I'm going to summarize my experience with MEC and and let anyone who reads this come to their own conclusion as to whether this company provides sufficient or professional medical care to their patients. I rolled my ankle pretty badly and there was severe swelling and pain, so I went into the Lakeview East location to be assessed for severity and be given a treatment plan. When I was first seen, the physician's demeanor was fine / neutral, but also nothing that particularly instilled confidence in me that they were actively dedicated to do their best to diagnose and treat my injury. He prodded my ankle a bit but didn't verbalize what he was or wasn't seeing, then ultimately said "I mean there's no way to rule out whether there's a break unless we do an x-ray, but that's up to you". Despite the fact that this wasn't a particularly prescriptive pov, out of caution I agreed to do the x-ray. I also had to ask what degree of mobility I should aim for in the meantime as I am an active person and he said "do what you can, but don't try to run a marathon or anything". This was confusing to me as he suspected a potential break, yet told me it was okay for me to attempt activity. When he offered to wrap my ankle with an ACE wrap, I asked if there were any particular things I should know on how to wrap an ankle and he said "no, not really". Mind you, I am not a medical professional, but I have enough common sense to know that all of these responses were extremely non-chalant and not in the best interest of my medical care. After getting my x-rays done, the technician said the radiologist should have them back to the physician who saw me in an hour and he'll call me with the results and give me next steps. This was at 9am, and I didn't hear from them all day. I called back at 5pm knowing they closed at 6pm, and they said "oh oops, he hasn't had a chance to look at them yet but he'll take a look and call you before he leaves for the day", but they never called. The next morning I called and asked for my x-ray results, where the person who answered the phone was able to immediately look at my chart and tell me I had broken my ankle and would need to be in a boot for 4-6 weeks. They offered nothing further, as though that was the end of the conversation. I was pretty shocked at their lack of providing guidance as to how I go about treating this. I had to proactively ask them if they were able to provide a boot, if they would be sending me a recap of the xray findings. She then agreed that I could come in and be fitted for a boot. When I came in, all she said to me was "you'll need to wear this for 4-6 weeks and then come back for a follow up xray so we can see if it's healed". Again, I was pretty frustrated by the lack of medical guidance. I had to ask how long throughout the day I should wear the boot, and if I should be seeing any other rehab doctors in the meantime as I have a friend who's a Doctor of Physical Therapy who recommended I see an Orthopedic doctor for further assessment. The physician responds "I mean, there's not much you can do right now so it won't help much". I then requested if I could get a copy of my x-ray scans. She told me that their location didn't have an x-ray technician in, and I needed to talk to the front desk to see when they would be in next. After speaking to the girl at the front desk, she told me they were unable to share the files digitally and that the x-ray tech at a different location would need to download them onto a USB port. She said I could go to Wicker Park as they had an x-ray tech that day. So I drive over, and when I tell the guy at the front desk he makes a confused face and says "well...I don't know why they would tell you that, but we can put it on a CD for you?". At this point, his demeanor was suggesting it was weird that I would even want to see my x-ray scans in the first place. I asked if there was no way to send them digitally, and he said no. Mind you, I had a chest x-ray done by them three years ago and they shared the scans digitally. He then says "they could have burned the CD for you, so I really don't know why they sent you here. If you want the scans, it'll take 15 minutes." So I said something was better than nothing and waited for the CD, and when the technician came out they just handed me the disc and walked away. So....if that is the level of care and medical professionalism you are looking for, go ahead and get treated by Midwest Express. read more

Going to any clinic, I usually feel like folks are rushing and desensitized because they see so many patients. This was not the case at Midwest Express Clinic, everyone I interacted with was friendly and compassionate. The provider was happy to answer all of my questions and discuss my options and made me feel very comfortable during my exam. read more

