Today I had the pleasure of dealing with Dr Ambre. It was time to let my 16 year-old Bobo go as she was no longer eating or drinking water. I was exceptionally nervous this time, even though I had been through this kind of experience before. Dr Ambre was incredibly accommodating to my state of mind and to how Bobo may or may not react. I was most impressed by how she encouraged me to keep talking and touching Bobo under sedation, had her sit in my lap for the final injection and then wrapped my sweetie up like a little burrito. I was grateful to be able to feel a real goodbye. Prior to this, I have used another mobile vet for similar needs. NEVER, ever, was I encouraged to have such a loving goodbye by that specific vet. Thanks so much to Dr Ambre. You honour your profession. read more
My daughter's dog suddenly deteriorated one morning, and her father made the call to have her put down. He put in a couple of calls to 2 different places. It was a Saturday, and the first quoted him over a hundred dollars higher, and said they had no availability left for the day. Midtown Mobile quoted over a hundred dollars less, and would be able to come out in about 2 hours. Well that was a no brainer to start. I didn't even know that this service was available whereby the vet comes to your home. How much better is that? Your pet isn't unduly stressed, and everyone can be there. Doggy was a 13+ year old German Shepherd, so she had a good run. The call taker asks some preliminary questions before the vet comes out. Dr. Kate arrived just before schedule and was kind, professional, patient, compassionate. She asked a few more questions and assessed doggy. She fully explained what would be involved. She gave some recommendations to make doggy comfortable and gave us as much time as we needed to spend for our farewells. She asked if we would be keeping doggy for burial, or needed her taken away. It was a 3 step process and for the first step, she asked if we wanted to feed the gel to doggy. It's administered by syringe and is absorbed in the gums. It's basically a sedative. My daughter's father took care of it and Dr. Kate explained what we could expect. The second step is an anaesthetic injection which would also make her drowsy. Dr. Kate shaved a little patch to find a vein and administered it. She gave a good 5 minutes to let it work, and again gave as much time as we wanted before proceeding with the final step. The last step is an injection to stop the heart. It was very emotional, but Dr. Kate was very kindly, gentle and careful. She waited several minutes watching and assessing. After a few minutes, she said she hadn't seen any breathing for some time, and physically assessed her to confirm. Once she could see we were ready, she asked whether we wanted a paw imprint and clippings for a keepsake. Absolutely, yes. She rolled out the clay and took the imprint. She asked whether we wanted clippings from any particular or special spot, or anything else in particular. She put the clippings in a little heart shaped tin with a clear lid, and gave us a package which also contained a little bookmark and pin, and a guide for grieving the loss of your pet published by the Ontario veterinary authority. For such a sad and emotional experience, it was a silver lining to have a professional like Dr. Kate handle the procedure. I would 100% recommend her service to anyone facing this difficult decision. read more

I had a terrible experience with Midtown Mobile Vets about a year ago. I was grieving the loss of my cat, so I didn't want to post a negative review in case it was my emotions talking. After much time has gone by, I have decided that it was still an awful experience, and I think it would be valuable to people who don't have much time left for their animal. My sweet kitty of 21 years was going to die very soon. I went to the Midtown Mobile website and filled out the online form, giving the details of our situation. We got an automated response right away, but over 2 weeks later, I still hadn't heard back from anyone there, so I finally emailed them and let them know that our situation was pretty dire, and asked what the timeline would be to expect to hear a response from them. I was rudely told by the person responding basically what their operating hours were, and I'd hear back from them during their operating hours. The tone was as if I had been hounding them for the appointment! I had waited for over 2 weeks; I thought I HAD been patient. I was already feeling so emotionally vulnerable. I couldn't believe how rude they were. And, to add: they never got back to me, ever!!!!! I ended up reaching out to another clinic who had someone respond to me within a day. The tone at the other clinic was kind and empathetic, but unfortunately because I had waited for so long for a response from Midtown Vets, the next appointment at the nice mobile clinic was too far away- our kitty wouldn't last that long. We ended up putting our kitty down at her regular vet- not the way I wanted this to go. It seems everyone loves this vet, but I still have a pang of anger and despair over how rude Mobile Vets were to me, and how they ignored me during probably the most painful time of my life. read more

