Dr Ahn saw me while visiting nyc after a subway tripping incident; he thoroughly reviewed my broken front tooth situation, he saw an indentation in my tooth that either happened during my fall or was already there which would greatly affect his analysis, he asked if I had recent x-rays from Calif; I did, so we called and had them sent to Dr Ahn and within 10 minutes he said the indentation was already there and I could wait til I returned home to begin a crown process. I was told that Dr Ahn can do root canal when i met him on Saturday he told me Dr Lipner can do the root canal. I had to wait another two days for Dr. Lipner. Was very upset about this. upon meeting both they seem very reserved not explaining much at all just blank faces. they didn't even do X-RAYs instead they wanted me to pull an X-RAY from my previous dentist to show them from my phone. Lipner seemed nervous office staff is rude and bullys you instead of just disscusing the payment the office manager told me to get on my phone to download an app to get care credit. Instead of calling me into the front office she'd had me take care of my payment right on the surgery seat? Bad experience would not recommend. read more

I was greeted warmly upon arrival. Wait time was very short and I was seen almost immediately. Every aspect of the exam was explained in detail. The evaluation required and extra MRI like scan and I was given the option to proceed or not, as my insurance id not cover this. My dentist told me I needed a root canal because I had a dental fistula (gum boil) on my gums which meant I had an infection beneath the surface of my gum. When I was delivered this news, I was scared because I have heard the root canal procedure "kills" the tooth and is also an expensive procedure. I did so much research into root canals and watched so many videos that night that I started to convince myself that I didn't need a root canal but the x-ray was enough evidence and the gum boil would just keep coming back, like it did for the past 3 years. I had a root canal procedure at Midtown Endodontist with Dr. Chiyoon Ahn on November 2021 and I have nothing but good things to say about the procedure and Dr. Chiyoon's skill. On the day of the procedure, Dr. Chiyoon showed me the X-ray again and explained where the infection was and addressed all my concerns. A root canal doesn't kill the tooth but rather it removes the nerves inside the tooth that do not serve a purpose once the tooth has been fully formed. If you let the infection spread, you may actually end up losing the tooth which would be worse. I've been dreading this procedure all my life and I'm just really happy that Dr. Chiyoon put my mind at ease. Dr. Chiyoon made sure I was comfortable throughout the procedure, made sure that I was numb and didn't feel pain and was very skilled (I was watching through a small mirror reflection in the equipment). I had to have two visits because Dr. Chiyoon wanted to see improvement in my gum boil but there was no added cost which I am very grateful for. After this procedure, I immediately bought an electric toothbrush and have been diligently flossing everyday since then. As a child, my parents have always been suspicious of dentists but now, I make sure to be diligent in keeping up with my dental hygiene. I hope that I never need to have another root canal procedure in the future but if I ever do, Midtown Endodontist with Dr. Chiyoon is who i'll be looking for. I waited to post this review as I wanted to be absolutely certain that no other complications have come up! I highly recommend anyone on the fence about root canals to consider Midtown Endodontist and Dr. Chiyoon.
