Fiending for oysters whilst strolling out in the Williamsburg, my friend and I were seduced by the sign for $1.50 oysters for HH outside and ventured inside. I'm glad we did because everything we ordered tasted great, the service was superb, and they were playing some great music (mix of chilled out hiphop and mellow electronica). Ordered a dozen oysters, an order of mussels, and herb fries. It took a while for the food to come out but the seafood was fresh and the order of mussels was huge. Love this place. The first time I came I did the tasting menu with my husband and we were so so impressed by the quality and presentation of the food. It stuck in my mind for months and I finally went back the other day with a girlfriend for a drink and a snack. Been here a couple times, cool atmosphere. But the last time I came I had terrible service from the bartender. He was very short and annoyed anytime I spoke to him. It was early in the night and not busy but he seemed very frustrated on any question asks and even made snark comments. I ordered the Pistol Pete's cocktail, which consisted of organic apple cider, bourbon, cinnamon, cloves, lemon, and orange. Was the perfect beverage and so fitting considering the frigid weather. The playlist was fantastic, best music I had heard in a bar in a while. Classy and yet friendly, Midnights is the cocktail bar you want to go to for lively but still intimate celebrations. The bar was clean and spacious with plenty of bar seating and couches on the side. I only had one drink, the Salma Hayek, but it was well balanced and thoughtful, and definitely kept me intrigued with the citrus balanced out by the smoke from the mezcal. So I ordered to complete French fries with truffle oil (12$) as I was still hungry. The fries didn't get a truffle taste at all, neither the sauce !!! The weren't that good too ! The patio is beautiful, we were a party of 6 girlfriends who wanted a place to catch up and talk and our patio corner table was PERFECT! We were only amongst two or three other small parties and service was incredibly slow. Started with the blackberry ricotta corn muffin--very good (it's hard to mess up a muffin) but took nearly 20 minutes to come out. The menu initially attracted us to the establishment--and interesting take on brunch favorites, however they did not deliver. Pulled Pork Benedict consisted to too much hollandaise and large pieces of pork that lacked flavor. The greens, eggs and ham frittata was fine but they overdid it on the crème fraîche. read more

Ordered 1/2 dz oysters, mussels and vegetable dumplings to start.. all three were brought out together. (le sigh) Oysters were fine, dumplings tasted frozen and were pretty non-memorable. The mussels were the only saving grace although the waitress forgot to put in the fries and so they arrived when we were pretty much done. General Tso/inspired half chicken was also half decent but too heavily doused in its soy glaze. Waitress asked if I wanted another drink - I said yes, but didn't really matter as she never brought it over. Also, they have a full on DJ for dinner service. Not greasy typical bar food but well prepared and flavored. The stand out dish was the red curry mussels, they were incredibly tender and flavorful. Oysters were good as was the cauliflower hummus. If you're in Williamsburg and looking for a cute restaurant with private outdoor garden seating to grab afternoon drinks, this is your place. My friends and I were walking around nonstop trying to find a place that had space and that had outdoor seating. This place popped up on Yelp and it just so happened that we beat the crowd by a good half hour and we had the whole outdoor garden/patio area to ourselves for a hot minute. We ordered the shared frozen drink Yojimbo ($25, can serve ~3 people), which to our surprise, didn't come in a pitcher, but instead in just a larger vessel (actually a fish, which we thought was hilarious and so millennial!) with 3 straws. The drink was so good and I definitely recommend that for a lighter sweet summer cocktail. Service was super attentive and was great about keeping our water glasses filled on a hot summer day. Also a burrata for around $14 with great heirloom tomatoes and melon scoops. It was good! But... imagine spending $20 for a burger in Queens.. how much would you expect then? It's surprisingly small and there is a DJ. The environment is nice, only slightly contrived (more than I can say for most places around here). The prices are higher than I would do regularly and it wasn't incredible enough for me to yearn for it. You can't go wrong, but I won't come back. read more