I called Midtown Mobile and the woman who took my information and made the appointment was very kind and understanding. Dr. Lam arrived right on time. She was very kind, gentle, respectful and compassionate. She explained everything. Took her time and was very gentle with my Squeaker. She left lots of supportive information including an amazing poem about the kindness I was giving to Squeaker. I even received a condolence card a week later as well as an email the day after. I can't say enough about Midtown Mobile! I don't want to have to do this again but if I do, they will be who I call! Thank you Dr. Lam! read more

I'm grateful to the services offered by Dr Rachel Ellis and Midtown Mobile Veterinary Hospice Services for end of life care. Besides the care and concern shown by Rachel when she visited my home to ease Annie into death, she made a point of making two clay imprints of Annie's paw on her last day, so that I could give one to my son, who couldn't be there. She also followed up with emails and grief resources, and then a card that included my son's name, even though I had only briefly mentioned his name. The care felt so authentic, and was especially appreciated after the lack of care shown by the vet that Annie had seen for almost six years. The vet clinic also made a donation to OVC Pet Trust in Annie's name, which was a very lovely touch. The clinic also arranged for cremation and the cost included this service and the urn. read more

I highly recommend MMVHS. From the first phone call they were kind, supportive, compassionate & listened to my concerns. They just listened to me talk about my feline companion & how I couldn't believe how fast this was happening. They answered all my questions without hesitation. I never felt pressured to make a decision or to purchase anything. I immediately felt at ease when Dr Laura Kenzie arrived. She allowed me to take my time with Calvin, to choose the spot & decide when the time was ok with me. She even let me be with my boy afterwards until I was ready to physically let him go. I received follow-up emails from both MMVHS & Dr Kenzie. Dr Kenzie even spoke with me about how my other cat may respond to the lost of his brother. Encouraged me to reach out if I had any concerns about him. Treated the whole family & they made a very hard time much easier for myself, my family & my boy. Would recommend them to anyone facing this dilemma. Very Grateful read more

This clinic is despicable. Such a huge volume phoney review/rating set-up. They have caused a lot of harm and pain and there are many complaints we have heard, too late. We had devastating negligent services by them also and we will forever regret this clinic. read more

Beware. Toronto Mobile Vets and Midtown Mobile Vets are the same business. They also use third parties. During a phone call (Toronto Mobile Vet) they did not and would not provide the appropriate information (the procedure) for euthanasia by them when I asked for it. They said that information and details will be given when they get there. They were aware of all the circumstances and took advantage. They did not quote a price. They asked for credit card number. A vet came. I asked for information about what would happen. She said they were the only ones that did it that way. I asked what. What all would happen. I thought she told me, but as things progressed... I realized she had been vague. I was unsure, in pain, etc. She knew it. She waited until as she was progressing to tell me details that were very disturbing. She knew it. I simply cannot describe further all that happened to my baby and me. It is too painful. Horrific is too mild a word. I will never be able to live with it. They were notified on my behalf about it. There was to be no charge. This horrific event happened months ago. Then on May 5th I see a charge put through on my credit card for $762.75. For euthanasia, not done properly. No other services. I already had my own prearranged prepaid burial and plot where his sister is and where I and other family members will also be for when the time comes. I find these people shady and unethical. The worst thing, the horror they are capable of inflicting, recklessly and indifferently. I question their high ratings. There are quite a lot of bad reviews on both sites. Seems rather convenient that they went under different names. Also, there is no way I believe a 4.9 rating is legitimate. Also, most people are under the impression they are one "business". You do not know what you are going to get by their false portrayals. This case was not a case of a very deeply loved and loving pet passing away peacefully. It was the complete opposite of peacefully. Please don't let this happen to your pet and you. You won't be able to live with it. I will be filing formal complaints. When the vet arrived I told her some of the circumstances involved as to how and why my baby came to be in such a state and the vet wrote down some notes on the top of a page of paper. While my baby was in my arms frightened and I was in such an awful etc. state, she handed me the paper to sign. She handed me a pen and pointed where I should sign and as I was starting to look at it, she said that I didn't have to read it, just to sign. I could barely concentrate on that, but I asked her what it was and I tried to look at it. She got annoyed. She said to just sign it. I couldn't even see straight but I read a part where she had written into the space provided the cause/reason (or something like that) and I was shocked as it was contrary to what I just informed her. She said it didn't matter and I was put into an even deeper awful state. I again through tears tried to read it and I said to the vet it was not the truth what she wrote, that I had just told her some things. She said she jotted some notes at the top of the page as to that and to just sign on the line she was pointing to. As I moved the paper to be able to read what the notes said that she jotted down at the top, she actually covered it up with her fingers and said that I don't need to read that, that it was notes she would be putting in their computer later, and to just sign what and where she was pointing to. I said that I can't sign if it was not the truth. We had been through so much hell. My baby was hiding his face under my arm. I was in a very bad state. I took the pen and started to cross out and fix some of what she wrote before I signed, but she got annoyed, rushed me to sign it, she said it didn't matter what she wrote, that she would fix it when she wrote in computer later. I could not get the truth written there, especially in the midst of it all. It was awful. Then what happened. read more

