Date today 6/19/25. My age 60, excellent health aside from chronic enlarged prostate (BHP). Had extremely low pressure pee stream for many years. Previous symptoms - slowly losing pressure when peeing over the last 15 years or so. 5 years ago was informed I had a PSA of 5 told to keep a close eye on it. Went in for routine bloodwork earlier this year they saw my creatinine # was 180 (should be below 120) showing my kidneys were in distress, second check weeks later showed same result so was told to go to Boise urologist for ultrasound where they found my kidneys were retaining some 1.9L of urine backing up to my kidneys almost shutting them down unbenounced to me. That St Luke's urologist (name to not be mentioned) slated me for a quick surgery for a large bladder stone to be removed then would address the fact that my prostate had all but closed off my urethra then started me self-catherizing immediately (first ones were extremely painful and bloody). I had the bladder surgery then had to self catheter for sevel weeks until I could get in for surgery. Creatinine #'s went to 139 quickly so kidneys were spared. Upon coming out of bladder surgery this urologist insisted and was quite adamament that I must have TURP surgery soon to stop the obstruction.... his bedside manner and insistance was such that it left me and my lady doubting he was the person we wanted to perform any further procedures though he was competent on the bladder surgery I wanted to change dr's. It did not feel right his being so adament about "TURP" so as soon as we arrived home we both Googled "Alternatives to Turp surgery", Dr Slade came up right away... after watching his videos and reading up I wanted to meet w/him immediately to make sure Holep was the right choice and he was the right person to perform it. I met with Dr Slade a couple weeks after my bladder surgery it was immediately clear he was the right guy. He had reviewed my charts, we spoke for maybe 20 mins, then scheduled the procedure for about one month out. The previous Urologist insisted on TURP never mentioning any alternatives - "when all you have is a hammer everything looks like a nail". He had also stated that I "may never get my bladder control back and may have to have a catheter permanently" also that my kidneys were permanently damaged and will never heal"... that will remain to be seen. 6/18/25 - Arrived at TRV center yesterday morning at 7:15am for Holep, left the center just after 11am while there I had to show I could pee 100ml, when trying I was able to pee well over 500ml with ZERO pain or discomort... just like I was 30 years old again! Post surgery he came and sat with my lady to describe how it went while I slowly came to (this meant the world to her and to me that he took that valuable time). Grabbed lunch on way home had absolutely ZERO pain of any sorts to my complete surprise! Peed 3 x yesterday only a very slight buring once, pee looked like pink lemonade however early this morning looked completely yellow today no burning or discomfort in any way. Summary Dr Slade's bedside manner - confident but not arrogant, very warm, excellent listener. Made me and my lady feel 100% confident that he was more than capable. I cannot say enough positives things about him and his surgical abilities. TRV surgery center - brand new very clean building, all the many nurses were extremely friendly/warm and competent Results - I'm totally blown away! I've had several surgeries for various things thare is always pain/discomfort, rehab/adjustment.... in this case I was immediately able to pee perfectly with only the slightest bit of burning once or twice I feel 100% fit and able though will take it easy. I'll work at my desk all day today without any hestitation This is my exxperience. If you have an Ortho problem, Dr. Johnson is the man to see!! I am 75 years old, and I had a bad knee that was very painful and severely limited my ability to use my treadmill...or even walk! Dr. Johnson completely do replaced my left knee. I walked out of the hospital on my own power, 2 hours later. Dr. Miers Johnson is the most wonderful orthopedic surgeon! He has done both my left and right knee total replacement surgeries with incredible results! Not only is he a great surgeon but he is also a great human being! Kind and considerate, helpful and giving to others! I can't say enough good things about Dr. Johnson. I has a total knee replacement done by Dr. Johnson on Feb 7th and I could not be happier with the way things turned out! From start to finish, Dr. Johnson and his team both in the hospital and in his office were remarkable to work with. If I had a question, an answer was just a phone call away. And the day of the surgery (I had never had surgery before, ever - so I was a bit scared) Dr. Johnson and the hospital crew were absolutely fantastic!
