the insurance company, but even they seem to be on my side with this. Just be prepared to be extremely frustrated when dealing with insurance coverage with this office. I'm not planning on going back anytime soon unless I feel like I'm dying! For me it doesn't get any better . Dr Workman and his entire team are outstanding. The hardest thing about UA is getting through traffic but the reward of care, concern and competent professionals with respect to Urological medicine is outstanding. I have a difficult condition and traveled a considerable way and will continue to do. Highly recommend the staff makes you feel comfortable even though you know the treatments and exams are not something always pleasant. read more

Can't say enough good things about this practice group. I had been to ER one weekend, then became much, much worse the next Tuesday. Even though I had never been seen in this office, they made me a same day, emergency appointment. Through careful analysis of my situation and appropriately aggressive treatment, I think they kept me out of the hospital. Efficient, pleasant and patient oriented. I had a very disappointing experience with Urology Associates. I went in because I was having some issues and have a history is kidney problems. In addition, I am also pregnant so I was extremely concerned about the well being of my baby. I had a very brief meeting with the doctor and he suggested that I get an ultrasound of my kidneys, in addition to scheduling a procedure set for the following week. Both the doctor and the nurse confirmed that I would be given a phone call to discuss the results of the ultrasound before deciding whether or not to continue on with the procedure. My insurance did not cover this and I was limited with anesthesia options since I was pregnant, so I wanted to be sure that this was absolutely necessary before continuing. No one called me to discuss my ultrasound results (which were considered elective by my insurance co. & expensive). I called, continuously, for a week but every time I was told that the doctor was busy and would call me back. He called back one time, days later, & unfortunately I missed the call. Finally, my father called, after over a week of my trying to reach the doctor, and I ended up receiving a call back. He began by saying "What can I do for you?". It felt insensitive. I thought that would have been pretty obvious...Then he continued to tell me that, based on the ultrasound, one of my kidneys was in severe condition and may not be functioning at all. I would think that this would warrant a more urgent response to my calls and voicemails. I was extremely concerned and decided to move on to another practice in hopes of receiving more appropriate care. After seeking a secondary opinion, I learned that what the doctor told me was completely wrong and my condition was not as critical as he made it seem. All this to say, his blasé approach was not only inappropriate but also ended up costing me quite a bit of money. I had to pay for his service, an elective ultrasound, and then an appointment with an additional doctor to finally get the answers I needed. I called Urology Assoc. twice to address this issue with the manager to see if there was anything that she could do about the $152 payment but never received a call back. Long story short, go to a more reputable institution, especially if you feel that there is any sense of urgency.