The staff here is friendly, but I wasn't particularly impressed with their medical expertise, and I'm especially concerned about their billing practices. I recently received a bill where my insurance covered only a small portion of the charges. When I reviewed it, I saw I was billed about $200 for a COVID/Flu rapid test. That's an extremely high charge for something that costs a fraction of that amount at most pharmacies. When I contacted the billing department, I was told the price reflects a "lab-grade" test. That explanation doesn't justify the lack of transparency. At no point was I informed that this test would come with such a high out-of-pocket cost. I've been going to this clinic for a while and noticed how quickly they administer these rapid tests. In hindsight, it raises concerns about whether patients are being fully informed before being charged. I plan to raise this issue with the Illinois Attorney General's Office to better understand whether these billing practices are appropriate. At a minimum, patients deserve clear, upfront information about costs before consenting to additional tests. If you come here, I strongly recommend asking detailed questions about pricing and insurance coverage ahead of time; otherwise, you may be stuck with a surprisingly high bill. read more

I've been here many times, and I don't think I've ever had to wait over an hour to see the doctor when using the online check in process on their website. They get my prescriptions right, the treatment right, and they cost less for me after insurance than other urgent cares. They also have comfier seats too! I've been in here for a variety of things, both illness and injury and they're my go to. My only knitpick is sometimes the front desk person isn't the most friendly but I could honestly care less about that, since the treatment is what matters for me. read more

I always come here when I need urgent care. The staff is always very friendly. At times waits can be long, especially on a Sunday but other than that it's a pleasant experience. Today I waited about 40 mins for the provider to come into my room, as they only had 1 provider working, and about 30 mins through my wait someone came and offered me water to me and told me I would be seen after 1 more person. overall a pleasant experience. read more

The waiting area is comfortable and specious and the staff are all very personable and efficient. The nurse's assistant was kind and patient in taking my lengthy history a she was a pleasure to bore. Dr.Christine Isaac was fully engaged and present and showed genuine concern for my recommended treatments and coordinated care. He has a thoughtful manner and strong ethics that she clearly demonstrated in the recommendations. I had a great experience here and recommend them without reservation. read more

I wish medical professionals would start thinking outside of the box more and not base their care off textbook lessons. I came in with difficulty breathing/wheezing, body aches, chills, fever. I explained I've had pneumonia before as well as other respiratory issues. I was sent home with cough syrup and an inhaler. I came back the next day as my fever and breathing worsened now accompanied by severe stabbing chest pain. Was told my lung sounds weren't concerning for pneumonia and if it was still bad in two days, they could send me for an xray. I went straight to the ER - chest xray showed large left lobe pneumonia and got put on multiple iv antibiotics. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra time and money to get proper care. read more

This location commits insurance billing fraud, which is a criminal offense. I private paid up front for a $10 B12 shot. I explicitly told the front desk no need for my insurance to be sent a claim for a $10 injection. They did not listen. And bc I had my insurance card on file for years before, they submitted a claim for $260 to my insurance. I contacted Midwest Express billing dept who had no idea why this was wrong and told me they could put it on a payment plan for me. I asked to speak to a supervisor. Stayed on hold for 25min. Same customer service reconnected with me stating the issue would be taken under review and I'd hear back within 10 days. Never heard back and still getting invoices. read more

Came for a urgent care visit and the doctor sent for some results. They said she will call me back for medication after results come in, but she never did So basically I didn't get proper care for my issue. When I called them back, they said doctor had been on vacation and no one else can follow up Then again I called back the next day so they said the doctor called me back and since I missed it, I will have to come back as a new urgent care visit Extremely frustrated! read more