I contacted Midtown Mobile when our elderly cat took a turn for the worse, stopped eating and had to be put on pain medication. I spoke with Barb who was very helpful explaining the end of life process with compassion and empathy. On her final day, the vet Lizete was patient and kind with the whole family. She gave us space to spend our last moments with our cat and keep her calm. Afterwards, she took a paw print and hair clipping for us to keep as momentos. Since then, we have received an email with support information for grieving the loss of a cherised pet and a condolence card. I can't say enough about MMVHS. It was the best thing we could do to end our cat's suffering and to help our children say goodbye. I highly recommend them if you have a pet who needs support at home during the last days or a compassionate end of life. read more

I contacted Midtown Mobile when my old girl no longer had that light in her eyes and stopped eating in her last few days. It is so difficult making this decision and hoping she could hang in there until her 19th birthday but it needed to be made. Everyone from the booking co-ordinator and onward showed amazing patience with me while I went back and forth trying to make a decision until finally I knew I had to for the sake of my pet. Of course it became an emergency call which they handled for me and the wonderful Dr. Ellis showed up at my door and took it from there. She was patient, listened to my reasons for making this decision and my cat took to her immediately. This service alleviated both my cat's stress and mine not having to sit in a busy vet's office waiting to have to say goodbye to a long time friend who received the peaceful goodbye she so deserved from my perspective. read more

Dr. Karen Stekel and Dr. Faith Banks were patient, compassionate, and helpful as we made the difficult decision to say goodbye to our very sick kitty. It's amazing that we had the option to spend our last hours & moments cuddling on the couch instead of fighting to get our kitty in a carrier and listening to her cry on the way to the vet. The cost was a little more than euthanizing at the vet, but not as much as I expected and definitely worth it for the comfort they provide. They also left us with some thoughtful keepsakes that we will treasure forever. read more

Mobile hospice veterinarian focusing on end-of-life care for geriatric and ill patients in Toronto. Compassionate in-home pet euthanasia and aftercare provided with focus on human-pet bond.
History
Established in 2012.
I feel the human-pet bond is strengthened as a pet enters their senior years. This is a time to support pet owners in making the right decision for them and their beloved pets. A pet that has lived a good life deserves to live with dignity at the end of their life. Palliative care, hospice care and in home euthanasia provided to dogs and cats to ensure the bond is not broken. Quality of life should be the underlying theme when discussing end of life issues and this requires in depth conversations with a veterinarian and pet owner. Assessing a pet in their home environment is very helpful when determining quality of life.
Meet the Business Owner: Faith B.
Dr. Faith Banks started Midtown Mobile Veterinary Services when she realized their was a need for pet owners to have the time and attention to help them with their pets' end of life issues. Quality of life should be as the forefront when discussing care for one's pet. I am passionate about end of life care for pets and helping owners understand the intense feelings of grief they are likely experiencing with anticipatory grief or will experience once their pet passes.

