I've been going to miGak for manicures for a while. All the nail techs have been great. I can never plan ahead enough to go to one person. At least 6-7 people have done my manicures. I tend to get 60-90 minute nail art, most found on Pinterest. The health of my nails is much better since I've been going to miGak consistently. It's my natural nails, no extensions needed. The polish and the removal do not destroy my nails like Vanity Projects and other comparable nail shops. Everyone is sweet. I book online at Vagaro. You do need to plan ahead. I've had my nails done here many times and I've never had anything less than a great experience until today. My nails look great. The technician was wonderful. However, the woman at the front desk had a bad attitude and was not nice at all. She never smiled, I was not offered the opportunity to make another appointment after I paid, (which has never happened), and while I was waiting for my change, she was texting. I was standing right in front of her and she continued texting and didn't give me my change until she finished on her phone. That is very unprofessional. First thing I'll say is the gel they use is high quality and it lasts! Coming into the salon for the first time is a bit confusing as you're not sure how to enter or where to go. Also, most times there reception desk is empty so no one is there to greet you or direct you. The ladies that work there are friendly. They do a great job with the artwork. You should come in with pictures to illustrate what you want. I did have one incident in which I arrived for my appointment and the tech I booked with had started working on someone else. I used to get SNS dip powder manicures regularly before covid (at another salon) but I recognized that they were starting to damage my nails since they had to lightly file the tops of my nails every time I went. I was interested in trying out the japanese softgel manicures at miGak to see if those would be better for my nails. Pros: Very nice salon! It's cute and clean and very easy to schedule the appointment. The nail technician was really nice and meticulous and I really appreciated how evenly everything was applied. My nails looked great. Cons: Despite how meticulous everything looked, a few of my nails did start to separate from the gel after only 2 days. Now every time I touch my hair, strands get stuck between my nails and the hard gel and it pulls them back a little more. I think the salon does offer to fix any issues that occur within the first 10 days (?) but the reason I got my nails done was to go on a trip for 2 weeks so unfortunately I'm out of luck. For how expensive the manicure was ($75 for a solid color) I would have hoped the manicure would've lasted longer. SNS usually lasted on my nails for a solid 3 weeks before starting to lift. Additionally, I've never encountered a salon that charged so much to have a manicure removed ($45 if I don't get another manicure, $15 on top of the other services if I do) so I will be trying to soak/file the rest of these off myself when the time comes. My nails came out beautifully BUT by April 16th I had one nail starting to lift. miGak tried to accommodate by scheduling me the next day for a fix but I had an overlapping appointment so I couldn't make it. Being they are so booked I was unable to come in any other day. It's now April 24 I have three lifting nails and 1 completely off. I discovered Shizuka through Yelp then checked her Instagram and was able to book my appointment through DMs! Super convenient! She was super nice and very accommodating! I learned lots of tips of how to take care my nails while getting my nails done. For those who are used to getting cuticle trimmed or cut, you might be a little worried (at first) like I was because she used this machine called drill bit to lift cuticle which was a bit weird at first, but I was told that this way was harmless than the old traditional way. She was very patient and took her time to paint my nails. I also loved that she used " Para Gel" since I read that it's a Japanese brand and is very gentle to your nail. It honestly didn't really smell. The place is very open and spacious. My session was about an hour and it didn't feel that long since we had an enjoyable conversation. It's been over a week and my nails still look beautiful! FYI, for just a regular gel manicure, it's $50. It's not cheap, but it's so worth it! She uses high end products and Le Labo Hand lotion at the end of the session :) This place is CASH only and you need to make an appointment. read more