They ILLEGALLY sent my information to the debt collectors when I had paid IN FULL one year ago at the visit. On June 24th, 2022, I received an email from MCA Collection Company trying to collect a debt that I paid in full at the time of my visit a year ago. Midwest Express Clinic sent my private information to the collectors and affected my credit score when there was NO pending balance. After calling MCA, they quickly apologized for the mistake and sent me the following email (see photos). However, they did not give me a timeline for when this will be removed from my credit. I originally had a credit score of 780+. I'm currently saving up for a down payment for a home and this will severely impact the process. This is absolutely unacceptable and is ILLEGAL under federal and state laws, and I will be seeking recourse. Please RUN from this place. don't come here and waste your time if you need test results. i came with a scheduled appointment and had to wait 2+ HOURS because they had ONE provider working. not to mention they make you come back and pay a co-pay just to SEE AND DISCUSS YOUR RESULTS. is this not illegal? most places post their results and you can just view them but nope not this place! they posted a half sheet of the results where i could see half the information but none of the important information so do not come here. it didn't used to be this way so not sure what's changed but this place is a scam for sure! update to this review: they didn't even test for what i asked them to so all of my visits where for nothing! please never come here! Useless. Went here after having a high fever (around 102-103+) for a week without other symptoms, which isn't normal. I was told to take Naproxen and ride it out. When I asked if it could be a bacterial infection the nurse practitioner told me it's probably a cold - even though I had no respiratory symptoms and my lungs were clear - and told me blood work was unnecessary. Also the triage intake nurse was so disinterested and obviously jonesing to get back to the copy of a Baldwin book he was reading. Location in West Loop. 779 W Adams St. Malpractice concern. If I could rate with zero stars, I would. The staff at the desk were pretty nice. I was in the waiting room for some time, however, when the doctor finally came in she asked if I was there to remove sutures. I was confused and she mentioned that I was in the wrong room. Anywho? It got worse thereafter. If you're someone with reproductive issue/needs, as a woman-I wouldn't recommend you go here. I was denied an IUD removal because the attending physician/doctor (whoever she was) did not want to check. I went in for symptoms of copper toxicity, so I thought I could have the IUD removed ASAP since it felt urgent to me. However, they are clearly underperforming and unqualified to do such a job. Useless, if you will. They did nothing, and I was told to make an appointment with a gynecologist. If my gynecologist was available, I would've done that in the first place. I wish I asked the doctors name, as I would report her to IDFRP for asking me to cancel my appointment "so that my insurance wouldn't be charged." Really she was not qualified and denied me a medical procedure. Very unprofessional to say the least and unfortunate because I was in need of urgent care. read more

Came here with chest pain and difficulty breathing got an ekg even though i told them about previous lung problems and no heart issues. Medical assistant made me feel like i was the biggest inconvenience. Doctor TAPPED MY FOREHEAD AND ASKED IF IT HURT, completely ignored my lung issues and diagnosed me with acid reflux. You have better luck going under a bridge for medical help. read more

Prior to booking, I had a few questions and spoke with Hannah. She was friendly and informative with the process of visiting the clinic. Surprisingly, MEC was very organized via their online booking system. I was able to book an appointment with ease and was seen on the Oct. 29. I was hesitant about setting foot into a clinic due to all the covid testing being done and long lines. These days you do have to wait outside or in your car before you are called in. I waited 20 minutes outside before I entered and was taken to an exam room within 5 minutes. My prior teledoc appointment via MDlive did not help my illness, so I needed urgent care. I had the pleasure of receiving care from Michael C., NP. He was professional, helpful, and kind and listened to my concerns with patience. After asking a series of questions and examining me, he immediately was able to rule out I was resistant to 1st set of antibiotics given by the teledoc. He even made sure to send my Rx for antibiotics right away as I was waiting for bloodwork to be done. The only thing that didn't go well for me was the Med Assistant that did not know how to take my blood. She actually put the needle partially in the vein and really hurt me while having the needle in and pushing it upward. I let her know she was hurting me. She actually told me, "the pump is acting crazy." She proceeded to pull it out, inspect it, and then pull out the needle. I just sat there as blood was dripping out of my arm. She got a cotton ball and I held pressure. With no apology, she left to get another tube. There was no way I was letting her do that again! I checked the hall to request another person to draw my blood but didn't see anyone. Luckily, Michael came back to check on me and saw the empty tubes. I explained what happened and he took my blood the right way and got it done. THANK YOU, MICHAEL! The very next day I started to feel better and will be following up with MEC soon. I highly recommend MEC but beware of the med assistant that is practicing to draw blood (-1 star). read more

