Family photo at Yukon Sign with lovely Ella

My family and I booked the 5 Hour Private Yukon Border Tour end of May 2022 and I have to say this was one of the best tours I have taken. Raymie, was amazing from our first contact to the day of our excursion. She explained everything and answered all of our questions. The excursion itself was amazing. She tailored it to what we wanted to see and what we were interested in allowing us more time for some things. Her knowledge of the history of Skagway and Alaska was amazing. Also, she made sure we had time to go into town for shopping and made sure to tell us all the best places to go for the best food and deals. Raymie treats you like family and we feel she is a new member of ours. The cherry on the on sundae is Raymie's dog Ella who joined us on the tour. She is an abosulete delight and a sweet bonus on the tour. Next time in Skagway we are booking Midnight Sun Excursions with Raymie to take the 7 hour Emerald Lake Tour. Thanks again Raymie.

He was quick and efficient in taking photos for everyone on the bus at each of the stops. We were a bit cautious of his driving. I understand he is quite familiar with this drive, but given the weather and often poor visibility we had on the drive, and the size of the bus, he seemed to be driving a bit fast, even passing other buses on the drive. Our tour stopped at the Yukon sign where we actually had some clear skies we could see the mountains in the background. On our return, we stopped at a rural dog sled training camp. We visited the puppies and got to play with them. We were here for almost 2 hours. It felt like our time here was never ending. It would've been nice if the owner came over to say "hi" and talk a bit about dog sledding and the competitions she competes in. Some in our tour group paid extra to take a dog sled ride which was basically the dogs hooked up to a large golf cart with everyone piled into the cart. Not impressive, glad we didn't do it. But we had to wait around for those that did pay for that extra feature to get their ride so we were there for almost 2 hours. It felt like our time here was never ending. To sum up our tour, we spent 4 hours in a bus driving through the Yukon range and seeing the puppies. Not sure if we would do this again if we return.

We booked with Kate by email, and she helped us adjust the tour so we didn't go to the suspension bridge since I am afraid of heights. He took us up to Canada, the same route the train takes. He stopped a few times for us to take pictures and wander around at the waterfalls and lake. On the way home, Jay found a bear along side the road eating the dandelions and turned around - the bear crossed the road, but it was so much fun to see him up close and just loved it!! He also took us up to see the sled dog mushing camp, which was wonderful. We pet the puppies and saw them pulling a sled. It is run by a sledder, and we learned a lot about it from a professional. We also saw mountain goats and eagles. AND it did take more than 4 hours, which should have cost more, but we were having so much fun and I think he enjoyed our group too, and he didn't ask for more money, but should have if we had known ahead. We were having so much fun that I didn't realize it had been 5 hours instead of 4 until it was nearly over - so we tipped him more to try to make up for it, - but it was amazing and fun, and we loved every minute!! I can't praise this company enough. They were wonderful and flexible, and so much fun!!

Maya, our hostess, was phenomenal: engaging, funny, knowledgeable about the history, and made the trip even more enjoyable than when I originally rode this train ( regular passenger) a decade ago. Scenery was amazing, history interesting, and the food ( particularly the cream puffs) fantastic!! Lived my Maya Mimosas too! Make sure you book our trip, whether it is regular fair or for the parlor car ASAP as a quickly fill up.

The…read moremountains, waterfalls, and landscapes make for a very enjoyable ride, and the onboard narration is friendly and informative. My only disappointment is the value for the price. We booked directly through the railway's website and paid $155 USD per person. Guests who book through cruise ships can pay around $240 USD per person, which is even more difficult to justify. For a 2.5-hour train ride at this price, I expected a more premium experience. The scenery alone is wonderful, but beyond that there isn't much included. It would be nice if they added thoughtful touches like a complimentary mimosa, local pastries or desserts, or other small amenities that would make the experience feel more luxurious and memorable. I want to be clear--I'm not complaining about the views. They are stunning and definitely worth seeing. I just don't feel that the overall experience matches the premium price. If the ticket were more reasonably priced, or if more value were included, I would happily rate it 4 or even 5 stars.