Getting fancy nail art is becoming a bit of a guilty pleasure. Sure, it's expensive and cash only with only one or two nail technicians working there at a time, but you come out of that salon with hands and fingernails that feel like a million bucks. You'll feel pampered and amazing with the nails they give you. Nevermind all those fancy nail places in Manhattan. A trip out to Park Slope to get here is well worth it. They provide the high end Japanese gel polish here. Regular gel mani will run you at least $50. It goes up to a $100 if you're looking for nail art. Bringing photos for inspiration certainly helps them. They are artists though. Tell them what you you're looking for, and they'll give you something better than what you had in mind. I came here twice with a friend who has been a customer of the main technician for several years. I've admired her nails, and I just had to know who the incredible artist was. I've recently had their new technician do my nails, and she does an equally excellent job. My first nail art ever from here was Roy Lichtenstein art, something I wanted to do for a very long time. Shizuka, the main technician, did an incredible and precise job. I showed her a bunch of photos, and she was able to closely replicate the designs. I received several compliments for my nails. I highly urge anyone to book their next nail appointment at miGak. It's a bit of a best kept secret for nail art. Make sure to bring plenty of cash though. It's very pricy yet worth every dime. Located in a hip industrial space occupied by a cafe, salon and nail spot. My neglected cuticles needed tons of TLC. Nao took on my nails with such care, precision and patience. She checked in after each step in my nail restoration experience to ensure that I was satisfied with her work. I got 10 finger nail art and it was a roughly 90 minute appointment. Am I the only women that uses my hands for everything and before u know it your new manicure is ruined. Well let me tell you, Migak is a miracle worker. I went on vacation back home and I washed dishes everyday, cooked everyday, washed my hair everyday, and was fighting with jewelry clasps for the last 10 days. When I arrived, I was greeted with a smile and a welcome atmosphere. She was even patient with me as I picked out my designs and color schemes and never rushed me. She does her designs free hand and the focus and precision she puts into it is awe inspiring. I decided on a gel manicure with a medium design and it came to a little under $100. She uses a japanese gel to help set your nails and I will say that this is the best gel manicure i have recieved. I will be back to remove my gel and get another manicure. It seems like I'm always writing nail reviews and most of the time they aren't pleasant to write because it wasn't a pleasant experience but I'm happy to say this is not one of those times. Everything about miGak was a pleasure. The space was open and calm. The decore was great and the chair was shockingly very comfortable. I was greeted with a warm smile by the owner, Shizuka. I got gel extensions which take about an hour and a half. And it was a pleasant time that I enjoyed. Talking with Shizuka made time just fly by and it was like talking to a real friend. She engages and actually cares about what you talk about with her. For the work itself it was perfection. She took her time and triple checked her work always. My nails look amazing and all the same!!! Which I'm always told my finger is the problem. But it as amazing to not hear that and just have someone take their time and really enjoy doing what they do. Shizuka has a passion and it shows through her work. I went very simple with my nails this time around but next time I will do a design but just going simple I know she's talented. I may have hit the jackpot with Shizuka!! Now the only thing that might be a problem is the hours and days she's open! My nail technician really took her time and did a nice job, very clean lines and smooth finish. I am very happy with my nails. This is my first time using Japanese gel polish. The space is warm and they play chill music, I feel the style is very Brooklyn! The salon itself is in an interesting space, it's actually one big building, the room they're in is shared with the hair salon, and on the other side there is a cafe and a section where they sell some Japanese groceries, skincare and clothes. I reached out via Yelp to a few nail salons regarding two broken extensions. MiGak automatically stood out because of the speedy response to my inquiry with so much politeness. I sent a photo of my nails and Shizuka responded with what I needed done and a price point. We easily booked my appt for 12:30p. I went on a Thursday, and it was so quiet (best to go on a week day, they get slammed weekends). The young woman who had been reaching out to me via Yelp messaging was also my nail tech. This leads up to me saying, 'Thank God for nail techs like Shizuka!' Right when I sat down to get my nails done, she was already creating conversation and excitement. Not only was she kind and skilled, but she was informative. I spent about 1.5 hrs with her, and we had plenty of time to talk about nails. She educated me on different nail gels, how damage is done to the nail, why the extension may be weak etc.. she's like the nail doctor. Very bummed. I love the vibe of this place and everyone was so nice when I was there. I got an ombré manicure ($80 with tip) on a Friday and the following Tuesday my thumb has chipped (first photo). They were super apologetic. I was out of town and came in that Saturday for a fix. Now it's the follow Tuesday and it's chipped in the same place again (second photo). I contacted them again. There response this time was just "We've never had that happen before." The only offer was complimentary removal on my next visit. I'm 7 months pregnant and now I've wasted $80 and 2 trips to this salon on a chipped manicure and want me to spend more money with you?No thank you. I've had $25 gel manicures chip less in 10 days.