I never expect to have a good Urgent Care experience. They are typically miserably slow and I've found myself met with people who don't seem to really care what you're feeling, so long as they can reach a resolution and get to the next person in the lobby. I cannot promise that this place will be a super fast experience but I can tell you I felt attended to and cared for. NP Reda did a great job walking me through the possibilities and ensuring I left feeling like we'd taken steps in the right direction. Called in about a mundane illness, strep throat, and was nudged to make my appointment online by the receptionist. That was fine with me. So I made an account and appointment. Within 15 minutes of my scheduled appointment time I was seen and within 45 minutes of my scheduled appointment time I was out the door with an antibiotic prescription up the street at CVS. website is a total scam! went here with girlfriend. she has strep throat and pharmacys won't give the cure without a prescription. this place said clearly on their website that no insurance is needed. it states $15-$25 for the strep test. we can't afford insurance and have to skip meals just to afford the $25 and prescription. when we arrived at the 60062 location they had a hidden fee of $150 more!!!! Made an appointment online and input my insurance info. Showed up for my appointment and was told they don't cover Blue Cross HMOs and I'd have to pay out of pocket - minimum cost $120. Was charged $160 for a video call, COVID follow up and they wanted to call me twice! Once to tell me I have it, once to make sure I'm still alive. That would have been over $320 in just post-covid follow up! Unreal. There is a state mandate to cover all covid costs, and I'm over here paying these guys hundreds just to call me and ask if I'm doing ok? They are charging about $600 for covid tests here, $250 for the test and then $320 to let you know how it went. I came in with an injured knee and I waited in my room for OVER AN HOUR until I had to go ask someone to see me. she didn't even look at my knee and just told me I had to go somewhere else for an x ray- and nobody told me ahead of time. I've reached out countless times for a doctors note and a question about my prescription from both locations and neither will help me. They put me on hold until it times out. incorrectly read xray. poor care quality. The xray tech stated there was no fracture in my toe, i sent the xray back for it to be rechecked, they doubled down that there was no break. Excellent care and friendly service each time I've been there. I've never had a long wait. It's sparkling clean and they are always spraying the clinic down and disinfecting it. If I could give it a zero I would. I went here for a COVID test and waited 45 minutes after my scheduled time. I then tested positive and had a follow up telehealth appointment. I never received a bill or was contacted via email or phone about payment, until months later when I heard from a collections agency. Can't recommend this clinic unfortunately. I visited 2-3 times with no issues with billing and lab tests in the past, however, this January I visited and received a bill from Quest directly for lab tests I declined and did not authorize. I have been calling Midwest Express for over a month now, and I'm getting the runaround from several managers. I previously spoke to Maria for about 2-3 weeks, who connected me with a Quest rep, and did not get an update from either of them while Maria moved locations. I called last week and spoke to Tanya who mentioned I would get a call back from Maria last week. I didn't hear back so I called again today, just to find out I apparently got a call from "management" (Jasmine) and they weren't able to get ahold of me. I did not have any missed calls or voice messages to back this up. I still have not heard back from this clinic and still have this bill with unauthorized tests outstanding that I am waiting to hear next steps on. I Went here in June for a visit (it is now November). They proceeded to send a bill over mail and I never got it. Was never given an email notification/phone call. I was then sent to collections as a result. Very hard to get in touch with also. I would recommend not going here unless you want to pay hundreds out of pocket. That or don't get sick. I was just here yesterday and I was very hesitant at first because of the bad reviews I was reading. I just moved back to Chicago after living in Southern California for the last 11 years, and I was having some weird health concerns pop up out of nowhere. I was just insured as of last week here and finding a doctor has been a challenge. I saw a female nurse practitioner who was absolutely amazing. I mean truly, I've never had such a pleasant, and thorough experience at an urgent care before. She was very sensitive to my anxiety and my needs over the diagnosis she concluded. Before jumping to any conclusions she had an MD enter the room for a second opinion as well, which I thought was great as well. Both female professionals made me feel cared about in a way that I can't even describe. I left feeling seen, and taken care of. I left knowing they had taken lab work, and with a referral to a dermatologist, which is so hard to come by! The insurance was accepted, and I didn't have to pay a dime. I will absolutely return here in the future, and for my follow up in a week. This place isn't bad at all. Thanks again! read more

