Just located down the street from its original location which I just drove past and see it torn down. Sad sight to see that landmark gone. Well at least it is still around. Going to Midtown with the BF was something that he really enjoyed so much he took me there for my 40th, UP! Normally when we go he always get the steak and fries with loads of mushrooms and onions oh and don't forget the coleslaw. Me I like the fish and chips but have been known to have the steak everyone once inawile. Oh and the best is the draft, what a way to wash it down. Midtown is a spot that many go to enjoy after balls games as they are known to support the teams. TV line the walls and always have sports playing for the boys. Alot of people go to Midtown for the food but also you have to give it up for the long time staff that have been around for years serving great food and great drinks Cheers fellas!

After the tragic closing of the Pogue, it took a little while for trivia to find a new home. Then it finally settled here, at Midtown (which is also apparently Boomers but I honestly do not get that logic). It's a little rundown, a little beat-up, but this place has got heart, you know? The staff is super close, and they're helpful beyond words. The food is nothing to get super excited about, but the menu lists prices with tax included, and they have a three dollar grilled cheese that is everything you want it to be when it's late at night and you just need something to take the edge off your stomach. It's a good, honest place. They have regulars for a reason. There's history here. Also, a pretty swell grilled cheese.

No pens, no pads and no mistakes! This is a place with better service, better food, and a better atmosphere than almost anywhere else in the city. It's been around since 1949 and there's a reason the same customers keep coming back week after week as well as gaining new clientele. The staff don't write anything down when you place your order and they never make a mistake. When you ask for your bill it's all in their head. Everything on the menu is listed with tax and is always in multiples of 25 cents for easy cash payments and tips (and they certainly deserve the tips). There are daily specials including home-style foods like meatloaf, roast turkey dinner and a boiled dinner. If you want some pub food that's not a problem either, homemade hamburgers, wings, seafood, fries, ribs, even pizza. This place has it all. Many might have been worried about the move from their old location down the road where they had been for 50 years. However, if anything, this place is better than ever and they didn't lose a bit of their history by moving. It's still always busy, especially before a Mooseheads game or when the Leafs are on one of their new '46 flat screens. All the old furniture was brought to the new location when they moved up the road in August of '09. So when you walk in, despite the face-lift, you feel like you're walking into the same tavern that's been there for 50+ years. Not to mention a framed goodbye photograph of the old location which takes up a good portion of the back wall and is signed by hundreds of loyal customers. It's things like this that keep our server Lou working there for so long (25 years on October 22nd of this year) and customers coming back. This place not only creates traditions amongst friends and family, but it's a Halifax tradition itself.

Since it was windy outside, we decided to sit indoors, and the atmosphere was really lovely. I ordered the mussels and the lobster roll. The mussels were absolutely delicious, I honestly could have ordered another plate. The lobster roll, however, didn't quite impress me as much. I think mine may have had a little too much pepper, but it was still good overall. I've just had better before. Despite that, I really enjoyed my visit and would definitely come back.

It pains me to write this low review; if you look at my profile, I regularly write 5-star reviews…read more However, I've just experienced an extremely disappointing birthday experience. Having been to the Young Street Brown Hound location a dozen plus times, I decided to try the Agricola location for my Friday evening birthday dinner--a decision I quickly regretted. I arrived around 7 PM to a full house and sat at one of the two tables by the side entrance, as I was grateful to actually get a seat anywhere in this place. Initially, things started well- I got a server right away who took my order for an Island Folk Cider and the fish and chips. My food was dropped off about 20 minutes later, and the food itself was excellent, just as expected from my Young Street experiences. However, after my food was dropped off, I received zero service. I sat there for a further half an hour with an empty glass- no offer of another drink- and I missed out on ordering a coffee and dessert. Eventually, a different server came by to clear my plate, and I just asked for the bill. My original server finally reappeared with the bill and debit machine, featuring a 20% automatic gratuity already added. When I politely told her that I had received *zero* service after my food was dropped off and that it was my birthday, she was genuinely sincere and apologetic, even offering me a drink on the house. While I appreciated her offer, I declined because at that point, I just wanted to leave and go on with the remainder of my evening. * Management note: With this popular location, you appear to need to better staff your evenings so staff is not stretched from working front patio, back patio, inside, bar top, and outer entrance tables where patrons are forgotten about, which is understandable. The lack of service I received reflects solely on *you*, the management, NOT on the servers who are hustling full speed for minimum wages. The service levels at Agricola Street were laughably lower quality than at Young Street, which is also busy afternoons through evenings and is very popular, with multiple seating areas inside and outside the Young Street location. I will patronize Stillwell, Studio East, Chain Yard, and the Young Street Brown Hound for future outings that actually provide customer service to their customers, full house or not. 5 Stars for the food, and 2 stars for the sweet, apologetic server I had upon paying my bill--that's it. Never again, and I'll take my hard-earned money elsewhere in the future. Not that my review matters, in light of the popularity of your pub and its trendy location. Better places, food and service are nearby, friends...

Pool tables are a nice addition... I wasn't really sure what the $2 cover was going towards besides upkeep? A grungy/funky spot in the North End that's for sure!

Charlie's is where you go when you want to go to Cheers. (Not the Cheers on Grafton St., the Cheers on TV according to your 6 y/o mind, which is really just the the theme song, fuzzy visuals, and conflating real life people with Cliff and/or Rhea Pearlman.) In short, it's where you go when you come home nostalgic and want to see all your old friends, enthusiastically buy each other drinks like it's a genuine gift, dance to one of those weird new electric blue jukeboxes, shout and pontificate around a pool table, and generally have a back slappin, squeezey hugging, chortling little time. The decor is like any affordable house, only the door has a key code and a woman sits at a table with a guest book when you come in. This does not make you feel cool, but it does make you feel like life is funny. The bartender is so used to over-friendly drunk patrons that nothing can melt him. I imagine that deep in his core is something more kind than anything I have ever known, but it is too precious to be shared. The last time I came here, someone apologized for asking me to dance when I turned him down. Apologized. For my rejecting him. A dark little mineshaft to the salt of the earth this place is, lemme tell ya.

The chips were home made and delicious. We were the only people in there besides the few gamblers in the games room and the staff. He said he thought someone had already taken our order. All was good! My white hot restaurant rage slowly drained from my face. I was happy again. The reason it was just Okay was the super loud bros in the back, screaming about their weekend. I mean they were screaming. I felt like these guys might be regulars the way they were so comfortable here. I mean, I don't even scream in my own house. I'm never that comfortable. A lot of other tables were glaring over at them as well. Hello? Do you live here? Are you that confident that everyone in here wants to hear your conversation? Because I will bet my hard earned money they don't. They couldn't have been drunk, it was only 1pm on Sunday. Maybe they were drunk on VLT gambling. Who knows. All I know is, this place was full of regulars, at the bar, at tables, in the VLT room and I was uncomfortable. The Jenny burger was definitely worth all the uncomfortableness though. I added fries and coleslaw for only $3.50! This has to be one of the best pub burgers in the city.