Oh, Midnights! How I love thee. Let me start by saying I don't venture to Brooklyn frequently; however, I went for dinner last night and in a few hours I'm going back for brunch. There aren't enough compliments in the world. There is so much love and thought in each aspect of the restaurant that it feels like a classic already. From start to finish this place is incredible. The decor, drinks, food, service, crowd... It's everything you could want in a restaurant. Last night we had the hamachi crudo, oysters, chicken, short rib, tortellini, a couple bottles of wine, some White Girl Wasteds, and a Giant Julep in a Giant Cup and EVERY SINGLE PERSON lost their minds! It's so unbelievably delicious and balanced... I wish I could high-five every person in the kitchen. The back patio is delightfully understated; it's intimate without being overwhelmed by the crowd. My only complaint is this: I don't live upstairs and I can't have every meal here. Thank you to everyone at Midnights for giving New York City the fabulous spots she deserves! Our server was also really nice but the price overall is expensive for the amount/quality of food. The biggest disappointment was that they charged our 11-person group ~ 3.7% Credit Card Processing fee (we only paid with one card)-- which is indicated at the bottom of their menu but I have never been charged this fee from any restaurant before, so that was a bit of an unpleasant surprise. If you are venturing around Williamsburg, this is a great place to try out, especially for happy hour. The Oyster happy hour is amazing with the oysters being fresh and so tasty! The also have homemade hot sauce which is petty good as well as the blend of the mignonette. Spinach & Artichoke Flatbread- Bigger than I thought it would be and loaded with toppings. Very filling so be careful if you try eating a dozen oysters first like me. Crispy Brussels Sprouts- I love when someone I'm with orders brussels sprouts that are so good I forget why I keep thinking I don't like them. This dish is super tasty and the feta adds a nice tangy flavor. Hanger Steak Skewers- Aside from the oysters, this was my absolute fave. The steak was cooked perfectly and the chimmichuri was just right! We only had an hour and someone managed to scarf all this down a long with a few drinks. This place is on the top of my list to go back to next time I am in Williamsburg. Heck, I may even make the trek just for this place! read more

Great food and vibes (swanky and chill) but slightly long wait. This is not only a great bar but has a yummy selection of food as well. We came in for dinner on a Saturday with a reservation at 9:30! Came a bit late but was seated quite quickly anyways as lots of tables were leaving since it was pass the dinner rush period. I ordered a Yojimbo and it tasted so damn good I wish it had just a tad more alcohol even though it was under the highball section. We also ordered the tuna tostadas. It hits multiple notes in a unique way. The pickled ginger provided a bit of bitterness, the seaweed and yuzu were sweet, the soy provided a good salty flavor while the avocado tied it in with its creaminess. The dish came in 4 which is a bit steep for 17. I had the eggplant milanese and I highly recommend it. The eggplant was fried perfectly (not too oily). The parmesan crema paired well with it as well as the heirloom greens. The salad had a delicious vinaigrette styled dressing, too. The lobster ravioli was also quite delicious. Wish the taste of lobster was a bit more intense but it paired well with the baby tomatoes and creamy sauce. The tostada and drinks came within 10 minutes of ordering but the entrees took an extra 35-40 minutes which was quite a long wait considering there were more people just drinking than ordering food as well. This place was one of the best brunch experiences I have had! Cane here for a friend's birthday and the service was impeccable. We sat in the covered back yard which was decorated with twinkly light and ample seating. We all got the pre-fixe($27) which includes one drink(cocktail or juice), one coffee and one entree. I got the avocado toast with turmeric poached egg with bacon on the side and it was divine. Perfectly toasted bread with perfectly seasoned avocado and decorated with tiny little edible flowers (aww) I also got a bellini which was yummy and the coffee was a good medium roast brew. Midnights is a cozy little restaurant right next to Bedford in the heart of Williamsburg. The restaurant/bar has a nice Art Deco feel to it. We ordered... The mussels to start with. Boy were these amazing. The mussels were really fresh and the sauce was really yum yum. The dish had an Asian/Thai style curry flavor to it and I would definitely recommend getting these to try. The Special burger (which came with a blue cheese and this amazing sweet/savory thick cut bacon) I asked for it to be cooked medium rare and medium rare is exactly how it came. This was one of the best I've had in some time. My partner ordered the quinoa salad with chicken. Nicely done but nothing special They charged me an extra 3 bucks for an additional serving of bread. This was slightly disappointing especially given they only gave us 2 slices for the mussels. -1 Cocktails were pretty good too :) read more