TLDR: Ladies, avoid!!!!! Sexist establishment!!!!! My boyfriend and I were both exposed to the flu three days ago. We went in together but they saw us separately . We had the *same* nurse, the *same* nurse practitioner (Daisy Sajuan), the *same* symptoms. They gave us both flu tests and they both came back negative (apparently it takes five days after exposure for them to be positive). Sajuan sent me home with nothing, she said I'm fine, to just take some Advil and eat some food. She sent my boyfriend out with prescriptions for TamiFlu and anti-nausea medication. I've gone to this clinic many times but won't be going back. I went in with a severe cough and after testing negative for covid 19 was basically given cough medicine and told to come back in a week if it was still bothering me. A few days later I'm out of the cough syrup (they prescribed enough for 10 doses) and called to ask for a prescription refill and they refused saying I'd need to come back in... for cough syrup. How ridiculous that they'd want me to come into the office and expose myself to covid-19 not to mention pay for an entire extra visit.. for cough syrup. read more

This place is a racket. Went in for an ear cleaning in May 2022. The entire process took maybe 15 minutes and a hydrogen peroxide/water solution was used to remove excess wax. The process itself was by far and away the most painful one I've ever experienced. I can't imagine the doctor who assisted me hasn't done this a thousand times before but it definitely felt like they watched a 2 min How-To YouTube video before rolling into my exam room. I get my ears cleaned once or twice a year at a charge of $0-$40 everywhere else I've ever gone, with insurance. I would have excused the painful experience if I hadn't just received my bill over 2 months later for $172 (insurance covered $11). It is an absolute absurdity charging $180 for an ear cleaning. Billing was of no help as I was being charged for "office time." Thank god I didn't get a physical or anything else because I'd probably be in the hole another $500, who knows. I will never go back here for any sort of medical treatment of any kind and I would recommend you do the same unless you have an inheritance to burn through. read more

While in-between jobs I went here to get my prescription renewed for high blood pressure--a prescription I've had for years. This required a physical (I'm required to have one once a year for the scrip) which they did but the OOP cost for a physical here is something like $170. When it came time to refill the scrip this week they denied the pharmacy and when I called they told me I have to come back in--every MONTH--to have a physical in order to get the refill. So, to get my $8 prescription monthly I would have to pay them $170/month for a physical. Not only that, I called on a Monday when I ran out and was originally told they'd handle it and call back if there was an issue. No call. No prescription. The day after that I called back and was told there wasn't a "provider" there yesterday and that's why it wasn't filled--but no apologies for not letting me know. But there was today, I was told and if there's an issue I'll get a call. Around 8PM (!!!) I get a call saying there's an issue and when I called back I got their answering service. Today I called back and was told that, no, I can't get a refill unless I come in for a physical. Here's the kicker: I am schedule for a physical IN A MONTH there--I only asked for a courtesy refill since I'll be there beginning of August. This was denied. They would not provide me with 30 days of essential medication unless I came in for a visit I'm having in 30 days anyway. Appalling. Not just the money thing but how they blew me off initially and just never called back. Stay away. read more

She then came back and said she was wrong. Then I proceeded to ask a basic question of if they draw BMP and lipid panels. She rolled her eyes and said yes and for me to ask more questions once I go in the back. She abruptly stopped me from asking questions which I thought was rude and unnecessary. She then apologized to the couple behind me. What was she sorry for? That I asked a couple of questions? She just had a bad attitude. read more
