Please be careful choosing midwives of NJ. Horrible experience that cost us our daughter's health.

At our first visit, I knew I wanted my child to be born in this peaceful place - it had none of the sterile, mechanical & "busy" feeling of the hospital where our first child was born. The orientation class held by Beth Ann was very informative, and created a sense of familiarity, especially when we ended up having Beth Ann as our nurse. I was well into active labor when we arrived at the birth center, but as soon as I walked into the birthing suite, I felt a complete sense of security & confidence. We immediately got into the shower for hydrotherapy while Beth Ann prepared the bathtub. The room & bathroom were impeccably clean, and somehow everything we needed was concealed but close at hand - from a birthing ball to towels to a puke bag from the dresser drawer! The best part of the experience for us was the intimacy - my spouse, doula, nurse, and midwife were right there, focusing only on caring for me. There was no in & out of nurses, or additional personnel in the room. I felt completely safe and protected, even through the intensity of the delivery. My daughter was born in the birthing tub and I was the one to pull her out of the water and into my arms. Once she was born, everything was so relaxed and we could truly enjoy those first few moments. Beth Ann & our birthing team took such wonderful care of me after the birth, ensuring that my husband knew exactly how to care for me & my daughter at home. We left the birth center about 4 hrs after the birth and it was so comforting to sleep in our own bed that night! My recovery was much quicker than with my first birth, and I contribute that in part to the unmedicated, gentle waterbirth I was able to achieve at Our Birthing Center. Knowing now the extraordinary level of care, encouragement, and medical expertise available at the birthing center, I wouldn't give birth any other way!

What I didn't realize on the claim form was her name and address. The check was sent from the insurance company to her home and SHE KEPT IT! After contacting her she lied about it, blamed another midwife, and finally sent me a portion of what she owed. She refuses to return my calls and will not send me the rest of the money. I also found out the midwife she blamed, she also stole money from. She seems so sweet but she is a thief and should not be trusted in your home or near your babies. I will be contacting a lawyer and the insurance company but BEWARE mommies!

In 2011 I was to give birth to my 6 child Roxy was my midwife when I was 10 weeks pregnant she had done a pap smear which was positive for cancer Roxy never gave me this information she quit at the Hackettstown OBGYN office to do home births I agreed to have a home birth it was my sixth child so I was comfortable with that I set up appointments after she quit at her home in which I showed up twice and nobody was there I had went my second trimester with no prenatal care whatsoever then one day Dr Smith called me because he receives a test result paper at the time he received this I was just grieving the death of my sister and my mother 6 weeks apart my sister at 39 died of breast cancer and my mother died of a broken heart dr. Smith asked me to come into the office I was 8 months pregnant and he sat me down and ask me if Roxanne had ever discussed the results of my pap with me I said no and dr. Smith told me that since I was 10 weeks pregnant I did have cancer and he had to do a procedure and he was going to do it that Friday and there was a risk that I might go into labor and it would be painful dr. Smith must have talked to Roxie shortly after that because she called me trying to convince me to still have a home birth I said Roxy you lied to me you didn't tell me I have cancer and I don't know why and she could not answer me but she kept trying to convince me to give her $500 upfront to get a pool to have a home birth and I was blown away I was like you lied to me and didn't tell me I have cancer and you want me to have a home birth with you you're crazy and no matter what I said she still continued on to try to make me have a home birth she also stole my chart from the doctor's office I've been going to that office since I was 15 years old the doctor had no idea when I was due I told him I was due in four weeks he insisted I was due two months later after the procedure I came in for my next check he wanted to do a stress test I told him I was in labor he told me I was crazy I said I'm due right now and I'm going to have this baby today and he said he was going on vacation I said I promise I will have the baby by midnight if you don't go he did the stress test they sent me home at 9 in a snowstorm I got home took a shower and I was in full fledge labor and had to drive an hour back to the hospital when I got stopped by the police who thankfully escorted me to the hospital with a doctor I didn't know to a labor floor that didn't have my chart and knew nothing about me because it was stolen and I had a baby in 27 minutes I have no idea why Roxy lied to me I had two different procedures for the cancer I ignored my visits for five years because of depression and the loss of my sister and then I went to a new doctor doctor Blumenthal who couldn't understand why i would ignore this for five years but when he finally understood he did found out my chart was stolen and there's a list and he did tell me that I'm not cancer free but I'm low grade and eventually I will need a hysterectomy my daughter was born with cyclic neutropenia elane Gene 2 mutation I wonder sometimes if the cancer stuff had something to do with that knowing Roxanne for so long I thought she was my friend as well as my midwife I was sorely mistaken and I regret that she ever took care of any of my pregnancies or babies

If they are an emergency sick appointment, you can have a wait, because he will fit everyone in. As for the person who stated no time for questions, I find that VERY hard to believe. He always answers questions and with a newborn, you go back and sit in his office after the visit and talk to him. Two of my friends switched over and met with him before and did not have to transfer records, but he likes to read up and if your child has any medical diagnosis, he will want to know about it and will research it, if need be...he will want to know every medical detail. He also only recommends the best specialists. He diagnosed my daughter after one urinary infection with reflux, because he asked the right questions. i truly believe she would have had a few infections, with any other ped. As for the older woman at the desk, true, I am not a fan. I also do not like that I will have a 6pm appointment and sign in at 5:55 and a person with a 6:15 could sign in at 5:50 and go ahead of me. That is one thing they could work on. I could understand if I were late.... He is hard to understand, but I have never had a problem, don't know why I can understand him, no problem, but the girls that work there can help. He is so great with kids and my girls adore him. His skills are top notch.

He is a perfectionist who likes things to be done thoroughly and systematically which is something I value in a doctor trained to be evaluating my children's health. He never short changes you on time or attention. He has these catch phrases he uses with mom and dad that put everyone at ease and his accent, though a bit thick, is easy enough to understand and altogether part of his charm. I can't recommend Dr. Chi enough.
