It's not fair and it's not right after I sat there for 2 hours and they allow people to come in and get the other people four and five people at a time so you're sitting there waking your f****** time. New York Common Pantry at 109 Street is my favorite food pantry in my hood…read more The experience at this or any food pantry is much different for someone that's donating and the individual that is seeking a donation. I'm fortunate that I go here to donate canned and other non permissible items. Now my daughter just informed me that they have a partnership with Fresh Direct. They take the reusable bags that she keeps accumulating from our weekly grocery delivery. We're going to bring them as soon as weather warms up. Another reason we can assist our local food pantry besides our food donations. I really appreciate their hard work and dedication to the community.

World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families,…read moreand their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice (taken from their website). This Bronx warehouse is one of their "Storehouses", a donation distribution center where donated goods are received, sorted, stored, and ultimately given away to the individuals and communities that World Vision serves. I signed up to volunteer with a group on a Saturday. Upon arrival we watched a short video about the mission of World Vision, and then got to work in the warehouse organizing personal hygiene kits that were to be given away to local homeless men. Everything was very organized and the World Vision staff made it very easy for us to get right to work. When we'd depleted one palette of soap or shampoo, another one was right behind it. The task was rather tedious but good conversation, jokes, and a shared feeling that what we were doing was important and meaningful kept us going through the afternoon. It was hot in the warehouse, of course, but there was a big fan and no complaints from the group. We all had a great time and it was worth the sweat. I would recommend World Vision to any small group or an individual looking for a volunteer project. The only real downside (if you can even call it that) is that because you are working in a warehouse of donated goods, there is no direct contact with the people you are ultimately serving. If you appreciate that face-to-face contact, this might not be the volunteer project for you. On the other hand, though, it allowed us all to talk a lot and I walked away with some new friends.

The need is immense in todays trying and expensive times. In addition to that they are helping to avoid clothing going into landfills. After volunteering here I will kindly recommend that you wash all clothing before donating. Volunteers will sort through to make sure only clothing with no rips/stains move on to be donated. All other clothing gets sent to a facility to be used in textile recycling or thrift store use which the organization receives money for so they can purchase much needed clothing items.

I couldn't have been more relieved and excited that the young mothers were literally taking the books i donated. The coordinator Ruth is responsive and fabulous to communicate with on donations. She really cares about getting the resources the residents need. Also if you donate what they need , you are donating directly to the people who need the items. It goes on right on the table and they start taking what they want. Our 3 1/2 week stay at the Ronald McDonald House was nothing short of extraordinary. Our son Ethan…read morewas in an accident. After 4 surgeries to try to save his foot, he ultimately underwent a below the knee amputation. During what has been an incredibly stressful and overwhelming time for our family, we were welcomed into a place that felt warm, supportive, and truly comforting. From the moment we arrived, the staff and volunteers went above and beyond to make us feel at home. Their kindness, compassion, and attention to detail did not go unnoticed--they created an environment where we could focus on what mattered most, knowing that everything else was taken care of. The house itself was beautifully maintained, clean, and thoughtfully organized. Every space--from the kitchen to the common areas to the private rooms--was designed to provide comfort and a sense of normalcy. The meals, amenities, and little touches throughout the house made a huge difference in our daily lives. What stood out most was the friendliness and compassion of the entire staff. Phil, Jitka, Barbara, Tara, Brylee, Ana, Katheryn, Krista, Ashlyn, Karen- we love you all. Ethan celebrated his 21st birthday at the house. The staff was thoughtful and gracious enough to get him a card and gift. We sincerely appreciate your kindness. We are deeply grateful for everything the Ronald McDonald House provided us--comfort, care, and a true home away from home. It is an incredible organization that makes a meaningful impact on families when they need it most. We will never forget our experience and cannot thank you enough.

What an amazing place for families that need their services…read more I remember growing up and seeing the donation house at several McDonald's locations. To be honest, sometimes you just don't know if your donations will go to the organization unless it is on a big platform. However, I was able to see that this place has provided accommodations, supplies and meals to my sister so she can stay close to the hospital to care for her newborn. I can donate to this wonderful organization cheerfully because I have witnessed what they do for countless families. Everything they need is provided for them at no cost which is simply amazing.