I was referred to Midtown Mobile Hospice Services by a friend who spoke highly of them after they helped her family say goodbye to their dog. I can't thank her enough for this recommendation. They were, indeed, exceptional. From the moment I placed the call, I knew I had made the right choice. In my distress, I did not catch the name of the person I spoke with to make the arrangements, but would like to thank her for her compassion and empathy at a very difficult time. Thank you also to Dr. Lizete Valdmanis who was absolutely lovely, so calm, caring and respectful. Scarlett got to eat cheese and peanut butter in her final moments and left earth-side peacefully, without feeling a thing ... the way she deserved after giving us so much love and joy. It is a comfort to us that she was happy in her final moments. We have sadly said goodbye to other fur babies before. The respect and dignity shown to Scarlett when she was placed on a stretcher and wrapped in blankets before leaving our house went above and beyond our expectations. We wish to thank Midtown Mobile for their compassion in taking care of our beloved Scarlett -and us. We will forever be grateful. read more

I highly recommend Midtown Mobile Vet. The whole team is very compassionate, highly knowledgeable, highly skilled, and of course very professional. We first asked them to come for a consult, because our dog was getting old, and we wanted to add a home vet to our roster for when 'that time' came. Dr Banks, who is up to date on pain management and other supports for a senior pet, tweaked our medication protocol, which, coupled with her suggestions for mobility management, gave us another full year with our guy. Then, when the dreaded time came to decide if/when to put him down, Dr Pechmann and Dr Stekel, as well as Barb and Jennifer in admin, made the whole process, go as smoothly and peacefully as it could possibly be. If you choose Midtown Mobile Vet, and I really do think you would be making an excellent choice, you will be assured of the highest standard of care, coupled with extraordinary compassion and support. read more

My beautiful Tugboat was suffering at the end of his life. My vet was located across town and they couldn't come to my place. I didn't want him to die in the vet office so they suggested Midtown Mobile. Thanks to Midtown Mobile, my best friend was able to pass away at home, in my arms, surrounded by those who loved him. The compassion and care Dr. Stekel showed him (and me) in his last hours was an incredible comfort. It was as if she'd known him all his life. The following day, she checked in on me to offer kind words and make sure I was okay. She truly cares about her patients and their owners. Dr. Stekel made his last hours so peaceful and beautiful. And while I'm still heartbroken, I will forever be grateful to her and the clinic for their dedication, professionalism and compassion. I highly recommend this service. read more

A wonderful service, highly recommend. My dear 15 year old dog was deteriorating quickly both physically and mentally. In April of this year, my husband and I made the decision for euthanasia. We wanted her to have the most painless, least anxiety producing end believing she deserved nothing less. We therefore wanted a vet to attend her in our home. Midtown Mobile proved to be a wonderful service. There staff was compassionate and helpful from the first call. The Veterinarian who came to our home, Dr. Sarah Pechmann was a lovely person and very supportive and helpful throughout this very difficult process. She is a highly skilled and compassionate professional and I am so thankful that she was there for us and more importantly, she was there and gave our beloved pet the best end that could be imagined. read more

Thank you so much to Dr Ellis for all you kindness shown to both "Tyson" and his family. We were looking for an alternative option when faced with the decision of euthanasia for our beloved Tyson due to age. From the very first response to our email, then by phone, to taking such good care of our best guy on May 14/19, 3 months short of his 18th birthday. From the moment you came into the house, you provided the best care for him, allowing us to say our final goodbye's to him numerous times. You provided a very caring, compassionate and peaceful memory for us to hold onto. I would recommend this as an alternative to anyone who thinking about this. I just can't say enough great things about this company. Thank you for providing this service. Laurie read more

Dr. Pechmann was so kind and gentle during this procedure. She explained every step she would be performing to gently ease our beloved Lucky to rest and the end of her suffering. She would ensure we had no questions and made us feel as comfortable as we could in this situation. It's the first time in days I saw serenity in Lucky's expressions. Although I held her during the procedure, Lucky was in Dr. Pachmann's sympathetic and gentle hands. Thank you for your service MMVHS and the doctor you provided to help my pet drift away from her suffering. Thank you Dr. Pachmann for your impeccable and cool demeanor during the procedure and for the clay paw and lock of fur you gave us to remember our precious girl. Thank you again ! read more
